  12. Raymond Bernard - Class of S78 Position: Goalie Birthplace: USA Height: 6’2 Weight: 190 lbs Drafted: 11th overall (Moscow Menace) Username: @Mr_Hatter Career Awards S67 - Founder’s Cup S67 - Prime Minister’s Cup S70, S74 - Victory Cup S70 - Continental Cup S70 - Diasuke Kanou Trophy (Playoff MVP) S72, S74 - Aidan Shaw Trophy (Top Goalie) S72 - Scotty Campbell Trophy (MVP) S74 - Greg Clegane Trophy (Lowest GAA) Every successful team needs a rock solid goaltender to bail them out when necessary and be their backbone during the grueling battle that is the Continental Cup playoffs. For the Moscow Menace, that man was Raymond Bernard, who would maintain his stellar play throughout a lengthy and star-studded career. While the Menace only won it all in S70, where Bernard picked up the Diasuke Kanou award for playoff MVP, they were always in the conversation due to the incredible play of their netminder. He represented his country, the United States of America, at both the World Cup and the World Juniors, and only missed the playoffs twice in his VHL career. He maintained a save percentage above .900 and a goals against average (GAA) of less than 3 for every season except his initial campaign. He was known for his steely gaze and unwavering focus, as well as his ability never to be quite out of position. While some players will fade in and out of stardom, Bernard had a strong grasp on the starter job during his 3rd season and never let go until his retirement, maintaining a high level of play for the duration of his career. Despite being a 3rd ballot HoFer, from the moment he retired it was widely known that one of the greatest goalies of his era was destined for ultimate glory. S67 - Ottawa Lynx (VHLM) Record: 41-7-0 / Save %: 0.892 / GAA: 2.16 / SO: 5 In the S67 VHLM dispersal draft, Bernard was selected with the 40th overall pick(!) in the fourth round. He immediately established himself as one of the hottest rookies in the league on one of the hottest teams in the league. The Lynx had a mind-blowing regular season, putting up 61 wins and only 9 regulation losses en route to the Prime Minister’s Cup. Bernard battled teammate Samuel Ross for starts but earned the starter’s role by the time the postseason came along. The Lynx carried their momentum into the Founder’s Cup playoffs, only losing 3 games en route to 13th VHLM championship. Bernard, who was also trying to impress VHL scouts for his upcoming VHL entry draft, shone, going 9-1-0, putting up a .913 save percentage and a 1.75 GAA and picking up a shutout along the way. S68 - Moscow Menace (VHL) Record: 16-8-1 / Save %: 0.896 / GAA: 3.10 / SO: 0 Despite his best efforts in the previous season, Bernard was drafted late in the first round by the Moscow Menace, 11th overall to be exact, which made a few GMs look silly a few seasons later for passing him on. However, in the short-term, development took priority. Bernard made the Menace in his freshman season, but due to his inexperience had to take a backseat to starting goaltender Owen May, at least for now. The Menace, despite boasting the likes of Podrick Cast, Jet Jaguar, and Vladimir Pavlov, among others, they missed the playoffs by 8 points. Unfortunately, they forfeited their first round pick, which ended up as 3rd overall, in exchange for Cast and Randoms the previous season. They did pick up future 6-season Menace veteran Oskar Lagesson in the second round, with then Moscow GM Victor Alfredsson flexing his drafting prowess once again. S69 - Moscow Menace (VHL) Record: 22-16-7 / Save %: 0.903 / 2.81 / SO: 1 The Menace entered S69 with a fresh attitude and brightened roster. Jaguar and Randoms were leading the team’s offense, and Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen was the star defenceman they needed on the blueline. At the start of the season, May was dealt to the Prague Phantoms, giving Bernard the opportunity to seize the starter position. In his time as the #1, he did very well for a rather inexperienced sophomore, maintaining a record above .500 and fielding decent statistics. Nonetheless, in spite of Bernard’s performance, the Menace acquired proven starter Finn Davison from HC Davos Dynamo, effectively pushing Bernard back down to backup. Funny enough, once Davison arrived in Russia, he fared noticeably worse than Bernard, perhaps matchups played a role but the Menace were a solid team. Either way, the Menace landed 3rd place in the Euro conference and a first round series against the Helsinki Titans. Naturally, Davison started all the games, so Bernard was left gaining playoff experience from the bench. The Menace dispatched the Titans in 6 games, but fell to the Riga Reign in 5 games the next round. S70 - Moscow Menace (VHL) Record: 45-14-5 / Save %: 0.915 / GAA: 2.41 / SO: 6 S70 was the season that everything started working out for Bernard. Early in the season, Davison was dealt to Riga, and Bernard now had a firm grip on the starting goalie role. With Jaguar, Randoms, Werbenjagermanjensen, and Mat Tocco all finishing in the top 5 in scoring, the Menace were nothing short of a super team in S70, capturing both the Victory Cup and the Continental Cup. While Bernard didn’t lead any significant categories in the regular season, alas still recording a .915 SP and a 2.41 GAA, he used the postseason to catapult himself into the VHL record books. As the Menace, while only losing 3 games, punted the Phantoms, Reign, and Wranglers respectively out of the playoffs, Bernard was undoubtedly their most valuable player. With an incredible 1.84 GAA and a .937 SP, Bernard was impossibly good, only allowing 28 goals over the entire playoffs! He was recognized by the league with the Diasuke Kanou trophy for playoff MVP, which was clearly very well deserved. Unfortunately for Bernard and the Menace, this was the final Cup they would win to this day. At draft day, Alfredsson had a rare strikeout, with their first rounder going to Davos for Davison and their second rounder, Aleelee Kiak, only spending two uneventful seasons with the team. S71 - Moscow Menace (VHL) Record: 33-24-7 / Save %: 0.917 / GAA: 2.55 / SO: 3 S71 was the first of two sort of ‘off’ seasons for Moscow. While they still clinched first place in a weak European Conference, acquiree Henrik Zoiderberg was the only player to appear consistently on leaderboards. The retirement of Randoms left a big hole in the team, and Werbenjagermanjensen was on the back nine of his career. Bernard was still a rock in the crease, keeping the Menace in games they didn’t necessarily deserve to be in. He was without his prior backup, Chase, that season, after he was released following S70, putting even more pressure on Bernard to hold the Menace together. Despite their regular season woes, the Menace put together a pretty respectable playoff campaign, sweeping the Nighthawks in round one and beating the Reign in 6 games before losing to the Seattle Bears in the final. Bernard kept his pace, with a .925 SP and a 2.3 GAA, but the Menace’s core was aging and it was time for a refresh. S72 - Moscow Menace (VHL) Record: 30-27-8 / Save %: 0.924 / GAA: 2.47 / SO: 4 S72, with S74 being the only possible exception, was Bernard’s most dominant season in his career. With Jaguar, Tocco, and Werbenjagermanjensen all dealt away, the Menace were a shell of their former selves. Luckily for them, they had Raymond Bernard in his prime in between the pipes. There was simply no way this team should have made the postseason. Not a single player reached a point per game, and only 6 reached 50. All the weight was on Bernard’s shoulders, and he delivered. His record tells a different story than what actually went on that season; his other stats can help convey the true tale. He faced nearly 2100 shots, and fended away 1934 of them. With a weaker team both S71 and S70, he still managed to significantly improve his stats and continue making his bid for the Hall of Fame. After dragging the Menace into the playoffs, he backstopped them as they ousted the Titans in 6 games before being swept by the Reign in round two. Bernard’s monstrous efforts earned him both the Aidan Shaw trophy for best goaltender, but also the Scotty Campbell award for league MVP. S73 - Moscow Menace (VHL) Record: 34-21-9 / Save %: 0.927 / GAA: 2.56 / SO: 2 The S73 Menace were not quite as good as the cup-winning S70 roster, but they had noticeably improved from the season prior. Exciting first round pick rookies Lucas Brandt and Alex Letang gave Moscow some new hope, and Zoiderberg regained his scoring ability to crack 75 points once again. Pavlov and Lagesson were still solid blueliners and the team was once again heading to the playoffs. Bernard had obviously less of a truly remarkable season as S72, but his .927 SP and 2.56 GAA attest that he was still at the top of his game. This was his first season of depreciation, however, and he had a newfound motivation to win a few more championships before it came the time to retire. Unfortunately, those cup-chasing dreams were quashed by the Reign in the first round, sending a disappointed Menace team to the golf course. Bernard visibly struggled for seemingly the first time in his professional hockey career in that series, with a sub .900 save percentage and an abnormally high goals against average, while the squad in front of him didn’t fare much better. S74 - Moscow Menace (VHL) Record: 46-16-2 / Save %: 0.924 / GAA: 2.53 / SO: 5 S74 was a breath of fresh air for Bernard. While they once again fell in round one, the goaltender found his form again, putting up a career high in wins, and the Menace captured the Victory Cup for the second time in Bernard’s career. He also won the Greg Clegane trophy for lowest GAA, which is odd because it was the third best GAA he’d had in his time in the VHL. Nevertheless, it was the lowest, and he was recognized. The Menace went through a shakeup of stars, parting ways with Zoiderberg only to acquire Mikko Lahtinen, a fellow future Hall of Famer and the face of the Menace for seasons to come. He put up 123 points, and Pavlov also breached 100 in his final campaign. Letang also broke out with 79 points, and this edition of Moscow looked like they were gunning for the Continental Cup once again. That made it really stunning when they were toppled by the wild card Helsinki Titans in round one, in only 5 games as well. It was a heart-breaker for the burgeoning team, and perhaps Bernard’s final chance at a Cup thrown out the window. S75 - Moscow Menace (VHL) Record: 33-25-6 / Save %: 0.921 / GAA: 2.7 / SO: 5 This was it, Bernard’s last stand in the VHL. The Menace, led by Lahtinen, Letang, and star trade acquisition Roque Davis, were a few players short of a full roster, but nevertheless managed to secure a playoff spot. Bernard was rock solid as usual, with the typical .920+ SP and >3 GAA. 5 shutouts as a fully depreciated goalie is nothing to sneeze at either. The Menace dispatched the Titans in a nail-biter of a game 7 (6-5 Menace), before going down at the hands of the Malmo Nighthawks in 6 games. Even though it hadn’t ended in a Cup as he had hoped, it was still a satisfactory way for Raymond Bernard to finish his illustrious career as a loyal member of the Moscow Menace and among the top goalies of all time. Congrats on a great career and well-deserved induction, Hatter!
  13. 1. It's been great, the Reapers are a good team and I'm proud that we've stayed with them thus far, win or lose. 2. Hard not to say Wolanin, he's been a great pickup and has piled up the points. PJ Daniels is also bringing the heat, love to see it 3. Lead the VHLM in goals and points. It's lofty, but with good linemates and the right circumstances, I like my chances 4. Easier navigation would for sure be something I'd like to see, maybe a quick video of what every aspect of the forum and portal is and does 5. With, for sure. I'd imagine lots of users would like their fake online hockey player to be 6'5 220 with a huge beard 6. I'm a fan of American Ninja Warrior, and there are gyms all over that now boast warped walls. I'm not very tall, generously 5'6, but I got up the 12 foot (I think) wall and everyone was shocked
  14. Claim 4/4 Oh no I have to do a new PT next week
  15. I DIDN'T GET FOURTH FOR THE FIRST TIME LET'S GOOOO still got beat by a DQ'ed team, still can't win
  16. 1. It has no doubt happened before where a lower seed team takes down a higher seed. I say bring it on 2. Hard not to say Pete Mitchell, has led the team in a lot of important categories. 3. Some nice looking recreates, hopefully we can earn enough TPE to make a difference 4. Ehhhhh, doesn't exactly roll off the tongue 5. I've eaten some questionable things over the years 6. I'm gonna miss u bro. Also, I'm glad the Metawolves will be shot down
