Word from the Halifax front office is that goaltender Thorvald Gunnarsson is dealing with a lower body injury. He is currently listed as day to day. Gunnarsson appears to have been injured at the 19:05 mark of the second period of the 21st's game against the Yukon Rush. While attempting to make a save on a Nico Suleryski shot, Gunnarson went down. He was reaching right while sliding left and may have overextended himself.

Gunnarsson stayed down after conceding the goal and appeared to be favoring his right thigh and knee. He had to be assisted off of the ice by the trainers and did not return to the bench. Michael Johnson came on in relief and was able to get the win in a shootout.

Halifax has offered no updates on the extent of the injury. Gunnarsson has been sitting on the bench as a backup for Johnson, although he has not practiced much since the injury.

Saelven88 reacted to Steve in Rookie Defenseman
Being consistent and focused are the foundation of defenseman Guy LeGrande of the Halifax 21st team. He is known as a “Blue Collar” worker that puts in the time in practice to become better in his chosen position. He doesn't expect any sort of spotlight or highlight reels of him, but he does what he loves to do, keep the puck out of his own net.

Working with teammates has helped his game as the chemistry is apparent. He wants to be counted on in critical moments in games and he has shown the ability to play the game in an honest way. Hard working shutdown defenseman are always welcome in any league and Guy knows what it will take to leave his mark in the league when his career is over. He is very devoted to the game and his team.

Guy got his first goal of the season in his last game and when asked about how he felt about how scoring his first goal felt, he replied, “ Keeping pucks out of our net is my job, anything else is just icing on the cake”.

With the proper fortitude and willingness to work towards his career goals, I see a bright future for the “Blue Collar” defenseman Guy LeGrande.

I know what you're thinking,  did Acyd Burn finally lose his virginity? Nope! That hymen is still intact.

Instead he was explosive against the Las Vegas Aces, accumulating a goal ,4 assists, and 4 penalty minutes to earn him first star. In the first period, his first point came on the power play from an assist on Blake Gaudettes 22nd goal at 2:44. The next was his lone goal fed by Passerelli at 4.52. Followed by a 2 minute minor for hooking at 14:07. To close out the period he assist on Guy LeGrandes first goal of the season at 19:24. Period 2 was followed by an assist on Passelli's 24th of the season at 1:11 and another assist at 4:50 on the PP on Blake Gaudettes 23rd. Capped off by an Interference minor at 12:32 in the second. He was held off the score sheet in the 3rd and the Halifax 21st earned their 21st win of the season.

Michael Johnson can’t seem to get it going when he’s starting games. Thorvald started 5+ games in a row due to this. Michael did relieve Thorvald a few times and looked incredible off the bench. Although, when Michael has been starting his games, he’s been absolutely lackluster.

Against the last placed Houston Bulls, Michael let in 4 goals on 19 shots for 15 saves. This leaves his save percentage at 0.789 which has brought his record at 5-5-1. If stats told a story, it would be that Michael has been carried by the rest of his team.

I caught up with Johnson real quik to get a quik gauge on his thoughts on this.

“I need to get into the game quicker. It seems like right now I’m letting the nerves get to me and it’s apparent that my pre-game ritual isn’t working as well. I’ve been talking to the leaders in the locker room and coaches and they’re all helping me work on being consistent on the ice”
