  1. Article Review: I love this article, not from a perspective of having anything against this player or the Seattle Bears, but this article expresses the players internal tension about the situation they are in. Sitting knowing that your potential playoff situation sits with someone other than yourself. Yes, Seattle needs to win but even then it may not be enough. New York must loose. The satire of this review is that New York plays both those games against the London United. My performance in this next Sim may directly impact this player and their chances in making the playoffs, Good luck, hopefully I can help you in some small way achieve your dream of playoff hockey. I give this article an 9/10
  2. Article Review: dogwoodmaple always puts together great articles from the players perspective. End of season is a natural timeframe to do an interview of this nature, a look back over the season, a look at accomplishments and a look to the future. Congrats on a strong season with Vancouver, good luck in the playoffs, maybe we will meet up in the finals. Hopefully your wish to be a one team player holds up, I know that salary cap issues can sometimes push GM into making decisions they normally wouldn't. I give this article a 8/10.
  3. Week of December 25 2022 1) How do you feel about your play during the regular season? 2) Why do you think there was more scoring this season than last, in general? 3) What are your plans for the offseason? 4) If you will have another season, do you think you will do better, worse or about the same from a points perspective? 5) When your player retires, what do they plan to do? 6) What is one thing that happened this season that you are proud of?
  4. As the regular season ends, we look back over the success of the Litter Box program. It has been a wonderful year with many fantastic children getting to come to the London Arena to enjoy a game of hockey. We have also had the opportunity to spotlight some amazing charities and the excellent work they do to assist children across the globe. This week is no different. The children who have been able to come join the litter box program this week are all incredibly special children. All of them have been put forward by the National Autism Society. Each child this week experiences a level of neurodivergence. Many would classify them as high functioning Autistic individuals. The National Autism Society of the UK Over the last 60 years the National Autism Society has worked diligently to assist over 700,000 autistic people and their families. They do this by running specialist schools, campaigns for improved rights or by providing training to companies to assist them in being better equipped to work with and serve those with autism. They are expressly dedicated to transforming lives and changing attitudes. When assisting with children with Autism, one specific program is the Cullum Centres. Thanks to generous financial support from the Cullum Family Trust, the National Autistic Society together with partner Local Educational Authorities are developing purpose-designed and built specialist centres in schools across the UK. The Centres will provide specialist support from trained staff, such as learning in small groups and therapies within a calm setting to retreat to while having the opportunity to regularly engage in typical mainstream school activities as appropriate for each student. The results of this program on the lives of these impacted children are spectacular. If you would like to get involved with or donate to the National Autism Society of the UK you can contact them through their website National Autistic Society (autism.org.uk). You can also get involved in other autism societies throughout the world by contacting your local Autistic Association. Astrid Francis Astrid was a particularly bright addition to the children that came this week. She always had a wonderfully uplifting smile and took part in various activities. Astrid brought with her Puddles, her Service Dog, who was extremely professional and was always there to do his job. Astrid was diagnosed with Autism at 2, she was slow to develop her verbal abilities, and her parents were concerned. Astrid was quickly brought into several programs offered by the Autism Society and quickly started to expand on her abilities. Today, after numerous years of working with a speech therapist, Astrid communicates freely with everyone. I had the chance to sit with Astrid, Puddles and Astrid’s parents during the second intermission to ask some questions. Astrid wanted to tell everyone how much fun the Litter box program is, although she was glad, she didn’t have to sit in a litter box with cat poop. She expressed how well everyone was treating her and Puddles, she was extremely happy that Puddles got to join in the experience because Puddles goes with her everywhere. Astrid’s parents wanted to thank Moly the Cat and the London organization for their generosity, their patience, and their dedication to making an experience like this available to someone who wouldn’t be a typical attendee of a hockey game. By having a dedicated box, it allowed them to provide a safe place for Astrid to experience something new like the hockey game. This will be the last article this year about the Litter Box program, it was a pleasure for me to take part in the experience with the children and their caregivers, to enjoy the games, and to meet some fantastic individuals. It was also a wonderful experience to cover some great charities and the wonderful work they do.
  5. I joined the VHL community in April of 2022. As such I am coming to the end of the first calendar year being involved. I thought it would be a good thing to take the opportunity to thank some of the people who have been involved in my journey. First, I want to thank the GM and AGM I have had. Each of you has provided something different to the experience. From answering a billion questions and helping me learn the first steps of building a character, to helping me build independence and in pursuing TPE, to encouraging and supporting me through the journey. Second, I want to thank the Board of Governors for the tireless work they do behind the scenes to make sure things run smoothly, to taking on the hard job of monitoring the league and making sure it is running as expected, to ensuring everyone is doing the jobs they have. Third, to those who tirelessly do their jobs day in and day out, the simmers, the Task updates, the player store updaters and everyone else who I haven’t interacted with but keep this system running. You don’t have an easy job. Lastly, I want to thank those who just take part. To the people who come to enjoy themselves, to build relationships and to experience their player’s career. I especially want to thank those who put out great content, who build their player’s life and not just punch buttons to put out content to get their TPE. Thanks for sharing your creativity and your enthusiasm. I am looking forward to 2023 and seeing how this moves forward.

  11. Article review: This article made me picture Todd Cooke going to the mall in his full equipment, standing in line at the Santa Claus North Pole exhibit waiting his turn to sit on Santa's lap waiting for his turn to tell Santa what he wanted for Christmas. I think it was every young boys dream to get something he asked Santa for and every boys dream to play professional hockey. It is an image that made me laugh so I am going to give this article a 8/10. Hopefully Santa grants your request, if not I guess you will need to keep pushing that TPE. Good luck for the rest of the season. Soot for your dreams.
  12. Article review:What a fun article, I always like reading about the non-hockey related aspects of players lives. I wouldn't suggest doing it but this article may be more fun if each letter was written in a different colour as if they were Christmas lights stung up against the side of the house. Even more props would be given if the colour coding spelled something, maybe just Maple, but that would be an epic post about Christmas lights. As is I will give it a 9/10 for creativity and a 7/10 for execution. A picture would also have been helpful.
  13. Week of Dec 18 2022 1) What is the best gift your player has ever received? 2) What is the best gift your player has ever given? 3) We currently sit in 5th in the European division, will we improve by season end? 4) Did you sign up for the VHFL, how are you doing so far, and ho was your most disappointing pick? 5) Daniel Janser has dropped to second in points, will they surpass Baby Bob before the end of the year? 6) London's game play seems to be improving, will we take that momentum into the playoffs and win our first round matchup?
  14. Another article was written this week on which VHL division is better, the European division or the North American Division. I expect it will be a long-standing argument by people from either side, but could a framework be built to evaluate the discussion and provide a factual quantitative framework to it? Offensive output: As would be expected the first area that would naturally be evaluated would be the offensive output for each division. This would need to be done at multiple levels including output by top performers, total goals scored by each division, offensive output by non-peak performers but what might be the best analysis would be offensive output related to games played against the other division. If someone could accumulate the number of goals scored by each division in only inter-divisionally played games that would provide a comparative analysis that would exclude the concept of one division that has potentially weaker teams. Offensive Strength: Outside of pure goal and assist analysis we need to look at the depth of play by offensive players so looking at face off wins in total and inter-divisionally would be needed to assess secondary offensive strength. Defensive Strength: As much as goals for and goals against tells some of the story it does not provide a level of depth that the analysis needs from a defensive perspective. If we could get total body checks and total blocked shots for each division and then those same stats in relation to games played inter-divisionally that would allow for some analysis on the impact that defensive strength plays on each division. Goalie Depth: An analysis of top performing goalies with analysis of comparative GAA and SV% would be needed, then gathering those same statistics on a total division basis and then inter-divisionally would allow for a true review of which division has the stronger goalies. Team Discipline and Special Teams: Lastly a review of Penalty minutes taken would allow for a review of team discipline, compare that with points scored both shorthanded and on the power play, would allow for an analysis of special teams. If those numbers could be derived from inter-division games, that would allow comparative analysis of each division's strength in those areas. Team Record and Championship Won: Lastly the overall statistics of inter-divisional games won and most importantly who won the championship need to play a factor in determining the best conference. At the end of the day this sport is about winning games and winning championships I think I have provided a framework to complete an adequate analysis of the VHL divisions, if somebody could do the actual work, we could finally answer the question of who the better division is.
  15. This week Molly the Cat is hosting children who work with the London chapter of the Down’s Syndrome Association. The Down’s Syndrome Association is a nationally recognized organization who is committed to improving the quality of life for people who have Down’s Syndrome, promoting their right to be included on a full and equal basis with others. The Association has representation across England, Wales and Northern Ireland and works hard to provide a variety of services including rights advocacy, training and support to parents and caregivers of individuals who have Down’s Syndrome, to providing information and training to Professionals such as Doctors, Therapists, and Social Workers. Lastly, they provide numerous support services for individuals living with Down’s Syndrome to allow them to be independent and productive members of their community. Specifically, this week we were assisting a group of teenagers who love hockey to come out to one of the games that London had and to give them an experience they will never forget. The children ranged from 13 to 18 years of age. Each attendee could bring 3 guests to the game, so we had several parents and siblings in attendance as well. In addition to the normal accommodation, meals and game access, the attendees got to take part in a morning skate and have pre-game dinner with the team in the arena dining room. Each attendee also received a signed game-worn jersey from their favorite player and other memorabilia. Everyone had a wonderful time. One of the attendees, eighteen-year-old Thomas Russell is an outgoing young adult. His eighteenth birthday was the night of his game. Thomas will be finishing his schooling this year and will be taking a year to travel England with his sister Kayla before he looks to attend university to become a social worker. Thomas would like to work for the Down’s Syndrome Association assisting individuals’ transition to work and independent living. We had the opportunity to sit with Russell between periods of the game to talk about his experience. “I want to thank everyone who is involved in bringing all these people to the game. We had so much fun skating with the team, spending the night at the hotel and getting to travel the city. Sitting and having dinner with the team was also neat, getting to see what they ate before the game. I got to sit with Jerome Reinhart; he is so nice and a talented player too. He let me ask him lots of questions and told me some of his secret plays, but I can’t tell you what they are as they are secrets. The game has been exciting so far, we are hoping that London wins, but it is nice to be able to come out and watch from this great box. Thank you for having me here. As a sports article writer we spend considerable time talking to players, coaches, managers, and team owners about the teams they are associated with. However, over this last year as I have been able to take time to sit with the various children, young fans of the sport, I must admit it has been refreshing to get an unfamiliar perspective. If you would like to donate to the work that the Down’s Syndrome association is doing or if you would like more information about the services provided, please go to their website at WWW.downs-sndrome.org.uk
  16. If you look at the goals against for goalies in the league, 6 of the 8 worst offenders are in the NA division. Allowing talented goal scores in the NA Division an easier time in getting points.
  17. To all the new dads take a moment to enjoy it, what you have right now won't last long, it does go by very quickly, mine is going to be 22 soon. Also note it goes by quickly, so all the things that cause issue (sleepless nights, additional costs of diapers, etc) will be gone before you know it. I luckily was able to enjoy something from every stage, including new experiences like sharing recreational activities like the VHL. Word of warning, every milestone you want them to achieve has it's own struggles. Walking quickly turns to running away from you, talking quickly turns to talking back and determination quickly turns to stubbornness. Enjoy your journey.
  18. It was said earlier that if the VHLM GM aren't doing mentoring they shouldn't have their job. I fully agree with this and was lucky myself to have a great GM/AGM duo in Frank and Jacob when I entered the league. My question is, do we keep any sort of statistics, evaluation of GM at any level (I fully agree with the implication that the various GM's really do have different jobs, and that is why they are paid differently and should be evaluated differently) But do the various commissioners look at multi year trends for the GM, such as stats on first Gen retention, trade evaluations, free agent signing evaluations, team performance records (average team placement by the year). Do the commissioners do exit interviews with a sampling of players to get an experiential evaluation of how a GM helped/hindered a player. If the discussion is that these are jobs and people are being paid (through TPE) for their job, then a level of job evaluation shouldn't be out of the question. Noting that GM should be told and know how they are being evaluated before being held to any standard.
  19. Article Review: Any article that garners this much positive attention deserves a great ranking regardless of the topic. Putting in my own 2 cents on this, my wife aways makes me watch the Holiday, but honestly Jack Black makes the movie, especially the scene in the Blockbuster. My childhood favourite which you can no longer buy legally is Muppet Family Christmas. it was pulled from the airways due to copywrite issues but if you can find it in the dark recesses of the internet I highly recommend it. We need many more articles of this nature on here, it is upbeat, from the players perspective and is absolutely funny. 10/10 great work.
  20. As a first gen player I find this article very interesting for a number of reasons. 1) I have always had the theory that players who join the league as a result of a referral from a current player are more engaged. I can't prove my theory, but this article supports the hypothesis. 2) It gives me some backstory of the league as a whole from a player who has considerable time spent here. 3) Although I am sure that Orbiting Death has seen and been involved in numerous negative experiences, the article remains hopeful and encouraging for first gen players like myself. Well done, I'm giving this article 9/10
