Moscow Menace Press Conference
jacobcarson877 replied to FacebookFighter's topic in Team Press Conferences
1. I always love any extra chance to grab more TPE, so I am always disappointed when the offseason ends, but I'm also really excited to do the thing I'm earning TPE for! 2. I think the defense needs to be good enough by committee, but I think @leandrofg will be the difference between our forward group winning us games or not, no pressure buddy! 3. My advice to myself is to remember the long game and the short game. Getting attributes now helps, but I need to remember to give myself some easy treats down the line as well. My advice to Maverick is to score some damn goals! 4. This offseason was all about making sure my foundation was ready to be a VHL defender. Skating, Puck Handling, and most importantly Defense. I may lag a bit at first offensively, but I needed to make sure if I was giving up something, it was offense, not defense. 5. I've always had the idea of trying to get college/university clubs or writing groups into it. That demographic tends to be our strongest for leadership and commitment, and it's something we're sorely lacking right now. If we could help them fund their club, or contribute to their snack budget, it would be awesome to be a platform where we can cross over the love for sports and writing. Or we should put some money into someone making a hockey TTRPG, since a huge chunk of the active userbase participates in that hobby as well. A well timed anime, although not necessarily a recruitment effort by us, would probably give us a bump as well. 6. I've definitely done that with some songs I'm not proud of to study for exams. Too many TikTok songs that now make me want to vomit thinking of them. There are a few songs that have been my go-tos on my short jaunts around town which makes up most of my listening these days. 8am in Charlotte by Drake (not a Drake fan) is one of them, the Conductor beat just plays in my head all day. Sexy to Someone by Clairo and Take a Bite by beabadoobee are probably my favourite songs of the year so far. -

Joined: 2019 Positions Held: VHLM Commish, VHLE Commish, VHL Commish, VHL GM, VHLM GM, WJC Commish, VHLM Fantasy Zone, Updater, BOG + 1 Hall of Fame Player (Battre Sandstrom) @Acydburn came to us on one fateful day called April 30th, 2019. He arrived from a post in r/canucks, back in our Reddit recruitment hayday. He started with his first player Acyd Burn, and became an earning machine while learning from @Thranduil in Halifax. In his 9th week in the league, he took over from @Esso2264 as the Ottawa Lynx GM. And just days later, he also picked up the VHLM Fantasy Zone position from @Josh. That season Acydburn would also win the Founder’s Cup as a GM in his debut after taking them to a 61 win regular season. He would go on to win a Jack Reilly Trophy in S71 to cap off his VHLM GM career. That offseason he would pick up a 3rd role, this time as WJC Commissioner alongside @Banackock and @rjfryman. Then he would tack on a 4th with taking on the role of Updater starting in May of 2020, a role he still picks away at to this day! 4+ years of making sure we’re all getting our TPE, and counting! Acyd Burn would go on to attain just shy of 1400TPE, and retired peacefully in S73, winning 2 Continental Cups with the S68 and 69 (nice) Seattle Bears. He would hold the VHLM Fantasy Zone and WJC Commissioner jobs until late 2020, right around when he would join diamond_ace as Sonnet’s replacement in the VHLM Commissioner role. A year and a half in, Acydburn had held more roles across all facets of the site than most ever would. Acyd would begin his career working as a spreadsheet master tracking GM offers and inactives, and helped clean up rosters during an overwhelming recruitment boom from the COVID-19 Lockdowns. He also pushed the decision to move on from inactive players entirely, and brought bots to the VHLM. He also accounted for the potential of further expansion, and worked to enable a flexible framework for the Juniors system to be enabled should rosters reach a certain threshold. This turned out to be something of a prophecy as by mid-2021, a new league was added, the VHLE, and Acydburn joined @Victor as the first commissioners of the Europe branch. Acydburn would go on to hire old WJC Commissioner buddy rjfryman to fill the spot left by Victor, and would spend most of his time writing punishments for GMs not following the backup rules. He did get VHLE players 2TPE in Practice Facility, and I’ll always be thankful for that. His final act as VHLE Commissioner would be to hire @Enorama, who ironically built a similar reputation in the league as a spreadsheet wizard, which they both used to push very important changes. Acydburn would also come back to us as a GM, taking over from his once VHLM Commissioner partner diamond_ace as Prague’s 2nd GM. He would win 2 David Knight trophies in his first few seasons, and win a Commissioners Cup as a GM just before stepping down. He would also finish his 2nd career, this time with Battre Sandstrom, who would go on to be inducted into the Hall of Fame himself, picking up quite a few individual awards, and would play under his own watch, before waiving his own NTC to go to Riga to finish out his outstanding career. With @bigAL moving on from VHL Commissioner, Acydburn was quickly scooped up by the Blues, and @thadthrasher took over in the VHLE. The Meta Era esarure was in full swing, and the Blues had just unveiled the new system that would save STHS from our min-maxing dreams. It was certainly a tumultuous time for the league, with lots of veteran leadership parting ways with the league, a whole pile of COVID recruits, a new attribute system, and a new Blue on the loose. Acydburn has never been the face of the VHL Commissioner group, that has usually been filled by @Beketov, but Acyd has been a part of many huge initiatives behind the scenes. Some of these include revamping regression under the new Hybrid System and fixing wonky salary brackets. Acydburn and I don’t have much history, despite working together as VHL GMs for a good section of both of our tenures, only completing one trade, which I suppose I won as a technicality, as of the picks we exchanged, I managed to pick the only player that would go on to play VHL games, one of my very few draftees who ever would. We have shared a few fun moments together though, Acydburn was the one who hired me for both my BOG and VHL GM positions, and hilariously in almost identical conversations. I broke the news to him that he had picked a player that would put him over the salary cap, forcing the Jacob Stone (@scoop)and Moritz Stauffer (@GoodLeftUndone) swap that altered the course of Prague and Malmo for many seasons to come. We circled around a few more trades and a Fantasy League, but never really made anything stick. I did write Battre Sandstrom’s HOF article, which I believe was one of my first, and one that I’m really proud of. I’m glad to be taking on Acyd’s 2nd one as well. I feel like the keeper of his legacy at this point. We got to experience a lot of wonderful moments here with Acydburn, and while it wasn’t always a smooth ride, Acyd has been something of a stable force here, always bringing us back down from emotionality and into the objective. Despite the horrors we’ve all seen since 2019, we’ve experienced great leadership from a great guy. With his 3rd player, Matt Murdock, retired, we await what new ventures Acyd will take on next. For now he is a trusty Blue, and while we don’t see as much of him as we may have in the first couple years, we know that he continues to bring great things to our league every day. No crime is left unpunished, and things continue to be safe and stable. I hope to see another player someday soon, and hopefully many more, but for now, we sit back and appreciate what has already been done. Welcome to the Builder Hall of Fame, after me sitting on writing this for the last season!

Yeah I definitely lost a lot of Landon Wolanin those last couple seasons as I was taking over London, and then recreating it gave me just another excuse to not pay attention to my player and just think London, since she was just playing in the M and E, what did that matter? I knew my GMing time was up anyways, but I had always hoped that I could better balance the 2 in my head, and I'm glad you're finding it!

Last minute addition to the week, about to hit 700TPE, got a couple of HOF articles to do in the next little bit, excited to do acydburn and aimee justice, and I’m very excited to see how they move forward from here. I’m also excited to get some games going as it feels like forever since I was a part of some big games. As much as it’s nice to get a World Juniors nod, it’s tough to not feel apathetic towards something I can’t build up in. But this VHL season I’ll be putting my all into being as ready as I can be for my first playoff run. It’ll be nice to be working my way up the TPE leaderboard again, enjoying the wins of overtaking each person one by one. The competition is great, but we’ve got to be better! I’ll be chasing Hard Markinson down for points, and it all starts from game 1!

Welcome everyone to Season 95! --- Another season is about to get started, and a new VHLM Draft Class has begun! Excited to see what waivers come in this season, and I hope we can get more players built up and ready to take on the VHL! --- I want to start off by congratulating all of the draftees, now that all of the drafts are done, it’s the most crucial time for player retention! If you haven’t heard from any of your GMs yet, leave a comment in this thread and we’ll get you set up! Hopefully you’ve all made your way into your new locker rooms, and are excited to take on this new season! --- I also want to take a moment, like I will for the foreseeable future, to recognize some important milestones that our members are hitting! 100TPE Although I believe they started this week at 100TPE, I wanted to congratulate @Rick132 on crossing the 100TPE mark! Rick joined about a month and a half after me, all the way back in 2020, and is working on getting to their first VHL game sometime soon! Had a great start in Houston, and hope to see them build on that success in Mexico, and get ready to play for Bratislava soon! 200TPE We have a nice collection of players crossing the 200TPE mark, some of which may end up playing in the VHLE this season, but most will make up the stars of the VHLM! It’s time for them to pack on the TPE so they can get a headstart on the VHLE for next season! We start with Onyekachukwu Chidieber Oluwaseun, who is @TenIQ ‘s 3rd player and the first to cross not only 100TPE, but also 200TPE! They’ve written some excellent Media Spots recently, and should be on the map for a permanent management position sometime soon! Next comes Jacob Longstreet, someone who really impressed me in our time together poking around the Marlins locker room. So much so that I was thrilled to draft them to London. And while I never got to GM them there, they just had a prolific season in the VHLM, and are steadily working their way to being a nice piece in the VHL. They’ll be off to Cologne shortly, and can’t wait to see what @Dynamicmlb_42 can do! Onto Jerry Box, two-time Founder’s Cup champion! Barry’s first player was in the first draft I ran, and I remember them kicking some major butt in Halifax. This time it’s even more major butt in Saskatoon! Sam makes sure to draft them again a couple years later, and is hoping to get a nice player to add to Helsinki! But first it’s Vasteras, and we’ll see what @barryst can bring this season! Our first true first-gen on the list today we have LaClapbomb Hitstick IV, who I assumed would have had at least 3 previous players, but I was mistaken! Houston has really enjoyed having such a presence on their blueline, and will be sad to see them move towards DC via Vasteras, quite the trek! They’re very eloquent in their Press Conferences, so their team will at least get a monster on defense and a media darling! Congrats @Greasy Gary on the accomplishment! Not to be mistaken with our previous entry, we have Clapbomb Bardownski III who follows incredible backup goaltender Evan Bihler in @Eb14 ‘s agency! A very solid opening career not unlike my own first career, and I’m happy to see their progression has gone well with the conversion to a skater! Another player who had a monster season last time around, it will be exciting to see whether they can follow that up, while building up some TPE to get themselves to DC! Helsinki snaps up another player on this list in Bret Weier, who I have had the pleasure of having on the Rush in the JST this offseason, and who seems like they could be a real long-term presence in the league. One of our few podcasters in the league, @Quanack has followed a unique progression path, which is something I admire in a player! Nice to see them back from their first stint beginning in 2019! 400TPE Our only entry on this list this week is Dan jr, who is back after a great career with Daniel Clarke, primarily in Riga. @Danzo has filled a niche that the league is sorely lacking in, which is consistent lower TPE earners. They earn consistently, build well, and Riga will be glad to have such a reliable player back in the fold. Welcome back to the big leagues and excited to see what you can do this time! --- I want to introduce something else new that I want to try to do every week. I know sometimes it can be a hard thing for newer members to do, so I sat down recently and came up with 100 things that you could write about, do a graphic about, or I suppose if you got really into it, do a Podcast about! Thanks to everyone who read this far along, and feel free to share your creations here in this thread, and I’ll come check them out! There should be a media sharing channel in each of your team locker rooms as well, and I’m sure your teammates would love to check out your work! So for this week, the topic is: What is the coolest food your player has tried on their travels? What city has the best food that they’ve been to, and have they ever tried to recreate that experience? For Jillian Woods, nothing beats Rome. I know it’s a basic answer, but when you spend a whole season, there, it really just becomes obvious that the Italians do food the best. If you haven’t tried real, homemade pasta, with real Italian tomatoes and herbs, some Italian wine and cheese, and some Italian cured meats, you really haven’t tried food. So what’s your answer? I’d love to read about it, see it, or even hear about it this week! Happy forum content creation!
