  1. Jakob Linholm Biography Hometown: Stockholm Sweden Age: 18 Position: Left Wing Handedness: Right Height: 6'2" Weight: 210 Lbs. A Swedish Tradition Jakob Linholm was destined to be an athlete from the moment he was born into the world. Born on March 18 to Daniel and Mary Linholm, his families name was one that many people in Sweden recognized thanks to their many athletic accomplishments. His dad had played in the NHL for the Hartford Whalers and Toronto Maple Leafs while his mom was one of the premier swimmers in Sweden. Even his Uncle had spent some time in the NHL, playing for the Calgary Flames. Both he and his sister, Katie, played minor hockey and while his sister decided to quit hockey in order to follow in their mothers and focus on swimming, Jakob continued to play hockey and was coached by his dad straight through until bantam. While he was never the best player on his team, he was always the one who tried his hardest and would often go with his dad to the outdoor rink a few blocks from his house in order to continue to get better. When he turned 16 he was eligible to play in the Swedish Junior League where his rights were picked up by his hometown Stockholm Golden Bears in the third round of the bantam draft. Swedish Junior League Jakob's junior career started off like the rest of his hockey career. He was not the most talented guy on this ice his first year and was unable to make much of an impact on the ice. One thing that he always had was his skating ability and it allowed him to continue to put up good minutes even though he wasn't producing a large amount of goals and points his first year. After his first season, he went back to his dad for more advice on how to get better and over the off-season they worked on his scoring and passing skills. He went into his second season with a whole new wave of confidence and it immediately led to an increase in his scoring. He went form only scoring 12 goals and 53 points his first year to scoring 45 goals and 104 points in 70 games his second year. This boost in production led to him gaining the attention of some scouts form the NHL and VHL. When the time came to declare for either the NHL or VHL, Jakob's decision was actually easier than it may seem. VHL or NHL? Jakob's family had never been supporters of the NHL ever since his dad and the then commissioner didn't see eye-to-eye when his dad was trying to get the NHL to go out and try and get more European players to come play. The commissioner had thought that the Europeans played too boring of a game and that most were not actually good enough to keep up to the skill level of the players in the NHL. This caused his father to voice his opinion strongly and eventually led him to quit the NHL and play the last few years of his career in the Swedish Hockey League. This caused Jakob to have no interest in playing in the NHL and chose to join the VHL. VHLM Since Jakob decided to join the league after it had already begun, his VHLM rights were up for grabs and they were claimed by the Bern Royals. While it did take Jakob some time to get used to his role on the Royals, he has gotten used to the new style of game and found his scoring touch recently. The Royals are one of the top teams in the league and Jakob has done his part to help them reach this point and has been getting better and more comfortable day by day. PROS Quick Shot- Jakob has always focused on improving his shot in the off-season and the work he has been putting in has been showing. He has one of the quickest releases in the game and it is getting more and more accurate every day. He can often catch goaltenders off-guard with his ability to get a shot off when it seems almost impossible. Skating- Jakob has a smooth stride when skating and has an ability to accelerate quickly. He has been known to simply blow by a defender if they are not ready and this leads him to get great scoring chances. He is strong on his skates and is rarely thrown off of them. He uses his skating ability to create open space which helps him create more quality scoring chances. Work Ethic- He gets his work ethic form his father and uses any opportunity he has to get better to it's fullest. He often spends his off-season working on fine tuning his game and looks up to the older players and tries to learn from them as much as he can. When he is on the ice he is often one of the hardest workers and hates when he gets outworked during a shift. CONS Strength- Jakob is not the strongest player and can get out-muscled by the bigger players on the ice. He needs to get bigger in order to compete when he gets into the VHL and is against bigger and more skilled players. While battling in front of the net he can get pushed out rather easily and this causes him to need to work harder and spend more energy on trying to stay in position when he could be using it in more productive ways. Defense- As is the case with most young forwards, his defensive game is in major need of work. He has focused more on improving his offensive game and can be a defensive liability at times. This should change as he continues to grow as a player and once he reaches the VHL, will need to improve this or it will cost his team a few goals. Decision-Making- He is still young and has to get used to the faster style of play within the VHL and VHLM. He needs to improve on deciding which pass to make or when to take a shot. It currently takes him too long to decide what to do with the puck and this causes turnovers to occur. This should disappear as he gains confidence and gets older.
  2. Bern fans fully behind this years squad This past weekend, in an effort to help out local hockey, the Bern Royals put on a hockey clinic in order to help out the minor hockey programs within the Bern area. Many kids and adults came out for a day filled with a skating and drills portion of the afternoon followed by a chance to get an autograph and pictures with the players. The players that showed up for the Royals included Ron World Peace, Blaine Olynick, Jakob Linholm and the newest addition to the Royals roster, Antoine Sauvé. The day started off when adults and kids were all given a chance to skate with these players and do some hockey drills ran by the players themselves. They did a few skating drills as well as shooting and passing drills, while Olynick ran a couple of goalie drills. "It was a ton of fun" said 11-year-old AJ Harris. "Having the player here made it extra cool and it was really fun when I scored on Olynick" Earlier in the breakaway drill they were doing, AJ skated down and managed to slide the puck past Olynick, though there may not have been 100% effort from the top goalie prospect for the season 37 VHL draft. After the hockey portion of fan day was done, the fans were given a chance to get autographs from the players that showed up as well as get a picture with them as well. Overall many fans enjoyed the experience and thought it was great that the team was showing an interest in getting to know the community that they play for. The team decided to take this opportunity to continue excitement around the franchise that has been building this season. The Royals are sitting in second place in the European conference and are one of the favorites to knock off the league leading Bratislava Watchmen in the playoffs. With more and more tickets getting sold to their games and with the community fully embracing the team, it seemed like a good time to give something back to the fans that have been cheering them on. "It was nice to come out and interact with the fans. They have been spending their time and money to come out and see us play and have been one of the main reasons we have been doing so well this year. It was good to give them something back as a thank-you." said Linholm, the teams 18-year-old left winger. When asked about the rest of the season, Linholm seemed to echo the thoughts of the rest of the Royals organization. “Yeah we're obviously happy with the way that the season has been going but we're still improving. We are not going to stop until we are the ones raising the trophy at the end of the year. Every day we are out there practising and the coaching staff is doing it's best to get us ready for the rest of the season as well as the playoffs.” With the fans fully backing the team, it's nice to see the team do something for the fans. Linholm is an 18-year-old winger eligible for the season 37 VHL Entry Draft

  4. While crushing out other tv shows I always go back to mad men to keep trying to finish that. Such a good show but I can only handle so many hour long episodes a day
  5. Don't know if theres already something for this but I always find it interesting to find out what TV show people are watching all the episodes to on netflix or some of the hidden gem movies on there. Just finished up the Office and now I'm starting Scrubs.
  6. Started when midnight hit Atlantic Canada
  7. I don't know how many people here have twitter but for every tweet sent out in the next 24 hours that uses #BellLetsTalk Bell Canada will be donating 5 cents towards mental health research. Don't have to be from Canada to send the tweet for it to count. http://letstalk.bell.ca/en/end-the-stigma/ This is a running counter of how many tweets have been sent so far.
  8. Accepted the contract. In the pickup game: 6 rec, 119 yds and a TD
  9. created a WR. Anquan Johnson. Mouthy Like Boldin and a bruiser.
  10. While the attention of the VHLM was on the Watchmen at the start of the season, the Bern Royals are proving that they aren't just going to hand them the title. With a streak of 9 straight wins the Royals are within striking distance of taking over the top spot in the European conference. Sitting only 4 points behind the Watchmen, it's looking like the European Conference is shaping up to be a race to the finish, especially since the season is getting closer and closer to the end. With the solid goaltending of Blaine Olynick, the sudden re-appearance of Ron World Peace and the Swedish 18-year-old Jakob Linholm, this is starting to look like a team that could take the top spot of the European conference. Olynick has been solid all year and looks like he will be a top pick in the draft this year. World Peace has been improving once again after it looked like his development had gone to a stand-still. Linholm seems to have finally gotten used to the different style of game and has been putting up more points in recent games, despite receiving under 10 minutes per game. It's looking like the Conference will be a battle until the very end.
  11. More and more fans are showing up every game and aren't afraid to let their passion and team colour show at VHLM games. While the VHLM doesn't get the same amount of respect or coverage of the VHL, the fans don't seem to mind. In fact, if you ask a few of them, they prefer not to have all the cameras and press at their games. "Yeah I don't mind that we don't get the TV time that the big teams get," says Alex Valer, a long time Oslo Storm fan. "It gives us a chance to avoid dealing with all those big shots and just watch some hockey." "Oh yeah, for us it's all we got down here except for the Riders. I love nothing better than going down to the rink and opening up a nice cold can of Pilsner and watching the Wild go win some hockey games" said Dylan Tanner, a 38-year-old wild season ticket holder. With attendance rising each and every game, and with more and more sold out games appearing throughout the league, it seems that the VHLM is reaching a high point in it's popularity and with the sudden rush of talent coming into the league and more story-lines to follow than ever, it is easy to see that fans are taking more interest in the league. One of the main attractions for the VHLM this year has been the play of the Bratislavia Watchmen. They have been the hottest team the league so far and have proven to be the favorites to be the ones raising the trophy at the end of the year. Another thing that has kept fans interested in the teams has been the play of their young stars Tom Slaughter and Slaeter Fjorsstrom. Both of these players are expected to go high in the draft and fans enjoying watching the play of these two future VHL regulars. With the Oslo Storm slowly beginning to look better and perhaps looking to make a push to the playoffs, their attendance woes are slowly disappearing. With the strong play of Luke Riggs and Kimo Salo anything seems to be possible for this team and the fans are getting behind them. Of course not every team is doing well as the Brampton Blades sit at the bottom of the standings With the first half of the VHLM season coming to an end shortly, fans are getting ready for the roller coaster ride that the second half is sure to be. With each team trying to start to build some momentum for playoffs, there is more than enough to keep fans interested in the league. Will the Oslo storm make playoffs? Who will be able to handle the powerhouse Watchmen in the playoffs? Will the price of Pilsner in Saskatoon ever go down? While we wait for the answer to these questions, there is one thing that is not in questions: Even though the teams may not be as popular as VHL teams, these fans still love their teams and aren't afraid to show it.
  12. works now, going to give it a listen! EDIT: It was a good listen, I always like to listen to podcasts dealing with the VHLM because that's the league I'm also currently playing in and can stay more interested. Also Go Royals!

  16. Just finished a Philosophy of Film Course and watched some pretty good movies in it, Feel free to check them out if you haven't or re-watch them. I enjoy them all but I love movies that make you think. The Truman Show (Jim Carrey is excellent) Fight Club (My all time favourite movie. I'd tell you more but i've already said too much) Donnie Darko (The only good film but a mediocre director) Moon (Sam Rockwell is great) Momento (Watch with your full attention, timeline is very messed, have to pay attention) A Clockwork Orange (The most messed up movie here, not for the faint of heart) Those were a few we watched in that class, all are excellent films imo. If anyone knows of movies like these please tell me, I love films like those and am always looking for a new movie to watch.
