Greg_Di got a reaction from Gaikoku-hito in Eagles gives up A
While this happened at the start of the season, many news media did not pick up the story until now but it has been rumored and now confirmed that Henry Eagles  gave up his A to give to Nico Pearce.

"It's true, as soon as I found out we traded for Nico, I offered up my letter to him right away" Henry says "he deserves it, he has had a great career and it would be amazing for him to win the cup with us and with a letter on his shirt. He was our old captain and I wouldn't have felt right heading into the season if he didn't have a letter"

The move was seen as a positive throughout the Wolves team and the fan base. It also seemed to motivate the team as they currently sit in 3rd place in the NA conference.

" To me the main goal this season is to get Pearce that cup and for him to do it with Vancouver would be amazing" Henry continued "the team is doing everything we can to get into the playoffs and then go on a long run. We have a solid team on paper and should be the favorites to win...we need to win for Nico. He deserves it"

Greg_Di reacted to Scurvy in Wolves come out Firing!
As teams battling for the top spots.  After 5 games, The Wolves of Vancouver are in 2nd place with Calgary in first having played two more games.  The Wolves are firing too, scoring 21 goals in those 5 games and only allowing 13.  This speaks to a commitment to team defense and a brick wall of a goalie in Brant Fuhr.

Now I get its early in the season and a lot can change.  There are some deadly clubs in the NA with Calgary, LA, and Seattle and some beasts in the EU as well in Davos, Moscow (the team always battling for the top it seems), Riga, and Prague.   But early on this Vancouver club Is looking solid and built to win. The Wolves move in today with a 4 game win streak that they want to keep going.

Vancouver plays a back to back with a very tough and 1st place Seattle club today so we will get an early sense as to how this rivalry will play out.

Henry Eagles started off with a bang into the new season as he scored a hat-trick in his first game into the season.

Even though he notched 3 goals the Wolves still lost 6-5 as London managed to scored 5 unanswered goals in the 1st period. The comeback was close but it was not enough.

"Feel's great to be back on the ice and scoring goals" Henry said "it sucks losing and we had some rust to shake off at the beginning but once we found our legs and started playing hockey we looked good. I mean we were down 5-0 after the first and we fought back. Yeah we still lost 6-5 but im proud of the teams and our guys for not giving up!"

After 5 games so far this season, Henry has 3 goals and 5 assists for 8 points. Looks like Henry is off to a good start and if he can continue this pace, the Wolves should have no problem making the playoffs. The Wolves sit at 4-1 with the London game only being there loss so far.

Greg_Di got a reaction from Gaikoku-hito in Hot start for Eagles in world cup
If the World Cup is anything to go by, then it looks like Henry Eagles will be a force to be reckoned with this season.

4 games into the World Cup with his Eastern Europe team, Henry, sits with 6 goals and 3 assists for a total of 9 points. He was named #1 star in the tournament this week and leads the tournament in goals scored and points. He also after 4 games has an insane shooting percentage of 33.33% by scoring 6 in 18 shots. It seems like his off-season work on his shot has paid off.

This is also the first time Henry is playing in the world cup and representing Eastern Europe on the big stage.

In game 1, Eastern Europe faced off against Team USA and came out on top 4-2. EE put up 49 shots in the game and showed early that they will be a force to be reckoned with. The first game was Henry's worst game of the tournament as he only notched 1 goal.

In game 2 Eastern Europe once again faced off against the USA and it was a much closer game this time around with EE squeaking by with a 4-3 win. Henry Eagles showed up to this game as he put up 3 points. He got the game winning goal with 1:05 minutes left in the game and also helped out with 2 assists for a total of 3 points.

Game 3 saw Eastern Europe face Team Canada and it was another close one. EE edged out Canada 3-2. Eagles led the team with 2 goals as he continued his hot scoring pace.

In the last game of this week Eastern Europe faced off against Team Nordic and Won 4-3 in the shootout. Eagles put up another 2 goals and also added a helper to finish this game with 3 points.

"Things have been going great but I couldn't have put up numbers like these without my team-mates" Henry continued "now the goal is to continue playing at this pace and help our team win a gold medal. We have a very strong team and we all believe that we can win the gold. We are off to a 4-0 start which has been amazing"

Eastern Europe is also off to a hot start and are the early favorites for the tournament. They are currently the only team at this time of writing who are undefeated. If Henry can continue this pace we see no reason why Eastern Europe can't win the gold at the end of this tournament. Alot of their games have been 1 goal wins, so going forward they will have to find ways to build on their leads as in hockey, luck can go any way.

This showing by Henry is also good news for Vancouver who are expecting big things from their star player and to build on his last season. Many are predicting and even Henry himself has set this as his goal of notching 50 goals in the VHL this season.

Henry has set his goals for S89 and they will be slightly lower then what he expected in S88

"This season I am keeping my expectations in check and setting goals to something more reasonable" Henry said " This upcoming season I will go for the double 45's. 45 goals and 45 assists for a total of 90 points. I think this is very doable and it all honesty I think I will exceed it"

Last season Henry finished with 42 goals and 45 assists for 87 points which was close to his new targets but some way off his last seasons target which was 50 and 50 for 100 points.

"While I am still aiming for those individual awards, this season I want to focus more on getting us back to the cup. Wolves deserve another one and one for my career just won't cut it. So I guess you can throw that in as a third goal" Henry continued " While I will keep on shooting as much as possible, I will try to involve my team-mates more as well. I don't know who my line mates will be yet but we have a very solid offensive team so I will be happy to play with anyone"

Greg_Di reacted to VattghernCZ in Wann Kerr has got breakout season written all over him
After lighting up the VHLM for 41 goals and 97 points (10 goals and 24 points in 19 playoff games) with the Aces and leading the charge for the Gladiators with 37 goals and 84 points (9 goals and 18 points in 13 playoff games) in the VHLE the season after that, there were some expectations on Wann Kerr in his rookie season with the Wolves in S87.

When I say some expectations, I mostly mean not screwing the pooch for Vancouver's star forwards. It was certainly hard to predict Kerr scoring 20 goals (I still did so in my S86 theme week MS) and 44 points, entering the season as a ~490TPE player. The biggest ingredient to the success was undoubtedly playing with Nezuko @Baozi and Sergey Preobrazhensky @Bulduray_1, both 1000+TPA players.

The departure of Kerr's S87 high-end linemates had immediate effect on his stats, as he went on to score just 17 goals and 43 points in his sophomore season. But considering he was moved to center, and spent the season playing with a high-upside rookie Oreo McFleury @JB123 - but still a rookie, still early in their development - on one wing, and a rotation of players like Bob Vladovechsenkchushkin @Grape or Kyle Peace @Peace - very good players, but lacking the star power of Nezuko and Preo, on the other wing, I'd personally argue this season was good for Kerr. Even though I wanted him to hit 20 goals again, and score around 50 points. He was asked to take on more responsibilities, and showed glimpses of being ready to contribute more.

My consistent max capped earning really allows me to build Kerr the way I like - which is more of a two-way possession driving center rather than a high offense scoring machine; an unsung hero. And looking at a few full game logs, Kerr made huge strides in this area. I'm mostly talking about retrieving loose pucks, creating takeaways with bodychecks (the 5'9" 189lbs cannonball with 89 strength is already surprisingly effective) and limiting giveaways. Stats that are unfortunately not tracked, you have to look at play-by-plays to really evaluate this. And I like the direction Kerr's development is going. Defense will always be my highest priority stat, and with some added skating (hand in hand with puck handling) - which is my main focus during the offseason - my player should be even more effective in these areas next season.

Of course, to really help the puck possession, another thing I need to put more TPE in is faceoffs. My plan was to start the season with 75 STHS stat, but @Frank brought to my attention it would be a good idea to get to 80 as soon as possible.

So overall, I think Kerr is in a good spot to have a strong season in S89, starting as a 800-ish TPE player. There's one other thing that could really help. NICO F#CKING PEARCE @Spartan returning to Vancouver. It may be late in Nico's career, but he's still one of the best players to ever play the game, who's scored 96 points last season. Bob Vladovechsenkchushkin has just anounced his retirement, which leaves the Wolves with 6 roster forwards at the time of writing this: Nico Pearce (LW, 1197TPA), Dogwood Maple (C, 1116TPA) @dogwoodmaple, Henry Eagles (RW, 1068TPA) @Greg_Di, Wann Kerr (C, 777TPA), Oreo McFleury (RW, 624TPA) and S.nubbed Analfist (RW, 549TPA) @STZ.

Maple and Eagles were the Wolves' top forwards last season. They were called "peanut butter and jelly" a few times. With Analfist, they were a formiddable forward line, and there's no reason why should this duo be separated. The Wolves can then decide about Pearce two ways - stack the first line and play Kerr with the two sophomore studs on the second line, or spread the wealth and pair Pearce (or Eagles) with Kerr.

Either way, Kerr is bound to have a breakout season. Can Pearce's arrival make it a Dustin Funk Trophy consideration worthy one?

I always like re-draft topics and other members opinion on them. Great list with breakdown of why you think the players should have gone in that position (now after 9seasons) For me I would still have Papa #1 and Jerome #2. Goalies to me are usually the #1 player that can make or break a team. It was a great article to read, the only thing I would add is maybe a picture and also maybe tag the members who created those players. I know most like to see these kinds of things. 9/10!

    S88 Vancouver Wolves Season Awards

It is that time of year again where we are handing out some team hardware. It was an up and down season in Vancouver with a horrible start to the season but the team turned things around and made another run towards the play-offs before once again meeting the Seattle Bears. It was a close series and if the Bears don`t choke should be the team taking home the cup this season. Vancouver Wolves will start looking towards next season and that all starts today with the team awards. So lets get started......

Best defenseman: How the defence changed as the season progressed as the team started the season with D - Pierre Emile Bouchard @Gaikoku-hito, D - Jimmy MacElroy @Xflexz,  D - Jens Lekman @Bobcat and   D - Ryuji Sakamoto @der meister as the team looked to the defence for early season success at shutting down the leagues offense. Clearly after about 20 games this wasn`t going to work and D - Ryuji Sakamoto @der meisterwas traded to Helsinki Titians for D - Marcel Janser @Morcar80 & S89 RIG 2nd. Who didn`t even have a cup of coffee with the team before he was traded to London United for D - Branden Skuin @DrunkMonkey23 and S89 DAV 2nd. One week later and both D - Branden Skuin @DrunkMonkey23 and S89 DAV 2nd would be traded for LW - Kyle Peace @Peace from Toronto Legion that would really help turn the Wolves season around. Team completed the rebuild with the signing of UFA D - Logain Ablar @Kesler. Jimmy MacElroy @Xflexz had a very strong season with 61pts and 158 SB but struggled a bit on the defensive side of the puck with a -9 by the end of the season and D - Jens Lekman @Bobcat also had a very strong season with 32pts, 139 SB with a +23 by the end of the season but at the end of the day it was clear who was leading the back end of the team and the award is given to:

Rookie of the Year: The Vancouver Wolves were blessed with two great rookies this season joining the roster in RW - Oreo McFleury @JB123 and RW - FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY Analfist @STZ. They have made it really tough this season to pick a winner of this award as both had really similar numbers with RW - Oreo McFleury @JB123 finishing with 9G – 20A – 29pts but a -14. While RW - FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY Analfist @STZ had 8G – 13A – 21pts and +17. So, are we going with the points leader or better defensive minded rookie this season?

The Rookie of the Year is:

Unsung Hero:  Easily one of the hardest awards to give out yearly as they aren`t aways at the fore front but always seem to be chipping in and doing the right things to help the team win. As I actually added this recently to as Press Conference question it was interesting to see the divided response from the locker room as cases being made for RW – Bob Vladovechsenkchushkin @Grape, D - Jimmy MacElroy @Xflexz, D - Jens Lekman @Bobcat and LW - Kyle Peace @Peace showing just how difficult it is to award the Unsung Hero award.

Finally, the Unsung Hero Award is awarded to:

Most Energetic: Why are some of these awards so tough to hand-out? Either way when I think of this award winner I think of Character, activity and energy around the teams locker room. Last season we had four players consider for this award but this year it was clearly three players that stood out in the locker room in Wann Kerr @VattghernCZ, Dogwood Maple @dogwoodmaple and FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY Analfist @STZ.

This season Most Energetic award goes to:

Most Valuable player: Oh, In the past this was always a bit easier to award than this season as we had two standout seasons from two players looking to lead the team for the next few seasons in C - Dogwood Maple @dogwoodmaple and RW - Henry Eagles @Greg_Di. Really there isn`t much difference between the two players as they are only separated by five points. This was also asked a press question not that long ago with one of the players summing it up the best;” these two are peanut butter and jelly.” Bouchard @Gaikoku-hito was also given a nod but I am not considering him due to having a down season compared to previous one.

    The Vancouver Wolves MVP is:

    Little Wolf Award (Most Hits):

    Sniper Award (Shooting percentage):

    Final Thoughts:
It was a great season of growth and sadly slightly expected that we would take a slight step back this season due to having a young roster that will be set for the next few years as we have set the team up for success and another run at a Cup. This season seen a ton of growth throughout the line-up with break out season for Maples, Eagles, and Jimmy. Two rookies joined the roster and will only improve alongside last years rookie Wann Kerr. Will look for slightly better season from Bouchard & Fuhr but overall, the team seems to be in good shape heading into next season. It was an up and down season but overall we managed to scare a lot of the other teams with the way we bounced back and made the play-offs. Sadly we say good-bye to some veteran players that played a huge role in our turn around this season in Kyle Peace, Matt Avens and Logain Ablar. You will always be part of the pack!!

Greg_Di got a reaction from Gaikoku-hito in Eagles prepping for season ahead
The season may have already ended for Henry Eagles and the Wolves but the player who will be entering his 5th season in the VHL has already started working towards getting better for next season.

"My training never stops, I barely take any time off in the off-season as I want to ensure I keep getting better" Henry says "and with the 5th season being my last before this old age regression thing kicks in, I need to ensure I am training as much as I can to counter-act that"

The Wolves will have an interesting off-season and season ahead as the team needs to decide if they can compete with the core they have or if they will need to rebuild

"If I was in Management, I would say that we still have the team to win it. With a key off-season signing and maybe a trade or two we can be back in the playoff next season" Henry says "But I am not management and once they are ready they will let us players know. I have full faith in the management team in whatever way they go and am excited to see how that plays out. Either way it should be a great off-season for the Wolves"
