  3. Game Recap: 481, Vancouver Wolves vs Chicago Phoenix The Vancouver Metawolves once again put their offensive prowess on display with this dismemberment of the birds of fire from the Windy City. Jerome Reinhart had two in the first and 3 in total, Corey Kitson picked up 4 points, and Thadius Sales ran away with 40 saves and a .930 save percentage. On the other side, Chicago's bot goalie for some reason only got 19 shots, but only saved 14 of them, then I realized that he got pulled but didn't want to restart the sentence. Sunrise van de Schubbekuteveen (which I didn't have to look at to know how to spell) had 3 points and 13 shots for the other side, and was the only Phoenix to have an impact on the game. To be honest, I don't know how Chicago scored 3 goals, and I hope Vancouver loses in the playoffs before Riga has to play em. Thank you and good night. 175 words
  4. As former Hobey Baker winner Cobalt Burns progresses with his VHLM career as a member of the Las Vegas Aces, we decided to take a look at his game from a scouting standpoint, and assess the strengths and weaknesses of how he plays. Strengths Burns has always been renowned for his powerful and explosive skating. As a kid, he loved running, and was a track and cross country star in his early school days. As a result, he's had legs like tree trunks since he was fifteen, and is super hard to knock off the puck. His flat out speed isn't necessarily impressive, although he can always keep up. He is able to take a few steps to the inside and then explode around the outside of a defender on a rush, often cradling the puck behind the net before making a play. His puck handling is also something that you don't see every day. It's one of the aspects of his game that he has ironed out in the last few years. As a minor hockey player, he was known as a 'speedster with hands of stone'. Luckily, he developed soft hands as he became a superstar at Cornell. His shot, however, has been an important part of his game. In a hockey family, the youngest child always has access to all the resources the older children discovered on their journey, so Coby was brought up taking shots every day in his basement with his older siblings Callum and Cailey. His wrist shot is NHL caliber, and he became comfortable taking one timers on the power play as he earned more ice time with the Big Red. His hockey sense might just be his calling card, though. The Burns family have always been Montreal Canadiens fans, so Cobalt has had the likes of Alexei Kovalev and more recently Nick Suzuki to look up to. His passing has never been in doubt, and his skating and deception allows him to create space for himself and his teammates, with which he consistently uses to beat defenders and make plays. Giving Burns any space within 10 feet of the net is often a fatal mistake, as his wrist shot and royal road passing are both quite polished. Weaknesses While undoubtedly a smart player, Burns is known to have a bit of a temper. He is usually calm and collected, but if he is provoked, usually by a dirty hit on a teammate or his goalie, he can stop thinking clearly and deliver a punishment to the opposing player. Some coaches have praised him for his aggressiveness, but his coach at Cornell berated him each time he lashed out and it has gotten better. Even though Coby has put on some serious weight in the last few years, at 185 pounds, he isn't a physically dominant player. His puck protection is strong, but he sometimes fails to finish his check and is regularly subject to crushing hits. He makes it his goal to never get muscled off the puck, and he achieves this by getting super low to the ice. The thing that bothers him the most is that unlike Brendan Gallagher, one of his hockey heroes, he struggles mightily while screening in front of the net, and buckles easily to the cross checks and slashes in front of the crease. As previously mentioned, Burns is a great skater when you take into account speed and explosiveness. But one thing that has hindered his movement in tight space is his transition skating. Unlike his brother, Callum, who is a defenceman, Coby focused on his shooting and puck handling with free time on the ice, instead of transition skating. He is a little rough when moving laterally, and smooth isn't exactly a way to describe his pivoting. Nevertheless, he has been working tirelessly with skating coaches at improving this aspect of his game and becoming a more complete player. 655 words
  5. I'd be down for some writing
  6. Sweet! I'll send a contract right over
  7. 1. I don't know man, he seems like kind of a nutcase....... 2. Houston is leaving a trail of bodies behind them, it'd be hard to imagine them not grabbing it 3. Considering my TPE, it's acceptable. I've got to earn my way to the top (which I plan on doing very soon) 4. VHLM is broken, ban trading picks, should be a developmental league, bananas are vegetables that grow on trees 5. Come on, it has to be McDavid, right? 6. Since when does carrying 3 crowbars not seem suspicious? I always just carry as many as I can hold in my hands, if you question it you get bonked
  8. Cobalt Burns Junior Review Cobalt 'Coby' Burns was never a superstar. He was born into a hockey family in Downtown Toronto, and was the youngest of 3 children. Callum Burns, now playing for Laurentian University's hockey team, was drafted into the OHL and played 4 season for the Sarnia Sting before deciding to call it quits on his pro hockey dream. Cailey Burns was one of the best female hockey players in minor hockey before receiving a scholarship to Cornell University, where she stars with the Big Red. Coby started off much slower than either of his siblings, playing for the AA Mississauga North Stars until his U16 year, where he made the team as the 10th forward for the Toronto Red Wings, a prestigious GTHL organization. Alas, when the OHL draft came, he was passed on by every team, and remained with the Red Wings for his U17 season. Despite being widely neglected for his less than average height, his exceptional two-way play and powerful skating drew the attention of the St Michael's Buzzers, a Junior A team based out of Toronto. He made the team out of camp and spent the rest of his 17 year old season quietly picking up points and earning his way up the depth charts. In his NHL draft year, Coby thought he was for sure on at least some teams' draft lists, as the Buzzers were finalists for the OJHL championship and he had put up 22 goals and 55 points in 45 games. He watched painfully as he was passed on in a draft once again, and his training camp play reflected his energy. He was nearly cut from the team, when the coach spoke to him in the Buzzers dressing room after the last camp skate. 'Listen, Burns. You've got good character, and you're not a bad hockey player, either. But I can't keep you on this team if you keep fuckin around and feelin sorry for yerself. You've got till tonight to decide.' That talk lit a fire under Coby. He returned to the Buzzers with a vengeance, and led them to the CJHL championship, with 34 goals and 78 points in 42 games in the regular season and 12 goals along with 20 points in 12 playoff games. His height peaked at 5'11, but he hit the gym hard, gaining 25 pounds to settle at 175 at the end of the season. He received scholarship offers from a few good hockey schools, but decided to follow his sister Cailey to Cornell. His first season with the Big Red, he put up 7 goals and 21 points in 40 games. By the time his sophomore season had begun, he was twenty years old, 5'11 and 185 pounds. That season, he really found his groove. He scored 24 goals and notched 38 assists for 62 points in 36 games, and helped Cornell reach the NCAA finals before being knocked out by Minnesota-Duluth. He won the Hobey Baker award for NCAA MVP, and turned his sights towards pro. The NHL still wouldn't give him a second look, so he announced his waiver eligibility for the VHLM and signed a contract with the Las Vegas Aces, a short 24 hours ago. While he is currently relegated to the bottom six, he looks to make a solid impression on his counterparts as he prepares for the upcoming playoffs and VHLM dispersal draft. 565 words

  21. 1. I think we can catch London, Moscow is a great regular season team, so I like our position 2. Sandstrom has been an absolute monster on the back end, carrying Linus's raggedy ass and Cheese as a rookie right into one of the best D cores of the league 3. The Johansson to Chicago trade was nice, things are finally looking kind of up in the Windy City 4. I have my Miami AGM nurx on the team, which is awesome. I'd love to continue feeding prospects up through Miami, as an inside informer. 5. I like a little bit of both, pools aren't bad but you can't beat beach football 6. There's this gondola ride at Blue Mountain here in Ontario, I've been a few times and it's an incredible view
  22. As the day Zetterstrom retires and my next player is born looms ever closer, I'm thinking more and more about how to start over. I don't want to make a meta build, but I also don't want to sacrifice my player's career trying to avoid it. Should I skip the M after my waiver season, or stay and possibly take ice time away from first gens. These are the questions going through my head right now. Earlier today, I had tests in Spanish, Science, and Math, which means for the past few days I've been studying my ass off and have given the VHL less consideration than normal, which changes tonight. Until Monday, I'll be pre-writing my Junior Review and Prospect Scouting Report, and doing a little bit of planning for my next career. I'm super psyched about my next player, and I believe with some help S84 will be one of the greatest draft classes ever, with tons of awesome members also recreating. I still firmly believe S75 was one of the best draft classes ever, and with a bunch of carryover in the best earning members, it should be fun to see how stacked the draft will be. 200 words, on the dot.
