Hey guys, just wanted to congratulate everyone involved on such a great season! We couldn't have done it without all the effort put in by everyone, from top to bottom. Everyone pulled their weight this year and it really paid off.  Congrats to all the players graduating to the VHL next season and for those who aren't, keep updating and let's get ready to do it all over again!

Eggy216 got a reaction from Corco in Daring Do leaves VHLM a champion
After making it to the finals and falling short last year, Daring Do will be leaving the Saskatoon Wild franchise as a VHLM Champion, and she couldn't be prouder. "This has been a dream of mine since I joined the league, and I'm beyond thrilled that I had the chance to do it with such a great group of teammates. Everyone on this team has become like a family to me, and winning the cup - whether we did it in 4 games or even if it had taken more, just feels so much sweeter because I got to do it with all of these guys alongside me. From my linemates, McAllister and Scheel, to the blue line with Ay Ay Ron and murguy in goal, this has been a great organization to be a part of and I couldn't be prouder to call myself a VHLM champion with the Saskatoon Wild.

Scheel Finds Redemption, Along with Wild

After losing to the Las Vegas Aces in a heartbreaking close to S54's campaign, the Saskatoon Wild had an unexpected opportunity to claim revenge (and redemption) after the Aces surprised and defeated the Oslo Storm to make it to the finals for the second year in the row. Once matched up against each-other, the Wild were clearly the team with something to prove -- and they played like it, winning four straight games to claim the championship. Out-shooting the Aces at every turn, the defending champions simply couldn't keep up with the Wild, and appeared stunned at times by the onslaught. That being said, they did a good job of grinding down and keeping some of the games close, and deserve all the credit in the world for making it so deep into the post-season when many had written them off.

That being said, there's little doubt that for the Wild, being able to sweep the Aces -- even a weaker version of the Aces -- provided a measure of satisfaction, given some of the more negative aspects of last season's competitive atmosphere. Links to last season can be found through the return of players such as Gabriel McAllister, Jake Scheel and Daring Do -- the first of whom has repeated his previous success, with his second straight year as the playoff points leader. Players like Ay Ay Ron and Emil Martinov have established themselves even further with their campaigns, and on the Las Vegas side, Rask Rowe and Rudi Ying have proved that their personal success wasn't merely the result of a stacked team.

Calling back to an earlier couple of articles published on this site, the win has some added significance for sophomore Jake Scheel. Last year, we discussed at length his postseason struggles in which he recorded a meager seven points in eleven games, far below his regular season pace. This came hand in hand with his decline in the draft rankings from the consensus no. 2 or no. 3 selection, to falling anywhere from no. 5 or no. 6. This season, his sluggish training pain for part of the season raised even further questions about his spirit, his drive to improve, and above all else, his ceiling as a player. This year, Scheel recorded seventeen points in seven games, a much improved rate, finishing tied for second along with Rudi Ying and Mattias Forsberg amongst centers. Granted, Ying played more games than Scheel and Forsberg played less, making the statistic somewhat skewed, but the fact remains that at least this year Scheel didn't play well below what he displayed during the regular season.

All this is to say that perhaps, despite his off and on struggles on the eyes and the difficulty of last season's playoff run, Jake Scheel's personal story-line has really just been following that of the Saskatoon Wild as a whole. He showed up late in S54, surprised a lot of people with how well he played, managed to drive up some hype for himself before ultimately falling off at the very end of the season, the exact worst time to fall off, before coming back this season with a stronger, and ultimately winning campaign. Questions now linger for both Scheel and his team. As Scheel looks towards the VHL proper, he faces the likelihood of coming up against much stronger, much more challenging competition, while the Wild themselves will be looking to replace a number of the key pieces that led this championship run in the off-season, and avoid the post-victory decline that so many junior teams have to go through.

FML my dump-in on the PK leads to the series winner. GG Wild, you deserved it, after what happened last year and your success this year. Didn't really expect to get swept, but it was much closer than the 4-0 showed.

Cool, so at least we know what the whining excuse will be early. If there was an update, Las Vegas would have had 7 guys with increased attributes, while Oslo would have 4 (Ying, Aleksei and Forsberg all maxed already.)

Eggy216 reacted to Devise in Reinholdt Will Remain In Toronto For Career; Says Fuck You To Cologne Offer
Verner Reinholdt will be entering the final season of his entry level contract in Season 56. Originally Verner signed the standard boiler plate entry level deal with the Calgary Wranglers, but tensions and concerns with the future of the process, as well as a desire to play for a franchise the Power agency had never played for pushed Verner to Toronto. Heading into Toronto, Verner confirmed through his agent that he would have zero issues signing a career contract extension with the Legion.

However there wasn't much heard since then, as Verner and the Legion would have to wait until the off-season officially begins to start talking contract extensions. Reinholdt however was contacted illegaly by the shady GM over in Train Land and upon receiving one contact decided it was best to come out publicly to not only decry any issues of tampering, but also make sure the facts are straight. The following is his quote.

Saskatoon's Top Players in Top Form

The Wild celebrate their game one victory over the Lynx. Saskatoon looks to close out the series tonight at home.

When your top players are playing like your top players, you're going to see some pretty big successes on the ice - and that's been the story so far through four games for the Saskatoon Wild. The top line of Gabriel McAllister, Jake Scheel, and Daring Do have combined for a total of 14 goals and 29 points, with defenseman Ay Ay Ron adding a goal of his own and 10 points. This is exactly what the team wanted to see heading into the first round of the playoffs, and the fans are certainly excited to see that their success on the ice has led to success in the series, with the Wild sitting on a 3-1 series lead as they head back home to play in front of their own fans.

This high scoring play thus far has been backed up by the skilled goaltending of Brienne O'Tarth, who currently sits comfortably with a .866 save percentage and a 3.26 goals against average, giving the Saskatoon Wild the lowest goals against in the league to go along with their playoff-high goals for. Of course these numbers have been helped by the fact that the Wild are second in the league in shots for (32.50) and are far and away the league leaders in shots against with 24.25 - well below the Las Vegas Aces who sit in second with 29.71 shots per game.

Unfortunately if there's one area in which the Saskatoon Wild have struggled, it's their penalty kill. While Daring Do has been one of the team's leaders on the ice this postseason, she's also been a leader when it comes to cutting runs to the penalty box with 10 penalty minutes this postseason - tied with Boner for the team lead. Unfortunately, not only has this left the team down a player and down one of their penalty killers, it's also meant a goal against more often than they'd like to see as they are a league-worst 68.75% on the penalty kill this postseason.

Luckily the special teams hasn't been all bad for Saskatoon this season - their powerplay is the second best in the league at 26.32%, led by Daring Do's two powerplay goals and Emil Martinov's three powerplay assists. So while the team definitely needs to work more on their penalty killing performance, their powerplay at least helps to make up for some of the goals they're giving up throughout the series.

All in all, Saskatoon is peaking at the right team, and the players and fans are hopeful that this can lead to a long postseason and their names engraved on the cup.
