    1. The season starts tomorrow. What are you hoping to see from your player stat wise?

    2. Have you started to gel with your teammates or is warming up to your teammates going slower?

    3. Which team do you feel like will be the biggest obstacles in our way to the  Renaissance Cup?

    4. What is the weirdest food item you every ate?

    5. Who is your favorite hockey youtuber or podcaster?

    6. What is your choice for Utah's new team's brand?

    1. Figured I should shoot for the stars, targeting top point getter, highest hits, blocks, +/- and penalties.

    2. Preseason has been a blast, looking forward to building chemistry on the ice

    3. They are all just speedbumps for me to run over

    4. Pineapple on pizza

    5. I don't really watch youtubers or listen to podcasts

    6. Just put a question mark on the jersey, nobody knows what is happening with them, or to be amusing you could call the the Salt Lake City Phoenix

  2. Only a couple of days left before the first games of season 94 are played. Felicia Hardy has settled in Stockholm, has taken to the ice to familiarize themselves with the nuances of the rink. With the meeting and greeting of players and management now complete, Felicia Hardy is fully focused on the season ahead.

There is a sense that this will be a monumental season for the Stockholm Vikings, a buzz can be felt in the city. Merchandise for the new additions has been flying off the shelf as fast as the shopkeepers can bring it into their stores. The fans want to be the first to don the sweater for the new stars of the league.

For Felicia Hardy new equipment has arrived and is sitting waiting in the locker room, practice gear and game gear hung ready. The next couple of days will go by in a flash and then we will be at the puck drop. The anticipation of the season start will fade away and the excitement of the season will be in full swing. Will Stockholm push for glory this season, will their players have career seasons, who will rise, who will shine.

In the dark a new Viking waits, war is coming.

  3. With last week’s media spot, I looked at several different options for my season long series. As noted at that time I was yet to decide exactly what I wanted to do. As the season begins in only a few days I felt it best if I revealed my season long topic and discussed how I am going to structure the articles.

My series is going to be called, I really believe that Felicia Hardy is better than the season 93 defensive leaders and as such will be on a question to beat the league leaders in the following stats.

Overall Defensive Points leader which was held by Marty Byrd with 81 points in 72 games

Total Shots Blocked Leader which was Tobias Weiss with 249 shots blocked in 72 games

Total Hits which was Petit Hughie (there was a right wing with more) with 239 Hits in 72 games.

+/- Leader which was Scrungle Bungle with +31 in 72 games

Penalty minutes Leader which was Petit Hughie with 173 Penalty minutes in 72 games.

That is correct people I am going to try and take all categories that are typically led by defenders all in one season. I am not sure that anyone has tried, let alone succeeded in such a daring feat of skill and toughness but Felicia Hardy is prepared to try.

This article will break down the weekly contributions for Felicia Hardy comparing those targets against a stat per game expectation.

Points Target: 1.125 points per game

Shots Blocked Target: 3.458 blocks per game

Hits Target 3.32: hits per game

    +/- target: .43 per game

Penalty minute target: 2.39 minutes per game

In addition to looking at the statistics in total we will also look at contributions in specific games that are of note, looking at both positive contributions and negative contributions. Did Felicia Hardy put up a 3-point game, you will hear about how that is impacting overall performance. Did Felicia Hardy take a series of major penalties then you will hear about that as well. If it is noteworthy we will discuss it.

And that is not all, we will also do some analysis of minutes per game and roster dynamics to see if there is chemistry between Felicia Hardy and other players on the Stockholm Vikings team. We will look at all options to see how Felicia Hardy will complete this never done before feat (disclaimer: no research has been conducted to prove this claim, it is being included for the sole purpose of creating suspense and drama)

I recommend that you intently wait for and read this media spot every week, find out how Felicia Hardy is doing, will she be crowned as the best defender that the VHLE has ever seen, will she fall behind pace and will it be a push to the final game. Will this article be forgotten about and not read and only be a way for me to add TPE for my VHL season. Stay tuned, keep reading and we will find out.

We do prevent new creates from being signed by teams if they're at positional thresholds. At least we have the functionality to do so. unless it's been bugged recently, we have been adjusting caps to try to get most of the league to the same ranges before increasing further.

I think the issue is that we need to separate the concept of forward into winger and center.  6 forwards doesn't stop someone from picking a team, if someone had 6 wingers like I do now then it goes red and I don't believe a new winger can join my team.  But if I had 3 centers and 3 wingers then a new player can easily pick my team.

  8. I am going to go back to my comment up above, for me I can accept a system that assigns players.  I also don't care if we stick with our current system, under 1 condition: That being we define the roles of individuals prior to the point a player picks a team.  In my opinion from the point a player enters the league to the point they pick a team they are in the hands of the recruitment staff (noting VHLM GMs should not be allowed to be recruitment staff as it is a conflict of interest). Any work needed to help these people start their journey is part of recruitment.  Once they click that button to say I want to join (pick any team) then they are the responsibility of the GM. As they progress they pass from GM to GM, either through trade, free agency, moving up leagues, etc until the day the player plays their last game.  Meaning every player has a point of contact always, and someone to assist them with anything they need.

The positions should be defined and compensated as such.

I don't like the idea of giving teams the chance to pass at all under a priority system. Experience tells me that we'll see people declining players just because they don't feel like taking them or because they want recreates.

Some of the "what-if" scenarios I have in mind that would make me hesitant on a priority system are:

    • A first-gen player with a personal connection to someone on/running a specific team
    • Recreates in general who might want to have a say in where their player goes, for one reason or another
    • Players already on rosters with low player counts who could benefit from more teammates but would have no choice but to wait until the waiver order cycles all the way through again
    • GMs who already feel that the current system is lacking in that it's not "personal" enough and takes away too much control over success through skill at recruitment

How would you address these points within a portal system to be fair to each of these? I think all of these cases describe people that can benefit from players maintaining a level of control over where they sign.

Because it was asked for earlier, the initial discussion of the idea can be found here. It wasn't universally loved, and the main complaint was something similar to my last point above, that some GMs didn't like that it took away a level of control to begin with. Honestly, I'm a bit surprised that the proposal we have here would be moving way deeper in that direction.

How do you feel about what's given to you currently? Do you think that with what you're able to customize, a new member would be able to get your point enough to make an informed decision on whether to join your team? Is there anything you wish you could do under the current system that isn't available?

    Okay I'll address these:

Point one and 2, basically the answer is there is no good option here that allows flexibility.  In my opinion players will get over this (recreates will have the toughest time as they knew something different) but for the most part in real hockey leagues you get drafted and go to the team that picked you (grateful you get to play) with a few small exceptions (Lindros)

Point 3 - if waiver order is set by position deficiency then current standings that resolves this, as technically the same team could be first in waiver selection multiple times

Point 4 - this complaint is due to some GM knowing they can be first contact because they live on discord and the forum.  This creates all the elements of burnout for GM's.  The steps taken to bring us where we are were needed. These people need to stop bitching. If you want to manage a team to be competitive only move to the VHL or VHLE.

  10. So only issue with passing is as we get closer to trade deadline we don't want people to be encourage to pass so they can pick up recreates instead of first gens.

If waivers are done by positional deficiency there should never be a reason to pass.  A defender gets created and you have only 1, there is no valid reason to pass.

Also don't want people passing to avoid picking up a back up goalie and having to split starts when they are on a competitive run.  Take the goalie and deal with it.

  11. I am assuming that the waiver order would reset every season based on the last seasons standings based on your description.  Only grey area for me is that last years standings don't necessarily indicate this seasons needs because the draft resets the overall need.  Could waiver order be established first by # of players in the position and then second by current standings.  I am looking at a waiver order that isn't static but would vary based on the position the new player picked and the current rosters on each team.

If we were using current info I wouldn't even have an issue if players were assigned as they joined.

  12. Is there any way to do a walk through of what new players see now during the new player create into the waiver system.  I don't remember my process and to be honest Jacob railroaded me into joining SDM as he was the AGM at the time.  I think if we could walk through the process it might help. (especially for some of the GM that have been in the VHL for years)

  13. yet the message that comes out when someone joins discord specifically says the recruitment staff will come to help

Hey @Tyjirenthegrey23👽, welcome to Victory Hockey League a member of the recruitment staff shall be along shortly to assist you. Please read the rules page while you are waiting. If you are a new member, feel free to ask questions in here and learn about the league. For all other discussions, come join us in general. For a look into our league channels, check out vhl or vhlm or vhle!

  14. Can I ask what the defined role of the recruitment team is.  Where is the expected hand off between brining people into the league and the GM managing their team.

I have no problem being polite to everyone, and welcoming new people into discord.  I also say hi to many people who have been around for a while. But from a GM responsibility I always thought that started with the new player clicking the join team button, at which I would then send offer and work with them through that process and into the player build/joining team  and then hopefully be able to move them to the VHLE.

But prior to them clicking that join team, other than a polite greeting I always took that as hands off, we have a group that gets paid to do that.  Not my job.

  15. 5 minutes ago, Spartan said:

This was an intentional feature, because even under old systems, we'd see people immediately agreeing to join teams and then never returning after that day. Essentially you'd be saddled with a low TPA player on track to going IA that you had to play in case of their return. The system in its current fashion weeds those type of players out, as there's a bit of a time gap between when they send interest to a team, then that GM sends them a waiver offer. They've always existed, this isn't a new phenomenon.

I'm not sure about metrics specific to players who never actually send out interest in the first place. Not sure if that's something we have tracked, but you can pretty easily see which users create an account and a player, and then literally never come back to the forums after that.

If that is by design, and I accept your reasoning, I am good.  Just seems like a lot and i wonder if it is because some don't understand and not because they decide to bail on the idea

  16. I actually have little to say about the current structure of waivers from a process perspective.  I think the information provided to new players regarding teams and positioning is very helpful to them picking a team.  I do somewhat struggle with the amount of players who create and then never click to join a team, we may need to address if there is something causing issue here. The second piece is the inability to match the player interest to a team to the offer, last season I saw a lot of players being sent multiple offers from mainly the same couple teams, did this mean the players clicked on them to join or were some teams spamming creates to get signings.

If GM'ing becomes a secondary job where i need to monitor discord and the forum 24 hours a day I will be resigning.

  17. Hello Europe – Felicia Hardy has arrived

When asked Felicia Hardy had the following to say about heading to Europe for season 94:

The last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of excitement starting with a VHLM Founder’s Cup Championship with Saskatoon and then entering the drafts to be chosen in the first round by both Davos and Stockholm. And now I am on my way to Europe not only for the VHLE but also for the VHL.

Last season was an exceptional experience, competing in one of the top leagues in the world, learning from some of the best trainers, coaches and GM’s, a player could not ask for anything more. Yet now I am in a situation where I have been selected to join the VHLE, specifically the Stockholm Vikings.  I am grateful for my time in the VHLM as I learned so much that I expect to be able to use in the upcoming season but the ability to take my skills and talents to this new opportunity is something I cannot pass up.

So, what are my goals and expectations for Season 94? First off, I want to admit that I know the competition is going to be tougher, but I also know that I put in a lot of effort to build my skills in preparation. I have been working specifically on my stick work, my skating and using my body to separate players from the puck. I plan to enter the VHLE at full speed, to make my presence known and felt. I will not apologize to my opponents; this Viking comes to Battle, game in and game out. The battle lines have been drawn, and my goal is to do everything I can to ensure that when the dust settles that Stockholm will be represented in the VHLE Playoffs.

What am I doing between now and the first puck drop? I am immersing myself in the Stockholm Viking locker room, learning the culture, learning the systems, building relationships with my fellow teammates and the General Manager, in short, I am preparing for each battle ahead of us. It is my expectation that we will give everything we have in each and every battle so at the end of the season we will lift our heads high and proclaim that we have won the War. We will be victorious, together. Beware VHLE, the Vikings are coming, we come for the ultimate prize, and we will fight until it is ours.

Felicia Hardy Comes to Europe prepared, VHLE are you prepared?

  18. Here is the press conference for this week, wanted to release this after the draft so our new members could participate

Make sure to answer all questions with a full sentence

    1) What is your personal goal for TPE per week?

    2) Is there anything I can do to assist with that goal?

    3) What type of player are you building - please discuss skills not position?

    4) What would you like our team goal to be (playoffs, championship, fun locker room, etc)?

    5) Have any of you found the link between my first players name and my current players name, if so what is it?

    6) Why did you pick you players name? Is it significant?

  19. What should I discuss this season

Every season I put together a list of potential topics that I can do for the season to fulfill my media spot requirements. I find that by producing a running topic it makes it easier for me to put together the required document at the correct word length. As I don’t really like repeating topics, I am going to start by discussing some of the topics I have done just in case they can encourage someone else.

I have done a series on my players touring their new team's city, in that case it was London England. I have done a series on running a box at the stadium and inviting various charities which allowed me to discuss some very worthwhile organizations, last season I did a series on my thoughts as a first season GM. Oh year I almost forgot one of my favorite topics and that was my VHL article series called Simon WTF, where I discussed odd things that came out of the sims. There were others during various seasons, but I have forgotten them.

So, what will I look at doing this season let me list some options:

Countdown to season 100: okay I know this is not going to be my topic as I really know extraordinarily little about the history of the VHL, but it would be neat to see a 10-piece series where someone provides the greatest moment in each decade of seasons and covers the history of the league. It could be a serious piece or a lighthearted piece (dumbest forum quotes of the last hundred seasons). Someone could really have fun with this one, but it won’t be me.

A review of Davos from a prospect's perspective: this would give me a chance to pay attention to Davos games while not on the team and discuss/review how the team is doing from an outside perspective. It would allow Felicia Hardy to get to know the players they will be playing with and hopefully learn to integrate into the system.

I can do a comparative review of friends/competitors Felicia Hardy and Jillian Woods: Noting that at this point Felicia has the upper hand as the Founders Cup Champion even though Jillian had the better production record (only because Felicia lost 4 games due to a trade). Who will have the better season production, who will lead their team farther? Will one of them raise the trophy again this season? There is so much here to unpack.

So as my last option I am going to put out some random stats that I make up as a target for my player over the season and then see if they come true: I kind of did a version of this with Molly the Cat but it was a countdown to greatness, the quest to become the highest goal scorer in London history which oddly enough came true. SO I will look at putting together a one season quest for stats, goals, assists, points, hits, blocks, etc and see how many of them I can achieve.

Not sure yet which one I will pick but by this time next week I will release the new season of Media spots.

  20. Felicia Hardy heads to Europe

Well, the draft is over, and Felicia Hardy is incredibly happy with the outcome. Not only did Felicia go in the top 10 picks in the draft, but they also went to two very promising locations. In the VHLE Felicia Hardy will be Playing with the Stockholm Vikings along with some other talented young players like Johnny Tsumani and Lazlo Holmes. Having finished the VHLM season and winning the championship with Lazlo Holmes may mean these players already have chemistry on the ice.

In the VHL draft Felicia went to HC Davos where they will add depth to the defensive core that will hopefully allow the team to make the leap back to competitive form. Felicia Hardy is excited to join the team and play with veteran players like Sunset Moth, Grimgor Ironhide and Forum Content.

When asked about the opportunity to learn from players on both teams Felicia Hardy had the following to say:

“I have been watching VHL hockey since I was a child, and I was able to sit in my father’s lap. I grew up with the names of the players that I am now going to skate with. To be able to train with them, work out with them, learn from them is beyond my wildest imagination, and yet it is the reality I am faced with.”

Felicia Hardy will be taking some time during this offseason to go to Europe and meet both GM’s, take some time to skate on the ice with each team and to meet their new teammates and then settle into accommodations in Stockholm.

  21. Post Draft Interview with Felicia Hardy

While there is a lull between picks in first round of the VHL season 94 draft we wanted to take a moment to sit and talk with Felicia Hardy who was taken sixth overall by HC Davos.

Felicia, thanks for agreeing to talk with us, how are you feeling about being taken sixth overall?

Honestly, the VHL is the premier hockey league in the world, anyone who gets drafted is among the top talent anywhere. I know I personally played with several players who accepted entry into lesser leagues like the NHL just so they could continue their careers. Yes, we all dream of being drafted first overall but if you look at the draft board so far there are now seven players listed who are exceptional players and there are still a list more waiting for their name to be called that in any other draft would have gone first overall. So overall I am happy with sixth, but more importantly I am looking forward to signing with and playing for Davos.

Speaking of Davos, can you elaborate on the process that got you there?

I had several interactions with the GM prior to the draft. They had a well thought out plan that was designed to allow them to be competitive within the league for several seasons. They knew exactly what they were looking for. I liked the fact that they were honest about where they were sitting and that they were going to need to adjust depending on how this draft went. I was given the assurance that I was their top choice for Defender, and we would need to see how things progressed.

What do you think you bring to Davos that will help them be competitive?

The focus of my training is on being a defensively minded defender, I know I still have a lot to work on, but I expect that I will integrate into the team structure well in a couple seasons. That being said, I also have spent a lot of time focusing on the passing side of my game, to facilitate zone entry and exit but I have also found that it helps immensely in the offensive zone to assist in setting up plays. We will see how that plays out in the overall game. Either way I know I am going to get a lot of opportunities to work with the training staff in Davos so that I can elevate my game. I am also working on a lot of off ice things to improve my strength with the puck and my endurance. I am excited by this opportunity.

Felicia, I want to thank you for your time tonight. We look forward to watching you this coming season in the VHLE and look forward to the VHLE Draft on Monday night. We expect that you will have an exceptional season and we look forward to seeing more of you as the seasons progress. Good luck in the draft Monday and in Season 94.
