  1. One or two more Media Spots left before the new player debuts! Still leaning Defender here, but the goalie itch is really strong right now. Couple of weaker goalie classes in a row, and it’s definitely got me thinking of a real attempt at the position instead of whatever we can call my first-gen player (best backup ever!). We’ll see what some of the other lean towards, I’ll likely create later in the week to take advantage of the most up to date intelligence. One of my goals with this player is to take care of myself more. I’ve always been a very loyal person, and I’d normally sign a life-long contract with whichever team would offer it first. But I think I need to take advantage of better opportunities if I’m going to be investing this much time and effort into my next player again. Landon Wolanin was very much a Hall of Pretty Decent player, partially because of the sheer level of talent he played alongside, and the lack of personal award recognition. I want to be a leader, I want to be the name, and I want to get the first opportunity to get the best chances available. I want to join a team ready to build around me, and I want to work with players that I can form synergies with and amplify. This might mean jumping ship in Free Agency. It might mean getting traded. It might very well mean staying on the same team my whole career. Who knows, but I want to make sure that I get the chance to use my additional TPE and sim knowledge to give myself the best chance to have a personally successful career. Do I have any regrets with Landon Wolanin? Not really. Ricer and Calgary were amazing to me and surrounded me with the talent (or surrounded the talent with me) to maximize success. We won our Cup, should’ve won more, and got a boatload of recognition from the league for our efforts. Maybe I wouldn’t have signed that last extension, but I know that the pick they got in return for me helped move the franchise that treated me so well forward. Helsinki was also very kind to me, despite London kicking our ass for most of my Ten(o)ure. Sam did the best she could with the resources she had, and I think the team looks much better in a future without me. Lots coming up the pipeline and a lot of smart asset management. Just too early for me! I’ve already decided I’ll be landing in San Diego, and if I have the option to skip the M draft, I will decline. I have no intention of rushing the process, and I will play only 8 seasons in the VHL. I have no interest in player at a lesser TPA for the length of my career just to get a second rookie season. Building a legendary player will take tact, and I intend to make every decision with patience and research.

  10. I love having to outwork everyone else for the chance to be better! That's like, most of the fun for me on the sim/hockey side. And even more I love seeing the work of my peers and being inspired by them! So keep posting forum content ( @frescoelmo ) everyone!
  11. Pretty sure I had my first draft pick make the VHL this season, and I have drafted what feels like a million players. Even if I wasn't "rebuilding" my strategy has always been to build a pipeline through the draft, and so I totally get where you're seeing a lack of flow into the VHL. Hopefully some of these new players stick around and bolster the ranks, because I know you aren't the only team that could use a good influx of quality players these days!

  16. Some of you may be wondering what Landon Wolanin is up to these days. I’m sure many of you are not. However it is my job, as his personal reporter to report on such things on a regular interval. I don’t think anyone remembers that I’m doing this, and my contract never had an end. Money keeps entering my bank account, and Landon Wolanin keeps doing stuff, so why don’t we talk about it? He has spent a lot of his time since retiring not touching hockey at all. He busted out his PC, booted it up, and spent several days perfecting a mod list for Skyrim. It brings him back to an era of old, where things were easier, and there were less things to do. It’s crazy how a now-old game can feel so new and refreshing and yet so comfortable at the same time. Perhaps one day Landon will feel that way about hockey. For now however, hockey is the last thing he wants to think about. Feeling his very purpose and destiny ripped out of his hands by the cruel nature of time progressing, is something that he will have to learn to bear for many decades. It isn’t as if he isn’t capable of all the things that hockey requires. He can sure as hell skate, shoot and handle the puck. In fact he’s world class at all of those things. But even at world class, he isn’t quite at the level the VHL requires. It’s a sad reality seeing the things that were once so easy slip away from you. He will have some opportunities to engage in his passion in the future. There is always the Pro-Am, and if he so chooses, one last run at a World Cup gold. But for now, those are out of mind. He must find something other than Skyrim to do, and with so much of the world to explore, surely there must be something else that makes him feel the way hockey once did. Some thoughts resonate in his head about scouting, or perhaps GMing one day. Working his way back up from the bottom in the VHLM, and earning his place amongst the legends in the VHL. His reputation might help him get in the door, but the excitement of earning every advantage and outworking his opponents once more is enticing. But that comes in a new season! For now it is about resting, relaxing, and nursing some of those long lingering wounds. Maybe one day this week he’ll tune into a Helsinki or Calgary game. Baby steps here, just so that he doesn’t dive too far into hockey too soon and ruin the good thing he has going here. It will be nice to be a casual fan again, like he was as a kid. See the lasting legacy his old teammates make, and watch some of the new generation break all of the molds the oldies left for them. That’s what Landon is thinking about!
