Let's catch up with the progress on the off-season tournaments with Swiss participation, shall we? Starting with the WJC.

    Semi-Final

    4-6
In one of the arguably best performances of a European team on a WJC in recent history, Zef Gonçalves' boys beat the defending champions 6-4. Matchett opened the score for Canada but Europe answered quickly with goals by Daniels in power play and Arcanum before the frame was done. Canada pulled one back with Elsby's power play goal but Europe scored two on the man advantage as well by Hagel and Greg. Early in the third period the Maple Leafs tied the game with markers by Elsby and Young. But Zef was not to be thwarted this time around and took a time out to address the sudden slack and complacency settling in the team. It was the Captain Sogaard who stepped up to the plate and scored two consecutive goals, one of them on a power play. Canada could not find an answer but not for lack of trying (the shots were 27-11 in the last period). Alas Mercier shut the door on the desperate Canadians. Sogaard (2g/1a), Elsby (2g/0a) and Hagel (1g/1a) were named the three stars of the game. Mercier (.915) had the upper hand over Kennedy (.842) between the pipes. The special teams out did themselves with a nearly perfect boxplay (5/6) and a perfect score (4/4) on the power play. It is safe to say that the special teams won the day for the Europeans.
    Marcel left the ice with 0g, 1a, -1, 1 hit and 2sb.

    Final

    2-3
In a hard fought match between Asia and Europe the latter came out victorious, despite being outshot in their 3-2 win. Asia scored first with Monkey starting the proceedings. Alas, Bridgers tied the game before the first intermission. Wallace then scored for Europe in the second for the only goal of the period. Busser tied the game for the Asians again before Hagel delivered the dagger with a power play marker. The three stars were given to Bridgers (1g/1a), Hagel (1g/1a) and Busser (1g/0a). Mercier (.941) played Bryzgalov (.889) against the wall. Team Europe had a perfect penalty kill (4/4) and a decent power play (1/3).
    Marcel had 0g, 1a, -1, 1 hit and 1sb to his name.

In the aggregate, Marcel's record for the whole World Cup is as follows:
    10gp, 1g, 8a, 9pts, +2, 20 PIM, 10 hits, 19sb, 1ppg, 🥇

Daniel in the meantime did not meet as much success with his extracurricular activities and ended up third in the ProAm Tournament.

The last few Round Robin games ended as follows:
    4-1 loss to the Hawks
    2-1 win against Kodiak
    4-3 loss against Kodiak
    3-2 win against Jersey
    4-2 win against the Bagels
    4-2 loss against the Hawks
    3-1 win against the Bagels
    1-0 win against Jersey

After the Round Robin, Daniel had the following stats to show for:
    20gp, 9g, 12a, 21pts, +7, 22 PIM, 44 hits, 3sb, 3gwg,

    In the playoffs the Sissies fell to the Hawks 4-1 in the series with the results being 3-4 L, 2-5 L, 3-2 W, 2-3 L, 3-6 L

Daniel's stats for the playoffs were:
    5gp, 3g, 3a, 6pts, +1, 4 PIM, 17 hits, 1sb, 58.08 FO%

We will revert with news on the Jansers' quest for everlasting glory in the VHL in due course.

Is_thatok reacted to leandrofg in Team Europe's S83 campaign
We've reached the end of another World Junior Hockey Championship. As my selfish goal, I intended to avenge Team Europe's season 82 campaign.

Last season's campaign was a heartbreaker.

Not only for me as the leader but everyone involved with the team... heartbreak. After sweeping the round-robin stage in a fabulous, undefeated fashion, a debacle happened.

We not only lost in the semi-finals, but our morale broke, and we lost the bronze medal game.

This stuck with me, as I couldn't let it go, so I put my name up again to lead Team Europe. Fortunately, I got the call, and this chance wouldn't go to waste.

The first thing was getting the band together, so I called Janser, and he swiftly said yes - and he brought a new mentee!

After this, it was team-building time, and I don't think we could have chosen any better. We started by getting our returning captains, Tomas Sogaard and Leandro Goncalves. The ex-Kings partners were part of last season's effort and were the right players to lead the rest of the team.

Afterward, we dipped our hands in the two best teams of the VHLE, my Bratislava Watchmen and the Vasteras Iron Eagles.

Marcel Janser, Harry Hagel, Baxter Arcanum, Phoebe Bridgers, Alf Larsson, and someone who ultimately couldn't join us, Janet Snakehole.

We followed by picking some of the best in the VHLE, Calen McKay, Noodles Marconi, and PJ Daniels.

Finally, it was time to pick from the VHLM's best.

Fraser Wallace and Svatopluk Puk, from the Marlins. Jean Mercier from the Lynx, Basileus Jute from the Wild, and last but not least, Velociraptor Greg from the Aces.

This group didn't go undefeated in the round-robin stage, conceding three losses, but played great hockey as a great team. And that allowed us to go through in 1st-place.

Do you know what they did do? They won the last two games of the tournament and hatched their names in history.

These players are the World Junior Hockey Champions. Season 83 is theirs, and I couldn't be more proud of this group. 🇪🇺

Tagging you all, because I appreciate you!
    @Daniel Janser @Anthique @Is_thatok @Matt thunder @Morcar80 @jasplunds @ctots @samx @Kendrick @Hoopydog @Brandon @xNJDevilsFanx @GrittyIsKing @ng1291 @Eynhallow @Otaznik

One last deserved shout-out is a fellow European, Frosty, who this past season allowed me to pick his brain about line strategy, and that came in very handy during the tournament. @FrostBeard
  16. Cheers

Things happened in the WCJH and the ProAm Tournament and without any further prelude, please find the respective news wrapped up for your reading pleasure.

    6-1
Marcel's Team Europe conquered Asia in a landslide 6-1 win. The deal was pretty much sealed when the Europeans scored three unanswered goals in the first period with Gonçalves, Larsson and Sogaard finding the back of the net. The dominance continued in the second period but only resulted in Puk's first goal of the tournament. Gonçalves further increased the lead, before Bennet spoiled Mercier's shutout with a shorthanded goal. Sogaard reinstated the five goal lead before the match's end though. The three stars were awarded to Gonçalves (2g/1a), Larsson (1g/2a) and Sogaard (2g/0a). The goalie duell was almost a non contest with Mercier (.938) besting Wallob (.870) who at times appeared clueless as to where the puck was. Team Europe's power play was a tire fire, as they did not only fail to score a goal in four attempts, they were also scored against. The penalty kill units however showed good form and shut the door on Asia's two attempts.
    Marcel was reported with 0g, 1a, +3 and 1sb.

    5-4
The second featured match did not go as much in Europe's favour as the previous one, and was lost 5-4 to the perennial favourite Canada. Young in power play for Canada and Larsson on even strength for Europe scored in the first frame. Young and one of his lesser known team mates scored in the second period, interrupted by Sogaard. The third period ended 2-2 with Elsby and Komaryk scoring for the Maple Leafs and Bridgers as well as Marconi for the Old World. Larsson (1g/1g), Young (2g/0a) and Xavier (0g/2a) were given the post match honours. Kennedy (.892) had an edge over Jute (.839) in net. Europe's power play was subpar (1/6) and the box play was a disgrace (3/6) on even strength, the Europeans were the better team.
Marcel logged 0g, 1a, -1, 2 PIM (Holding Stick, did not lead to a goal against), 1 hits and 1sb.

    3-1
In the direct rematch, Europe came back with a vengeance, winning the game 3-1. It was the Canadian team to open the score with Bouchard's power play goal. But that was all the offense Canada had that night. Sogaard with a power play marker of his own equalized the game before the first horn sounded. Wallace and Larsson with a double strike in the second period achieved already the final score, as the third period came and went with neither team being able to find the back of the net. The three stars went to Mercier (32 saves), Gonçalves (0g/2a) and Larsson (1g/0a). Mercier (.970) showed an all-star performance but also Kennedy's (.930) performance was remarkable and kept the Maple Leafs in the game. Europe's special teams were again not up to the tasks put in front of them with only one of six power plays converted and allowing one goal in two box play situations.
    Marcel left the ice with 0g, 0a, +1, 2 hits and 1sb.

    1-2 (SO)
In a tight game that had no business of being tight, the Europeans secured two points against the Asian team in a 2-1 shootout win. Marcel in power play hammered Daniels' blocked deflection (Sakamoto sacrificed his body) past the Asian netminder for a 1-0 lead in the first period. In the second frame, Retoslav with a power play marker tied the game. This was the score after 60 minutes as well as the sudden death. Asia can thank Bryzgalov to be in the race at all as the shot count was 47-25 in favour of Team Europe. Larsson buried the deciding penalty in the shootout. Bryzgalov (46 saves), Jute (24 saves) and Sakamoto (5sb) were named three stars of the game. Bryzgalov (.979) singlehandedly dragged his team in to OT and SO, and kept his inept team mates in the game as long as he could. Alas, he succumbed to the cold blooded European scorers. Jute had a respectable save rate of .960 which in nine out of ten cases would be enough to be the better netminder, but not this night. Europe's special teams sought redemption and recorded 1/3 for the power play and 5/6 for the penalty kill, both respectable numbers.
Marcel was noted with 1g, 0a, +0, 4 PIM (Hooking and Holding, both inconsequential to the result) and 1 hit.

    2-1
In the next match the tables were turned. Europe had no right to keep the match as tight as it was and had to concede the game 2-1. Thunder for the US scored first early on the first on power play. Mitchell followed up with a marker early in the second, before Hagel cut the lead in half with a power play goal. No goals were scored in the third period. The three stars were awarded to Wilson (31 saves), Mercier (50 saves) and Mitchell (1g/0a). Despite Mercier's (.962) herculean effort, he lost the game as well as the goalie duel against stellar Wilson (.969). Europe's special teams kept them in the game with power play being super efficient (1/3) and a gritty box play which drove the US boys almost to desperation (9/10).
Marcel had 0g, 0a, +0, 7 PIM (Fighting and Goalie Interference, no goal against scored during the penalty kill), 3 hits and 5sb to his name.

    5-3
Europe beat the world in an entertaining match with 5-3. Especially the first period was very lively at least score wise as McKay, Daniels (on power play) and Greg netted for Europe while Voss and Maple each converted a penalty against Europe. In second frame Bridgers profited from a bad line change on World's side and scored shorthanded. Gonçalves and Voss (on an other power play goal) were responsible for the final score with their third period goals. Gonçalves (1g/1a), Janser (0g/3a) and Voss (2g/1a) were named the three stars of the night. Vandelay (.884) had one of his weaker games and lost the showdown between the pipes against Mercier (.909) accordingly. Europe's power play was okay (1/5) but the box play remains a source of concern with three goals allowed in six attempts.
    Marcel was reported with a 0g, 3a, +3 and 2sb record.

The young Swiss finished the Round Robin with the following stats:
    8gp, 1g, 6a, 7pts, +4, 20 PIM, 8 hits, 16sb, 1ppg and one nomination for second star.

Daniel's Yorkshire Sissies recorded the following results:
    7-2 win against the Bagles
    4-2 win against the Bagles
    0-2 loss against Kodiak
3-4 OT loss against the Jerseys
    3-2 win against the Bagles
    5-2 win against the Jerseys
    2-4 loss to the Hawks

At the time of writing this article the Sissies show a 5-4-2 record and are smack in the middle of the five participating teams.

Daniel's record for the S83 ProAm as of yet is:
    11gp, 2g, 6a, 8pts, -3, 10 PIM, 29 hits, 1sb

    Stay tuned for further updates.

Congratulation to all of you who were selected! You're most certainly a worthy and deserving bunch. I'm counting on you to avenge last season's team and bring that gold medal home! 🥇

Now, last season it was easy to select the captains, as many were returning. This season, though, only two of our players were involved last season, therefore only the captain and one alternate will be chosen, leaving the other two alternate spots open for you to vote.

Without further ado, S83 WJC Team Europe's captain is...

    Tomas Sogaard, @Brandon! 🇩🇰

The other returning player and first alternate is...

    Leandro Goncalves, @leandrofg! 🇵🇹

Let's create that great Locker Room vibe - 'cause I know our captain will be mad if we don't!

    S83 OTTAWA LYNX CAPTAINS

With the 83rd season getting under way I want to take the time and make an announcement on the new Ottawa Lynx Captains. These players will lead the Lynx and transform tragedy into triumph.

    A -  James Marino ( @Adrest245 )

Marino is backbone to the team. Very dependable. When the team is breaking down everyone looks at Marino to pick us back up. It is Marino's second season as a Lynx and we couldn't be happier that they decided to stay for one more season.

    A -  Jean Mercier ( @Is_thatok )

What is a leader without having your goalie there to help. Mercier is there for his team and always has been. One of the most active players on the team and continuing to get better. Starting out the season great with a 0.918 SV%!!

    A -  Mikayev Ivanovitch ( @Mikayev Ivanovitch )

Lastly but not least we have Mikayev Ivanovitch. Another player that decided to stay with the Lynx even though they got drafted by the Rush and the Americans. Mikayev is our offensive machine scoring 41 goals and 41 assist last season. We look forward for another productive season from Mikayev again.

These are the assistant captains for the 83rd season. The Captain of the team will be named in the coming future! We look forward for another productive year for the team and get back to the winning ways that is engraved into our history!!

1.obviously we’re staking for next draft to have as many players as possible. This year is a rebuild
2.equally motivated, I knew signing with Mississauga wasn’t putting me on a winning team
3.damm that’s a hard question, maybe have a different like modified training facility to give different amount of tpe depending on certain things
4.in the locker room? Not really I stay active quit a lot to give a good ambiance, maybe more players who do the same
5.not really theirs a lot of people that are ready to help if you have any problems
6.i keep up with certain events that I like. Especially hockey and maybe other sports

    1. Rebuild year. Wasn’t expecting much but I certainly played better than I thought
    2. I like him, good goalie. Bringing in some good help on the back end alright sv%
    3. not sure what the questions means. I think it’s saying to give a rating out of 10. My team right now 6/10 not best performing but fun to be in active guys and all. Forum is 7/10 great overall but always room to improve
    4. Murdoch mysteries, shameless, the 100, Brooklyn 99 and the flash
    5. football(soccer) love it. Some players don’t give it a good image but it’s fun to play since everyone can participate. It’s not one wear you need to learn a skill just to practice like hockey or baseball
    6. I like it. More fun when there’s more guys but couple good players that are fun to talk to. Great management as well
