S94 Rome Gladiators Captains
jacobcarson877 replied to Baby Boomer's topic in VHLE Team Announcements
What a group, and what a pleasure this season is going to be! -
Jesse Teno has been kicked from the Honourary Assistant Captain position, and has been relegated to the Goaltending Coach position. Captain: Leonard Triller @Triller Assistant: Wann Kerr @VattghernCZ Assistant: Sjin @Sjin Couldn't be happier getting to lead this group to hopefully another successful run!

European Union is the Best Union

From what I understand they use the last Playoff index, so to-be VHLE players are still at 200, to-be VHL players are still at 400 -
Been a while since I had to do a task here and just completely blanked. I wrote about 6-7k words across my sim leagues last week to prepare for a slight drawback in activity, and now I have to write 150 words and my mind is empty. Jillian has been super busy, playing mediocre in the World Juniors, winning the Junior Showcase Tournament for the second time, getting smoked in the Pro-Am tournament as expected and earning like 60 TPE in these past 2 league weeks. Nice to know that when it does come time to spend TPE again I’ll at least have this much TPE to drop. Hoping to get that number to roughly 200 by the time the next season rolls around but there is lots of season left to go! Excited to get underway with Rome, last time I played in the VHLE my franchise got folded so hoping for better things for Rome and their future!

The JST currently contains everyone who hasn't been VHL drafted and has not played in the VHLE yet. Which is 95% of the VHLM anyways. Adding in players that have played in the VHLE would have added 1 player, who was a recreate. Changing the cap doesn't do anything since we don't do updates during the tournament so everyone would be at or below 200 anyways. There's no real clean way to add more first-gens if no more first-gens exist. But hey if JST GMs decide to prioritize playing their first-gens over recreates I know I would love that! Same for the VHLM GMs to be honest!
-
I agree, but we need the recreates to fill out the lineups or else we just don't have the tournament half of the seasons and those low recruitment seasons become even lower retention seasons.

Hi team! Been a while since I did one of these but it's moving season and our lovely AGM is in the middle of it. That'll be me next week! Here's a double to get you this week's if you need it, and next week's if you're eager! Feel free to mix and match as needed but don't do the same questions twice in a row! 1. The league is short on defenders this season, how do you plan to take advantage of that personally? 2. Index comes out in a few days, what are your thoughts on our roster at this very moment? 3. What is your player trying to do better this season as opposed to last season? 4. Who is going to be the most important player for our success this season? 5. If you could play with one player from another team this season, who would you want it to be? 6. The new version of the portal is out! What are your initial thoughts? 1. You're put on duty to answer the media for our preseason press conference! What is your relationship with the media like? 2. When talking to the media are you one to stick to the script (pucks in deep!), or are you a bit of a wild spirit? 3. What's some advice that you could give to the new players about dealing with the London media? 4. A press conference turns sour and the media starts blaming a teammate, what is your response? 5. Some people are calling for the firing of the head coach, or perhaps even the General Manager after a 2nd straight Game 7 Finals loss, what's your stance? 6. Rumour has it a large portion of the players are retiring together at the end of the season, how do you inspire the fans to stick with the team for the upcoming rebuild?

The VHL Draft is over, and now it’s time to look forward at my VHL career. While the VHLE will be taking up some of that time, a lot of my time this season will be spent trying to plan how I can be the greatest offensive defender the league will see in this era. I’d say that they’ve ever seen, but eras are so distinctly different, and not many stand unanimously as the best of their era, let alone all time. The starting destination is set, assuming no spontaneous moves. Jillian will be making her way East once more to Moscow. Moscow has been home to some of the greatest VHL defenders of the last 20 seasons. And home to some of the best forwards and goaltenders as well. A lot of that can be attributed to Spartan and the environment he creates, the inspiration he gives, and it all comes back to the success he has. Moscow has been a powerhouse 95% of the time that I’ve been in the league, and the other 5% they were rebuilding with such deadly prospects and ambitious moves that I knew they would be back to powerhouse status in no time. The new powerhouse will be driven by me, Jillian Woods. The goaltender is obviously the most important position on any hockey team, being a game of inches, the fraction of a percentage of shots you let in less than your opponents becomes your saving grace, pun intended. But once you have the puck out of your net, what happens next? Breakouts and Zone Entries. That’s where I come in. I will retrieve the puck from whatever poor soul goes against me, I’ll move it to the best place on the ice, or I’ll take it for a skate myself. The blueline and it’s defenders don’t worry me. I sneak around them with ease, and I find my mark. We’ve got huge forwards out front, cannons from the wings and point, and big bodies in front. My pucks will find their way to the back of the net, that I’m not worried about. The real goal though is to win those 4 pesky games in the Continental Cup Finals. Something that Moscow hasn’t been able to do, in a handful of attempts in recent memory. They’ve had the team to do it a dozen times. But they didn’t have Jillian Woods, and now they do.

Europe it is! Continuing my trek eastward from San Diego, to Ottawa, and now to Rome, with Moscow on the way, I will soon be circumnavigating the globe by simply playing hockey. Rome has been a wonderful city for me so far, with the warm, wet offseason air inspiring new life, and new heights in my training and my development as a soon-to-be premier VHL defender. Rome has a ton of great talent with many players that should be on their way to great VHL careers. I’m currently the top defender, but with Thorvaldsson, Joel and Stanton all making their way to the VHLE Cap, we should be a great group towards the end of the season. The forward group is huge, with almost 4 whole lines ready to roll, and many above 300TPA already. Several more should be joining them as we’ll be looking to crush teams with superior depth, as well as some great starpower that already exists. We’ve got an established goaltender to get us started in Gunnleifsson, but Eagles will be rocketing up the charts this season, and should be the consensus starter for the playoffs. Feels like anything less than a finals run with this team would be a disappointment. I’m building my offensive game this season, coming off an already impressive offensive run last season in the VHLM, but this time the output will be intentional. If I’m going to be a great VHL offensive defender, I’ll have to really find the line between the two ends of the ice, and make sure that I’m pushing the game forward, all while maintaining neutrality in the defensive end, at minimum. That’s a balance I’ll seek to find here this season, as there’s no more room this season for adjustment. The vehicle is ready to race, and now I just wait for the starting gun to fire. It should be a bloodbath this season, something us Gladiators are prepared to handle. There’s a ton of talent in Europe this season, and we’ll be sure to be on our toes, and with weapons drawn, ready to prove that we’ll be the last ones standing this time. Move over Cologne, move over Oslo, a new champion is in town, and I’m sure that if Simon allows, Rome will be the one to stand victorious this season. Oh and the pizza really is that good people, you really need to try it when you’re in town!

I know my dream for the JST is that it becomes the landing spot for new players, they can ask their questions and such, get like waiver scouted by GMs, hang out with their class, get VHLM specific pings, maybe even a draft class role and then the tournament at the end of each season. Obviously Alex, N0H and I as a base for mentoring, the VHLM GMs should be around, and maybe some other volunteers, I know some people who have offered before when I've thought about the idea. Goes along nicely with a spot on the forum for newcomer tools, and then the JST Sims. Also really like the WJC/WC combination idea I've seen in other leagues where you foster a bit more of a pipeline, cheering on the team in the World Cup as you compete in the Juniors, build a bit more of a permanent connection to your long-term teammates, consistent, or at least season-long known GMs, recruiting players to their countries, international transfers, there's lots of wonderful things to steal, and maybe can help hype up the increasingly dreary offseason tournaments. I know that's been a discussion in the background, so just some more things to think about. I know you've been a real advocate for the rookie mentor/draft class landing spot idea over the last few years, and I've flip-flopped a few times mostly because I don't know what recruitment does, and I don't know where the gaps are between the VHLM GMs and Recruitment, but I'm currently on board!

JST revamp??

All I know is I've been burned way more by not pushing for the conditional trade than actually having the conditional trade

Well, I bought an Uncapped TPE Package, so that means you get a bit more content out of me for the next couple weeks! Been a busy week in Jacob land, and equally if not more busy in Jillian land. Working on getting ready to move, and Jillian is flying back to Rome to join the team for Training Camp. Rome picked up a pretty sweet haul at the draft this evening, lots of big names, and I’m very excited for this season. The VHLE really feels like an All-Star Game, but for the whole season, barring the bottom 2 teams in bad draft seasons. I actually really enjoyed my last run in the VHLE, and joining another really stacked draft class brings a lot of that same excitement. Best on best all season, and hopefully Woods can secure the title this time! Going into the VHL Draft I figured I would go top 3 and with Moscow somehow ending up with 1 and 2, I figured that would be my destination. And I’ll be honest I’m thrilled. There’s a couple of teams in the league that I’d be happy to give my whole career barring a complete and utter failure. I talked to a couple of those teams this offseason, but obviously most teams rightfully assumed I wouldn’t be available. I want to chase some personal success this career, and seeing the offensive defenders that have dominated in the Moscow system brings me a lot of excitement about what I can accomplish, and the other players in the system are more than enough to make me want to see this thing through even without a great personal career. I’ll wrap it there, and see y’all next week!
