To all the new dads take a moment to enjoy it, what you have right now won't last long, it does go by very quickly, mine is going to be 22 soon. Also note it goes by quickly, so all the things that cause issue (sleepless nights, additional costs of diapers, etc) will be gone before you know it. I luckily was able to enjoy something from every stage, including new experiences like sharing recreational activities like the VHL. Word of warning, every milestone you want them to achieve has it's own struggles. Walking quickly turns to running away from you, talking quickly turns to talking back and determination quickly turns to stubbornness. Enjoy your journey.

It was said earlier that if the VHLM GM aren't doing mentoring they shouldn't have their job. I fully agree with this and was lucky myself to have a great GM/AGM duo in Frank and Jacob when I entered the league. My question is, do we keep any sort of statistics, evaluation of GM at any level (I fully agree with the implication that the various GM's really do have different jobs, and that is why they are paid differently and should be evaluated differently) But do the various commissioners look at multi year trends for the GM, such as stats on first Gen retention, trade evaluations, free agent signing evaluations, team performance records (average team placement by the year). Do the commissioners do exit interviews with a sampling of players to get an experiential evaluation of how a GM helped/hindered a player. If the discussion is that these are jobs and people are being paid (through TPE) for their job, then a level of job evaluation shouldn't be out of the question. Noting that GM should be told and know how they are being evaluated before being held to any standard.

Article Review: Any article that garners this much positive attention deserves a great ranking regardless of the topic. Putting in my own 2 cents on this, my wife aways makes me watch the Holiday, but honestly Jack Black makes the movie, especially the scene in the Blockbuster. My childhood favourite which you can no longer buy legally is Muppet Family Christmas. it was pulled from the airways due to copywrite issues but if you can find it in the dark recesses of the internet I highly recommend it. We need many more articles of this nature on here, it is upbeat, from the players perspective and is absolutely funny. 10/10 great work.

As a first gen player I find this article very interesting for a number of reasons. 1) I have always had the theory that players who join the league as a result of a referral from a current player are more engaged. I can't prove my theory, but this article supports the hypothesis. 2) It gives me some backstory of the league as a whole from a player who has considerable time spent here. 3) Although I am sure that Orbiting Death has seen and been involved in numerous negative experiences, the article remains hopeful and encouraging for first gen players like myself. Well done, I'm giving this article 9/10

Theme Week, First Generation Player: Molly the Cat This media spot will be a summary of my experience as a First-Generation Player from a perspective of the management experience and not specifically a record of how the player has done themselves. My introduction to VHL was a result of my son's referral. He has been involved for a period and was looking at ways to bolster his TPE on his current player. He asked if I would join and play long enough to reach the required milestones for him to achieve the TPE referral bonuses. Trying to be a good father I agreed and created my character. I quickly received the mad rush of contacts trying to recruit me to various teams (the adjustments made to this process were much needed). As my son was AGM of the San Diego Marlins at that point, I joined them to make conversations about the experience easier. I had a lot of questions that first year, many of them about how to build a character but many others about how to find information on the Forum and/or the Portal. Simply put I learned that the system of information storage has changed over the years as different updates have occurred and I do not ever expect to understand it. Which explains why I hate VHL trivia. My second season I got to experience the draft process and the post draft review by various members of the league. Having gone through an entire season, I thought I learned something and drafted articles about different frustration points within the system. I will say that on a positive note I received answers to those articles from various members of the community. Some of the answers did rub the wrong way, note when you start your answer with every first-generation player asks this question. That should be a clue that either it should be addressed, or it is something the VHLM GM should discuss in their chat rooms so that the topic can be addressed before it becomes a forum issue. My third season I may have given up on trying to fix the league (that sounds funny to me now) and spent most of the season focused on building my player to be the best it could be. I had the focus of wanting to win the Rookie of the Year award, which I am proud to say I am the Season 85 winner of the Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy. (Based on the Season 84 draft review I would not have been the top contender for this award). The other interesting part of my Rookie VHL season was that I was named Captain of the London United, which were expected to be in a rebuild year. As a First-Generation player it was a unique experience being Captain of the team when so many more qualified players were around. So, I did the best I could and decided that the best thing I had to offer was my excitement level which has not worn off over time. I also took over writing the teams press conferences and trying to encourage TPE production by linking items like the VHFL link and weekly fantasy questions to discord so they can be found easier. My fourth and current season has been a struggle from a perspective of pressing for TPE growth. The constant cycle of writing articles, media spots and reviews (I am now avoiding trivia) to get the maximum allowed weekly TPE is becoming a chore. I have tried to address this by creating my own theme for the year (The Litter Box Foundation) which has allowed me to include research on deserving charities and bring to light childhood issues by using fictional people to reveal actual issues. So that has been my experience so far. I know I still have new things to experience (Depreciation, recreating a player) and potentially one day I may even apply for a job. But I am not going to get ahead of myself on that.

I must admit I love theme week. The ability to write about a topic you do not need to produce and who does not like extra TPE. There is one piece of theme week that does bother me slightly and that is the timing on the announcement. I know it really should not bother me, but I am a creature of habit and well must admit it fits best in my schedule to sit down and draft my articles and media spots for the week on Sunday afternoons. That means when we hit Theme week, I have typically already posted my media spot for the week and must wait until the next week to gain the extra TPE. Now with this season Theme week has nicely been put into the upcoming events so I noticed it. (In all honesty I will admit that I do not know if it has been posted in past seasons and I just missed it or if this is something new this season) So I am grateful that I had some advanced warning this season and have been able to postpone my writing. It would be nice for those of us who do write early in the week to get some advance notice of the theme week topic. If it could be posted the Saturday or Sunday before the week so that people could plan and organize what they want to write about. All honesty, I would not even mind if the requirements increased slightly as we are getting extra TPE, not suggesting a massive increase but say 750 words for the increased TPE. Al this said I am not expecting anyone to change anything for me. Yet we all would like things to be done the way we want them so I figured I would put this out there.

1) I attended a work Holiday party recently, what should London United do to celebrate this Holiday Season? 2) Our Goalie Tandem currently has 3 shut outs this season, how many will they have by season end? 3) Yun Chiang is having a breakout season, how many points will they finish with (regular season total)? 4) The league currently has a number of players on pace for 100-point seasons, how many will achieve that by year end? 5) Daniel Janser currently holds the spot for highest points so far this season with 66, will they end the season in top spot? 6) Do you like Egg Nog? I have found this to be a controversial question? Almost ranks up there with the Pineapple on Pizza discussion?

Okay I will give the fact that the author is excited that both his VHL player and his role as GM are producing great seasons. I expect that as GM, Jacob has spent significant time trying to position his team for victory, taking this last opportunity to position trades and free agents to build what may be the last overweight team. The recent rule changes about draft pick trades and the new free agent system may make a super team impossible going forward. Good luck with your season it may be your only opportunity to win a cup. Landon has been building steadily towards this spot and has at times underperformed. It looks like this sesaon is falling into place. Good luck, hopefully it works out. This article gets an 8/10,

A tale of two Brothers // A Captain's disclaimer
JCarson replied to Daniel Janser's topic in VHL.com Articles
I always love the posts about the Janser brothers but this one adds another twist to the story. As captain of any team, especially one with a high level of media coverage there comes a point where you are going to either call out a player or stand up for a player. In this instance the captain takes the opportunity to stand up for one of his top defenders. There will always be a time when the productivity on the score board may be lacking, that doesn't mean the player isn't contributing to the game and team as a whole. Great article, keep up the great work. 9/10 on this one. Looking forward to seeing what come next. -
Press Conference Week of Dec 4 2022. 1) Which player on the team do you think will score the most goals this week? 2) Do you think Dil should be looking at making a trade to improve our performance? 3) How many players on the team will have a point per game season this year? 4) Do you treat Simon as some sort of oppressive Hockey God who needs your attention and sacrifices? 5) Do you tend to earn more TPE when your player is performing well, or in response to poor performance? 6) Which team do you hate to play the most, and why?

VHL European Conference Depending on the team the VHL is somewhere between 24 and 26 games, which is about 1/3 of the way through the season. At this point it looks like there is becoming a division between the top five teams and the rest. Now, please do not get me wrong, I fully understand that anything can happen, I would not suggest at this point that there is a team that is out of playoff contention, but it does look like the gap is widening which will make it more difficult for the bottom teams to push back into the playoff race. As of 11:30am EST Sunday Nov 27, 2022, when I am writing this the standings look as follows: HC Davos with 35 points Warsaw and Prague have 33 points Moscow has 29 points London has 28 points Helsinki has 22 points Malmo has 20 points Riga has 17 points What will be interesting to see over the remaining 2/3 of the season is how the race for 1st in the European conference plays out and how the race for 3rd plays out. The other point of interest will be the scoring differential. Currently HC Davos sitting in first place has 67 goals for and 61 goals against. While Warsaw, who sits in second place, has 89 goals for and 67 goals against. Prague, who holds third place, has 85 goals for and 73 goals against. It looks like Prague and Warsaw are having an easier time scoring and this may assist them in pushing HC Davos out of first place by season end. On the other hand, HC Davos is doing well at controlling other teams' scoring and may secure first place because of their defensive prowess. All that said I am not writing either Moscow or London off at this point, either of them could have a surge in production and could easily push their way up the standings. This is shaping up to be a great VHL season.

We had the chance to sit with Molly the Cat and talk about this week’s Litter Box attendees and the charity that was instrumental in arranging children for the games. I want to take a moment to thank you for covering the details of the Litter Box attendees each week. There are so many deserving children out there that for so many reasons do not get to experience what a lot of us take for granted. This week in addition to the general events of the Litter Box experience we wanted to go a step further and help these children experience what it is like to be a hockey player. This week’s attendees to the Litter Box are all amputee children so to assist them in experiencing hockey personally we took the opportunity to get them all fitted with skates, and/or skate prosthetics so that they could join the team on the ice for a practice. I was happy to team up with the Canadian Chapter of War Amps to bring some children from my home country to the London United games. War Amps War Amps was founded in 1918 by amputee war veterans returning home after the First World War. Since 1918 the programs and services that War Amps provides has grown and now includes, War Amps aims and objectives are to: 1) Provide financial assistance to amputees for their artificial limbs 2) Educate amputees with information on artificial limbs and all aspects of living with amputation 3) Encourage child amputees to develop a positive approach to amputation through comprehensive programs including tools for future independence 4) Assist war amputees and seriously disabled veterans access pension benefits and wellness programs 5) Advocate for the rights and interests of all amputees 6) Employ amputees and others with disabilities at the Key Tag Service sheltered workshop and throughout the Association 7) Serve the public through the Key Tag Service, PLAYSAFE™ and DRIVESAFE™ programs and Operation Legacy initiatives War Amps does not rely on government funding to operate, it raises funds through public support of the Key Tag Service and through private donations. If this is a cause that you are interested in, please feel free to donate and help them with their life altering services. You can find out more about them by going to waramps.ca. Andrea Jansen Andrea is a 13-year-old from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She is a typical young teenager who unfortunately lost her leg in a bicycle accident when she was nine. Andrea was cycling with her two friends on her quiet street when a truck turned around the corner at high speed and ran directly into the group. Two of the girls were killed instantly, Andrea and her bike were tossed to the side, Andrea’s leg was severely mangled and had to be amputated just above the knee. The net couple of years were very tough for Andrea as she had to learn to cope with the loss of her two best friends, and with functioning with only one leg. The War Amps organization stepped in to help with funding for an artificial leg and helping her through the physiotherapy required to use it properly. They also assisted in arranging treatment relating to the trauma she endured. Andrea and her family have become advocates for the War Amps organization, travelling around the country to do speaking events. Andrea also supports Student’s Against Druck Driving as unfortunately the person driving the vehicle that killed her friends and injured her was drunk at the time.

@BarzalGoatwill the tracking spreadsheet be available shortly. I am assuming that all the groups have finished picking players. Just as a side note, whoever was responsible for building that spreadsheet needs to receive some credit, great work, well done.

That trend with people stepping down from VHLM GM
JCarson replied to Shindigs's topic in VHL.com Articles
As a quick review of this article: I like the fact that the author is being completely honest about how they are feeling with the change in position. I have never been a GM so don't know the difficulties associated with the role. But i have had enough conversations with individuals that are getting job pay to realize that it can be very difficult for them to write media spots, articles and other piece to earn TPE. There is numerous aspects of this VHL experience and the constant parade of TPE earning can begin to become a challenge. For anyone dedicated to being a full TPE earner I want to acknowledge your dedication to what you do. Keep going. Give this article a 10/10, purely out of respect for the honesty. -
This is a great article. You can connect with the young player getting their first foray into the league. You can feel the angst, the passion and the anticipation of what has occurred and what is to come. For a young goalie that is expected to play the entirety of the first season in the VHL as a backup has to be rough as they may only see 8-10 games out of 72. To keep connected with the team and with the league, in order to keep producing TPE has to be a dedication. Keep pushing Aimkin, you are doing well. Keep the TPE going and you will be the top goalie very soon. I give this article a 9/10

Week of Nov 27 2022 1) We are starting week 2 of the regular season, does London win more or less games than last week? 2) Do you expect your player to have more than 10 points this week? 3) Which player on the team do you expect to have the most points by season end? 4) After 13 games we are in 4th place in our conference, do you expect we will be higher or lower than that by the end of the week? 5) Will Velociraptor Greg get a goal this week? 6) Do you read posts by your other team members. Who writes the best articles?

The Victory Hockey Fantast League is a fantastic addition to the general VHL experience. It allows players to connect with a small group of other members in a semi competitive group and is an additional way to earn TPE during the season. I am currently experiencing my third draft process and it has been unique and because of that it has made me think about it. I am not sure I have any grand thoughts or even improvements but more some questions. Maybe it is because the regular season was moved up by 2 days, but this season's VHFL draft seems to be pushing into the season. Meaning that the first few picks were made with little information, but later picks are being made with improved knowledge as games have been played. Or it could be the fact that in my grouping we have had several large gaps between picks. To the point we had one person disqualified in their first 2 picks (which happened to be pick 6 and 7) so we ended up going over 24 hours before a pick was completed. Maybe I didn’t pay attention in prior seasons. It could be I am just more conscious of the process now and the last 2 VHFL drafts I was in took about the same amount of time. And I just wasn’t paying attention. That could be it. Maybe it doesn’t matter. It could be that I am making more of this than I should. It is simply an add on piece to the experience that can result in 1-6 TPE depending on how you place. It means extraordinarily little in perspective of player TPE development so why am I concerned. Thanks for reading my ramblings on this topic.

The Litter Box is pleased to announce that this week they have partnered with the Make-a-Wish foundation to grant several children their wish to attend a London United Game. Molly the Cat and the London United are happy to be part of these children’s wishes. The ability to host the children, families and caregivers in the Litter Box is extremely humbling. We hope that everyone invited was able to enjoy the game and the hospitality of the city of London. Each child and their families received round trip flights, accommodations, meals a tour package of London, tickets to the game and a VIP package which includes signed team memorabilia a tour of the locker room and meet and greet session with some of the team. Organization: Make-a-Wish Since 1983, the Make-A-Wish foundation has created life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. They are on a quest to bring every eligible child's wish to life, because a wish is an integral part of a child's treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, Make-A-Wish is the world’s leading children’s wish-granting organization, serving children in every community, in more than 50 countries worldwide. If you would like to support Make-A-Wish foundation through volunteering, donating or even referring a child you can contact your local chapter of Make-A-Wish through their website. This organization helps thousands of children every year. Please consider reaching out and assisting in any way you can. Feature Child: Thomas Smith Thomas Smith, one of the children who was able to attend the game is currently battling Childhood Leukemia. Thomas is 14 years old and comes from Oxford, England. Thomas attended the game with his parents and his younger sister. Leukemia is the most common cancer in children and teens, accounting for almost 1 out of 3 cancers. Most childhood leukemias are acute lymphocytic leukemia. Most children who are receiving treatment for childhood leukemia go through a series of treatments including high dose chemotherapy and stem cell transplants. A stem cell transplant (SCT) (also known as a bone marrow transplant) can sometimes be used to help improve the chances of curing childhood leukemia. SCT lets doctors use even higher doses of chemotherapy than a child could normally tolerate. High-dose chemotherapy destroys the bone marrow, which is where leukemia starts, but it's also where new blood cells are formed. This could lead to life-threatening infections, bleeding, and other problems caused by low blood cell counts. A stem cell transplant is given after the chemo to restore the blood-forming stem cells in the bone marrow. The blood-forming stem cells used for a transplant can come either from the blood or from the bone marrow. Sometimes stem cells from a baby’s umbilical cord blood are used. If you would like more information about Cancer risks, diagnosis and treatment, please contact your local Cancer Society. If you would like to donate to assist in the treatment of children’s cancer, please contact your local children’s hospital or cancer center and make your donation.
