    1. I haven't been in the VHL "space" for very long, so I don't really know of any rivalries, so I got a do some research and try to come up with something.

    2. I'd probably have to pick another rookie so I guess maybe Nikolas Kauppi @Tetricide because we are both from the same draft class (S85), picked after one another, Larry at 16 and Nikolas at 17, and are currently one and two in rookie scoring.

    3. It's just one game, every team will have these types of games. I'd start getting worried if these types of games were happening constantly. Larry will just put the game behind him and get ready for the next one.

    4. I think Larry's favorite place to shoot the puck would probably be the five-hole, but he does love a good tip in goal.

    5. I don't really watch shows, I just watch sports and play video games.

    6. I'd have to go chicken fried chicken just because I have never had chicken fried steak.

RileyL reacted to VattghernCZ in The Stolzschweiger race is anything but close
The rookie of the year contest brings us exciting race every year, as we watch new blood writing the first pages if their legacy. Well...almost every year. This year, halfway through the season, the Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy is already pretty much decided. And has been for some time. Matt Murdock @Acydburn is taking the league by storm in their second VHL season, first as the Menace starting goaltender. They have started all 38 games, and holds 23-13-2 record with 0.930 SV% and 2.42 GAA. The save percentage ranks them second among all VHL goaltenders. Aidan Shaw Trophy would definitely look nice next to the Stolzschweiger Trophy, just saying.

But for a while, let's pretend there is an alternative universe without Matt Murdock. How would the rookie race look then? Let's catch up with the most prominent future runner ups.

Larry Abass Jr @RileyL is having quite a rookie season for them, building on a 45-goal 100-point VHLE campain. Playing on the first Wranglers line with Landon Wolanin and Daniel Janser might give their stats a little boost, but they definitely look like they belong, with 12 goals and 29 points in 38 games. Abass Jr is also a part of the Wranglers special teams, logging minutes on both power play and penalty kill, and with 11 powerplay points – 7 of which are goals – and 12 blocked shots, they are definitely playing a big part. They bring some physicality as well, utilizing their 6'3'' frame for 58 hits and getting in a fight already.

Nikolas Kauppi @Tetricide has been the best playmaker of this season's rookie class so far with 20 assists (of 29 points), being Saku Kotkakoivu's running mate on the second Phantoms line and supporting the team's powerplay with 3 goals and 4 assists. As of writing this, Kauppi is riding a 7-game point scoring streak, and they could definitely end the season as a top scoring rookie with a strong second half. They have already become a fan favorite thanks to their willingness to drop the gloves – five teams this season already. This might drive their coaches nuts, but it will definitely give them bonus points with teammates.

Daryl Dixon @Ricer13 has been an absolute animal, with 110 hits and a fight to their name. They have been an absolute nuisance you hate to play against, with their great defensive play and physicality. The -12 in their stats may not look the best for someone praised for their defensive play, but keep in mind Helsinki Titans team is at the bottom of the league, and you can't expect a single rookie to carry the team (unless the rookie's name is Matt Murdock, of course). Even when the rookie has scores 17 goals halfway through the season (leading all rookies).

Quinn Clark @axtron, the second highest scoring defenseman of the 86th VHLE season has joined the Toronto Legion team. So far, Clark has amassed very respectable 7 goals and 20 points on the struggling Legion squad and is the highest scoring rookie defenseman in the league. Though you can't blame a single player on a bottom feeding team for -19 rating, but to be fair, Clark has still some defensive shortcomings. They are an offensive weapon that's especially effective on man advantage – proven by 5 goals and 5 assists.

As said at the beginning, I think the ROTY award is already decided, but it will be interesting to see how the other rookies will fare nonetheless.

Hello, world! Welcome back to another episode of Between the Periods! I am Bobbus Dingus reunited once again with my good friend Nikolas Kauppi of the Prague Phantoms! This is his rookie year with the franchise and is already making heads turn. After today's games (10 February, 2023), he is currently in a 3-way-tie for first overall rookie points alongside Larry Abass Jr. @RileyL from the Calgary Wranglers and Daryl Dixon @Ricer13 from the Helsinki Titans. Nikolas, welcome back -- it's so good to see you! How do you feel you're doing in the VHL in general performance-wise?
Hey, Bob. You know, as much as you piss me off sometimes, it's good to see you too. As far as the VHL, man...at first it was super tough. It was a reality check on the talent I'm up against, and I gotta be honest it had my morale down in the dumps for a while. We made some line changes though and things have been on the up-and-up! Right now we're on a 3 game win streak. Our next couple games is a rematch against London and our first game against Chicago for the season. Overall, my performance as of late has been pretty good! I've had a couple pointless streaks, but I'm working on that too. One more thing...I keep telling everyone to stop telling me where I stand against the other rookies, so I'm telling you now too. Stop.

Yeesh! Noted, don't hype up Nikolas.. I've also watched the fights you've been involved in, which have been somewhat impressive! You've been in 5 so far this season, 1 of which you lost against CDS Leb @CDS_Lebfrom Toronto and the rest were draws. How exactly did that loss go down?
Heh...I knew this was gonna get brought up... Listen, I just remember chirping at the guy as soon as he got passed the puck and dude just had rage in his face. Came at me like a flying monkey and knocked me down. It was all pretty funny, actually. I kept chirping at him in the sin bin and he just sat there the whole 5 minutes staring into space. I think I was in his head the rest of the game.

Hah! A flying monkey! You crack me up! Let's see... You've got your first game winning goal this season, on a 5 game point streak, on a 10 game goal slump, and still looking for your first hat trick of the season! Any light at the end of that tunnel?
I've got to be honest, I don't really know. Some games I just get a few shots at that net, others not so much. It's a whole different atmosphere out here in the VHL and the expectations are much higher. I'm feeling good about our next couple of games though. Jason @Jason kranz is gonna set me up with a sweet pass and it's gonna be glorious to get out of that goal slump. The point streak is nice, but I'd like to score a few more before the season ends. We're almost halfway through it, so I'll probably end up with more than just a few more!

That's the spirit I like to see in you! How's the Prague locker room treating you?
It's pretty chill. It's also pretty awesome to play with my Mexico City Kings teammate Jason again. We've got this dude Velociraptor Greg @samx though... I dunno, dude gives me the creeps. Stares at you for a solid 10 seconds before making a weird, short screech noise. I'm not sure if it's a bit or they're just not all there in the head... Plays great on the ice though. Sometimes looks like they want to just rip someone's head off.

    Velociraptor...Greg? I--
Look, man. I'm not judging people by their names. I don't ask questions.

Ooookay.. Well, anything else you want to add before we wrap this up?
Yeah, when did you start finally wearing deodorant?
    Oh, you noticed!
You don't smell like a bag of onions. What is that, Old Spice?
It is! How...how did you kn--
Oh boy, we need to go shopping. Old Spice is nice and all, but you've got to up your game...

Right now?! Okay! Ladies and gentlemen, that's all we have for you on this episode of Between the Periods! We'll see you next week!
    Hurry up stinky boy!

CALGARY - When you think of the Calgary Wranglers, it's easy to think of established stars such as reigning VHL MVP Daniel Janser, Landon Wolanin, or Leandro Goncalves. However, General Manager Kris Rice is depending on two rookie forwards to back them up and provide crucial secondary scoring to keep Calgary rolling up to the top of the North American Conference.

Larry Abass Jr @RileyL has been among the VHL rookie leaders in points virtually the entire season thus far, with 18 points through 25 games so far. After scoring 100 points with the Vasteras Iron Eagles in Season 86, Abass Jr's scoring touch has carried over nicely to the pros, with ten goals, second amongst all VHL rookies. From the get-go, he has risen to the challenge and answered the call from Rice.

For Vincent Laroche-Gagnier @vincentlg2007, however, it didn’t start that way, however. It took time for him to record his first VHL point, and even longer to record his first VHL goal. However, despite making light of his struggles, Laroche-Gagnier has suddenly gotten red-hot for Calgary. His twelve points may not seem like much, but the vast majority of them have come within the last ten games he has played. After struggling to record his first goal, he now has five of them.

It seems as if what these rookies needed to excel was simply confidence, and if they have gained it, the Wranglers will be a dangerous opponent for any team this season.

The Wranglers have dressed in 23 encounters in the running regular season and show a record of 15-5-3 which puts them in the third seed of the NA conference and indeed the league. They are trailing Vancouver and LA by two and one point respectively, but both adversaries have a game in hand.
Since we last reported, all Wranglers have now a point to their names and Lindbergh has already four shutouts, as many as during his entire last season in Toronto. Larry Abbass Jr is now two points behind Daryl Dixon in the rookie points race, but is still in the competion to claim the coveted Stoltzschweiger.
Daniel has been put back to the first line with Wolanin as they seem to gel best, while Gonçalves has now taken over the task to mentor the rookie line. He is still leading the teams in hits, with Janser, Wolanin and Strasmore hot on his tail.
Speaking of the English non-Gentleman, he remains a regular visitor in the sin-bin and is in the top three most punished players of the league with 72 PIM on his record. The next highest penalized player is the Captain with 38 minutes.
From a +/- point of view, Justice and Dan lead the way in the internal scoreboard with +15, good enough for tied-3rd in the league. The former looks like to exceed his personal record in scoring if he can keep up the current pace.
AG is the usual offensive drive on the blue line with a point per game and a league-leading five game winners. He is also Calgary's number three in blocked shots, behind his more defensive minded brethren Strassy and Marcel.
The veteran Swiss back also looks to exceed his highest point total in the VHL as well, with the points mainly coming in form of assits. He is second behind Phil when it comes to barring shots.
VLG is the sniper of the bunch with a conversion rate of 12.2%, which puts him in the top ten of the league. One could only wish that the young winger would take a leap of faith more often, in line with Gretzky's quote: 'You miss every shot you do not take.'
Dan is back on top of the league in points, though not in goals. The latter tally is at the moment in ex-Wrangler Saku Kotkakoivu's hands with 18 goals to his name. The Swiss Center is also the most efficient player league-wide on the hash-marks, winning 61.09% of the face-offs. He also scored a regular season short-hander for the first time since the S83 campaign, illustrating once more, that the Rotkreuz Phenomenon is dangerous in any situation.

All in all with the rookies finding there steps and improving from week to week, and the veteran players stepping up to the plate, it looks like Calgary is a contender again for this season. A view which is shared by hockey's most prolific news outlet VSN (see link to their respective article). Reference in same is especially made to the S83 draft class, when GM Kris Rice secured three first round pick and acquired a franchise quarter back in AirRig GoodBrandSun, a generational left Winger in Landon Wolanin and a center who would play first line minutes in half of the league but never complains about being the number two behind Janser. This 'team first' attitude is maybe even more valuable than his raw talent, which is undeniably on an elite level.

Please find for good order's sake the Jansers' updated stats:
    Marcel: 23gp, 1g, 16a, 17pts, +12, 28 PIM, 29 hits, 48sb, 1ppg
    Daniel: 23gp, 15g, 21a, 36pts, +15, 38 PIM, 68 hits, 9sb, 2gwg, 1ppg, 1shg, 61.09FO%, 3 First Star nominations

RileyL reacted to Alex in VSN Presents: The Draft That Built The Future: A Calgary Wranglers Story
The season 86 Victory Cup winner, The Calgary Wranglers have become a powerhouse in the VHL. While the team is home to superstar forward Daniel Janser @Daniel Janser, the 8th overall pick in the season 81 draft, a couple seasons later, there is one distinct day in which Calgary transformed from a playoff hopeful to a true contender, April 6th; the Season 83 VHL Draft!

Coming into this draft Calgary held only 1 first round pick, 10th overall. Then GM @Ricer13 got busy and made a series of trades to move up in the draft and pick up 2 more firsts for veteran players. The first domino to fall was a big one as Calgary traded Erlantz Jokinen @jRuutu and Gustislav Nasherov @Vat to Helsinki in exchange for Bob Chicoine @PoignardLeclerc11, Lenny Sanderson @Gally, the season 83 Seattle 1st (9th overall), the season 84 Helsinki 2nd, and the season 84 Helsinki 3rd. Shortly after Calgary would trade Reylynn Reinhart @Ricer13 to Prague in exchange for Riga’s season 83 1st (13th overall). Lasty, Calgary would move up from their own 1st as they would trade it and the previously acquired season 84 Helsinki 2nd to New York in exchange for the 5th overall pick.

With Vancouver trading away Erlantz Jokinen they were in need of a number 1 defensemen, and they addressed that with their 5th overall pick in AirRig GoodBrandSun @Rhynex Entertainment. GoodBrandSun was exactly what Calgary needed as they would hit the ground running and post a ridiculous season right away which would see them take home the Jake Wylde Trophy as the leagues top defensive defensemen. After a slight sophomore slump which saw them record only 34 points, GoodBrandSun hit the ground running in season 85 and has never looked back. To date GoodBrandSun has recorded an impressive 61 goals and 228 assists for a total of 289 points in 305 career games. Furthermore they have shined on the defensive side of the puck with 530 hots and 638 shots blocked.

After drafting GoodBrandSun at 5th overall, GM Ricer had his eyes set on a pair of forwards that would truly make Calgary’s offense a force to be reckoned with. The first one off of the board was Leandro Goncalves @leandrofg, the 9th overall pick. Gonclaves would spend season 83 in the VHLE with Vasteras, where you would post a nice 69 points in 72 games played. Upon coming up to the VHL, Goncalves had a very respectable rookie season with 24 goals and 18 assists. Unlike GoodBrandSun, Gonclaves took a huge step forward in their 2nd season and has been over a point per game since then and has amassed 102 goals and 115 assists for a total of 217 points in 233 games played. In Season 86 Goncalves really stepped up their physical game as they jumped from 55 hits in Season 85, to 184 in 86.

With Calgary’s final selection in the Season 83 1st round, Calgary selected Landon Wolanin @jacobcarson877 at 13th overall. Wolanin would spend Season 83 in the VHLE with Istanbul where he would have a above average season with 24 goals and 31 assists for 55 points. Upon coming to the VHL Wolanin would make strides forward each and every season, in their rookie season Wolanin posted 23 goals and 22 assists for 45 points and has followed that up with 87, and 99 points in seasons 85 and 86 respectively. Currently Wolanin has 20 points in 17 games this season. We can look for Wolanin to hopefully continue their progression and cross the 100 point mark this season.

Calgary has continued to build around these players with more recent draft picks in Phil Strasmore @Phil, Sax Justice @Eso, Larry Abass Jr @RileyL, and Vincent Laroche-Gagnier @vincentlg2007. This Calgary team truly has a bright future and will look to finally capture the elusive Continental Cup this season having finally solved issues in goal by brining in VHL veteran Oskar Lindbergh @Doomsday to shore up the crease. The season 83 draft is one that the wranglers can look back to fondly and a strong draft has put Calgary in the position they are today having just come off a Victory Cup win and with their eyes set on bigger things.

Edition #9: New Year, New Season, New Campbell's Corner (Again)!

It feels like it’s been forever since I’ve actually sat down to take the time to write a proper media spot. Last week was the first significant writing I’ve done in the league since August of 2022 and while the break has felt like a nice vacation after years and years of activity, you can definitely feel a bit of the rust that has accumulated over the last half a year. As a lot of people already know from private talking, locker rooms or this article , I will be moving to Australia for about 10-12 months and our flight officially leaves on February 26th. I think, despite having a plan and a good bit of money hidden away, it’s still going to be quite the challenge and setting myself up for success in other areas before I go so they either don’t add to the stress or I can continue to use them for enjoyment is incredibly important. As I’ve found over my time with the Victory Hockey League, it’s almost easier to write week in and week out if you have some form of a template. Basically I’m saying league blabber for 500+ words and you’re good to go! If you’re constantly being creative every single week, the task becomes a bit daunting and sometimes can weigh on your shoulders as a job instead of a task. Fortunately for us, the league is always simulating, pumping out stats or has something go on and therefore we’re always blessed with content to blab about.

I’m excited to be back in the writing action and this week I’m going to be having a little bit of fun. In my latest Bana Blab's #57, I did a small amount of hunting through the Bears records and all-time current player stats and found a few who were dialing in on some milestones. This week we’re all going to hop into our trusty VHL hot air balloon created by  @iRockstar and go around the leagues to see what’s going on. With that being said, tie your shoes and take your vitamins because we’re turning the heat on and hopping in the balloon! Weeeeeooooo

TEAMS: The Wolves are back and they’re seemingly very hungry with a 14-2-1 record. LA and CGY are right behind them with 24 points each. Calgary isn’t a huge surprise for me. They have a lot of good pieces on that team and they’re led by a good GM. Both could be said for LA too in some sense, but also not with quite the same confidence. LA has good pieces and a great goalie, but they have holes in their defense. A literal log jam from 5th to 13th in the league, as all those teams are within 4 points. It was actually crazy but a lot of fun to see that. Tight competition between all these teams will make it a more fun situation while it lasts. Helsinki and Toronto are trying to out tank one another. Who wins? My bet is on Toronto! It’s awesome to see how Daniel Janser ( @Daniel Janser) has turned out in the VHL. Ever since they were a prospect entering the league, I had very good vibes when it came to this member and player. Taking a look at their career and this season - you’d be right. They lead the league with 27 points and are having a very dominant, MVP like season. Nezuko ( @Baozi) leads a tight race for the Kevin Brooks trophy https://vhlportal.com/hof/awards/history/9 with 13 goals to date. My very own player, Mikhail Kovalchuk with London, currently has 20 apples on the year to lead the VHL in assists. Biggie Cheese ( @a_Ferk) out here being a double predator as he’s the top Dman for points. Larry Abass Jr ( @RileyL) is the crown holder at the moment for rookie players with the most points. Jani Karppinen ( @ShawnGlade) is lethal at the most with a shooting average of 18.18%. It does help if you’ve only shot the puck 22 times in 17 games played. Callum Murray ( @Berocka) is playing, on average, 1.74 more minutes per game than the second highest average of 31.21. Both are LA Stars players. Brandt Fuhr ( @Tate) is one of those hungry wolves and leads the league for wins with 14 and a very solid 1.81 GAA. They also three-way share the shutout lead with Art Vandelay ( @Gustav) and Oskar Lindbergh ( @Doomsday) with 3. Henry Tucker Jr ( @NSG) has faced the most penalty shot attempts with 18 against them.

TEAMS: Over in everyone’s favorite league within our VHL world, the VHLE. One thing I will admit about the E is that maybe it’s not as turbulent when it comes to the difference from all teams, but then again, I think I’m also wrong because there’s less teams. Cologne leads the way in the VHLE with a 15-4-0 record. The next three in Oslo, Vasteras and Geneva are all within a 3 point, close battle. You love to see it! The next 3 are where things really start to fall off with Stockholm, Istanbul and Bratislava and then to terribly cap things off, we have last places Rome Gladiators with a 1-17-0 record.  Adeline Delle Donne ( @Dtayl ) leads the way for goals (19)  and points (37) and is a huge part to why Vasteras is in the mix. Sebastien Dokis ( @Sebastien) and Curtis Crumb ( @Crummer77) co-own the lead with 26 apples. Crumb also is the number one d-man when it comes to points so far this season. Womp Womp Womp Womp Womp Jr ( @AdamEss) is making me a huge fan because of their physical play out on the ice. 42 MORE hits than 2nd place (102 VS 60). Would it surprise you if we told you they also led the league with 64 penalty minutes?  Justin Lion ( @Emperor_Fun) leads the E for W’s with a 13-3-0 record. They also have the most shutouts with 3 so far! Jean Mercier ( @Is_thatok) is a work horse as they’ve ironed out playing 1081 minutes. Has their coach ever let them take a break yet?? Istanbul’s CPU goalie is currently the “Bana Bad Pick” of the week for the VHLE with a record of 7-11-0 and a SV% of .859, GAA of 4.22

TEAMS: It’s been a long time since I’ve paid attention to the VHM or anything like that. Of course I keep my eyes on players and their developments, but I’m not regularly looking at the index or their portal portions and seeing how the teams and players are doing overall. This season, it seems like the same old same old. Hot, hot, hot on top. Cold, cold, fucking ice cold on the bottom. Mexico City Kings are running away with things, having been undefeated in 16 games and outsourcing the second most team by 22 goals. Their goal differential is also 26 higher than the next team which sits at 16. After them, it’s a sharp drop off to San Diego and Houston for the next highest spots. Flip on over and the three top are a bit closer than the other conference. All within 6 points from 20-26. Saskatoon and Philadelphia combined for a total of 4 wins. Two teams with the lowest win totals combined together don’t even equal the next teams (Halifax with 5 –5-8-3) Captain Nugget ( @Captain nugget) leads the VHLM for points with 40, assists with 25 and co-shares the lead from goals with fellow teammate Grizz Tazzo ( @xslapxshotsx) with 15. Keita Kourou ( @woog) is firing anything they can on net as they lead the M with 128 shots and are having a career season so far for themselves in the M. Colton Heffelfinger ( @heffcolton) is having a very strong sophomore season in the M as he leads all D-men with 27 points. Mark Callaway ( @Beketov) is, at the moment, showing the M why Beketov players can be magic as he’s iced the cake in 7 games so far and leads for GWG. A dear old friend, @Zetterbergand his players Ross Glagau, lead the M for all goalies in the M with 16 DUBZ. Matthew ( @Jack kidd) McCagg leads for both SV% (.921) and GAA (1.99). Their numbers are just as strong as last season for their win-loss record and they’ve strongly improved their other stats too! Lastly, while things have been rough this season in Saskatoon, they have a lot to be happy for too. Stefan Norris ( @Elman Diablo) has been working their ass off! They currently lead the M for goalies with 580 shots against and have even had a bit of a naughty streak while leading for penalty minutes amongst goalies with 6. Congrats on recently hitting 200 TPE! Keep up the work and have fun.

I really like the creativity that went into this one to make it look like a realistic stat graphic you see on a teams social media page. The jersey change is nice and the desaturated picture works well with the Aces color scheme. I also like that you used a Las Vegas player IRL. The background is very nice and not too detailed so the main focal point is the text. I think the font of the text should be bigger to fill the graphic out a bit more.I also like the faded text. Given that you are new (mentioned in a previous review) I think this is a really well done graphic. For a benchmark I'm going to give you a 6.75/10, that's what I'll base your future ratings off of.

    Cheers!

The season S87 has started and our intrepid heroes have played in eight games so far. The Wranglers show a mediocre record of 3-3-2 and sit just outside of a wild card spot at the moment. Freshly-wed and re-elected Captain Daniel Janser leads the Wranglers in points and goals scored, while playing in the second line, giving some much needed veteran presence in a rookie formation. A task which he does not see as a demotion or even relegation. Says Janser: 'I am proud to be chosen to mentor the future of Calgary and I will do my level best to teach them Wrangler-hockey as well as give them confidence in their abilities.' This seems to work out well, Daniel's line mate rookie left winger Larry Abass Jr scored a hattrick in their second match of the season against Prague. Just one match later, the Rotkreuz Center scored all of Calgary's four goals in the 4-3 OT win against the Dragons. It appears that Janser will continue to be a clutch player, regardless of the line he is playing in.
Marcel on the other hand is playing prime time in the first back pairing together with All-Star AirRig GoodBrandSun, being the defensive conscience of the first line, as a stay-at-home defender. The younger Janser leads the team in shots blocked and is one of two players not showing a negative +/- rating (the other one being his sibling). This confirms that he is a reliable defender, who is not afraid to sacrifice his body to help out his netminder.
Which leads us to Oskar Lindbergh. The Swedish goaler shows so far a streaky performance. Having said that, goalers also need some adjustment time when they change teams, and this newspaper is convinced that we have not seen the best of the Wranglers' new man between the pipes yet.
Rookies Braun and Laroche-Gagnier have as of writing this article no points to their name, but they are on a promising trajectory and show dedication on and off the ice. It is only a matter of time when they get their monkey off the shoulder and will contribute on the offensive side of the game as well.
Strasmore has found some scoring prowess and fueled be the moral boost of being a World Champion, co-leads the team in assists dished. It looks as he will easily surpass his personal point record by the end of the season.
Wolanin and Gonçalves are skating in the starting formation and both show four goals for their efforts. The Portuguese Wonderkid is to everybody's surprise the leader in issuing checks, a role which is more expected of Strasmore or D. Janser.
GM Kris Rice has indicated that some line adjustments will be made due to the underwhelming performance of the Albertan team which has not matched its ambitions as of now.

Please find below the Jansers' stats of the regular season until now:
    Marcel: 8gp, 0g, 4a, 4pts, +0, 8 PIM, 12 hits, 17sb
    Daniel: 8gp, 7g, 4a, 11pts, +0, 6 PIM, 20 hits, 7sb, 1gwg, 61.56FO%, 1 First Star nomination

Hello, and welcome to this season's VHLE Awards!

We are a few minutes away from revealing this season's winners, so let's reminisce on a great S86 campaign. With a record-setting season on their belt, the Cologne Express were the favorites entering the playoffs, but soon the reigning S85 champions, Oslo Storm, made sure that everyone knew they were going to defend their title. And they did. Under the management of Nathan Powers, the Storm franchise is now the first VHLE team to win back-to-back titles.

RileyL reacted to Ricer13 in ON TIME! ! ! S86 Calgary Wrangler Awards
Woohooooo! I am on time this season with our regular season Team Awards! We had another amazing regular season which came up short in the playoffs but we aren't here to talk about the playoffs, we are here to talk about the regular season. We had some amazing performances this season from our core players down to our prospect pool so let's shine a light on some of these great members.

    Top Shelf Award

For the second straight season @Daniel Janser has led our team in goals scored. He tops his total from season 85 (51) where he led the entire VHL in goals scored. In season 86 he scored 54 goals which put him into a 3 way tie for the goal scoring lead in the VHL earning him his second consecutive Kevin Brooks Trophy. It was a high scoring league in season 86 and Janser did not back down from the challenge. Congratulations on winning the Season 86 Top Shelf Award.

    Rybak Trophy

Another repeat winner for our Rybak Trophy which is given to the player who leads the team in points during the regular season. @Daniel Janser had 120 points which is 12 points better than his season 85 total. He led the league AGAIN in points but he earns this award on his own. He takes home his second Mike Szatkowski Trophy as the leagues leading scorer. He also had the highest margin of points between himself as the leading scorer and the next high scorest on his own team out of every team in the league. That sentence was a mouthful hahaha. I am happy to see Janser have this kind of success throughout his career. Congratulations on winning your second straight Rybak Trophy.

    Last Line Award

ANOTHER REPEAT WINNER ALERT!!!! Wow we have such a strong core of players in this organization. AirRig GoodBrandSun won the Last Line Award as the teams top defensemen last season and he will earn his second straight Last Line Award this season. He led this team from the back end and doing so with an even more impressive season than his last. He had more assists, more points, better +/-, more shots (but less goals RIP), way less PIMS and more blocked shots. He was a beast all over the ice and set a good example for some of our younger up and coming defenders. Congratulations @Rhynex Entertainment on winning the Last Line Award.

    Jubis Memorial Trophy

This award is given to the member who demonstrates the potential for long term success in this league. The winner of this seasons trophy has been steadily becoming more involved with the league. He wasn't the most chatty in the Wrangler's locker room but that is because he now has a longer room of his own to manage. It is great to see new members get more involved in the VHL and for that reason I would like to congratulate Bob Vladovechsenkchuskin @Grape on winning the Jubis Memorial Trophy.

    The Sheriff's Badge

Well this has to be the hardest trophy to give out with the kind of locker room we have. Our Captains all did an amazing job leading this team last season but their were also some players not apart of that group who did a fantastic job leading this team without a letter on their jersey. The winner of this seasons Sheriff's Badge is up and coming defensemen Phil Strasmore @Phil. It has been only a few short seasons that Strasmore has been apart of the group in Calgary and he is already amongst a locker room favorite. Always positive, no matter the outcome but isn't one to back down from some friendly bantering amongst his teammates. Congratulations Strasmore!

    Young Buck Award

Prospects need some love too, right? Of course they do! They deserve to be rewarded for their hard work as they look to climb the ranks as a young player. This player did such an amazing job last season that we yanked his ass up from the minor league as soon as we got a chance. His training continued to improve every single week and we definitely took notice. I am very excited to see where his career goes with Calgary now that he is up with the big club. Congratulations Vincent Laroche-Gagnier @vincentlg2007 on winning the Season 86 Young Buck Award.

    Most Valuable Wrangler

I feel like I can define this award in any way that I choose. Most Valuable could be who carried the load to help push your team into the playoffs, it could be a leading scorer or someone who made the biggest sacrifice for the team. I am going with the latter this season. This player is the ultimate team player and with the sacrifices he has made playing in the shadows of some of our stars has gone a long way to help this team be as competitive as it is. He could bitch and whine about the minutes he is getting or be jealous and spiteful about seeing his teammates find success and win awards but he doesn't. He has played his role and has done so willingly to help put this team in the best position possible. I want to thank this member for those sacrifices and congratulate him on winning the S86 Most Valuable Wrangler Award.

Another season of awards in the bank, congratulations to everyone! I am excited to see what this team can put together for season 87. Go Wrangler's Go!

RileyL reacted to jacobcarson877 in Career Reflection - Landon Wolanin
We’re hitting the halfway point in Landon Wolanin’s career. He has been pacing well, and has really found a good home in Calgary. He has a group of players in his age group that keep him motivated and engaged. There is plenty of internal competition and the drive to win is through the roof. A lot has changed of course, with plenty of big names coming and going over the last few seasons. There has always been a great cast of players and more importantly people around Wolanin as he has grown up, from a boy to a man.

Landon has seen a lot of growth over the last few seasons on the ice as well. Growing from a half-point a game player to a point a game player, now pushing 100 points a season and fighting to be one of the top 10 scorers in the league. There is not much more room to grow, but some final adjustments will leave Landon set to compete for a scoring title.

There is still a lot more to accomplish though.

Missing out on the rookie of the year award, and by a long shot definitely hurt at first. The constant playoff failure hurts as well. There is so much yet left to win, and that prospect is definitely exciting. Although the time is ticking, the prospect of success in the future is what keeps Wolanin going. Maintaining form will be incredibly important over the coming seasons as well, with such a high ceiling, there comes a lot of work to keep oneself at that level. Nothing would be worse than watching the seasons of work wash away with age. Sure, one day this story will end, but Landon Wolanin will be fighting to the bitter end. Landon hopes one day his efforts could be entered into the HOF, but until then, he just has to keep his head down and keep grinding away. Only the best of the best get that honour, and he has to prove he is one step above the competition.

So far he is one of the best, but that isn’t good enough for the future. He sits in the perfect position to take the mantle of the best winger of his era, but there are still a few players that stand in his way. Just a few more names to hunt down on the leaderboards.

    Time is ticking.

    1. My player is playing in the WJC for Canada.

    2. IDK how much of a difference a 900 TPE goalie is to a 650 TPE in the sim is but considering Calgary won the league last season with a 650 TPE and if I use logic I feel like the acquisition of the 900 TPE goalie will push Calgary over the hump.

    3. Well it shows how ever they were built/put to gather was the right way for the sim.
