(graphic pending again ) VSN Presents: S93 VHLM Playoff Preview Better late than never! Today we're going to take a look at the VHLM Playoffs, see how each team is looking in their quest for the Cup and have the folks from VSN predict how the playoffs are going to go in our humble opinions! It was a fantastic season in the VHLM, so let's take a look at how these playoffs can and *already have* shaped up! First Round: Because I was late on getting this article out, the first round is already done by the writing of this article, so we'll cover each series in terms of how each team fared and if they met expectations! Halifax 21st (2nd) vs. Philadelphia Reapers (6th) Coming into this series, Halifax had the best offense in the regular season by a pretty far margin. 234 goals for on the season for Halifax, compared to 178 goals for by the Reapers, it was clear from the get that one team would absolutely have the offensive edge. What wasn't expected however, was how shutdown Halifax's defense would be against the Reapers, only allowing 5 goals against the entire series. When your team is able to dominate on both ends of the ice, it was already decided how this series was going to go. Philadelphia put up a good fight, but a juggernaut like Halifax is a team that would be significant challenge to overcome, and Philadelphia just didn't have all the pieces they needed this time around for a deep push. Prediction: N/A VSN Vote: 3 Halifax, 0 Philadelphia Saskatoon Wild (3rd) vs. Mississauga Hounds (7th) Another similar case to the Halifax and Philadelphia series, the Wild came into the playoffs with the second best defense statistically in the regular season. With all their defensemen nearly maxed out in earnings, they would be a remarkably difficult challenge for Mississauga to overcome. Mississauga wasn't going to shy away from it however, as the likes of Taylor Swift @lilchrist, Jack Dickins @Mystery_boy98, and Anthony Simmons II @Starchychaff were going to do everything they could to chip away at the defense, but it wasn't enough for them. While they managed to put up 9 goals in their 5 game series, the constant onslaught they faced from up and down the Wilds roster proved to be their match. Another strong effort, but going up against stacked elite teams like these two series thus far, it was going to take something significant to go right for these teams to have a fighting chance. Prediction: N/A VSN Vote: 3 Saskatoon, 0 Mississauga Houston Bulls (4th) vs. Las Vegas Aces (5th) Arguably the closest of the series played in the first round of the playoffs, next up we have the Bulls going up against the Aces. Very evenly matched teams, the Bulls only edge against the Aces in the regular season was their defense and goaltending. After a very rough start to the series, the Aces pulled their starter in favor of their backup THE MIGHTY ICE WIZARD @DaddyFizz. The Aces bolstered one of the best first lines in the league with the likes of Pombo @samx, Finneas Finnegan O Cleirigh @Gorth playing a key role in providing offensive firepower. The depth of Houston proved to be an issue, however, as the Aces couldn't get consistent scoring up against Houston, and were also dispatched in 5 games. Prediction: N/A VSN Vote: 3 Houston, 0 Las Vegas Ottawa Lynx (1st) vs. Mexico City Kings (8th) In our final first round matchup, we had the epitome of an atom bomb vs a coughing baby. Ottawa came into the playoffs with the best defense in the regular season by a pretty large margin, and Mexico City sold assets at the deadline. It was pretty clear who was going to win this series, but the way they won it was rather interesting when taking a look at the rest of the playoffs. The fact Mexico City managed to squeak out a win against Ottawa was amazing, and they even managed to shut out Ottawa in the game they won. Let that go to show that anything could happen in the playoffs, but it was most definitely a fluke as Ottawa got it together and dispatched them in convincing fashion over the next two games. A great showing by Mexico City, the future is very bright for the Kings! Prediction: N/A VSN Vote: 3 Ottawa, 0 Mexico City Second Round Onto the second round of the playoffs, we finally enter a place to give proper predictions, and with how pretty straight forward the first round was, we enter completely uncharted territory now as the playoffs ramp up into a new level of competitiveness. Let's take a look at the matchups! Ottawa Lynx (1st) vs. Houston Bulls (4th) Onto the first series of the second round, we have Ottawa vs. Houston. Bolstered by their top line of Kevin OConnor @Luke033, Ocean Codoller @FreshOceanCod, and Sammie Kiefer @Fno, the Lynx are a dangerous offensive team for the Bulls to face. The Bulls can match offensively however, with the likes of Filip Zinek @FiZi, Johnny Tsunami @Vice & defenseman Ray Stanton @horoscope. On top of that, having the best goalie in the playoffs in Herald Benson @Benson backing them up, this is going to be a remarkably close series, but VSN predicts the depth and offensive prowess of the Lynx will find cracks in the armor, and give them the series! Prediction: Ottawa in 7 VSN Vote: Ottawa 4, Houston 1 Halifax 21st (2nd) vs Saskatoon Wild (3rd) Another incredibly even series, we have Halifax going up against Saskatoon! The Wild have been blessed with a good offensive showing, especially by players like Jacob Longstreet @Dynamicmlb_42 and Bollos de Trueno @Thunder in particular. The 21st, however, have a goalie that has already put up 3 shutouts in these playoffs in Jon Webber III @Webberj, and it is VSN's prediction that with Webber's shutdown ability, and Aanarsi Reingaard @Laine & Andrew Skilton's @ace_five_offensive ability, that they will prove too much for Saskatoon to overcome, and provide Halifax their first Founder's Cup Final appearance under new GM @LucyXpher! Prediction: Halifax in 7 VSN Vote: Halifax 3, Saskatoon 2 Founder's Cup Final Ottawa Lynx (1st) vs. Halifax 21st (2nd) Onto the final series of the prediction, we have the grand finale, Ottawa vs. Halifax! When the best of the best in the league go up against each other for the Cup, you can expect a hard fought series no matter what, and this will be absolutely no exception. It will be Ottawa's defense up against Halifax's offense, but that's too linear of a path to put the series on. Every aspect of both teams will play major factors in who comes out on top, and the slightest slip up may cost either team the Cup. With the stellar play of Jon Webber III that would have gotten Halifax to this point however, it is VSN's prediction that Halifax will give it just a little bit more, and win the series and the cup for the Halifax 21st! Live from Juan Ceson Arena, this is Radio Las Vegas, with your host, Marcus Svedberg. With Season 93's regular season officially wrapped up, let's dive into a review! The regular season has ended, and what a season it has been for your Las Vegas Aces! Let's start this review from the beginning, and take a look at how the boys from Vegas managed to get to this point. We start from the heartbreaking ending of last season. Multiple career long Aces moved onto the E, including Piston Maicupp @MandyManiac, Caesar Monterrey @CaptainGatsby, and Bric Sheithaus @Oldhead91 to name a few. The retirement of Stinky @taylorherd after the historic and record breaking season he had, plus the aforementioned call ups had the Aces written off by every analysist and VSN writer & podcaster as a serious playoff contender, and that a long and grueling rebuild was upon the Aces. The Aces started last seasons offseason by hanging up the jersey of Stinky in the rafters of Juan Ceson arena, and prepared the fans for a difficult and painstaking process to get back into Cup contention. As fate would have it, however, they didn't need to wait long. During the draft, GM Hafkey made multiple moves, including picking up Pombo @samx, Finneas Finnegan O Cleirigh @Gorth & the three musketeers in Eugene Ryanheart @jesse115, Nikita Yolishev @Joel Main, and Trevon Rider @bjackson54. These pickups would turn out to be masterclass moves, as all of them became essential pieces of the Aces lineup in S93. The Aces also traded for goaltender Kendra Cavill @Firekiss in a trade with Halifax, to improve upon their goaltending woes that ended up costing them the Founder's Cup in S92. With all the pieces in place, Las Vegas prepared for impact and a rough season ahead. What ended up happening, however, nobody could've predicted. The Aces were actually somehow good still. With the season officially underway, now the newly named captain of the Aces, Pombo put the team on his back, and in the 72 contests he played for Las Vegas, logged over 100 points, 20 more than the second highest scorer on the Aces! With this level of offensive firepower at the helm, the Aces were able to maintain their status from last season as one of the leagues best offenses, ending the season with 222 goals for, the second highest of the entire league, second only to the Halifax 21st. Additionally, the team managed to scrape up 40 wins on the season, with an official record of 40-26-6 by the conclusion of today's games, a very respectable season indeed. With the playoffs underway in a few days, and the recent hiring of AGM @mattyIceman, the Aces look reinvigorated to return to the final and finish what they started last season. A few players from that team are still here, so expect players like O Cleirigh especially to really fight with all they have to make sure a repeat of last season is farfetched. The Dark Horse Warsaw Predators The Warsaw Predators over the last 5 seasons have had a tumultuous history to put it plainly. From their recent struggles to field star talent that takes over games to their depth issues that plagued potential playoff runs, this seasons Predators are an incredible group of players capable of exceeding all expectations. While the season winds down and playoff brackets and matchups are confirmed, Warsaw is looking to compete for decent placement in the standings on the backs of a trendy second half push. The offense has been tearing up defenses and goalies alike with big showings from the top 3 players on the team. Maxim Anisimov, King Kisslinger @Kisslinger, and Thor Reingaard @N0HBDY are all on pace for over 100 point seasons, with Kisslinger being on pace for over 70 assists, and Anisimov for 50 goals. This level of multiple players being able to bring big numbers to the score sheet across multiple lines has proven to be a great benefit to the scoring prowess of Warsaw, as they have two of the leagues top five scorers on the same line. The biggest note, however, would be their stellar defense and absolute shutdown goaltending. As of writing this media spot, Warsaw holds the second lowest Goals Against in the VHL with 172, 8 off from the league lead. Long time Davos goaltender Lachlan Summers @kirbithan became a Predator in S92's offseason, in a trade that sent a considerable amount of assets to Davos in exchange for Summers and a handful of depth draft picks. The trade appears to have paid off tremendously for Warsaw as Summers is in the running for multiple awards, including MVP and Best Goalie. With a performance in the crease like that, it's no wonder Warsaw is seeing success reflect back upon them in the standings and propel them up into a dark horse candidate consideration. Warsaw has it's work cut out for it despite this. They still struggle to keep the depth from letting up, and even their top line can give up a few special team goals that end up burning a loss onto the stat sheet, usually in a single goal difference. While the games independently aren't the end of the world for the Predators, they affect their position in the standings overall and can determine whether Warsaw gets the teams they want out of the seeding or not. Having a potent first line is always a must for any contender, and having a goalie capable of stealing games is always a bonus, but there are still issues that might arise in the playoffs that halt the Predators dead in their tracks should they not be given the proper attention. For this reason, I am confident that Warsaw has what it takes to be the dark horse of the playoffs, and make a little Cinderella run for the Cup. The issues are simple in nature to amend, but would putting a band-aid on those problems create new ones that the Preds need to take on for a deeper run, like broken line chemistry or Summers running out of gas? Only time will tell!

I've been saying that Denver/Colorado needs representation in the VHL for years now, probably since I first joined back in like S65. The lack of a Rocky Mountain team in any of the leagues has been on my mind pretty much the entire time I've been in the VHL, and with this seasons theme week being in the sense of rebrands, I think there's no better time to put forward my thoughts into the greater VHL world! Now, work with me here. Let's say, hypothetically, we relocate the Las Vegas Aces to Denver, and bring back the Denver Metropolitans from the Pro-Am tournament back in August of last year as a full fledged VHLM team. Now obviously the biggest issue with this is rebranding one of the most storied and history rich franchises in the M with a whole new face, but things like that happen all the time in the VHL. Whether it be due to relocations, league moves like with a majority of the E teams that used to play in the M, or just outright relocations like many VHL franchises have over the years. New faces and team identities are very commonplace in the VHL as a function of leagues outright, so a quick move over the Rockies from Las Vegas to Denver would be on par with changes that happen often in the VHLM. I say Denver for a multitude of reasons too. I'm not the only one that wants to see a team in the VHL in Colorado, as @ShawnGlade has been one of the biggest supporters of a team in Denver for the longest time too, and I'm sure there are other members of the community that would love to see some Mile High City representation in the league as well. The community support is there, obviously Denver is a big hockey market as well so it makes sense to put an M team in the city for lore reasons, to continue to grow the game of hockey in a market hungry and very capable of taking on a VHL franchise. Even though the Mets didn't have the greatest Pro-Am showing (I think we only won like 3 games that entire tournament ), I believe that giving them a shot to be a full fledged team would be a great idea down the line. A case could even be made to spare relocating the Aces and just outright expanding the M if recruitment and an active player base allows for it to happen, but that's a whole other discussion for another time. All in all, I think a Denver Metropolitans rebrand would be an excellent idea, and while I did write this for the theme week, I have thought about how the Mets could be a team in the VHL as an independent thought for a while now, and am very curious to hear what other people think about Denver potentially getting a team at some point in either the M, or the VHL itself. Obviously there would be a lot that would need to go right in the website to justify a Colorado based team, whether through relocation or outright expansion, but it's a fun thought process to have, and I think it has a great place to be considered in detail by those in power. Review: These visualizers are extremely useful, and I personally have been loving seeing them around the leagues. As someone who is constantly reading and viewing pages upon pages of numbers, for my VHLM GM job as well as just a curious member of the community, it makes viewing stats and trends a lot easier than having to check game histories and stat pages all the time, it's all condensed into a really well done visual. I'm a big fan, and I would definitely love seeing more of these in the future!

There have been many great players in the history of the Aces. Just this last season, Stinky @taylorherd set the all-time points and goal records for the Aces, and history seems to be writing itself again, this time in the form of LW Pombo @samx. Pombo is a perfect player for the Aces, as he is capable of doing it all. He's lead the entire league in points for a majority of the regular season thus far, and has been the primary offensive factor for the Aces, outscoring the second place Ace by 16 points as of writing this, with 56 points in 37 games. Should this pace continue, we should see a comfortable 100+ point season from Pombo, which will put him very much in the conversation for many accolades and awards by seasons end. Considering Pombo was picked up near the end of the first round with the 9th overall pick, would it be crazy to say that Pombo might be the steal of the draft? Radio Las Vegas thinks so! The Jack Reilly Trophy is awarded annually to the top General Manager of the VHLM! To win this trophy is a lot more than just fielding a good team on the ice, as you have to be a smart negotiator in trades, adapt to an ever evolving league and maintain multiple players progression and success while trying to win the Founder’s Cup each season! VHLM General Managers provide a significant amount of the backbone that makes up the VHL, as most every player that’s played in the VHL had to first go through the VHLM and learn from their GM’s how to make builds and have successful careers! Tonight, we recognize those who went above and beyond for their teams and players! AJW - Houston Bulls AJ has consistently built strong teams who can make Cinderella runs for the Cup, and it’s no surprise that the Bulls GM is once again in consideration for the Jack Reilly Trophy! Tetricide - Miami Marauders In his last season as Miami’s GM before moving onto Prague, Tet fielded a very strong team which kept every team they went up against on their toes. A legend in the VHLM GMing community whose presence will be greatly missed moving forward! McLovin - Las Vegas Aces After building a team consisting mostly of his own referrals, the Aces have been near the top of the VHLM for a few seasons now both in standings and their potent offense, and made multiple strong pushes into the postseason! Grape - Ottawa Lynx Despite not having the best regular season in S92, Grape was a very active general manager this season, constantly moving pieces and ensuring his team can remain competitive long term! The Matt Bentz Trophy is awarded to the top two-way forward in the VHLM! With an emphasis on the defensive game that comes with winning this trophy, these are truly the best of the best the VHLM has to offer! Here are your nominees! Elle Aura Ashe (LVA) - 48 G, 52 A, 100P, +41, 42 PIM, 151 HIT, 19 SB Elle Aura Ashe is back with his second nomination of the night, and it’s easy to see why he’s here! A +41 is a remarkable number to have in terms of stats, and complementing it with 100 points and 150 hits makes this an easy nomination for the Matt Bentz! Jean-Pierre Devote (SDM) - 52 G, 54 A,106 P, +15, 54 PIM, 139 HIT, 58 SB Another familiar face, the goal leader of the regular season had a very strong showing this season defensively too, with 139 hits and a whopping 58 shots blocked as a forward, Jean-Pierre is a very deserving player to be in this category as well! Wayne Shotzky (OTT) - 48 G, 63 A, 111P, +2, 42 PIM, 128 HIT, 36 SB The S92 Ethan Osborne Trophy winner returns to the nominee grouping as being the best forward just wasn’t enough for him! With 128 hits and 42 PIMS, Wayne Shotzky was not afraid to get physical with other teams and help Ottawa across the ice! Vanuza Kolesinska (MIA) - 31 G, 48 A,79 P, +7, 50 PIM, 149 HIT, 23 SB While he wasn’t quite the point getter as the other nominees, Vanuza Kolesinska made up for that in their physical and defensive game! The Ryan Sullivan Trophy is awarded to the top defenseman in the VHLM! Being the best of this position has proven to be a greater task than usual as of late, so to be nominated in this award is quite the achievement by itself! Here are your S92 nominees for the Ryan Sullivan Trophy! Bric Sheithaus (LVA) - 15 G, 81 A, 96 P,+35, 86 PIM, 237 HIT, 149 SB When you’re a defenseman, numbers like Bric Sheithaus put up are impressive as is, but to also almost eclipse 100 points just for good measure? A truly remarkable two-way performance by the Aces D-man! Enn Jinn (PHI) - 21 G, 68 A, 89 P, +43, 86 PIM, 138 HIT, 128 SB A critical piece of the Reaper’s Cup run this season, Enn Jinn did everything his team needed and more with a dominating 200 foot game! A +43 in the plus/minus category is always a pretty number to see from a defenseman, too! Free Gorlab (MEX) - 30 G, 48 A, 78 P,+17, 86 PIM, 205 HIT, 143 SB The only defenseman on this list to score 30 goals, Free Gorlab’s offensive ability propelled him and his team up the score sheets and standings, and was able to match that an incredibly dominant physical game, putting up over 200 hits! Benjamin Abenduct (HOU) - 23 G, 58 A,81 P, +13, 78 PIM, 170 HIT, 100 SB Benjamin Abenduct did everything the Houston Bulls could’ve asked of him and more, being third in defenseman scoring having only 68 games played with over a point per game performance in the regular season, special teams play and physical game considered, Abenduct was absolutely a lethal player across the board, and our final nominee for the Ryan Sullivan Trophy! The Benoit Devereux Trophy is awarded to the top goaltender in the VHLM, and we have some truly elite goaltenders in this nominee list. As the league’s mentality has shifted to being more offensively minded, these goalies were above and beyond in shutting down the tough competition and carrying their teams to convincing wins. Let’s take a look at the nominees for the Benoit Devereux! Jorgen Lovstrom (PHI) - 48-8-4, .918SV%, 2.34 GAA, 3 SO With truly eye-watering stats like these, it’s no wonder Jorgen Lovestrom finds himself in yet another award category. Keeping the losses under double digits, especially with the aforementioned offenses Jorgen had to face in the regular season, makes this nomination no surprise to anybody! Aleksanteri Kaskiniemi-Kekkonen (MEX)- 39-24-4, .905 SV%, 2.63 GAA, 1 SO Mexico City’s strong third place in the standings this season is in large part to the great goaltending provided to them by Aleksanteri Kaskiniemi-Kekkonen. With the Kings having won 39 of the 41 wins they achieved this season with Kaskiniemi-Kekkonen in net, his play was of extreme value to the Kings! Samuel Wazinski (SDM) - 35-22-7, .904SV%, 2.91 GAA, 2 SO Samuel Wazinski in goal for San Diego provided them with a much needed failsafe between the pipes, and Wazinski came through for them day in and day out, putting up very strong numbers and being our final nominee for the Benoit Devereux Trophy! The Ethan Osborne Trophy is awarded annually to the player who scores the most points in the VHLM! This season had 5 players who eclipsed the 100 point marker, but two players from Ottawa were able to feed off each other's skill and outshined the rest of the league with 111 points each! Wayne Shotzky and Ivan Ivanov were threats all season, and dominated teams in their zone with goal scoring and playmaking abilities both 5 on 5, as well as on the powerplay and even the penalty kill. When you combine for over 200 points, 800 shots and 120 assists, it’s no wonder that this trophy is being awarded to both of these elite players!
