  8. OTTAWA, CA — The Ottawa Lynx, who were last in the Eastern Conference at the S94 trade deadline, were revitalized and made one final push for the playoffs with a roster of six new waiver players. To beat the Halifax 21st in the final game of the season was a tall order, and the Lynx fell 2-3 to the strongest team in the VHLM, though it was a valiant effort. One of Ottawa’s waiver pickups, defenseman River Harrington, who finished the season with 23 points in 19 outings for the squad, was available for comment after the regular season’s conclusion. Harrington previously played for the Vancouver Giants of the WHL and with his short stint with the team, is one step closer to fulfilling his dream of playing in the VHL. “Although we only played a handful of games together, this squad has that drive to win and I know all of us will have a chip on our shoulder next year,” commented Harrington, postgame. “I’d love to come back to Ottawa through the dispersal draft. I can’t say enough good things about our GM, Blake Laughton, and to play alongside my buddies (Brandon Petan Jr. and Slava Kovalenko) here has been amazing. I just hope I’ve shown that I’ve got what it takes to succeed in this league and beyond.”

  11. PLAYER NAME: RIVER HARRINGTON POSITION: DEFENSEMAN HEIGHT: 6’0” WEIGHT: 200 LBS. AGE: 18 BIRTHPLACE: MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO, CANADA VHLM DRAFT STATUS: ELIGIBLE FOR S95 VHL DRAFT STATUS: ELIGIBLE FOR S96 River Harrington hails from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, born to tech mogul Augustus Harrington and elite fashion designer Cecilia Harrington, though the only child of the Harrington couple is looking to shift the perception of his family name and pave his own pathway to success through hockey, wanting to prove to his parents that he was more than they claimed he was. His goal? The legendary Victory Hockey League. After a successful stint with the WHL’s Vancouver Giants alongside his close friends Brandon Petan Jr. and Slava Kovalenko, which saw the Ontario-born defenseman putting up 71 points in 68 games for the squad, Harrington took his talents to the VHLM as a waiver signing for the Ottawa Lynx at the tail-end of S94 to aid a squad that lacked both offensive and defensive firepower. OFFENSE: In 19 games for the Lynx as a waiver signing after the trade deadline, Harrington ended the season with 12 goals and 11 assists, with 3 GWG and 5 PPG, with an astounding shooting percentage of 22.64%, which led the team that season. This offensive prowess is one similar to the likes of the renowned Skor McFleury and blossoming star Jillian Woods, the two players Harrington has claimed he is modeling his game after. As a self-proclaimed offensive defenseman, Harrington wants to provide quality play on both sides of the ice and become a flexible asset for any team that requires the service of a high-ceiling scoring defenseman. DEFENSE: On the defensive side of the game, Harrington put up 38 hits and also led the S94 Ottawa Lynx squad in shots blocked with 62 despite only playing 19 games. Although proving to be a prolific goalscorer and playmaker, Harrington is still a projected first pairing defenseman in the VHL if he develops to his full potential, not afraid to put his body on the line and make those physical plays that keep the puck out of his team’s end and as a result, out of the back of the net. MENTAL: Harrington has been noted to lack discipline throughout the entirety of his youth and junior career, with countless penalties that ended up throwing him in the box more often than not, and kept his talent off the ice. It was only when he was gently chided by a few guiding voices in his life that he decided to clean up his act, as VHL scouts were now starting to keep a keen eye on him as a prospect of interest. In his 19 games for the Lynx, Harrington was able to start improving on his discipline, racking up 16 PIMs as compared to the 63 he acquired in 48 games for the Vancouver Giants. Outside of the slight discipline issue that he is now tackling, Harrington has been praised by coaches and teammates for his work ethic, his loud and commanding voice in the locker room (from previous experience as an assistant captain for the Vancouver Giants), and the energy and passion he brings to the ice every game. Entering the S95 VHLM dispersal draft as a top prospect, Harrington is looking forward to contributing to a team’s defensive core meaningfully, while being able to score and handle himself on the offensive side of the puck.
  12. River Harrington’s first taste of the VHLM was certainly interesting, to say the least and I’m extremely pleased with how he performed on an Ottawa Lynx squad that was desperate for a few fresh faces. After having to release their only two skaters due to inactivity, Ottawa was revitalized with six new players, two of them being River and fellow former Vancouver Giant Brandon Petan Jr., who brought the offensive spark this team needed. Despite the fact Ottawa missed the playoffs in heartbreaking fashion, River put up some pretty impressive stat lines in his 19 games played for the Lynx. He scored 12 goals, 11 assists, totaling 23 points accompanied by 3 GWG and 5 PPG. His shooting percentage was 22%, which was one thing I was extremely surprised about, and he finished with 38 hits and 62 shots blocked, which led the team for the season in SB. I’m currently trying to build an offensive defenseman and I’d like to think I’m on the right track considering this is my first taste of hybrid attributes! Starting with that 80 TPE carryover definitely helped some and I'm stoked to see where River can go from here.

  20. WARSAW, PL — Early this morning, Warsaw goaltender and VHL great Lachlan Summers announced he was going to hold a press conference today, and the media swarmed into the room like ants where the Warsaw Predators’ staff had just finished setting everything up appropriately, waiting with bated breath. As he walked into the room, Summers looked as crisp and cool as ever, as he often did when he stepped out onto the ice to man the crease for Warsaw every game. He was a multi-award winner, Continental Champion, and poised to set some of the league’s best goaltending stats this season. He stepped up to the podium, adjusting the microphone as the crowd murmured amongst themselves, cameras flashing in the Aussie’s face as he composed himself. Then he spoke. “Hello, everyone. Thank you for gathering here today on such short notice. The reason why I wanted to call this press conference is because,” Summers began, “I am here to announce my retirement from the Victory Hockey League at the end of the season. It has been an extremely rewarding nine years in this league and I am ready to finish my career strong. Thank you.” Without another word, he began to walk off the stage and left the room, but the clamor that broke out amongst the press was boisterous. Soon after Summers’ announcement, came Sadie St-Louis’ interview with the DBC where she confirmed that this would be her last season as well. Sources are unsure if the two friends planned their announcements jointly, but this comes as a shock to VHL players, staff, and fans everywhere. We will keep readers updated once we know more.
