Well Oskars Harumpf first season, albeit a partial one, has come to an end. Him and the Saskatoon Wild got bumped from the playoffs in the 2nd round in 7 games vs Ottawa. It was a hard fought battle and at times it looked like Saskatoon would emerge victorious, but it was not meant to be. Oskars is happy with his teams performance and everyone left it all out on the ice. He was also happy with his personal performance as he put up 10 points in 14 games, after putting up just 16 in 46 during the regular season. Harumpf really took his game to the next level when it mattered most and that bodes well for his futre. He now looks to the VHL Draft and VHLM dispersal draft where he will more than likely find 2 new homes. Harumpf would love to stay with the Wild in the VHLM, but it sounds like they may not get a chance at him in the draft unless they trade up. Never say never, so for now Harumpf wil hold out some hope although he sees the writing on the wall. He cannot say enough great things about the Saskatoon Wild organization. He enjoyed his time there tremendously and will always consider himself a Saskatoon Wild player. -Thanks

Jarome Iginla and Oskars Harumpf embrace afer scoring the opening goal in game 7, linemate Ashton Galbraith looks on. The trio put up 8 points in a game 7 victory!

Wow, what a series between the Saskatoon Wild and the Brampton Blades! It ook 7 games, but eventually we found a winner as the Saskatoon Wild won the final 2 games of the series, including game 7 on the road to send the Blades packing. This series started off looking like the Wild were going to run away with it, they got out to a 2 game lead, winning both games on the road. However, Brampton won the next 2 in Saskatoon's barn to tie the series at 2-2. Then Brampton won game 5 in Saskatoon to put the Wild on the brink of elimination.

Game 6 was gut check time for Saskatoon as they faced elimination on home ice. They best players stepped up as deadline aquisition Kez Kincaid had 3 points along with linemate Rami Jakobsen and goalie Gunnar Skovsgard posted a shutout. These team leaders really stepped up when it mattered most and deserve a lot of credit for their great performances. Saskatoon won the game 3-0 and were looking good heading into game 7.

On to game 7 in Brampton to decide our series winner. Little Oskars Harumpf opened the scoring just 56 seconds in on the powerplay from Iginla and Galbraith. That line has been dynamite in the series and were just getting started in this game. The Blades would tie it up though a few minutes later, but Saskatoon took a 2-1 lead to end period. The Harumpf-Iginla-Galbraith line would strike again in the 2nd period to put Saskatoon up 3-1. Brampton would make it 3-2 going into the 3rd. Then Harumpf and Galbraith set up Joshua Rubin for his 1st goal of the playoffs to make it 4-2 and that's how this one would end. 8 points combined for he Harumpf-Iginla-Galbraith line and Saskatoon is moving on to the conference finals!

Saskatoon winning the last 2 games of the series in exciting fashion means they'll have a lot of confidence headed into the next round. Everyone is playing well and this team has a great chance to win it all. Should be another great series against Ottawa. The Lynx have a lot of good players and the teams know each other well, having played countless times in the regular season. Some would say Ottawa has more superstars, but Saskatoon has a few stars of their own. With Saskatoon coming off an exciting series win and Ottawa not having played a game in a week, Saskatoon should have the momentum in game 1. An opening game victory on the road woud put them in great position to win this series and move on to the championship. One thing at the time though. Saskatoon will enjoy this series win tonight, then get back to work tomorrow. They know they can beat anyone if they play as a team and trust each other. They also know they are never out of a series. Anything can happen in the playoffs!

Harumpf reacted to Mike in Season 40 Entry Draft Rankings...The Numbers (S37/S38/S39/S40)
Let me apologize in advance since this was originally going to be the initial mock draft for Season 40.  I then remembered in the past I had been comparing draft classes at the trade deadline as well as projecting their final totals come draft day.  Now we have enough data to go back and see Season 37 thru to Season 40.  This will give us proof behind a doubt if the Season 40 Draft Class is not only one of the best classes in recent memory but potentially of all time.

Before we get into the specifics we did have nearly twenty draftees show up to practice again.  That number is likely higher as some reporting lags behind and we don’t see the results on their official player roster page till weeks later.  Also quickly the initial mock draft will be held next week most likely as part one being the first round with a second round mock part two the week after.  Warning there will be numbers in this edition of the draft rankings.

How Good Is the Season 40 Draft Class?

This Draft Class if indescribably amazing that’s how good it is.  Currently the draft sits at around 3250 practice hours.  There is several weeks left to improve before the season ends and then the post-season begins.  Many of these players will see a tremendous gain in pre-draft activities (achievement tracker).  That is where my conservative estimate of 3800 practice hours by draft day comes from.  If we see improvements like we have in the past with over thirty players putting in work the sky is the limit.  In that case we could even see more than 4000 practice hours but our estimates take into account 15-18 players and not 25-30 for the remaining of the season.

The Season 18 Draft Class is often one that is looked back on as one of the if not the best draft of all time.  To help put into perspective how great this draft is we’ve already seen a gain of 15% in terms of practice hours.  Again we still have weeks to go and this draft looks to be about 35-40% more talented in terms of talent and sheer number of draftees compared to the Season 18 Draft.  That draft got us well known players such as Daisuke Kanou, Anton Brekker, Oliver Scarlett, Tarik Saeijs, and Aidan Shaw to name just a handful.

Many around the league who are part of the newer generation or are younger players might not know much about that Season.  To help put this into another perspective we can look to the past three drafts Season 37, Season 38, and Season 39 all of which were seen as good to great.  Remember that these drafts are a pale comparison to what Season 40 has to offer.  Season 37 brought in current VHL superstars Slaeter Fjorsstrom, Tom Slaughter, Logan Laich (lolz), Kimmo Salo, and Travis Boychuk to name a handful there.  Season 38 has given us the emergence of Vojczek Svoboda, Bruno Wolf, Don Draper, Dimothenis Vlasis, and Brock Waldron as just a taste of what was there.  Season 39 we are just seeing players like James Faraday, Koji Yamazaki, and Tyson Stokes emerge as the next generation of superstars.  All of these players and potential VHL Hall of Famers are going to be swallowed up by an endless wave of Season 40 talent.

    Harumpf Comes Alive!!!

Oskars Haurmpf celebrates his 4th goal of the season.

It's been a slow start for Harumpf so far in the VHLM. In 25 games he had just 4 points, but all of a sudden he has caught fire! In the last 2 games harumpf has 3 points! Nearly equalling his total from the first 25 games, he now has 7 points in 27 games. 3 of those have come on the powerplay, which is a testament to his offensive ability. Harumpf also had the first multi-point game of his career recently, when he put up 2 points, 1 goal, 1 assist against the Blades. The monumental game was really special for harumpf after working so hard since joining the league just a few weeks ago. It's a great feeling to see all that hard work come together and get results on the ice. So what can we attribute Harumpf's new found success to? There's a couple of things, but Skating and getting more ice time with quality players are probably the biggest 2 reasons.

Harumpf has been working exclusively on his skating over the last week in an effort to get himself involved in the play more. The feeling was that skating speed would allow him to create more offense when he has the puck by getting separation. Also an increase in speed will have him more involved defensively and he'll be able to get to more loose pucks and generate scoring chances for his teammates. So far so good as Harumpf's 3 points in the last 2 games are a direct result of his improved skating ability and overall speed. When you're a smaller player in terms of height, you need to be fast to gain an edge over your opponents. Harumpf seems to have realized that and is now one of the faster skaters on Saskatoon. His speed and playmaking ability should be a big help to the team down the stretch.

Harumpf has also benefited greatly from a move to the 2nd line center position. He's been paired with Hunter and Iginla. Both of these guys are great players. Iginla is a scorer and Hunter is a well rounded two way forward. Both are capable of generating offense and finishing on Harumpf's sweet set up passes. The line has been working hard in practice and improving every week, They are on the cusp of becoming a very effective line. As with all new lines, they will struggle to find consistency, but with roughly 15 games left in the season, they should be able to come together and get hot by the time playoffs roll around. The line is hungry and eager to put up points while helping Saskatoon try and win the division.

Oskars Harumpf is finally starting to get it. He's finally realized what he needs to do in order to be an effective player in the VHLM. With this knowledge coupled with quality linemates, he could really take off down the stretch for the Wild. This would go a long way in helping them take over the division lead and set the tone for the playoffs. Watch out for Oskars Harumpf and his new found confidence on the ice.
