In just his first season in the Victory Hockey League, Brennan McQueen was unarguably the best defensive forward in the entire league. On a rebuilding Riga team, McQueen was a force to be reckoned with using his big body structure to lay out the big hit and not being afraid to throw it in front of any shot either. He ended the season leading the league in hits with 371 over the 72 games played. He also posted an outstanding 92 shots blocked which without doing any research is probably the best in the league as a forward and even better than some defensemen! Playing this style of game is dangerous though and he was near the top of the league in penalty minutes almost all season long.
With still a ways to go in his career we will see if he can keep up the strong defensive play as well as improving his offensive output. He had a decent rookie season putting up 34 goals, the most of any rookie in the league but just 29 assists for 63 points on the season. If he can up his offensive output quite a bit he could be in the talks for best two-way player for the rest of his career.
