Today just after 7am, I heard Let it Snow at work. And I've heard a lot more Christmas song throughout the day. Since I try to make fun of traumatic events and I need 2 capped, I curse you with Jingle Pucks Dashing o'er the ice, On a one-man breakaway, O'er the line we go, Laughing all the way. The puck to tape job sticks, And it won't go and fly, Oh what a fun it is to trip, When a stride goes so awry! Jingle pucks, jingle pucks, I ran out of fucks. Oh what a fun it is to trip, When a stride goes so awry! Jingle pucks, jingle pucks, I ran out of fucks. Oh what a fun it is to trip, When a stride goes so awry! A period ago, I thought I'd take the puck, In the net to tuck, But I ran out of luck. The ice was slippery, Zamboni screwed me up, Oh what a fun it is to trip, When a stride goes so awry! Jingle pucks, jingle pucks, I ran out of fucks. Oh what a fun it is to trip, When a stride goes so awry! Jingle pucks, jingle pucks, I ran out of fucks. Oh what a fun it is to trip, When a stride goes so awry!

I've mentioned it, but the problem is that there are team good at both. Like this season's Calgary, they're the most disciplined team, while also being the second best penalty killers, obviously they're gonna be first. Or last season's Moscow, they were the best killers, but also the second most disciplined team, obviously they're gonna be first. That's why I cared more about the hypothetical teams, than about real teams. I think it just works better for comparing the importance of the two.

I'm a Minnesota Wild fan because I'm a masochist, I guess. Seeing the combination of our penalty kill being utterly useless the last few seasons and the reckless style of play of F̶o̶l̶i̶g̶n̶o̶ H̶a̶r̶t̶m̶a̶n̶ M̶i̶d̶d̶l̶e̶t̶o̶n̶ some players (it has looked much better this season, thank you Hynes!) made me think—what's more important in the VHL, having a stellar penalty kill, or being able to stay away from the penalty box? In this article, I'm going to look through the last few seasons—since the S93 changes in sliders—and compare some data. For each season, I'm going to list the best penalty-killing team, the least penalized team, and the team with the fewest power play goals against. But I don't actually think these will be very relevant, because, for example, the S95 Moscow lead the league with the fewest powerplay goals against and the highest penalty kill percentage, which would lead you to believe PK% is always the key. But they were also the second-least penalized team. Being elite in both is obviously the ideal scenario, but that's not what this article is about. For this experiment, I'm going to establish two hypothetical teams: team “Disciplined” and team "Killers.”. Team Disciplined is very good at staying away from the penalty box. So good that they would be the second-least penalized team every season. But their penalty kill percentage wouldn't be stellar—ninth overall every season. For each season, I'll use the average of the two least penalized teams in the league and the median* penalty kill percentage. *Median = the value separating the higher half of the data from the lower half of the data. You rank the values from the highest to the lowest (or the other way around; it doesn't matter), and the number exactly in the middle is the median. In cases of even number of values (like in a 16-team league), the median is the average of the 8th and 9th values. Team Killers is great at killing penalties, but their physical play sends them to the penalty box a bit more often. But they're still not a goon squad. For the Killers, I'll use the average of the top two penalty kill percentages and the median amount of penalty kill attempts. Season 96 (so far) Fewest powerplay goals against: Calgary (35) Best penalty kill: Malmö (85.49%, 37 GA) Least penalized: Calgary (226 PKA, 35 GA) Disciplined: 231 PKA with 82.76 PK%, 40 GA (5th overall) Killers: 254 PKA with 85 PK%, 38 GA (3rd overall) Season 95 Fewest powerplay goals against: Moscow (36) Best penalty kill: Moscow (86.53%, 36 GA) Least penalized: Chicago (262 PKA, 40 GA) Disciplined: 265 PKA with 82.78 PK%, 46 GA (T-3rd overall) Killers: 291 PKA with 86.12 PK%, 40 GA (T-2nd overall) Season 94 Fewest powerplay goals against: Calgary (41) Best penalty kill: Vancouver (85.49%, 55 GA) Least penalized: Calgary (250 PKA, 41 GA) Disciplined: 253 PKA with 81.89 PK%, 46 GA (5th overall) Killers: 286 PKA with 84.73 PK, 44 GA (T-4th overall) Season 93 Fewest powerplay goals against: Warsaw (27) Best penalty kill: Warsaw (89.62%, 27 GA, wtf Summers) Least penalized: Warsaw (260 PKA, 27 GA) Disciplined: 261 PKA with 82.24 PK%, 46 GA (T-2nd overall) Killers: 306 PKA with 87.82 PK%, 37 GA (2nd overall) Killers2**: 306 PKA with 85.87 PK%, 43 GA (2nd overall) **Because Lachlan Summers @kirbithan had to just completely break the penalty kill and because the second-highest penalty kill percentage (86.02 by Prague) would be league's best more often than not, I've used the average of the 2nd and 3rd best for this one. Conclusion: Even though the difference is not that significant, it looks like it's slightly more important to keep the penalty kill success rate up rather than to focus on avoiding being penalized. At least with the current settings.

Mexico City Kings Press Conference Week
VattghernCZ replied to JCarson's topic in Team Press Conferences
1. I don't want to jinx us, but I think it's pretty much guaranteed we're getting in. 2. I don't understand why the conferences are even a thing in the M, a 10-team league (they still make sense in the VHL to). Sure, it makes sense irl for game scheduling, because of timezones, but come on. They just make things more confusing here in a sim league. Who cares we're the top West team? I don't. We're 6th, that's the position that matters. Just ditch it. 8 games against each team, 8 teams make the playoffs, 1-8 2-7 etc. playoff format, re-seeding after each round, and call it quits. You can add a twist by the 9th and 10th overall teams playing a series for the 1st overall pick. 3. This goes back to my previous answer - we're 6th overall team, we're not favorites. But they say defense wins the championship, right? If we can lock things down and grind out some 1-goal wins, we might upset a team or two. 4. We have troubles scoring, and Ottawa has been top notch defensive team, I wouldn't want to face them. 5. It's been Ronan's season so far, I don't see them stopping anytime soon ! 6. Definitely! Chazz is one of the league's finest. -
Looking at all the gfx slightly high on the forests' magical funghi slaps. Thank you everyone who contribute. I love you.

Mexico City Kings Press Conference Week
VattghernCZ replied to JCarson's topic in Team Press Conferences
1. It was the first time I actually thought I'd be skipping it, because I have no idea about the history of the VHL. Not a fan l of this one 2. Bots! They need an appreciation week. 3. Acquiring a forward, I'd say. Our D-core is better than Simon thinks and our goalie tandem might be the best one in the league. 4. I'd hate to see the team parting ways with the S97 first round pick, especially now with Shaunca retiring. 5. Honestly, if our two forwards on the brink of leaving due to IA don't update until ~12 hours before the trade deadline, I think it would be more wise to re-tool for the next season or two rather than to push. Downgrade from Mintus, Grønvold and Chazz to lower TPE players who are gonna play in the M next season or two, getting some later picks along the way. 6. I think the value of draft picks went up with the M and the E merging. Even high earners' re-creates will now typically stick arouna for 2 seasons. Maybe trading everything for a bunch of 2nd/3rd rounders to build a team of low-ish earners for 3-5 seasons from now is now a viable strategy? -

While most of the league was enjoying Halloween with their families, or at various events and parties, Grønvold had other plans. Even though on the surface, no one would have guessed so. During the short time off, he organised a Halloween party on his ship he had purchased last Summer. Nothing suspicious here. But Grønvold's true intention was to make head start in the pursue of his mortal enemy, his arch nemesis, The Kraken. "Man, where we heading?" asked John Jameson @Frank in his Banshee costume, which was often mistaken for Samara from The Ring. "Don't worry about it," replied Grønvold, adjusting the massive head of his sperm whale costume. "There's more pilsner in the cooler downstair, dad brought some from Czechia." "Good enough for me, pal" said Jameson and left Grønvold alone at the helm. That was easy, though Grønvold. But damn, it's getting chilly here at the Labrador sea. Still, the reports of the Kraken sighting couldn't have lied. And lie they did not. Watching the sonar screen, Grønvold soon spotted the enormous shape and he immediately knew the time has come. "Hey, Bouchy @Gaikoku-hito, keep her still, I'm going for a swim!" shouted Grønvold at Pierre Emile Bouchard, before realizing Bouchard had had too much Chūhai to even hear him. "I got her, you go," laid Leonard Triller @Triller his hand on Grønvold's shoulder. Everyone remembers Grønvold grabbing a harpoon and jumping in the ice cold water, in his full sperm whale costume. No one knows what happened under the surface, but Grønvold re-appeared about an hour later, the costume torn apart and the harpoon missing. Grønvold didn't speak a word for the rest of the party, but switched from beer to slivovice. 1-0 for The Kraken. Being too drunk, Grønvold forgot to put the GPS tracker in the harpoon bolt.
