The piece was nice too. I always enjoy reading these kind of backstories of the players. It really fleshes them out and gives you a more immersive experience, imo. 

I've been a d man my whole life, just seemed suiting for my first player.  The role play I think is one of the coolest parts about the forum too, it really is fun coming up with the stories! Thanks for the feed back, love to see it!

1. Another ROUGH week of sims for us, as of this writing we are in DEAD LAST  in the standings! How is this affecting your morale? Are you still enjoying yourself in spite of the bad luck, or are you ready to execute @Minion and I?

 

2. Congratulations! Halifax management has been officially executed under your personal orders, and YOU have been awarded the General Manager position in our place! What are some things you do now that you're in charge?

 

3. Speaking of GMs doing things, we made quite a few trades in the last week! We said tearful goodbyes to Bobby Rockwell @Kairi , Ariane LeBlanc @Horcrux, Gavin Zininger @ScoreAGoalBudEh, and now Weenuk Warrior @KnightRiley. In return, we've been fortunate enough to welcome John your door @your door, Wumbo @Fire Vigneault, and assorted draft picks for the future @S83. How do you feel about your new teammates, and how would you welcome them to Halifax?

Rookie Rundown: Who Is Halifax’s New Defensive Signing?

 

Eaton Kuch is a young, talented kid from the rural communities of Northern Ontario.  His upbringing in hockey differed from most who typically make it to this level.  He didn’t actually play his first game of hockey until he was 14.  You wouldn’t have known if you had the opportunity to see him play in his minor career.  He led the league in points, with 119 in just 55 games.  He would lead his team to the international silver stick, which is where he first came onto my radar.  Watching him play out there, I knew I had to keep an eye on this kid's career.

 

The next season, Eaton signed with the London National’s, a Jr. B club in the GOJHL.  This may have been a mistake, as he hadn’t quite filled his shoes out yet.  Now among bigger and faster players, Eaton would have to advance his game if he wanted to compete in this league.  His first season with the team was nothing of note.  He played third line minutes, only scoring 17 points in 64 games.  This was nowhere close to the numbers the coaching staff was looking to see out of him.   It was time for Eaton to step his game up.

 

That next summer, Eaton stayed in London to train with the coaching staff and team.  I went out to one of their scheduled practices near the end of the summer to see how some of the returning players were looking prior to the season.  I barely recognized Eaton when I first walked into the brisk air of the arena.  He looked much taller and had put on some significant muscle mass.  I was looking to catch him after the practice to ask him about his hopes for the season, but I had to settle with talking to his coach, Colin Martin.  I asked him what he thought about Eaton, and what he expected from him in the coming season.

 

“He’s (Eaton) a good kid.  He works hard everyday, and he is always trying to find areas to improve his game.  I am really proud of the steps he has taken this summer to bring his game up.  We had him lifting a lot this summer to make him more solid out there.  As for what I’m looking for out of him though.  Well, one side of me hopes we have brought back the kid we saw Silver Stick.  The other side just wants to see him make progress.  He is still young and his shot is still very much alive.”

 

Eaton absolutely exploded in his sophomore season.  Scoring 98 points in 68 games. With his increase in size he was back to his ways of the outdoor rink.  He would go on to win league MVP the next season, as he almost single handedly dragged the Nationals to a  Cherry Cup.  Unfortunately they weren’t able to seal the deal, and lost to the Listowel Cyclones. It would be his amazing efforts of the season that caught the eyes of some VHLM managers, signing a contract within 24 hours of entering the Free Agency.  Now much like his coach from the nationals, we can only hope that Eaton Continues his ways while playing for the Halifax 21st.

Yeah, I was born a raised a Habs, and grew up watching Markov silently put up points while still being really solid on the line.  I appreciate that you tried, but my patriotic heart was being called to coastal fogs lol

Eaton Kuch

 

Eaton Dusty Kuch, grew up as any typical Canadian kid with a passion for hockey.  Although he didn't have the typical start that most players do.  Being raised by a single mother with three siblings, Eaton's family simply couldn't afford to put him into an organized league.  That didn't stop Eaton from chasing his dream.  It all started when he was just 7 years old, his brother Dickson (11), would take him down to the local outdoor rink to play with him and his friends.  Dickson brought his brother out thinking it would just be an easy way to baby sit.  Little did he know that Eaton was born to play to the game.  They went down to the rink every day that first winter, and Eaton's improvement blew everyone out of the water.  By the end of the winter Eaton was keeping up with his brother and his friends, in skating and his vision of the game was undoubtedly god given. 

 

Over the next few years that was what Eaton's winters consisted of.  Everyday you would see him down at the rink playing with the other local kids.  When there was no other kids to play with, he would push himself through drills, skating until he couldn't feel his legs any longer.  HIs mom remembers a night when Eaton was 13 and he had just come home from the rink, with two massive blisters on each foot.  She asked him "Why do you do this to yourself? You know that I can't afford to sign you up for an actual league."  HIs response sticks with her to this day.  "Momma, I am going to keep working hard at this, because I don't know why but I have a feeling that this is what I was meant to do."  The kid couldn't have been more accurate.  That year the community hosted an outdoor tournament, where Dickson and his friends entered a team into the U18 division. They had to make a request to be able to have Eaton play for them as an underaged player.  The teams in the division all laughed, as they agreed to the request thinking they would walk all over this kid.  In the 6 round robin games of the tournament, Eaton put up a whopping 16 points (3 goals, 13 assists).   In the quarter final game he would add another 6 points to the tally.  The final two games were much tighter with, outstanding goal tending performances on both ends of the ice.  He still managed to put up 5 points in those two games.   

 

That following Monday, Eaton's face was plastered on the front page of the local newspaper.  The article talked about a local phenom playing years above his age, that never played organized hockey.  Noah Dea the writer of the of the column (and Eaton's biggest supporter outside his family) made a plea with the community that would change Eaton's life forever.  Noah asked the community to make donations to give Eaton a shot at playing some real hockey.  Noah thought at first this would be fruitless, but boy was he wrong!  The whole community came together and got Eaton everything he needed to get his career started. The following year when Eaton was 14 he would play his first game of organized hockey.  He opened his playing career up with 2 goals, and 5 assists.  His career only developed from there, as he was quickly receiving interest from junior league scouts.

His junior career only continued to show the same trend.  Eaton was turning into a shutdown d-man with insane offensive passing awareness.  He was liked among his team mates and staff on the teams for his dedication and hard work.  He will give it his all both on and off the ice.  Now with a pro contract on the horizon we just have to wait and see if Kuch has what it takes to make it in the big leagues.
