Who do you think is the strangest person in our locker room? Me, prolly.
  2. 1. Halifax has had a very solid season thus far and sits fifth in the league through 34 games. Our offense is second best in the league (127 goals for) but our defense has been a big problem and has us seventh in the league (119 goals against). Would you like us to try and add some better defensive personnel or do you think it is a tactics issue? I have faith that the management team will do what needs to be done to make us competitive for the playoffs. 2. With that said Halifax veteran β-MOS G1 has recently lost his job to newcomer Bruce Theodore. While Theodore has put up much better stats in his five starts are you going to miss β-MOS G1 at all? You always care for your team mates - but we need to ice the best team possible! 3. There is a team reunion dinner that includes some alumni scheduled for this weekend. The invitation says it is a potluck. What are you bringing for the team? Rum balls! 4. If the dream of playing professional hockey for a living hadn’t worked out where do you think you’d be right now? Golfing! 5. We have been on a heater as of late going 7-3 in our last 10. Has anyone’s play over that stretch really caught your eye and impressed you? I think as a team we have been playing great. It would be a shame to pick out anyone specific. 6. Tell us a fun fact about yourself. We are all about getting to know our guys around the locker room better and this is a good place to start with some fresh faces around here. When I was four - I presented flowers to the Queen and she is still fucking alive!
  3. https://vhlportal.com/players/playerfocus/2115 Balentine Kidd got to 200 TPE +10 TPE
  4. 3. Where did your choice of jersey number come from? My player wears 94 for Leafs’ legend Sergei Berezin. What about you? To be honest - I am not really concerned with my jersey number. Through the ranks - I have worn so many different numbers as I was always the biggest guy on the team and had to take one of the biggest jerseys. 4. Have the staff at the Halifax 21st been as helpful to you as you believe they should have been? Have they provided you with all of the information you think you require? Absolutely - its great! I have been a little busy and more inactive than id like to be and they are always checking in on me! Thanks guys! 6. Do you agree with the choices for captains for the squad? Would you like to see a change in the way we select our captains in the future? Being a captain is a privilege and the guys chosen should be honored. I am sure they will be great! 7. We recently (today) traded our first and fourth round picks in next year’s draft for defenseman Aamon Grim @aCrypticPancake. Are you happy with this move and do you think trading futures was the right move for the team this year? Lets win! Lets make the playoffs! 9. Similar to the question above do you have any buddies that play on other teams around the VHLM? Someone you grew up with or played with before the VHLM? If not who is your best buddy on our squad? Balentine Kidd and Telkster and I know each other and those guys are kickin in VHLM. Having some success! 10. Do you have any superstitions when it comes to playing the game of hockey? Maybe an old piece of equipment you haven’t thrown out in years or the order you put on your equipment? I like to be last on and off the ice!

I had no expectations. I trailed off a bit leading up tot he draft for personal issues. So looking forward to being a steal! 3.) What do you think of Halifax so far? Having good fun - everyone is great! Cant wait to win together! 4.) For those who don't know, what type of player do you intend to become? A balanced player with a good mix of offence and defence. 5.) What do you think we can achieve in Halifax this season? Win it all! 6.) Who is your favourite NHL player and team? Habbies!
  6. I may be a little late for the party... Liam Rooney Forward Hitting 98/30 = 3.3 Points 25/10 = 2.5 Total = 5.8 - rounded to 6 TPE. 2.5 + 3.3
  7. Season 67 Ends for Rooney The season is over and for youngsters to the league like Liam Rooney there is a lot of uncertainty heading into season 68. Where will they be drafted? Both into the VHL and VHLM. Will they be joining new franchises?? It is an interesting time – that’s for sure. At the season-end Rooney has done a lot of things and lived up the hype brought on by his rookie profile. At the time Rooney told us that skating would be a minor concern. Now – we aren’t saying that his skating is terrible. But it is an area that has not seen a whole lot of improvement. Despite this lack of skating proficiency. Rooney is a great defender. As well, he has a great tendency to pass the puck into open areas and can thread a needle with the puck on his stick. With a few weeks remaining until Season 68 begins – Rooney has time to develop on his skating prowess. We look forward to seeing where he is drafted and where he can slot in moving forward!
  8. 1. The season is over for us! How does your player plan to spend the offseason? Golfing, beaching, volleyball - like in Top Gun! 2. What are your plans for next season? Where do you hope to be drafted in the VHL? If you're being drafted in the VHLM, where do you hope to go there? I have no preference. I am going to have fun with it - see what happens! 3. Who do you want to win the cup now that we're out of it? Of course! Everyone wants to win championships - we will see how it goes! 4. Who do you think will win the cup? I haven't looked tbh. I have been golfing too much. 5. What are your thoughts on a few Hounds alumni invading our press conference last week? Is this Bana's attempt at flattery, a takeover, or both? Haha, let em have at 'er. Welcome to the thread! 6. What are your opinions on the newly-announced VHL expansion? How would you feel about playing for one of the two new teams? I love it. Hopefully everyone will have fun!

  12. Decisions Are Never Easy At the very core of his or her being – an athlete is an individual who can make acute and precise decisions in a minimal amount of time to accomplish a goal. Think about it. Your favourite hockey player steps on the ice and immediately starts calculating. Where do I need to go? Who has the puck? Is it possible for me to get the puck? Or, should I let my teammate gather it? Ok, we have the puck now. Where do I need to go to put myself in position to get the puck? Where are the opposition positioned? Is there room for me to make a run at the net - if I do get the puck? Should I not even be thinking about getting the puck and working to support someone else who gets it instead? Were in the offensive zone now. Where are the soft spots? Where do I need to go to be hidden? Should I shoot – or pass? Deke? A perfect play – is a perfect set of decisions made properly. As you likely opined – the above is a lot of questions in a very minimal amount of time. Hesitate once and you cost your team. Make a wrong decision and the puck goes the other way. A perfect decision and you could be celebrating to goal horns. Needless to say – making decisions is hard. But we must all make them. Some of us choose to put ourselves in the position to make easy decisions, “Will I go to the bathroom this time? Or just let it out in my pants?” or, “Will I shower today? Or should I not to distract my co-workers.” Fundamental decisions that have some level of impact on a day but really do not carry much weight. Others choose to be leaders and must make the tough decisions – as we have seen in the VHL over the last 48-hours. No decision comes without a consequence. I tell my kiddos this all the time. You are free to make a choice. But you are not free from the consequences of that choice. This is an exciting time for the VHL – the management group – the GMs – the players. The VHL is expanding! We are opening the gates and positioning ourselves for growth and new heights as this league moves forward. But as was obvious – first that raw future needed a direction. Anyway – down to the point of this media spot on expansion. With all the noise over the last 24-hours – I felt it necessary to give a quik shout-out to an individual that I know will be a great GM for the expansion franchise that is now newly established. It was three weeks ago that Enorama came into the EHM league that I Commish and posted his article about the VHL and how awesome it is. Since making the decision to join this league – he has been the voice, taken the care and has pushed forward the same qualities that some individuals have thrown around in favour of another individual that was unfortunately passed over in this instance for the role. Personally – having talked with Enorama at length about the league – his thoughts on it and his plans. As well as having him assist both myself and two other recruits. These qualities have helped push me to become an active member and stay engaged – albeit briefly – within this community. I understand that we all don’t have to agree with the decisions that are made – all the time. Congrats @Enorama! As the guy who brought me into VHL – I am pumped to see you get your team and look forward to watching your successes!
  13. A Tale of Two Skill-Sets Since being integrated into the draft ranking system on the 1st of August – eleven days ago – Mississauga Hound Liam Rooney has seen his draft stock rising. The young Center has risen 16 spots in the rankings in just under two weeks – which will bode well for any team looking to take a dedicated Center. “I just go out there and control what I can control.” Said Rooney after practice this afternoon, “I think it is a little bit frivolous to look at the rankings and try to will where I land. There is no point.” With 8 goals and 20 assists in 34 games on the season thus far – what is most impressive has been Rooney’s ability to play sound defence and keep the opposition in check during his minutes. In the 34 games that Rooney has played for the Hounds thus far this season – he rated as a minus 9. To give these numbers context – we look at Rooney’s teammate and friend. Ballentine Kidd has been enigmatic as a scorer in his first season in the VHLM. Currently sitting second in points – with a minus 27 rating. The two skaters are 6 points apart. So what is more important when analyzing talent – do the 6 extra points make-up for the 18 extra minuses? Does it matter? Do VHL GMs look at VHLM stats when selecting draftees or is it about more? Needless to say – the Mississauga Hounds have a talented pair of Centers who draw comparisons to one another due to the time they have spent in the league and the abilities they hold. Let us see where they get drafted!
  14. Expansion Drafts Anyone? Expansion is a hot topic as the VHL looks to expand its repetoire of teams to unseen hights next season. But what are the validities of things like an expansion draft. Do they work in leagues like the VHL? Throughout the history of orgnaized hockey - there have been several instances of expansion. Early expansion off of the original-6 occurred through time. With these teams enjoying limited successes in their first seasons - or several. This lead the NHL to re-think and re-implement its process on expansion and how these teams can acquire the talent that they put on ice in their innagural seasons. And it worked! The Vegas Golden knights were a resounding success - making the Stanley Cup Final in their first at-bat. Will the VHL be looking to strike gold for their expansion teams in the same manner? While it is hard to say for now - with the topic of expansion still fresh on our minds and a lot of the t's and i's being dotted and/or crossed. We can still ponder what an expansion draft may look like. If an expansion draft were to occur to help bolster the rosters of our newer franchises - who would be made available for selection? Would the limitness of trades and the fury of activity enjoyed during the Vegas expansion be allowed? As a memeber of the first rookie draft class to be exposed to these brand spanking new franchises - the idea of being able to cut my teeth with a franchise not tainted by history is exciting. I look forward to seeing where this goes moving forward. Expansion!
  15. 1. Some noteworthy names have recreated (or even reappeared) this season after the deadline--Beaviss, omgitshim, and STZ, to name a few. All three went to Philadelphia, a team with a good shot at the cup. Do they, in your opinion, have the time that they need to develop into significant players for their team, or are they simply too far behind as far as this season is concerned? I think depth is important in any cup win. So sure - maybe they won't be the creme-de-la-crop - but they will still likely contribute! 2. If you've seen the "unban boubabi" discussion around the site, do you have an opinion? If so, what is it and why? I will need to learn more before I comment. 3. What's your favorite band that I've never heard of? One Day As A Lion - singer from Rage, lol. 4. What's your favorite sport that isn't hockey? Football 5. If you were a GM, what kind of strategy would you go for? Anything that would make the way you would run a team unique? I like to rebuild - like scorch the earth and build from the ground up. 6. All of you are (or at least have been, at some point) free agents. What advice would you give to someone who enters the league after the draft and has to sign with someone? Don't stress - enjoy the process.
