Scott Greene’s Odd Behavior During Game Investigagted By Billy Maltball May 27th, 2019 The Mississauga Hounds lost to the Ottawa Lynx 5-3 on Sunday, May 27th. The Hounds played well, but just weren’t able to hold off the Ottawa players. One player for the Hounds, Scott Greene, seemed particularly odd. Before the game, he could be seen laughing while looking at his hand for five minutes and professing his love for Phish and Grateful Dead. His odd behavior continued during the game, at one point approaching the referee and trying to order a ridiculous amount of food. “He skated up to me, during play mind you, and proceeded to order the largest amount of food I’ve ever heard. I remember it clearly! He ordered two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda. I don’t know how anyone would ever be able to eat that much. His eyes were huge, and he seemed sweaty. I don’t know what was wrong with him!” After checking with the Hounds Front Office, we managed to get to the bottom of this odd report. Greene was seen drinking from a tye-dyed water bottle belonging to Hounds GM Jerry Garcia. When asked about what might have been in the water bottle, Garcia proceeded to eat the sandwich he had in front of him. After waiting 30 minutes, Garcia replied “Sorry, man. I can’t hear you, this sandwich is too good.” Greene was asked to report to a local medical facility so he may be inspected by a doctor. We will update this story as it develops.

1. This is 100% just a phase. All the best teams have to have luck on their side to succeed sometimes. We haven't had that luck lately, but I'm sure that it'll come back to us soon. 2. 1. Unfortunately and fortunately, the vast majority of my time has been spent speaking with our own locker room, which has been wonderful! I'll look to expanding my friendships with people on other teams in the future! 2. Gotta go with the Hulkster, brother. 3. Speaking of whom, I'm not in the least bit surprised. Hulkamania is running wild, and he's gotta pose! 4. I'm not sure I played a MAJOR role in their success, but I'm sure I've helped plenty of ways that don't show on the scoreboard. My faceoff record is pretty good, and you can't score if you don't have the puck! 5. I'm not unhappy, but I'm not thrilled either. I know I'm progressing as a player, but anything short of a hat trick is disappointing to me. 6. I'm honestly not so sure we even need to worry about Saskatoon, Philadelphia, or Ottawa much longer if we keep progressing the way we are!

Still Too Greene? Scott Greene had high hopes for his rookie season for the Mississauga Hounds, but so far has failed to impress. By Billy Maltball Any time an expansion team is formed, the world gets excited to see what might come of them. Most wallow in mediocrity, some have very strong starts, and others go all the way in their first couple of seasons. It was into this atmosphere that Scott Greene first stepped into the Mississauga Hounds locker room this past month. A standout star in Richmond, VA, Greene made his way to the VHLM and took the first step towards a lifelong dream of playing in the VHL. “When I first stepped into the room and met all the guys, we were all excited, ya know? It felt like we could take on the world, like we were unbeatable,” says Greene. Paramount Fine Foods Centre, home of the Mississauga Hounds While not unbeatable, the Mississauga Hounds have had a strong season so far. The team sits at 11-8-2, with strong recents showings in the win against the Ottawa Lynx, a very close game against the Saskatoon Wild, and a shoot-out loss to the Halifax 21st. Greene, who plays Center on the first forward line, is an integral part of the team. He hasn’t, however, been the star that he wanted to be so far. “I was hoping to score at least once a game. High expectations, I know. But I feel like I could be so much better. I guess it’s just an adjustment period.” He currently has 4 goals and 6 assists, which is quite a bit further from where he was hoping. Greene also hasn’t been particularly impressive in his last few games. Greene: “In both the Saskatoon and Ottawa games, I couldn’t get anything going. I felt like every time I hit my stride, something slowed my momentum down. The most recent Halifax game I helped, but we lost that one. I keep telling myself ‘push hard’, but I’m not sure what it is. The guys keep telling me not to worry, but I was hoping to do more, ya know? My girlfriend, Marina, has really been the saving grace here. It’s nice to just be with here in Mississauga with her to unwind.” The view from Scott and Marina’s apartment complex balcony in Mississauga This momentum is something that Greene isn’t used to missing. Back in his time on the Richmond Dragons, Greene would regularly net at least one point per game. He was noted for his ability to score in every way, but now he’s finding out that the VHLM is an entirely different animal. “Am I worried I bit off more than I can chew? No, not at all. There’s a learning curve, sure, but I have too keep my head up.” This isn’t to say that Greene can’t find his stride. There are several teams that he and the Hounds have done notably well against, like the Halifax 21st. The Hounds have two more upcoming games against the Halifax 21st. Greene has been able to score against Halifax almost every time he’s played against them. He’s optimistic that he’ll be able to show a little bit more of himself off in the remaining games. “I love playing Halifax. They’re a great team with a great bunch of guys. The games are always close, and I feel comfortable on the ice against them. Johnson is very capable between the pipes, and so is Gunnarsson. I’m looking forward to seeing them again. And seeing the lights flash when I bury the puck in the net behind them!” His starting counterpart at Halifax will likely be Nacho, a center for the 21st. He and Greene are both very good at faceoffs, and Greene is perhaps the most capable person on the Hounds team in the face off circle, but he hasn’t been able to translate that into the star-making performances that he grew up dreaming about. Despite his personal worries, he realizes that he is there for the team and not the other way around. “It’s very much a team game. As long as the team is doing well, I’m happy. And I am happy so far with how the season is going. We’re all learning. But I think all of us wanted to show the world how impressive we are. It’s been good, but I just feel like we could truly be GREAT. We just have to figure out how.” Before one of the upcoming games, Greene plans to get out early and actually see Halifax. “The last couple of times that I’ve been there, it’s show up, play, then leave. I want to actually see the city this time. Marina and I plan on visiting the Halifax Public Gardens, and maybe the Waterfront Boardwalk. I’m gonna see if any of my friends want to come with me. I want to know what the local specialty is, food wise, because I’m a huge foodie. I’ll be honest, I don’t know anything about Halifax, but the city seems very nice.” Greene has assured us that he will be all business in the upcoming games. After the Hounds take on the 21st, they face the number four ranked San Diego Marlins and the number two ranked Ottawa Lynx. The Hounds were able to knock the Lynx down a peg during their last meeting, and Greene hopes by the time those games come around, the momentum he was seeking will be back with him. Halifax Waterfront With the season well underway, the whole world is waiting for a clear leader in the team standings and for some standout performances by the players. Time isn’t running out, but there isn’t as much as there used to be for Greene to show off like he wanted to. He is certain, however, that he’s ready to face the challenges. “I’m by no means out of steam yet. I’m just getting started. All of this is just the beginning. I think me and the Hounds are about to really come into our own. After Halifax, San Diego, and Ottawa, we’re going to be unstoppable. I believe in us, and the whole world should too!” The Hounds are a young team full of hopes and dreams. Scott Greene shook Richmond with his skills - now, he looks to start his legacy By Billy Maltball (From the Richmond Times-Dispatch, May 16th 2019) The house is a single story gray ranch house with a red door. The kind of house you get all too used to seeing in the suburbs. Wooden front deck, a wooden swing surrounded by wind chimes, and a few mint bushes under the front windows providing a sweet scent on this warm sunny day. This is the house that Scott Greene, star player of the Richmond Dragons ice hockey team, was raised in, and where he chose to meet us. He had moved back home to Mechanicsville after college to be with his mother. His father, Doug, passed away last July. “It’s nice having him back home, but I don’t want him worrying about me!” said Lucy, Greene’s mother. “I’m not going anywhere!” “It’s not you I’m worried about, mom! I’m going to have to move to another city if I get drafted, and that city might not be close by at all” said Scott. Scott Greene, 2016 Greene was drafted by the Mississauga Hounds following this first interview we had with him, and it’s easy to see why. A standout star while playing center for the Dragons, he led the team to win the East Coast Championship for the 2018-2019 season. Richmond, Virginia isn’t exactly what most people would think of as a hockey city anymore, but Greene has been in love with it ever since his childhood, and eventually landed a spot on the Dragons. Greene was a valuable scorer for the team with 28 goals and 40 points in his last season with the team. He is confident that he would be a valuable addition to any team that would draft him. “I’ve been playing the game my whole life, and it’s always been my dream to play on a professional team! I know my dad would be proud of what I’ve accomplished, but I don’t want to settle. I want to play in the VHL!” Born in the Old Dominion Scott Allen Green was born on June 16th, 1996 in Richmond, Virginia, to Lucy and Douglas Greene. Scott’s father was an insurance salesman and his mother worked in a law office. Hockey was not originally a part of his upbringing; his parents were more fans of football than hockey, despite Scott’s father playing hockey locally when he was younger. His upbringing was pretty typical, but his family was anything but. His parents had him when they were fairly young, and still wanted to pursue their dreams. His parents started filming a local television show, and used Scott as one of the actors. Even to this day, he is never nervous around a camera. His love for hockey started when the family took young Scott to see a Richmond Dragons game. Scott was taken with the sport and soon started to view the sport with his father any chance that he got. As he grew older, Scott started bugging his parents to let him play. When it wasn’t time for school, Scott would head down to the local ice rink to practice his skating. He made a few friends in school and at the rink, and soon started competing with his own friends in self-made teams. His parents were very patient and glad that their son had discovered a passion. In addition to this, he started learning guitar with his father. “My father always loved music,” says Greene. “Some of his favorites to play were John Prine and Bob Dylan tunes. He would sing them to me as I tried to go to sleep when I was younger. Now that he’s gone, I’m going to have to take care of his guitar!” Greene would play guitar with some of his friends from school and still continues to do so to this day. Greene kept this up through middle school. It was there that he first thought about taking his passion seriously. His coach at the time, Thomas Halsey, encouraged him to study and play to the highest level that he could. Scott worked harder and harder, but the teams he was on couldn’t quite get to the level that he wanted. After moving on to high school, Greene experienced his first taste of victory. His team made it all the way to the local finals and won. However, his grades started to slip as a result of his devotion to the sport, and had to sit out the next year to focus on his school work because he didn’t meet the minimum academic requirements. He has nothing but endless troubles with science and math, which he found boring. He loved his toy though, and it was during this time that he started to read up more on the sport’s history and philosophies of some of its greatest players, something that he still does to this day. After buckling down and getting good grades in his classes again, Greene was able to rejoin and secure a spot on the high school’s team in his Senior year. The team was able to win the championship again, and Scott started to set his sights on college. College Days Greene enrolled in Virginia Commonwealth University with the intent to study philosophy. He was a big fan of the teachings of Socrates, Lao-tzu, and the Buddha and wanted to learn more about the world of philosophy so he could make the world a better place through knowledge. He also had his audition and secured a spot on the Richmond Dragons at this time. While studying in school, Greene tried hard not to fall back into his old lazy ways. It wasn’t easy; he made friends quickly and went to many parties and events with his friends. It was when he almost got killed jumping out of the way of a train on one particularly drunken night that he decided to shape up. He got back in the gym and really focused on his play. He studied hard in his courses and finally graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy. All was not well at home, however. His father had been diagnosed with lung cancer, and it wasn’t looking too good for him. “My father was always a smoker, and I figured it would catch up with him one day” says Greene. “He’s always been my reason for tempering my addictions. I’m scared that I could just as easily get addicted to alcohol or cigarettes as well. It’s something I don’t want to risk.” Greene’s father passed away this past July, which prompted him to move back in with his mother for a time to help her adjust. Beginning in May of 2019, however, Scott was drafted to the Mississauga Hounds and has had to live up there. What Comes Next? “What do I want to do in the league? Well, I have a lot of motivation to try and succeed. I want to make my father and mother proud,” says Greene. Greene wears his father’s old number, 42, in his memory. The first season ever for the Mississauga Hounds has been a little tougher for Greene, but he’s optimistic. “I’m looking forward to growing into a top player for the team! The guys are all fantastic, except for when Hulk Hogan is trying to leg drop on me! But they’ve actually taught me a lot and I hope I can continue to contribute for them. The VHLM is a completely different animal from playing for the Richmond Dragons, but I know I’m going to make an impact!” Greene has contributed a number of goals and scored a few points here in his first season. Only time will tell how much of an impact the Richmond native will have.

1. I think we have the potential to do very well this season. Our players are putting in the work and making sure that we aren't forgotten. 2. It's going to be a while before we have the showdown we've all been waiting for, but our friend Hulk Hogan has the superior pedigree. As far as I'm concerned, the question should be "What you gonna do, brother? What you gonna do when Hulkamania runs wild on you?" 3. Our next priority should to be to continue to build a caring locker room and make sure that the new players are engaged. I know I have been encouraged to do well, and if we can keep that spirit up with the rest of the team, we're going to be powerhouses in no time! 4. I think it proves that any team, even an expansion team like ours, is capable of doing very well. It comes down to teamwork, hard work, and a little bit of luck. These are things our team has for the most part, so I see us continuing to do well. 5. Definitely the interactions with other players in the Discord. I don't say much, but it's nice to see a continuing conversation there and to have people to ask for advice easily within reach. 6. The hardest part is waiting for the games to be simmed everyday. I hope I do well, and I really hate waiting to see if I did or not. Nothing you can really do about that, I guess.

1. I don't think it's a bad thing at all. I welcome the opportunity to work with other rookie players, and I hope we can all grow together! 2. The defensive depth is a little concerning, but I believe in management. This is a new team, and the kinks need to be worked out. Once all the wrinkles are ironed out, this team will be one to pay attention to. Also, Hogan always goes over, brother. 3.The Mexico City Kings and we are brand new teams, but, despite that, we both already have rabid fan bases. I welcome the opportunity for any drama and rivalry, because that will make our team better in the long run. That said, @Nykonax is about to find out how uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. The MCK are going down. 4. I'd probably go for San Diego. I hear it's a wonderful city, and I just really want to be part of an expansion team! 5. Likewise, I'd love to go to Seattle, and bears are one of my favorite animals! 6. I think we may have had one of the riskier drafts, and @GustavMattias's strategy is bold, but I think it will pay off. Opting to go for a solid goaltender and building from there will pay off in spades.

1. I had a strong feeling it was going to be Mississauga. @GustavMattias was one of only a few GMs that message me. He was very helpful and I got the sense he wanted new players to succeed! 2. I really like the team so far! Everyone has been very nice and warm! I think we're going to turn this league upside down! 3. I plan on building a very offensive forward. I want to try to lead the VHLM in goals, so we're gonna see what happens! 4. It would have to be a tie between @GustavMattias and @Radcow! Both were very welcoming and helpful in getting me set up and answering questions that I had! 5. I don't know enough about the teams to have an accurate idea, but I know I plan on trying my hardest to win the big one! They probably will all be tough to beat, but nothing worth winning is easy to win! 6. I'm going to have 65 goals and 120 points this season. Let's go!!
