Mexico City Kings Press Conference Week
VattghernCZ replied to JCarson's topic in Team Press Conferences
1. His defensive abilities. His awareness, his skating and physicality work together well. I hope to see the resutls in team defense stats. 2. Just a few tweaks in bodychecking and he's set for his final development season. 3. Has to be offense. He's gonna record some points simply because of his hockey IQ and pretty good hands, but he's not an offensive creator. 4. He's a blue collar guy and he loves the sea, he'd probably work at a fishing ship. 5. He's going to hunt down the Kraken that sunk his father's ship. 6. NHL offseason - no hockey. VHL offseason - this one wasn't that bad. But when you're not a commish or something, and when your player isn't a part of many sims, there's just not much to do. I'd say it's hard to stay engaged unless you have some buddies you can keep in touch with and keep each other motivated. -
Grønvold's officially a bust. How else would you describe a 4th overall pick not starting their D+1 season capped at 400 TPA, but rather only in 390s? Sure, he'll get there in week 1, when he sobers up, but what he's shown at the training camp is just unacceptable! He's failed to put on the obligatory 15 pounds of muscle - he's been pounding beers instead, weighing in only 13 pounds heavier than in his last season. He refused to take the boxing classes his agent recommended, saying he wanted to pOwEr skAte and waTch tHe tApE. Which means he's a) not doing what he's told and b) a big sissy. In fact, when he was at his parents' place in Vancouver, his dad pulled a few strings and got Wolves' legend Guntis Gavilrovs to spar with Grønvold. Instead of throwing punches, Grønvold just asked for an autograph and bought Guntis a crate of bear jerky! And the body checking! Going full speed, he's barely able to run through an 18-milimeter plywood sheet. His scrotum starts retracting when he even sees a brick wall! He's supposed to be a tough guy, right? Bull-! There's a tons of work for Grønvold to become a real hockey player. Is he up for it?

Team Europe Presser for W/E 10/13 Just a reminder: you may only submit one press conference claim per week. 1. Give me a quick breakdown of your player: their name, what position they play, and what are their biggest strengths. 2. Do you already have a WJC medal in your collection, whether with your current player or a previous one? 3. What do you think about the team? How confident are you in the group? 4. What are your expectations for your player this WJC? 5. 5-0 start so far. Probably unsustainable, even though we'd like to think different. How many of the remaining 3 round robin games do you expect us to win? 6. What team are you going to play for next season? Also don't forget to join the WJHC discord server and select Europe in #roles to gain access to thq locker room! https://discord.gg/8xvbyHZZ @Starchychaff @Mr Bohannan @eagle_3450 @Tate @Chillybro @Ozzy Batty @Phil @Seabass @TheDuke @Anthique @eaglesfan036 @xsjack @ThatCanadian @Dil @Xflexz

Claim 2/2 for W.E. 10/13

With the Kings' early elimination from the VHLM postseason, Grønvold was looking for other things to clear his head before getting into the grind again. So this season, he was more than happy to visit Czechia with his adoptive parents. But he didn't stay in the country for long, just long for his old man to introduce him to the products of about 27 of his favorite Czech breweries. Santy had different plans. This was before the VHLE announced the end of their partnership with the VHL. Grønvold was in Europe for a road trip to visit every city hosting a VHLE team. And even though he said he wanted to take a break from hockey for a few weeks, he was already thinking about his future season in Europe and setting expectations himself. Hello Europe. He fully expected to start strong and be a dominant defensive force against tougher competition. He didn't hope to reproduce his VHLM offensive output but was prepared to be the penalty kill anchor and a shutdown force deployed against the toughest opposition, logging close to 30 minutes every night. His expectation was maybe 50-60 points, 150-200 shots blocked and about 200 hits, and maybe some love in the top defender voting? Even though he knew that would be tough, he'd probably have to compete against Harrington. As for his team expectations, more than anything, he hoped his VHLE team would have more active locker room than his old man's had. Wann Kerr once told him he had almost quit hockey because of the almost dead LR; it had been tough on someone new to hockey. Santy now knew what to expect and definitely wouldn't have thoughts like this, but still, a similar experience wouldn't have been great. Kerr's team had made it into the finals but ultimately lost; Grønvold would have hoped to be able to take the next step. The news about the VHLE caught Santy just as he was driving back to Czechia to meet up with Wann and Marzena before flying back to Vancouver. Goodbye Europe.

It's a shame, I enjoyed being around CaptainSB in the MEX LR last season, kinda inspired me to try out SBA Despite the smell

This is VHL. We get to create our own storylines here. These can be based on reality or don't have to be. This one is. It's a continuation of a real story that unfortunately didn't get one. On September 7, 2011, a tragic accident happened in Russia. Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, then one of the KHL powerhouses, were flying to Belarus, where they were scheduled to play the season opener against the HK Dinamo Minsk. But the airplane never landed. It crashed not long after the takeoff. There were 45 people onboard; 43 lost their lives in the crash; one passed away later in the hospital. Among the 43 initial victims were three Czech hockey players, all of them members of the 2010 IIHF WC gold medal-winning Czech team. Karel Rachůnek (OTT, NYR, NJD), Josef Vašíček (CAR, NSH, NYI), and Jan Marek, as well as one of the best Slovak players, Pavol Demitra (OTT, STL, LAK, MIN, VAN). To pay homage to Karel Rachůnek, whose name is printed on the only Czech hockey jersey I own, I decided to use his name as a manager name now that I'm getting into GMing, having a role in each of the offseason tournaments, and waiting for another VHL GM job opening so I can try to apply. In this alternate storyline, Rachůnek didn't lose his life in the crash but was left unable to continue his career as a professional athlete. “Come on, Rachna, move your legs! Go go go!” shouted the coach. I can't do this, Karel thought. It was his first real practice after the accident. Hockey has always been his passion. He didn't want to even think about doing anything else. The hope he would step on the ice again and smell the distinctive smell of sweaty leather inside the hockey gloves had kept him going during his recovery, when he had to learn to walk again. “Doc, when will I be able to get back on the ice?” Karel remembers asking the doctor in the Yaroslavl Hospital. He never got an answer, only sympathetic looks. This isn't real; it can't be! The resilience, some may say stubbornness, helped him exceed all expectations doctors and physiotherapists had. Eleven months after the crash, Karel put the pen on paper and signed a PTO contract with his hometown team, HC Zlín. The training camp was a nightmare. Sure, he still had the smarts, but not the physique to go along with it. You can't play defense when you can't keep up or put any weight on your right leg. Needless to say, Karel wasn't offered a contract as a player. But he did receive an offer to stay with his hometown team as an associate coach. While coaching had never been on Karel’s list, he figured his experience he had gained overseas and in the KHL could come in handy. And as it happened, his influence helped Zlín to dominate in the following season. Okay, this can work, Karel thought. He became a full-time assistant coach and later a head coach, honing his skills in the ELH (Extraliga ledního hokeje), the top-tier Czech league. Eventually he was becoming more and more involved in the hockey operations, serving as an AGM along with being the bench boss. But he felt his hands were too tied as an AGM. Some people are great at this position, but Karel felt like it's not right for him. He felt like he would make a better GM than an AGM. However, he was never able to land a GM spot in the ELH. But after the GM of the junior affiliate of HC Motor České Budějovice—a team Karel was with at that moment—stepped down mid-season, Karel was named the interim GM. The interim tag was then removed the following offseason. That's how Karel met Wann Kerr. At the time, Kerr was one of the better VHL players, centering the United first line, and had been investing heavily in youth player development in Czechia for years. During his regular offseason visit of Czech youth and junior training camps, Kerr and Rachůnek had a beer or five and began talking about hockey. Kerr himself, while only being a player, was interested in the hockey operations and was vaguely involved in some hockey talks within the United management. “Yo, how about trying your luck in the VHL?” pitched Kerr. At that time, Karel was intrigued, but didn't want to terminate his contract with the Motor organization. “I tell you what. I train my successor here in Budějce. You get me some contacts and let me crash at your Vancouver place, I make you my AGM and pay for your beer. Deal?” replied Rachůnek. “Fuck yes! We fuck the VHL up! We also need to get like fucking @Triller or @Scurvy or @Thunder or someone onboard. @Frank and @Gaikoku-hito are gonna shit their pants! Let's fucking gooo!” Kerr confirmed the deal, hitting the table with his fist, spilling his beer in the bowl of wasabi battered peanuts. Not caring that he didn't know who these people were, the intoxicated Rachůnek joyfully agreed, and they carried on celebrating the flawless masterpiece of a plan. However, the plan appeared to be flawed from the beginning. Rachůnek trained his junior league GM successor, winning the champion title along the way. He moved to Vancouver with his family, and immediately Kerr informed him about the Dragons looking for a new GM. Before even leaving the Vancouver airport, Karel sent his CV and application email to the VHL commissioner. “Who the hell is this Rachůnek jackass? Ever heard of him? What's that stupid circle above the u? Get outts here!” was probably the commissioners’ reaction to Rachůnek’s email. Or at least that's how he imagined it. “So what, you just gonna sulk in the corner now? You bitch made?” Kerr tried to comfort Rachůnek. Then continued with some actual constructive advice: “Listen, my boy Santy is about to hit the ice at the Junior Showcase Tournament. The GM of his team may use another voice. Give @Ricer13 a call and see.” And that's how Rachůnek got his first management position within the VHL system.* The Rush have taken the JST by storm, of which the VHL management took notice. The next time Rachůnek applied for a GM spot, he was accepted. Even though the JST is not done yet, Karel has already assembled a strong squad as the GM of the Nuuk Narwhals at the ProAm tournament, and was named the GM of the Team Europe at this year's WJC. Karel Rachůnek’s name is in the hat now. It will be interesting to see if he manages to land a long-term job in the future. *My experience GMing at JST and AGMing in Houston a few seasons ago is not a part of the Rachůnek storyline.

Just similar names Ricer13 is our GM, his player is Spider Panda. And you're right, he's a seasoned pro and all around a great member of the comunity. Our goaltender Ricer Fourteen, is a player of a different member - Bombshuka. They're fairly new here, I don't think I've ever interacted with them so far

Damn, Grønvold 3rd overall, the Dragons would have to be high on some fumes or smth

JST Rush Press Conference Feel free to answer three questions for 1 TPE or all six questions for 2 TPE. Just a reminder: you may only post one Press Conference claim per week. 1. We started strong, then fell apart for two sims, then came back with a 3-0 sim. We're all over the place! How would you rank our team compared to our opponents? 2. We have the luxury of having two strong goaltenders on our team. We've finally seen Ricer Fourteen debut and start 3 games so far, with 2-1 record, .909 SV% and 2.67 GAA. Do you think the confidence of the team changes when the goaltender, who's listed as backup on the paper, starts the game? 3. Kyle Evans, generally known as more of a playmaker, is leading the tournament in shooting percentage and leading our team in goals. How do you think he's managed to find such incredible goal scoring prowess? 4. Joel Jakobs is the new team scoring leader, currently sitting tied for 6th in points and tied for 4th in assists tournament-wide. Where do you think he'll rank when round robin is over? 5. Alagsantere Grønvold is currently leading the tournament in shots blocked, almost 20 ahead of 2nd place. Human body can't take this much abuse for long, what would be your recommendation for him about how to not fall apart after a few seasons? 6. Our newcomers, Michael Lee Jr and Grog Strongjaw, are yet to see their names on the scoresheet. But Michael helps the puck possession by good performance in the faceoff circle and underrated physicality, and Grog has a lot of untapped scoring potential (I can see some powerplay time coming). What would be your words of encouragement for the two? @Ricer13 @twists @Plate @Kyle Evans @Rjdixon01 @Jonny @Qu1nn @Shadowpac16 @Dabnad @MrMom @McGriddy10 @AJW @Flabebseth @okochastar @Bombshuka @blueredlover @Grog Strongjaw

JST Rush Press Conference For week ending 9/29 Feel free to answer three questions for 1 TPE or all six questions for 2 TPE. Just a reminder: you may only post one Press Conference claim per week. Hello and welcome to the S95 Junior Showcase Tournament! What's your player's name, what position do they play, and what type of a player are you building them to be? Have you already had experience with the Junior Showcase Tournament, either with your current player, or a previous one? How do you expect your player to perform in the tournament? What are your expectations for the Rush in this tournament? The drafts are approaching. Where do you expect to be drafted, and has any team interviewed you yet? The offseason tournaments are a great way to showcase (sorry) your player's skills in front of the scouts. What are some areas of the game the scouts may find extra enticing? @Ricer13 @twists @Plate @Kyle Evans @Rjdixon01 @Jonny @Qu1nn @Shadowpac16 @Dabnad @MrMom @McGriddy10 @AJW @Flabebseth @okochastar @Bombshuka @blueredlover

Mexico City Kings Press Conference Week

1. I like them, offseasons tend to be too long without them. 2. Yes! I'm GMing in ProAm - Nuuk Narwhals - and my previous player is signed up to the tournament. I also AGM the Rush at JST, a team where Grønvold plays, and I've applied for a GM job at the WJC. 3. Just keep on earning. Last offseason, I did a multi-week Media Spot about tur goaltending in the previous season, maybe I'll do something similar. Offseason is a great time to dig through some numbers. 4. 12 capped every week of course! I also got 4 TPE for Super Coach and 5 TPE for VHFL, so I'm really happy. I have no idea what I put in Predictions, so let's see if I get at least a little something. 5. I came from YouTube. I'm not sure which youtuber it was, I think CynFTW or Rob Talks Hockey. They did an add read, I was intrigued but forgot about it until I heard a second ad read. 6. No, I haven't. My social circles of a) people who might be interested and b) people whose english is decent enough don't overlap.
