  1. LEGION STRUGGLING — APPROACHING BOTTOM OF NA CONFERENECE Frustrations are mounting in Toronto as the Legion find themselves dealing with a six-game losing streak TORONTO, ON — With a game against the defending champions, the Toronto Legion were looking to break a skid and show the VHL that they are a team that will be able to compete with the best. Unfortunately, the team did not see things go their way and suffered their sixth loss in a row to the Bears. The chemistry between Isabella Campbell and Venus Thightrap was on display the entire game as one of these two players were involved in each goal for the game. Within the first 10 minutes of the game, the Bears were sitting with a two goal lead thanks to two tallies from Campbell. Toronto used this game as an opportunity to get a backup start completed and would pay for it as Seattle only needed five shots to get their first two goals of the game. Following that, Klamasteris would enter the game and need to face 45 further shots through the game. Seattle controlled the play getting many more opportunities than Toronto’s 30 shots. “We knew it was going to be a challenge for us,” said winger Phoenix Dawson. “We were letting them get too many quality chances and left our goalie out there to dry. If we want to show everyone that we are a top team in the league then we are going to have to figure out a way to start winning some games.” It was clear that frustrations were at a peak for certain players as well. Jolly Greene Giant found himself in the box on five different occasions through the game with one double minor and four other penalties. In total, Toronto spent 18 minutes of the game in the penalty box and it was very apparent that this team has some unsolved business with the Bears. While the team struggled in the box, they were able to take advantage of their own powerplay late in the third period but it was too late to catch up to the Bears offense. Toronto also saw the strong play of SS Hornet continue. “We know we have to get out of the slump,” said Dawson. “We have a team full of talented players that just can’t get things going right now. Eventually we are going to heat up again and we are going to do everything we can to avoid another slump like this.” With the now six losses, Toronto has not played like the better team. Seeing significant blowouts like a 8-1 loss is clearly taking its toll on the team and the fan base. If Toronto wants to improve, changes are going to need to happen. Keep an eye on Toronto as management looks at possible trades that may see the team bring in more talent or decide to go in another direction and sell some talent with contracts set to be renewed at the end of the season.
  2. 1. We started off great but are in a major slump now. Hopefully we figure it out. 2. Nope. I think Dawson is capable of much more and it's just not happening. 3. New league is exciting but adds so many layers and overall won't mean much to me with this player. 4. Vasteras showing up again would be cool! Oslo, Rome, Paris... 5. That's awesome! I hope he gets 10 for the season. 6. Right now I'm wondering if we will shake this slump. I'm guessing 4th.

  5. 1. Toronto's off-season was certainly busy in a good way. I think the acquisition for Killinger will prove to be the highlight in the post-season. 2. Judging by how the season is going so far I'm going to predict three with Hornet, Odinsson and Scotty! 3. Easily. We already have Hornet, Greene Giant and Green all at an assist-per-game pace! 4. Yeah, I'm going to say Hornet pulls it off for us. 5. There is a lot of competition for us so I'm going to say we do get the 40 wins, but I'm not sure it will be the top of the conference. 6. Five games in with six points. Hopefully this pace keeps up!

  11. Dawson Back to Work Legion sophomore looking for turn-around season after many hours of practice through the off-season TORONTO, ON — With the S78 regular season right around the corner, Phoenix Dawson and the Toronto Legion are preparing to make another stand to show the VHL what they are made of. With the announcement from the VHL that there will be a temporary two-tier salary cap for S78, the Legion were able to bring in some star power with Erik Killinger joining the defense for the season and Jon Webber filling out the roster for the forwards. The only remaining question is to find out what this will mean for the younger forwards on Toronto hoping to make an impact during the season. In the case of Phoenix Dawson, the young center has been hard at work since arriving in Toronto. With the effort going on in practice and in the gym, the forward is now above 500 practice hours which is quite the improvement but it still leaves him on the outs with a stronger group in front of him. It’s expected that Dawson’s ice time will be limited to a lower line like in the situation with Webber as management monitors to see if they can improve over the season. The challenge ahead for Dawson will be to find results on the ice that shows he deserves further opportunities to see more ice time. Following a rookie campaign that didn’t see him get consideration for rookie of the year let alone even scoring in the top 10 for rookies, Dawson is going to need some better results. Following the work through the off-season, it seems Dawson’s game has strongly improved on defense which should help when it comes to making some highlight passes to his teammates. “I’ve been honest when I say I’m not happy with how last season went,” said Dawson. “I want to show the league that I can be one of the best players and I’m putting in all the work I can to make that a reality. I think this season is going to be very important for making that point to the league so we’ll see how everything goes.” Going into the last season of his rookie contract, if Dawson is not able to show what he has to offer through his development and success in his game he very well may be looking for his third VHL team for his third season in the league. With players again and possible changes to come, it’s to be expected that Dawson could slot in to the future plans for the team but with the current young talent it is important for the young player to make an impact as soon as possible. “That’s something that I will worry about in the off-season,” said Dawson in regards to his contract. “Right now I am focused on doing whatever I can to become a better player and show Toronto that I am ready for the opportunity. Hopefully by the end of the season we won’t even have to talk about these questions.” Keep an eye on Dawson and the Legion when the regular season gets started later this week.
  12. 1. I didn't watch the Awards ceremony. I didn't know there even was one! Maybe next season. 2. I missed the opportunity to submit but thankfully this reminded me for this season. 3. With no action from Toronto there wasn't much to be interested in for me and it clashed with the ISFL draft. 4. Hopefully he'll be fine! It's a lot to step into but the team in front of him will help. 5. Well thankfully with the changes we have a bit more so hopefully we'll bring in some more talent. 6. I might be overly optimistic but I'm expecting about the same if not better. Cup season?
  13. ON THE MOVE AGAIN? Phoenix Dawson finds himself in an interesting situation with Toronto -- could he be used as trade bait? TORONTO, ON — With the VHL season over all attention now turns to the VHL Entry Draft and all the other off-season transactions that fans look forward to. Unfortunately for one young Toronto player, there are whispers that he may be finding himself on his third team in just one season. With Toronto looking to head into the next few seasons a move may be required to make sure they are cap compliant and Phoenix Dawson finds himself on the outs with an expiring contract that Toronto may be able to shop to other teams in the league. This news comes just weeks after Seattle and Toronto swapped young players at the deadline which would play into their playoff series and Seattle eventually hoisting the Cup. “I’m just focusing on my own work,” said Dawson. “I don’t want to get caught up in something that may not even happen and I am dedicated to putting in the work to make sure that I am a better player when the season starts.” The Toast Player Agency released a vague message stating that Dawson would be loyal to his team regardless of what team that may be. It’s not hard to see the hype in Toronto over the arrival of prospect Asher Reinhart who at a season younger is arguably already a better player than Dawson at their natural positions and with SS Hornet returning for another season with the Legion there may be a lack of space. Following the trade deadline acquisition, Dawson found himself playing wing for Toronto like he was doing in Seattle. Phoenix picked up chemistry with fellow young players in Scotty Kaberle and Kristof Welch but it may not be enough reasoning to keep the young center around as Toronto tries to figure out what to do with the limited space on the team. “Next season I intend to show everyone how much I have improved over the past few seasons,” said Dawson. “I know that my rookie season could have been better than it was but I am just going to use that as fuel and make sure that I come back better next time around.” While off-season rumours are nothing more than that, it seems likely that Toronto is considering every possible option and Dawson going into his sophomore season certainly should attract some interest around the league. If not, look for Toronto to continue playing Dawson on the wing while second line C duties will either go to Lester Green or possible rookie of the year in Reinhart. This leaves Dawson on the outside trying to find an opportunity for himself but the young player seems to be committed to putting in every bit of work to try to get that opportunity. With the off-season just getting started make sure to keep an eye on Toronto for any possible moves in the coming days where we may see Dawson yet again on the move. Otherwise, Toronto will hopefully benefit from having a prospect with a chip on his shoulder to show the league his value.
  14. Wow, what a bittersweet feeling to see your former team go and win it all. I’m very happy to see Seattle pull off the win in the finals and take home a Continental Cup but I can’t help but feel a little disappointed since I was traded from the team at the deadline. Banack knows what he’s doing though and worked some magic to get DA BEARZ to another championship and I’m happy for the team there overall but I really hope that this is not the start of another Cup curse for me! Going into the off-season now the goal is to just work on gaining as much as I can since that will help Toronto and hopefully we won’t get bumped out of the playoffs by the eventual Cup winners again. It’s nice to see such a dedicated group with the Legion looking over things for the off-season where it seems we may see some changes but that’s also what makes sim leagues fun overall. I’m just going to keep doing my weekly stuff and I’ll be sure to see how things go over the next week or two to see how the team is shaping up for next season!
  15. 1. Quite enjoy all of Star Wars. Finished Mando a few weeks ago finally but didn't do any watching for the 4th. 2. I want it to go by as quickly as possible to enjoy some games again but I do like off-season TPE. 3. Yep! Very happy for my Seattle pals. 4. Mother's Day today was nice, had the mother-in-law over for lunch. Looking forward to when I can see my parents in person again. Yard work after that exhausted me. 5. Coke for sure. Tried Coke Zero this weekend and it's actually pretty damn good. Going to switch to that. 6. Rookie seems like a great person in the LR. Disappointed we couldn't get it done for Hextall.
  16. SEATTLE MOVING ON Devastation in Toronto following the result of Game 6 TORONTO, ON — The Continental Cup will not be coming to Toronto this season. Following a six-game series, the Seattle Bears were able to eliminate the Legion after coming back from a 2-0 series deficit. In the first game of the series, the two teams ended up playing more than two games worth of hockey as the game was not decided until the fourth overtime period of the game. With players absolutely exhausted at this point, SS Hornet was able to finish the game and get a early lead for the Legion. Another notable note for the game was the fantastic play of the goalies through these six periods. Seattle’s Rara Rasputin stopped 86 of the 91 Toronto shots and Toronto’s Jaxx Hextall was able to stop 67 of 71 shots for the win. Another huge note for Toronto through this series was the team playing to win it all for Hextall. Hextall being a huge member of the Legion who has possibly played for the last time in a Legion uniform, everyone wanted to see him go out with a Continental Cup victory. Heading into game 2, the teams again could not solve the game through regulations. Toronto held a 3-1 lead at one point but Seattle was able to force the game into overtime. This time it wouldn’t quite go the distance as Game 1 as SS Hornet again was the overtime hero for Toronto and was able to find the back of the net following a penalty to General Zod. At this point it was looking like Toronto could run away with the series, but Game 3 showed that wouldn’t quite be the case. For the third game in a row these two teams found themselves heading to overtime for the third game in a row. This time around Toronto found themselves trailing 3-1 but were able to tie it up late in the third on a powerplay goal from Scotty Kaberle with two minutes left in the game. Seattle was able to get control in overtime and after peppering shots on Hextall, Hex Rose was able to beat him and get Seattle back in the series. It took until game 4 in this series for a game to be decided in regulation and it was a wild game from the first period. After 20 minutes the game was tied 3-3 and after the 2nd period it was 4-4. After getting their one powerplay in the third period, a Seattle trade acquisition in Frostbeard was able to get the Bears the lead and tie the series up. Game 5 saw the teams go back to overtime yet again and this time the star of the show was Frank Funk Jr who was flipped to Seattle at the trade deadline. In back-to-back games the names from some Seattle deals saw the Bears take a lead in the series and get the Legion in a corner. Game 6 was the end of this series despite a strong effort from the Legion to get back into it. The star of the game this time around was Rasputin who was able to turn away all of Toronto’s 33 shots in the game and send the Legion out of the playoffs. Despite some changes looming, Toronto still has a bright future with quite a bit of young talent through the roster. After heating up through the second half in the season, expect Toronto to be a point of interest in the next few seasons.
  17. Well, when the Legion took the early 2-0 series lead with those many many overtimes I figured that the team would be able to hold on for the series win. The Bears came back and won six in a row to officially eliminate Toronto and I'm left feeling a little disappointed. The group in Toronto is fantastic and I'm sure we will come around to really being contenders over the next few seasons but to have our team go down against the team that traded me at the deadline stings a little bit for sure. Going into the off-season, I'm going to make sure that I earn as much as possible for the next season. Dawson's rookie season was definitely rough despite coming in with the extra TPE from an extra season in the minors but I'm hoping that next season with the extra games on the Legion I'll be able to build up some chemistry with some of the players like Welch or Kaberle. Dawson did almost go point per game in the series with five assists, showing that the passing ability is still improving as well. Hopefully we'll fly through the rest of the post-season and the off-season and see how Dawson does next season for the Legion.
  18. 1. Series has been great so far. Hopefully we can make a comeback here and pull off the win. 2. Dawson has been PPG in the playoffs and Funk Jr score G5's OT winner. It's been quite the story for this trade. 3. Very strong performance from the team. Hopefully it stays that way next season! 4. Definitely Dawson coming in at the deadline even though that's part way through the second half! 5. Do it for Hextall/Dawson-Funk Jr battle. Heck the other series. 6. I haven't been following the VHLM since leaving Miami...
  19. Already a ton of reviews here but I'm going to pile on. Good overview here of why scouting is crucial for teams. Well done KC. Goes into things teams may not consider if they are blinded by builds and TPE. Like the formatting too! 10/10
  20. Hi Spartan, thanks for the clickbait title. 8/10 based off that alone. Good write up though, appreciate seeing a review of the season for your team. Looks like the Draft will be a lot of fun for you. A little bit long for what was meant to be a .com?
  21. DAWSON ON THE MOVE After commenting on Trade Deadline to media, Seattle moved Phoenix Dawson to Toronto in a one-for-one deal Phoenix Dawson meets with Toronto media following his first practice with the team earlier this week TORONTO, ON — At the start of the season Phoenix Dawson had dreams of being Seattle’s number one center in a few seasons. Now, he finds himself looking for a new home in Ontario. The young center was traded from the Seattle Bears at the trade deadline in exchange for Frank Funk Jr. Both players coming from the S76 Entry Draft, this transaction is looked at as both teams looking to give their young players a fresh start on different teams. Seattle and Toronto continue to battle it out for the top of the North American conference with Dawson and Frank finding themselves in similar situations on their new teams. “I think Toronto gives me the opportunity to be one of the best players in the game,” said Dawson when meeting the Legion media members for the first time. “I really enjoyed my conversation with the management team here when I found out about the trade and I think Toronto will be the perfect home for me going forward.” Dawson seemed to fall behind fellow Bear prospects Hex Rose and Phil the Rock Johnson after spending an additional season in the VHLM and there were doubts that he was ever going to be able to reach the point of other young players in the league. There were optional practices that Dawson was absent from and it seemed maybe the pressure of being on his preferred team was not working out. Seattle stated that the deal was nothing more than giving an opportunity for Dawson to grow as a player while hoping that Funk Jr. would also become a better player through the transaction. So far since arriving in Toronto, it seems that Dawson has a point to prove and is back on the ice at any available time. Dawson has now played 12 games with the Legion and has been a little slow out of the gate with his performance, but it’s clear that the center does have a future with the team. On the ice Dawson found chemistry out of the gate with the team’s leading scorer Oh Sens and fellow S76 draft pick Kristof Welch. “The team has been extremely welcoming,” said Dawson. “I didn’t expect to be traded this early in my career but I’m going to make sure that Toronto appreciates making the move. This team is already one of the best in the league and I’m hoping that with a bit more time I will be able to make an impact as well.” In his first week with the Legion, Dawson is approaching 30 practice hours and if he can hold this pace will climb back into the argument of being a top 10 player in the S76 group. The Legion are going to be hoping that he gets scoring as soon as possible as the team goes into the post-season looking for a Continental Cup. “I will always appreciate my time in Seattle,” Dawson concluded. “I made some great friends there but it is time to get to work with Toronto.”
