With only 11 wins this season, Istanbul’s Professional Hockey Club is Fed-Up

Many players of the VHLE squad have come out and publicly stated that the 11-37-6 record is “not who we are… unacceptable.”

ISTANBUL, TURKEY (10/03/22) – Amidst a historically bad season for the Istanbul Red Wolves hockey club of the Victory Hockey League Europe (VHLE), during a recent press conference after the 8-1 loss to the Oslo Storm, the team expressed their displeasure with the team’s success.

“Our team has done very little night in and night out to win,” Says the club head coach, “To be straight up with you…we suck, like really suck.” The coach had some choice words after his club only scored one goal against the Storm. “I mean damn it, we should’ve had that game,” He also stated.

The Red Wolves have faced many challenges with their team’s success this season–low amounts of players, lack of talent–they’ve seen everything. They have a lot of players in the prospect pipeline that will be able to compete with the team next season. It gives fans something to look forward to, as they focus on the draft.

Istanbul has six draft picks in this upcoming draft (S86), with two of them being first-round picks. One of those picks was acquired in a trade with the Geneva Rush giving their first-round pick to the Red Wolves in exchange for the Bratislava Watchmen’s first and second-round picks in the S86 draft. Geneva is amongst the bottom three in the standings–their record is 24-26-4, which makes their draft placement rather high.

The Wolves are in dire need of personnel for this upcoming season. Goaltender Lachlan Summers of the San Diego Marlins in the Victory Hockey League Minors (VHLM) is a great candidate for Istanbul to snag up with Geneva’s pick. The starter for the Marlins has an impressive stat line for this season, amassing a 25-21-6 record, 0.917 save percentage, and a 2.41 goals against average (GAA) between the pipes. Summers is looking like a great candidate for their starting role next year if they get drafted by the Wolves.

When asked about the team’s success as of late, the fans share the same emotions expressed by the coach. “We suck, we can’t score, we’re awful,” One fan says to our crew in downtown Istanbul after the game, “But we can get better…we just need to put more effort on the ice night in and night out. Our scorers need to do their job, our goalie needs to make more clutch saves, and our defense has to shut down plays earlier.”

The VHLE has only been a league for five seasons and played for four. The Wolves are on pace to only win roughly 15 games this season. That would make them one of the worst-performing teams in league history. You don’t ever want to be a part of that company. They have one thing to look forward to in the draft. Maybe then, these Wolves can fix their roster and try to compete for next season. They went far in the playoffs before, they can do it again.

Other teams that are contending for a high pick in the draft would be the Rome Gladiators and would be the Geneva Rush, but they gave their pick to Istanbul in the trade mentioned above. All we can hope for is a better season next year, and for this one to end with at least 10 extra wins. No more being fed up.

(Answer Questions for 2 Capped TPE!)

    1. Recent trades have made an immediate success.  What are our chances of advancing deep into the playoffs now?

I believe we have a great chance, but we have to keep our mind on finishing out the season. Keep it on the present and the future will come accordingly.

    2.  Have you ever suffered a concussion playing sports?

Never personally, but I know some who have.

    3.  Jeremy Swayman has faced almost 1400 shots so far this season and he’s still standing.  How resilient is he and how much of an impact is he having on Mexico City’s success?

He, in some games, is standing on his head for the team, which for me is unacceptable. We as a team need to provide more aid for him in most cases.

    4.  Have you welcomed our new players, The Mediocre One and Ross Glagau?  Do you think they miss their old team and they are happy with the trade?

Haha, yeah I stopped them in the locker room and gave them a welcome message. They seem like very nice people.

    5.  If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

Definitely the ability to fly. Saves on those pesky plane tickets.

    6.  What is your favorite cookie?

Either a homemade chocolate chip, apple cider molasses, or a nice ginger snap cookie in the winter with a hot apple cider.

    1.  Have you pre-ordered NHL 23?  If not, do you plan on getting it when it comes out?

No, and no. That game looks like every other NHL game released since 21 haha.

    2.  How many different video games did you play last week?

Around 4, been grinding Destiny 2 for hours recently.

    3.  Sticking with the video game theme, what is your all time favorite video game?

Minecraft, it's kinda getting old, but it's such a stress reliever for me.

    4.  If your player was sponsored, what would it be and why?

Monster energy. I love the stuff, and I always drink it before games. It's a great beverage.

    5.  Which teammate do you consider to have the best player graphic?

Me, myself, and I. Nobody beats the Marimoto OG graphics that were made back in S74.

    6.  Have you ever eaten a kronut?

    Yes; Best. Donut. Ever.

  4. REVIEW TIME WITH BOBO!!

here's the review: overall, not a bad piece at all. lots of interesting sections and tidbits of information scattered throughout the article. some glaring punctuation and grammatical errors, mainly with quotes. I like the context piece above in italics, however it could be shortened a bit–concentrate the info more. short review, but it was a pretty great read nonetheless. good job.

    SCORE: 9.3/10, GOOD JOB :)

  5. A Light in the Dark of Mexico City’s Rough Start

Darius Marimoto II’s blazing hot start has fans in Mexico City excited for what’s next.

MEXICO CITY, 9:49 PM EST, 09/09/2022 – In the height of a successful draft for the Mexico City Kings, the team has lost three with one overtime loss out of five games they’ve played this season–with a goal differential of -3. With the team as a whole performing below average so far, a newly-drafted player straight from Japan is getting the stands packed again.

Darius Marimoto II, right wing, is tearing up the Victory Hockey League Minor league (VHLM) currently, with an impressive stat line: four goals, four assists, and eight points. He was awarded first star honors in the season opener for the Kings against their inter conference rival, the San Diego Marlins. He got two of his four goals in that game.

Marmoto II reigns from Japan, where his father, Darius Marimoto, was born and raised also. He moved overseas at 18 to pursue new opportunities in North America, and eventually found his way to the VHLM draft stage.

“I’m very excited for what’s to come for our team,” A Kings fan said to our crew this afternoon. “It’s a very exciting time to be a Kings fan! Mexico City hockey has never looked this bright and promising in ages.” The statement came after a big win against the Saskatoon Wild

It’s a very good time to be a Mexico City fan right now. Many of the fans are hopeful of an eventual season turnaround for their team, with their firepower growing in power every practice and match. Only time will tell what happens to the Kings, and Darius in particular.

  7. The Return of the Mac (Darius Marimoto)

    And yes, I'm back ;)

Before I get started in telling the tale of one Darius Marimoto the 2nd, yes, I am back. For good this time, I promise. It’s been busy for good ol’ Bobo, and I needed some time away from the ‘V to focus on my life. But I’m back, and ready to dominate!

Now, y’all probably know the first Darius Marimoto at least somewhat well. Reapers legend, Chicago legend, VHL’s greatest right winger for like a season? Yeah, him. Well, he had some children, others of which weren’t as successful as his own DM the II. This kid played with confidence at all levels of competition. From Japan to the wonders of North America, the Marimoto hype train finally began to gain some steam again. Full send down the tracks of professional hockey. He was recruited by many collegiate-level programs from the NCAA and ACHA associations. He was a hot commodity for many households, and hockey fans around the country knew his name. The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor offered him what sounded like a great package; NIL deals and a top roster spot! He eventually declined, after hearing about the endless possibilities of a different league: the VHL!

His eyes sparkled and widened at the thought of suiting up for any club of this league, as his dad did once before many seasons ago. He was thrilled, yes, but also a bit scared. He was only 18, and had just gotten accustomed to the American way of living. He was ambitious, hungry, and determined however to hit the ice and give his all for any franchise that batted him an eye. Like his dad, he loves competition, and loved it while playing U18 in Japan before moving to the US. The feeling of thrill and adrenaline rushes through him while he plays, making him one of the most explosive players of his generation. They called him the rocketman in his league, and led the league in goals and points. “He’s light as a feather on the skates, and a workhorse on and off the ice. He’s an exemplary student in his classes, and a true leader in his community. A great next coming in the Marimoto family,” says the Japan Times in a recently published headline on the greatness of DMII. Truly one of a kind.

Now with him becoming another legend in the Darius pipeline, many VHLM teams have their sights set on the new Japanese phenom. The star-bound sharpshot landed a gig in Mexico City, and is playing on the second line. He has something to prove to an organization now, and the future is surely bright. Get hype.

Huge opportunity everyone! There are a total of 6 GMs in all 3 leagues I would say are the best to learn how STHS work. This is one of them. If you want to become a GM who wants to build incredible teams this is the place.

i second this! i loved my agm positions, even tho i’m not a gm now 🥲

  9. Don't Snooze on Alfred Champagne This Draft,

    and here’s why:

Every draft in the VHL, there seems to be a sleeper. Whether that’s a player with a lesser known user, lack of experience and playing time, or low activity. There’s always that player that deserves more attention, and right winger (RW) Alfred Champagne is that guy.

You see, Champagne is going into the draft with more humble stats than others amongst his TPE number. He is ranked number two for the right wingers this draft, and while in the minors his numbers aren’t anything to play around about. His 20 goals and 63 points aren’t bad at all. Even before his drafting in the VHL minors, he shined on a waiver deal with the San Diego Marlins, but his performance with the Philadelphia Reapers made him stand out amongst wingers. He’s expected to go late first round into early second round. Anthique, the user behind Champagne, is fairly active on the forums, constantly earning well and steadily becoming an active user in the community. He’s a very well rounded player, with extra emphasis on the scoring and defensive awareness of his game. His puck handling and playmaking ability is nothing to look over as well, he reminds me of an early Joe Thornton before he went to San José.

Now, with all of that said, you might be wondering something: “How could someone so praised and highly thought of you be a sleeper?” Great question, random reader, let me explain. He’s never played a minute in the VHL Europe league–the step before the VHL for many of the other players in this draft. Now there is obvious reasoning behind this move, as his TPE is a bit too low for qualification in the ‘E, but it does affect his draft stock quite drastically. Even with these deteriorating factors, I feel like he’s still a great pick up for any team, and will make a great impact with a bit more conditioning in the farm leagues or even overseas. Give him the time he needs, and he will blossom for your franchise. I’m expecting the LA Stars or the Moscow Menace to call his name on the big stage (Pick 14 or 15). If he falls below those teams, the London United, Prague Phantoms, or the New York ‘Mericans in the early second round and late first round would definitely get a great player then. However, with the needs of top tier young talent in London, I would see him getting the call from the United this draft. This is all speculation though.

His impact will be immediate, when he does enter the league. Expect a 40+ point season out of him, and at least 20 goals from him too. Very balanced numbers on a second line wing spot. Higher than average shot counter, and a big presence on the ice. Champagne is a winger who instantly caught my eye upon my review of this year’s draft class, and for all of the good reasons. He’s a Cinderella story in the making, and a definite sleeper in this year’s entry draft. Catch me in the stands with a Champagne jersey cheering on the next talent of the United hopefully. They need the talent of him, and with the other players developing, they could be in contention of hoisting the cup in a few years. But only time will tell.
