  1. Swiss Central Gazzette (goalscorer/assistant) While Marcel is still travelling at the other end of the world to locate potential expansion candidates, Daniel is fully committed to the World Cup. Since we last reported, six round robin and one QF match were played by him. We will address them in a compressed format as follows: vs Team World The final score was 4-3 for Europe. World went ahead 2-0, but Europe's le Massif (Tavau, McJake) pulled one back before the first intermission. The second period was a 1-1 draw with Tessier (Jr, Deatwalker) finding the back of the net for Team Europe. The final period was won (and thus the game) by Europe with two unaswered goals by the Rock Johnson (Thunder, Tavau) and Deathwalker (Tessier, Jr). van Giersbergen was stellar with their .935 saving rate. As much as the power play was inexistant (0/4), the penalty kill was impeccable (5/5). The three stars of the match were Idaho (2g/1a), Deathwalker (1g/1a) and Tsujimoto (1g/2a). Daniel logged 0g, 0a, +0 and 30:41 minutes on ice (most of his team) vs Mercenaries This match went with 5-2 to the Soldiers of Fortune. The Mercs scored five consecutive goals, before Jr (Tavau, le Massif) scored shorthanded with less than eight minutes left to play. This was too little, too late and McJake's (the Rock Johnson, Tavau) goal at 18:51 minutes just softened the blow a bit. van Giersbergen had on of their weaker days with only .868 saving rate. And both special teams did under perform with 4/7 (penalty kill, despite the SHG) and 0/2 (power play). The three stars were Sova (2g/0), Dude (1g/1a) and Fizzlebeef Jr. (1g/2a). Daniel noted 0g, 0a, -2 and 29:01 TOI (second of the team) vs Canada The Maple Leafs are becoming something of Daniel's bane of existence as he seems not to be able to win against them (yet). This match was lost 6-4 and the Canadian decided the game in the second period where they scored three consecutive goals and a forth one halfway through the third. The Europeans put up a fight though and Hadrian (Jr, Deathwalker), Hadrian (Janser), Tessier (Hadrian, Jr) and Jr (le Massif, van Giersbergen) succeeded for the Stars. Hadrian (2g/1a), Dood @bigAL (in one of his last Hurrahs (1g/1a)) and Pines (1g/1a) were awarded the three stars. van Giersbergen had an ok night, but not up to their usual standards (.854). While the power play was quite effective (1/2), the penalty kill certainly was not (1/3). Daniel had 0g, 1a, -1 and 27:50 minutes played to his name vs Canada This match ended 5-3 in favour of the homeland of icehockey. The Europeans scored all their goals in the first period and could not keep a hold on their one goal lead. le Massif (the Rock Johnson, McJake), McJake (the Rock Johnson, Thunder) and Tessier (Tavau, Jr) with a shorthander. The three stars were Perry (2g/0a), Dood (2g/0a) and Bouchard (0g/1a). van Giersbergen (.894) was slightly better than Tot (.885) but had to face almost double the shots (47 vs 26). The special teams did reasonably well with 1/5 for the power play and 7/9 for the penalty kill (with one shorthanded goal scored). Daniel achieved 0g, 0a, -1 and 29:17 TOI vs Team USA The Yankees crushed the Stars in a 8-3 steam roll win. The goals for the Europeans were scored by Tessier (Deathwalker, Jr), McJake (the Rock Johnson, Thunder) and Deathwalker (Tessier, Jr). van Giersbergen was weaker (.833) than Sales (.893) but again had to face almost double the attempts (48 vs 28) than their opposite number. Campbell (1g/3a), Lose (1g/3a) and Greene Giant (2g/0a) were named the three stars of the game. The special teams performed not so well with the penalty kill being 7/10 and power play 0/6. Daniel was recorded with 0g, 0a, -2 and 28:04 minutes played vs Team World The United Nations claimed this match with a close 4-3 win. Jr (Tessier, Deathwalker), the Rock Johnson (le Massif, Tavau) and Thunder (the Rock Johnson, McJake) bagged for Team Europe. van Giersbergen (.892) and Dimmadome (.893) performed neck and neck. Reinhart (1g/1a), Idaho (1g/1a) and the Rock Johnson (1g/1a) were awarded the three stars of the night. The special teams were very good with the power play 1/2 and penalty kill 7/9 Daniel had 0g, 0a, +0 and 27:19 minutes time on the rink QF vs Mercenaries Just in time for the quarterfinals, the Europeans found a way back to winning games, much to the dismay of the Merc team who conceded the match 4-2. The first period went 2-0 to the Stars with Deathwalker (Thunder, Tavau) and McJake (Thunder, Deathwalker) finding the twine. The second and third period ended with a 1-1 draw each with McJake (Tavau) and Jr (Tessier, Hadrian) being successful respectively. The three stars wer McJake (2g/0a), Deathwalker (1g/1a) and Jr (1g/0g). van Giersbergen was back to their usual form (.939), while the special teams performed exceptionally well with the power play 2/5 and penalty kill 6/7. Daniel logged 0g, 0a, +1 and 27:43 TOI. Stay tuned for further updates. https://vhlforum.com/topic/111243-s80-team-western-europe-roster-announcement/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111160-analysis-of-vhlw-south-team-names-part-1-australia/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111276-a-tale-of-two-brothers-marching-on/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111364-phihfx-s81/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111376-a-tale-of-two-brothers-again-canada/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111428-a-tale-of-two-brothers-silver-won-or-gold-lost/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111426-analysis-of-vhlw-south-team-names-part-2-australia-continued/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111460-analysis-of-vhlw-south-team-name-melbourne/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111467-a-tale-of-two-brothers-world-cup/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111468-a-look-at-each-vhlm-team-heading-into-the-draft-pt1/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111541-vsn-presents-s81-vhl-mock-draft/
  2. Swiss Central Gazzette (goalscorer/assistant) While Marcel together with @Will3 is still scouting the length and width of Australia for potential expansion teams. Daniel is sweating as well but for different reasons. He just played four games with Team Western Europe during the Hockey World Cup. The first match was against the Mercs and ended 2-1 for Dan's team. The Europeans won the game when they scored two power play goals by Hadrian (Tessier, le Massif) and Tavau (Thunder, the Rock Johnson) within 40 seconds. Three minutes before the end the Mercenaries could pull one back but it was too little, too late and Western Europe reigned victorious. Both goalies showed a respectable performance with van Giersbergen (.960) being triumphant over Rasputin (.935). The three stars were van Giersbergen (24 saves), DaMoose (1g/0a) and the Rock Johnson (0g/1a). The European power play was immaculate (2/2) and the penalty kill respectable (4/5). Daniel logged 0g, 0a, +0 and 25:56 minutes played The second match was against Team USA with the final score of 7-2 for the Old Worlders. Within 6:11 minutes in the first period , the Europeans crushed every hope the US might have had to win this game, when they scored five unanswered goals (four in power play) by Jr (Hadrian, Tessier), Deathwalker (Tavau, Thunder), Tessier (Hadrian, Janser), Deathwalker (the Rock Johnson, McJake) and Deathwalker (Tessier). Especially Bob Tristan @N0HBDY did his team no favour in visiting the sin bin on five different occasions, two of which lead to goals against. We think that the third goal in particular was a textbook example of a power play goal. Dan rushes into the zone on the left wing with speed. He fakes a shot and 'his' defender hits the deck, the Swiss relays the puck to Hadrian, who one touches it to Tessier. Same has time and space to chose the corner he wants to bury it and goes for the far top corner. Team USA pulls one back before the intermission, but this was like pissing in a Californian Wildfire, as Jr scores an other power play goal 38 seconds into the second with the helping hands of Tessier and Hadrian. Again the Yankees reduce the lead to four goals before the second horn. However, le Massif (Hadrian, Jr) bags the last goal of the game with a one man advantage yet again. The three stars were Deathwalker with a natural hattrick, Jr (2g/1a) and Tessier (1g/3a). Again, van Giersbergen (.935) had Sales' number (.875). The power play was magnificent (6/11) and the penalty kill impeccable. It is fair to state, that the US' lack of discipline cost them the match. Daniel recorded 0g, 1a, +1 and 29:29 minutes on the ice. In the third encounter the Europeans faced off the Vikings in 3-1 defeat. Dan's team opened the score in the first at the 6:51 minute mark when McJake (Tavau, the Rock Johnson) found the back of the net. Alas, from there onwards it was an uphill battle and the Nordics scored three unanswered goals. van Giersbergen showed a respectable performance (.932) but was bested this time by Maronen (.963). The boxplay was good (5/6) but the power play was inexistent (0/3). Maronen (26 saves), Odinsson (1g/0a) and Dear (1g/0a) were named the three stars of the match. Daniel had 0g, 0a, -1 and 26:11 minutes TOI to his name The direct rematch against the Northern Europe team was much closer and went into shootout with a 3-2 final score and the bitter end for the Europeans. The latter scored first when McJake (le Massif, the Rock Johnson) beat Emeritus. Tessier than deflected Deathwalker's shot who was fed the puck via the boards behind the goal after a missed shot from Janser. The Nordics replied with two consecutive goals which brought the game to sudden death and since no team managed to score in overtime, the shoot out lottery began with the Europeans showing nerves and missing the first attempt and Emeritus saving the second. Both Nordic shooters were succesful and thus the game ended with a defeat for the Western European delegation. van Giersbergen (.950) was once more better than her opponent (this time Emeritus) (.933). The power play was inefficient (0/1) where as the team excelled in killing penalties once more (3/3). The three stars were Odinsson (1g/1a), Tightrap (1g/1a) and van Giersbergen (38 saves). Daniel was reported with 0g, 1a, +0 and 29:32 minutes played. With the results pretty equally spread, Team Western Europe sits on the throne time being, due to going into extra time (all teams lost two and won two, but only Europe lost in OT) Stay tuned for further World Cup games and the upcoming VHL draft. https://vhlforum.com/topic/110780-s80-fredrik-elmebeck-memorial-trophy-nominations/?do=findComment&comment=884099 https://vhlforum.com/topic/111038-a-tale-of-two-brothers-in-the-outer-circle/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111242-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-good-start/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111243-s80-team-western-europe-roster-announcement/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111160-analysis-of-vhlw-south-team-names-part-1-australia/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111276-a-tale-of-two-brothers-marching-on/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111364-phihfx-s81/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111376-a-tale-of-two-brothers-again-canada/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111428-a-tale-of-two-brothers-silver-won-or-gold-lost/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111426-analysis-of-vhlw-south-team-names-part-2-australia-continued/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111460-analysis-of-vhlw-south-team-name-melbourne/
  3. Thanks for your insight... of course in my comment I did not consider 'soft' skills in a GM's process of draftee evaluations and neither did I pay any attention to the positions where the team needs 'fresh' blood... i.e. if you were the only eligible/active Center and half the teams in the VHL are desperately looking for one, then your chances for a top draft number increases significantly, even if you are a wellfare and practice guy only... I exclusively considered raw TPE and the constant resupply of same in my comment (hard figures which I can interprete)... to be clear, I was not worried about my carreer (though it may have sounded like that), as I did not even expect my player to get as high in this weekly list as he did, so I am more than happy what I have achieved so far and have no reason to complain... I just wanted to give an input where I see potential for improvement (and I am aware that opinions differ) in regards to keep players invested... no offence meant and I think you guys do a tremendous job to keep users interested in the league and their hockey playing Alter Ego already... Cheers
  4. I apply. Cannot really give a reason why to pick over all the other wonderful people in here, other that I am eager to learn.
  5. You are still a subject to Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II., long may she live ... so that at least has not changed...
  6. Swiss Central Gazzette (goalscorer/assistant) The WJC has passed with a bittersweet ending for Team Europe; A silver medal. The semifinal against Team World went with a final score of 6-3 to the European squad. Daniel's team came out from the locker room on fire. 12 seconds were played, when Ablar opened the score, assisted by Pearce and Kotkakoivu. Ablar (Kotkakoivu) followed up with his second on the night at 5:41 minutes. Chara netted one with the help of Godlander for the 3-0 lead. However, Team World had two unanswered goals before the first intermission. Pearce (Kotkakoivo, Nano) contributed a goal as well in the second period which ended 1-1. The third period was all Europe's as Ablar (Kotkakoivu, Pearce) with his third goal of the night and Pearce (Ablar, Nano). The three stars were awarded to Ablar (3g/1a), Pearce (2g/2a) and Kotkakoivu (0g/4a). Linbergh (.947) had the better of Davis (.913). Europe's power play was sub par (1/7) while the penalty kill was okay (4/5). Daniel recorded 0g, 0a and +0. In the final, Canada won the first period 3-0 and it was not before the 25th minute when Karjalainen (Mulds, Chara) brought the old world on the scoreboard. However, before the period was over, Canada reinstated the three goal lead. At 4:24 minutes into the third Nano (Ablar, Kotkakoivu) gave the team a ray of hope, but the Canadians defended clever and nursed the two goal advantage home for the final score of 4-2. It was an epic battle between the netminders with both, Lindbergh (.934) and Parise (.951) showing stellar performances with the bitter end for the Swede. Europe's power play was inexistent (0/3) and the penalty kill was good (5/6). The three stars went to Man (1g/1a), Parise (39 saves) and Nano (1g/1a). Daniel was noted with 0g, 0a, +0 and 2 PIM (Hooking, no damage on the scoreboard) So much for Daniel's WJC adventure, but there is no rest for the wicked as he is flying to the Hockey World Cup as we write to represent Western Europe. Analysts give the European delegation not much credit as it is the by far least experienced squad. We are convinced that Daniel does not give a fig about their opinion and is hell bound to prove them wrong. Stay tuned for our future updates. https://vhlforum.com/topic/110829-s80-wjc-team-europe-roster/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/110919-a-tale-of-two-brothers-downtime-or-is-it/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/110780-s80-fredrik-elmebeck-memorial-trophy-nominations/?do=findComment&comment=884099 https://vhlforum.com/topic/111038-a-tale-of-two-brothers-in-the-outer-circle/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111242-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-good-start/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111243-s80-team-western-europe-roster-announcement/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111160-analysis-of-vhlw-south-team-names-part-1-australia/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111276-a-tale-of-two-brothers-marching-on/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111364-phihfx-s81/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111376-a-tale-of-two-brothers-again-canada/
  7. Kinda, I mean I get it that 2nd + generations do not want to go through the grind for the upteenth time again and that people with jobs need to be compensated in some way... I just wish they could apply (or rather earn) all these 'goodies' only after the draft of their 'generation' has taken place, as otherwise no-one outside of this 'elite' circle will ever snatch 1OA... I know I sound like a sore loser (and may be I am to a certain extent) but part of the reason of me posting this, is also some concern of retention of players... If you see as a rookie, that no amount of you writing/podcasting/graphic wizarding and jumping at any TPE opportunity will get you the first pick, they could 'rage quit' because of perceived unfair advantages.... Again, I am not saying that said advantages are unfair per se in my opinion, for me it is more the timing which seems less than optimal (again only my opinion)... for example Nico Pearce and my player were created the same week (ending August 29) and I have no chance catching him in regards of TPE, and I have only been a slouch at the beginning, until I figured out how to earn TPE. Since I found out/was taught by other members, I pretty much maxed every week, and yet he is more than 120 TPE ahead of me...
  8. Swiss Central Gazzette (goalscorer/assistant) The WJC is in its final push to evaluate the winner and Marcel despite rumours to the contrary, has been traded. Team Europe has lost its final game in the group stage against Canada with 5-4. The Maple Leafs started strong and scored three consecutive goals before Europe went on the score board. It was Ablar (Eightnine, Kotkakoivu) who reduced Canada's lead to two goals. In the second period Ablar (Nano, Eightnine) scored the only goal at the 10:44 minutes mark in power play. In the third period each team bagged a brace each. For Europe, Eightnine (Kotkakoivu, Nano) with his first goal of the tournament and Chara, (Karjalainen, Remy) were successful. Parise (.932) was clearly better than Lindbergh (.894). Europe's power play was okay with 1/4, but the penalty kill was not up to the usual standard (4/6). The three stars went to Hogan (2g/2a), Eightnine (1g/2a) and Calamari (1g/3a). Daniel reported 0g, 0a and +0 With that out of the way, we will address Marcel's move to Halifax for the next season. He and a S81 7th round pick goes to Nova Scotia and Philly receives S81 5th, a S82 5th and a S82 2nd (or as Steve Dangle would call it 'magic beans') in exchange. It appears that @Alex_J32 is going for a considerable rebuild as he gathered 19 picks for this and the next draft combined, with a total of three first rounders, three second rounders and three third rounders. We assume that in 1-2 seasons the Reapers will be a force to be reckoned with. Marcel in the interim will have an other swing at the Founder's cup while he strenghtens the 21st's blue line. Please stay tuned and dwelve in the below related articles in the meantime. https://vhlforum.com/topic/110590-a-tale-of-two-brothers-after-the-season-is-before-the-season/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/110829-s80-wjc-team-europe-roster/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/110919-a-tale-of-two-brothers-downtime-or-is-it/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/110780-s80-fredrik-elmebeck-memorial-trophy-nominations/?do=findComment&comment=884099 https://vhlforum.com/topic/111038-a-tale-of-two-brothers-in-the-outer-circle/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111242-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-good-start/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111243-s80-team-western-europe-roster-announcement/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111160-analysis-of-vhlw-south-team-names-part-1-australia/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111276-a-tale-of-two-brothers-marching-on/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/111364-phihfx-s81/
  9. top 1st Generation player in S81 draft... not too shabby if I may say so myself...
  10. very informative, and it is interesting how the trade loops back to LVA on the Philly side with AlexTheGreat (acquired with the assets from LVA in the original trade). I would be interested how Steve would depict that... and you chose a trade tree which is very much alive with some of the picks only maturing this or even the next draft (7 open ends on Reapers' side alone)
  11. [t̪ˠəiɡ] , means 'poet' or 'storyteller'... was once such a common name that the English used 'Teague' (the anglicized version of the name) as a synonym for 'Irish' much as today 'Paddy' and 'Mick' are used. Even the Irish used it as a term for 'Joe Average' calling someone 'Tadgh from the market'...
  12. So were the Lightning (and some)...
  13. Swiss Central Gazzette (goalscorer/assistant) Since last we reported from the Janser brothers a lot of news trundled in. Apparently Marcel @Morcar80 is on an overseas reconnaisance mission together with @Will3 to evaluate potential candidates for an expansion of the league into the Australian continent. From the hockeyside of things we learned from well informed sources that @Alex_J32 received trade offers for the younger Janser, but rejected them as he considers Marcel and Jp @WhiskyJack as the staples in the Reapers' defence for the next season. Daniel has been informed that he is nominated for the World Cup, representing Team Western Europe, a great honour for the young Swiss. And of course hockey was played as well in the WJC, where the Trans European express was slowed down a tad by Canada and surprisingly in the match against Team World. This was also the first match up, which went 5-3 to World. They started strong and took a 2-0 lead in the first period, followed by an other goal at the beginning of the second. However, Europe countered with two consecutive goals scored by Decimus (Brozik, Remy) and Ablar (Kotkakoivu, Nano) before the intermission. However, only 8 seconds into the last period, Team World reinstated the two goal lead. Europe managed to pull one back, when Kotkakoivu (Nano, Eightnine) scored. With time running out, Leblanc @Horcrux pulled the goalkeeper. As it is often the case, this act of desperation was punished by an empty net goal for the final score 5-3. The three stars went to Blloyoiderson (1g/2a), Ixazaluoh (0g/3a) and Colors (1g/0). Lindbergh could not hold on to his stellar saving rate of the past three games and was outshone by Davis (.892 vs .933). The power play was sub par (0/2) and penalty kill was good (4/5). Daniel recorded 0g, 0a and +1 The second game was against Team Asia and ended 4-2. Eager to erase the blemish caused by their previous loss, Team Europe scored two unanswered goals in the first period. Both goals were scored by Karjalainen, the first one was assisted by Chara and Nano, the second one by Godlander and Mulds. Pearce (Eightnine, Nano) scored on the power play halfway into the second to make it 3-0. Team Asia pulled one back, before Kotkakoivu (Pearce) reinstated the three goal lead. Team Asia did not give up though and reduced the lead to two goals only. However, for the last period the Europeans shut the shop and defended cleverly, not allowing any further goals against. The three stars went to Karjalainen (2g/0a), Trenton (1g/1a) and Pearce (1g/1a). Lindbergh made an outstanding performance with .957 save rate against the equally talented Chiester (.918). Europe's penalty kill was top notch (7/8) while the power play was a bit lack luster (1/8). Daniel had 0g, 0a and +0 to his name The third encounter was against one of the favourites of this years WJC, Canada. The Maple Leafs were able to win this match 3-1. The Canadians installed a 2-0 lead before Europe went on the score board when Chara (Karjalainen, Lindbergh) scored his first goal of the tournament. Unfortunately, this was not enough to make the North American team break it in sweat, and they nursed their lead, and even increased it by one, until the final horn rang. The game was coined by the almost impeccable performances of both netminders Lindbergh (.944) and Protagonist (.968). The power play was inexistant (0/3) while the penalty kill was flawless (7/7). The three stars went to Kitson (1g/1a), Protagonist (30 saves) and Peace (1g/0a). Daniel was noted with 0g, 0a and +1 the forth match was against the USA and was won by Team Europe with 5-2. The US started strong and were first on the score board. However, Europe replied with five consecutive goals by Ablar (Kotkakoivu, Pearce), Remy (Godlander, Chara), Godlander (Chara, Remy), Karjalainen (Chara, Mulds) and Kotkakoivu (Nano) before the Yankees scored the final goal of the match to make it 5-2. Lindbergh (.920) was outperformed by Booberry (.932), however the latter was blasted with shots (74 in total) while the former had a comparably quiet evening (25 shots). Team Europe's power play had room for improvement (2/13), the penalty kill was once more impeccable (2/2). The three stars were awarded to Remy (1g/1a), Chara (0g/3a) and Karjalainen (1g/0a). Daniel achieved 0g, 0a and +0 Stay tuned for further updates on our two hockey exports. 14. Very well researched article and nicely filled in morsels of trivia which I always appreciate. I have my reservations to the 'Sydney Singers' as well, but I see where you are coming from (maybe 'Choir Boys' would be an alternative?). Morcar80 sure does get around a lot in his offseason... As others have already mentioned some pictures would have given the article a nice touch. 8/10
  15. 1. Shut down the opposing top lines, maybe get the occasional point and stem silver ware at the end of the tournemant. 2. Europe of course 3. Yes as I am nowhere near the TPE levels of my team mates 4. I think London would be cool to host it. 5. Daniel Janser served in the army before turning pro. 6. Team Europe, and I see Karjalainen making a big impact, he already did so in the VHLM and on the Junior Showcase Tournament.
  16. Wow, that is a well researched mock draft. You took not only into consideration raw TPE but also pre-existing affiliations with the franchises in question, weekly earnings and on what positions the teams have need for 'fresh blood' in the near future. It is also graphically appealing with the team logos and differently coloured titles. It has all the bells and whistles. The only point of criticism I have, is that you put me only at 11th pick. Just kidding. 10/10
  17. oh wow, never expected this. Thanks for the trust.
  18. Swiss Central Gazzette (goalscorer/assistant) As our esteemed readers already know, Daniel is representing Team Europe in the WJC, which is in full swing already. The team is off to a good start as it could win the first three matches against Team USA, Team Asia and Team World. The first match was against Team USA and Europe came out of the gate on fire and scored two power play goals within a little more than one minute (Nano (Ablar, Kotkakoivu) and Kotkakoivu (Ablar, Eightnine)). With seven seconds left in the first Remy (Mulds, Karjalainen) put the score to three nothing before the first horn. In the second period, Team USA pulled two goals back and kept the hope alive. Same was crushed by Godlander (Mulds, Karjalainen) as the Americans were not able to react anymore. The finals score was 4-2 for Team Europe. The three stars of the match went to Detroit (0g/2a), Mulds (0g/2a) and Remy (1g/0a). Lindbergh had .913 save percentage and was bested by Booberry (.939), who had to face almost triple the shots that came the Swede's way (66 vs 23). Europe's penalty kill was exceptional (4/4) and the power play respectable (2/9). Our Swiss delegate recorded 0g, 0a and -1 In the second game, this time against Team World, Daniel clashed with fellow Reapers Jones and Ixazaluoh. The match ended with 7-2 for Europe. Again, Daniel's team had the better start and lead 3-0 after the first period. Mulds (Remy), Ablar (Nano, Kotkakoivu) and Karjalainen (Mulds) scored for the European squad. World pulled scored a goal early in the second which was answered by two back-to-back goals by Remy (Godlander, Mulds) and Kotkakoivu (Ablar, Lindbergh). This MO was duplicated in the third period, when Pearce (Kotkakoivu, Nano) and Karjalainen (Remy) sealed the deal. This time, Lindbergh (.966) bested not one, but two goalies. Davis (.792, 24 shots against) and Jarvinen (.946, 37 shots against) shared the workload, while Lindbergh faced 59 shots all by his lonesome. It surprises probably no-one that all the place in the lime light were taken by the Europeans. Remy (1g/2a) was followed by Karjalainen (2g/0a) and Kotkakoivu (1g/2a)on the podium. The special teams performed more or less at the same level as in the previous match with 5/5 in the penalty kill and 1/5 in power play. Daniel recorded 0g, 0a, +0 and 2 PIM (Hooking, obviously no goal scored against in the ensuing penalty kill) The third game against Team Asia ended with 6-3 for Europe. Again it was Europe who was first on the scoreboard when Ablar (Kotkakoivu, Eightnine) opened the proceedings in power play. However, before the period ended, the Europeans allowed three unanswered goals. Other team's morale may have been broken after this first period, but not so Team Europe. We assume that Leblanc has had her say about the team's atypical defensive non-chalance. Accordingly, Team Europe was all business and no fun (for Team Asia that is) and came back with four consecutive goals. Ablar (Nano, Kotkakoivu), Kotkakoivu (Ablar, Nano), Remy (Mulds, Karjalainen) and Brozik (Remy, Chara) succeeded for the European outfit. Asia could not recover from this barrage and conceded another goal (Pearce (Eightnine)) in power play before the final horn. The three stars were Kotkakoivu (1g/2a), Ablar (2g/1a) and Remy (1g/1a). Lindbergh saved .909 of the shots fired at his net while Chiester saved a respecable .906 but was hosed down by the opposition (64 shots against). The penalty kill was okay (3/4) and power play was excellent (2/5). Daniel logged 0g, 0a and +0. Team Europe is presiding the WJC so far and there are a few numbers to explain why: 191 shot attempts in three matches (best of the tournament, leading by 42 shots) 2nd best power play (26.32%) only Canada is better best penalty kill (92.31%) most goals scored (17) least goals conceded (7) least shots allowed against (115) goal keeper with the best saving rate (.939) as well as lowest GAA (2.33) 6 out of the 10 best scorers are from Team Europe (with Kotkakoivu being the top dog with 3g/5a for 8pts) the best goalscorer (Kotkakoivu, Ablar and Remy with 3 goals each) This are but a few of the impressive statistics available for this amazing team. 19. Swiss Central Gazzette As our regular readers may recall, the Jansers are back in their native Switzerland for much needed R'n'R (no not Rock'n'Roll, the other one). Marcel is nursing his bruises and prepares to return to Philly, while Daniel will stay in Europe to have a closer base of operations to move to whichever VHLE organisation is going to pick him in the upcoming draft. He will also be closer to the OYM in Cham, where Team Europe will have its training camp. Daniel suggested the state-of-the-art venue to prepare for the WJC and GM Ms Leblanc @Horcrux jumped at the opportunity. Normally one would not be able to book the facilities for a full Hockeyteam on short notice, but Dan played for the club which is the main user (and whose CEO is the Owner)of the OYM (Own your Marks) and could pull some strings and cash in some favours to make it happen. At the World Championship he will face some people he met when playing for the Reapers (Ixazaluoh, Jones), or the Brigade (Karjalainen, Towbaker) and many others he played against. We were able to get in touch with him and asked him for a statement. Daniel: 'About half of the organisations in the VHLE stretched their feelers via my agent to see whether I am willing to play for them. To all of them I replied in the positive. I will wear the Jersey of whoever will elect me in the draft with pride and will do anything in my power to help the respective team to succeed. I do not have any favourites and for me it is part of the excitement to see who will pick me. I am also aware that I will not be played to the same extent as with the Reapers, where I was playing first line, power play as well as box play. I have no credit when I report to my new club and will have to earn my spot. And that is completely fine with me. It will be up to me to prove that I am worth my salt and that I can compete with the best, given time to adjust to the new role, team and system as well as developing myself.' When we asked Daniel whether the rumours of him being nominated for one of the most prestigious awards, the 'Fredrik Elmebeck Memorial Trophy', he was embarassed: 'Yes it is true that I was nominated as a potential recipient of this distinction. However, there were more suitable candidates available and I did not make the inner circle. This is entirely okay with me, since I was surprised to be in the race at all. I am proud though that the Reapers GM @Alex_J32 as well as AGM and Captain Mason Jones @Masu Chan and Vasile Lamb @dlamb are amongst the nominees who are in the final, so to speak. That just shows what great people the Reapers have to offer when four of them are nominated for a prize given away for 'great work ethic, passion for the VHL, and/or made some notable contribution which in your eyes made them stand out'. And best of all, you are nominated by your peers, not some self proclaimed comittee that may or may not be the victim of nepotism. It is the people you work with (or play against for that matter) who will nominate you and that makes it even more precious in my eyes. I am honoured to be a nominee for this award after only one season of professional hockey. Sorry, to cut you short but this weights don't lift themselves. Take care.'
