  1. Welcome to the VHL, v2.1! We're happy to have you. You should have received a PM with some more detailed information, but to get started quickly you will want to head over to the "How to Create a Player" topic. That topic will offer you detailed information about how to use the VHL Portal to create your player and get you started. We also highly recommend joining the VHL Discord where there is a channel dedicated to helping new members with any questions that they may have about the league or improving their player. Once your player is made VHLM General Managers will be in touch with you about joining their teams. In the meantime, please feel free to ask any questions you have here or in your create-a-player thread. We're happy to have you in the community and we hope you stick around!
  2. I am really starting to sound like a broken record now aren't I? After initially indicating he would be staying on as Vancouver GM @Beaviss has indicated to the blue team that his level of interest in the role is not where it needs to be; therefore the league has yet another GM position opening up for next season. With this being so close to all the other applications we will be once again considering all applicants who applied for one of those jobs. If you applied for these and would rather not apply for the Vancouver position you can let us know below. Likewise if you did not apply for the Malmo / Calgary / Moscow openings, for whatever reason, but would like to to be considered for Vancouver please let us know by replying in this thread. If you applied for Malmo / Calgary / Moscow and want to be re-considered you don’t need to do anything, we have your application already. *Please do not reach out to the commish team outside of this thread directly, we will approach you.* **Please do not post to campaign for any of the applicants or any other member. We are aware of who members are and their general qualifications.** Thank you, @Commissioner

  10. You put your faith in Moscow by the look of things
  11. Everyone thinks it’s a huge deal until they get in there and realize it’s more so just taking suggestions that could work and fleshing them out. It’s really not that fancy. Important, yes, but not that fancy.
  12. Honestly with so many more good players than there used to be I expect we’re starting to get infinitely better merc teams than we ever used to have. Even the leftover players are better than those that would have historically made the other teams.
  13. I almost completely disappeared after day 2 so good to at least get a bronze in my final tournament. Big congrats to the Mercs on their second gold!
  14. Very unlikely but not unheard of, though lately the average is probably around 4. 11 without a multiplier mind you is absolute craziness

  16. How are they any more impartial or involved than the BOG? I guess that’s my big thing with any kind of “replace the BOG” logic is whether or not it actually fixes anything or if it’s just “I hate them because I’m supposed to I guess.” Change for the sake of it isn’t improvement, it’s just sideways movement. Now discussion on transparency or justification or whatever is different but just shifting it to a different group I don’t think fixes that.
  17. All of those things were set. The issues with the award committee were somewhat self inflicted but also somewhat necessary IMO if the intention is unbiased voting. For example, no GM’s were allowed to participate. This was to remove the old issue of GM’s voting for their own guys but GM’s also happen to be some of our most active members so we limited our pool of super active guys right off the bat. After that we had the 3 season limit which was intended to keep fresh people coming in so that discussion didn’t get stale and therefore stop happening. Problem with this is that every few seasons the criteria of what people deem important changes because everyone has a different opinion so there’s no consistency in how awards are judged, for example Beav almost winning the Boulet with like 80 hits because that season’s committee liked +/- or something. I could go on. The point is there are flaws no matter who is chosen, BOG are as trustworthy as anyone else to handle this and from my experience overseeing both the BOG discussions and voting go significantly smoother than the AC ones ever did.

  19. I don’t think any BOG member ever has or ever would vote for someone based on TPE (it’s not listed so they’d have to actually go out of their way to even find it) but I do get the overall argument.
  20. There are only so many BOG members and commishes don’t vote. I believe @tfong doesn’t either on principle of being in the same vein as blue team. So the amount of potential votes is already a bit limited and this season schedule wise the vote went a bit quicker than usual so it’s possible some people missed it. With that said a justification sentence or two for the votes without names attached could be a good middle ground. The vote gets justified without the name being dragged through the mid potentially. We would just have to make sure we don’t hit a point where people decide “that’s not good enough justification” and try to toss out votes which isn’t realistically fair.
  21. This is sorta my fear, more so than the argument that we’re trying to stifle transparency or hide our bias or whatever. Personally obviously I’ve got nothing to lose by releasing them because I don’t vote but the anonymity of the vote, in a way, allows people to vote how they feel is best without fear that someone could just come at them for it. It might be extreme but imagine a situation where a voter is deciding between two players, one controlled by an individual who avoids conflict and one controlled by an individual who prefers to argue and debate. They may vote for the latter purely to avoid the argument. With all of that said I agree with your previous point that in general there’s a lack of discussion sometimes which could be problematic. Depending on the ballot certain awards sometimes will hit a “forgone conclusion” stage where everyone just kinda agrees. In general I think we are seeing less of that lately but it does still happen on occasion, usually one one is pretty far and ahead of the others. Tonn for the Shaw this season is a good example. He led in basically everything category, is there much need for further discussion on that front?
  22. Maybe I'm just bitter because Shawn placing himself first and me last cost me that Kanou but a system that means the person with the most first place votes doesn't win the award seems flawed. The amount of 2's on Pepper's showcases exactly the issue with ranked choice: it favours second choice unless it's nearly unanimous on who's best and who's worst. Again though, it's very possible I'm just bitter that I lost the Kanou in the only time ranked choice was ever used. Might just be that the season it was done had an incredibly tight vote.
  23. "Back" is a bit of a stretch for something that was used for 1 award in 1 season and resulted in the person who got the most "first place" votes not winning the award because someone decided to rank them last. No, I'm not bitter, why do you ask? The funk is undeniably the hardest to make the ballot for. You have to judge good to great vs. bad to good; you have to find examples from the entire league over 2 seasons, and then you have to narrow all that down to a few people. I get why it's usually the one with the most controversy because when you're looking at only your own team or something it's easy to spot big jumps in quality but when looking at 16 teams it's much more difficult to choose who gets on that ballot. First gen love? If people deserve an award they get one; they are entirely based on stats. We don't look at the member involved at any point in the process so it's less abut ignoring first gens and more about them not having the same level of stats.
  24. To be fair I only won 1 that was privately voted on. The Szat and Brooks were automatic and the Slobo was public. It's not like I made some deal with the devil to get all the private awards; hell I actually argued against myself for the Campbell (I also don't vote as a commish in case anyone is curious). Not that I think the point you were trying to make was anything more than using Lahtinen as an example but just pointing it out.
