Rip Wheeler - Early Season Thoughts:

Alright, let’s fire up some early season thoughts centered around the one and only Rip Wheeler.

So it’s no secret that Rip had a tough go during season number 89. He was a rookie, just trying to find his way…and he definitely had trouble locating the stat sheet! So what about his sophomore season?! Well, so far there seems to be some improvement! Let’s break it down.

In six games played so far, Rip has amassed (lol)…one goal and one assist. Now two points isn’t earth shattering, but it’s close to half of last seasons production! Progress!! What gets me excited though is the 33 hits in six games. That’s almost six hits per game! A vast improvement from last season. Rip is and always has been a positive influence off the ice and in the room…but with some consistent PPE hopefully he can translate that into some production on the ice! The Wranglers are 3-3 with mostly close games. Rip will continue to keep his head down and do what he can to be a positive contributor this season!

Alright, fired back up on a Sunday night! Let’s gooo! Definitely excited for this upcoming season 90 of the Victory Hockey League!Wranglers made a lot of moves this off-season and in a true changing of the guard look to reload and not rebuild! I love that we have a GM (Ricer13!) that is not afraid to make some moves and shake things up a bit!

I wanna start off by saying I am humbled that Rip was named assistant captain this season! Statistically speaking Rip shit the bed last year, but I believe some hard work, determination and some top shelf whiskey will lead to a sophomore season to be proud of. Alright, enough about everyone’s favorite whiskey drinking cowboy! Let’s do my favorite thing, as a T-Triple-G guy (Team Guy, Glue Guy)….let’s send some Scotty P shoutouts down range!

First up, former 4th overall draft pick Fradin Mcgryer! Fradin has two of my favorite attributes, he’s a big meat eater of a man at 6’4, 235lbs and he hails from the good Ol U-S of A! Fradin was also (and probably more deservedly so) names as an assistant captain for season 90. His stats last year in the Euro league were stellar with 21 goals and 43 assists from the blue line. With 64 total points in 72 games he was almost a point per game guy! And with a plus 28 rating, Fradin is definitely helping the club when he’s on the ice! Now to my favorite stat, with 229 hits, you gotta keep your head up when he’s lurking around the neutral zone! I’m excited to see what he can do on his rookie season and can’t wait to lace em up with him this season!

Alright next up, this guy has some huge (big ass) shoes to fill. Losing Daniel Janser, a future first ballot hall of famer was a tough blow for sure, but I have no doubt, this guy will step right in and crush it! Our next Captain and leader on the ice and in the room, Phil Strasmore! Phil had a solid season last year for the Wranglers with 10 goals and 56 assists for 66 total points in 72 games. He also came to play during the playoffs with 8 points in 6 games! With a minus 15, Phil could’ve done better, but I take blame for 14 of this minus points, cuz Rip was a liability out there at times! Haha like most of my favorite players, Phil had 243 hits! Laying the wood to the other side! He also had a solid 232 in pims so you know he’s not afraid to send a message! And that is the kind of leader I want and will follow into battle, run through a brick wall for, and yes Wrangler fans “Riiiiidde for”. Couldn’t be more pumped to have him leading the squad this year!

Lastly, can’t right anything without shit talking a bit…I’m at 500 words…so “Little Jakey”Thunder and Brian “Lame Train” Pain…The season 90 Wranglers are getting ready to ride, and you both have nowhere left to hide!

    Assistant Captain: @Fradin99 Fradin McGryer

Calgary is going against the grain and naming one of their rookies as part of their leadership group. Fradin McGryer has been an active voice in the locker room since being drafted and has continued that trend since moving up to the organization. Calgary will rely on him to continue to be that voice as they push through this rebuild.

    Assistant Captain: @ScottyP Rip Wheeler

A 2nd year player with the Wranglers has shown he has what it takes to be consistent working on and off the ice to get better. We hope to see this continue in S90 as he helps lead this team through what looks to be a tough season and cements himself as a core piece of this team.

    Captain: @Phil Phil Strasmore

The last remaining piece of the previous core who has been a part of this leadership group for quite some time. He moves up into the role as Captain with the retirement of Daniel Janser and looks to be a veteran leader for all of the young talent making their way into the Calgary Organization.

Congratulations to our new Captains, let’s try to have some fun while also getting our asses kicked all season!

Alright, we are liiivvveeee! Once again back at it earning that sweet 6 TPE with some thoughts, shit talking and shout outs!

Let’s fire up the “thoughts” portion of things. Playoffs? Playoffs? Yes, we’re talking about playoffs! Sitting in a solid spot, number 3 in the North American conference…that’s right, mighty riders from the north, the Calgary Wranglers! At the end of the year, 7th overall in the league, the Wranglers had a rough last week or so of sims and look to right the ship starting tonight!

The best thing about playoffs is you only need a ticket to the dance…you can sneak in as a wild card and win the ‘ship or come in as the obvious number one seed and shit the bed. Whether it’s the 1982 Los Angeles Kings beating the Edmonton Oilers, the 1994 San Jose Sharks shocking the Detroit Redwings or the sun .500 Chicago Blackhawks winning the cup during the 1938 season. History clearly shows that anything is possible when you are able to out your name on the bracket.

Lastly, thoughts on teams touching the conference trophy after the game clinching win? Good wholesome celebration of winning a conference title or bad juju that might jinx your club from winning the ultimate prize?! Drop your thoughts in the comments! (I like to think 10’s of people read my media spots! Haha)

Alright, moving on. The next part might get personal, it might make people feel a little un uncomfortable..and that’s okay.

First up, Sharky! Aka “little” Jakey Thunder! I’m calling you out once again brotherrrr! I’m shocked you’re excelling in the VHL after a disastrous attempt at stardom in EA Sports NHL 22! You were a dumpster fire, undisciplined penalties, out of position all the time and the corniest chirps online! You may have had success in the VHL, but you’re on borrowed time! A broken clock is right twice a day! I don’t see the success lasting! After an off season or hard work, dedication and some well placed TRT shots, Rip is gonna be coming for you Thunder!

Next up, “Lame Train”…the time for talk is over, the jokes, the facade, the ducking, dodging and diving is over! First round, game one, first shift…you and me brotherrr, center ice, ditch the buckets! Toe to toe, give me your best shot! Rip will eat that weak left for breakfast before unleashing the fury! All talk, no dick…sums you up quite nicely! But now, the time for talk is over, just you and me…you have nowhere left to run. IF, if we don’t fight during our first playoff game, just know you were too much of a coward to answer the call! And you’ll have to live with that forever!

And I’ll end with a quote from the great coach Jack Reilly “Brian, you’re not even as has been, you’re a never was!”

ScottyP reacted to Thunder in Lamb, Payne, Pearce - Heavy Hitters
It’s time again to take a look at the VHL heavy hitters.  Digging into the hit statistics, I wasnt surprised that Vinny Detroit, @dasboot, is the all time leader.  Not only that, it looks like his record will not be touched anytime soon.  Vinny Detroit has 3163 hits on the books, which is almost 300 more than the #2 ranked hitter, Brennan McQueen.  To make this even more impressive, the next active player, Vasile Lamb, currently has 2564 hits, and still has another season to bump his stats.

Vasile Lamb, @dlamb, is currently in 13th place on the all time hit list.  This position is quite impressive, and with 2564 hits, and 8 games remaining, Vasile Lamb is on pace to hit 2600 hits, which will put him ahead of Phil Marleau, @Phil, but not let him catch up to Phil Shankly, who retired with 2607 hits.  With that in mind, Vasile Lamb still has a chance to reach Shankly’s record if he muscles up in the last eight games and knocks some opponents around.  With one more season to go, if Vasile Lamb keeps pace he could end his career with 2924 hits and proudly retire in 2nd place on the all time hits list and overtake Duncan Idaho, @OrbitingDeath , who retired with 2734 hits and is ranked 5th; and Theo Axelsson, who has only one more hit than Duncan Idaho.

The next best heavy hitter who is currently active just happens to be a real prick.  Brian Payne, @Scurvy, and he is ranked 66 as of the stats recorded today.  Brian Payne has 1795 hits with 8 games left this season, so his ranking can only go up.  Not only that, Brian Payne has another season to add to his impressive stats.  Brian Payne is on pace to hit 1821 by the end of this season, which should put him ahead of Hard Markinson, @STZ  If Brian Payne continues to crush opponents next season, its likely that he will end his career with 2080 hits.  This could put Brian Payne in the top 30 of the all time hitters, right behind Motherfucker Sharpe.  Even if Payne comes up short of Motherfucker, his numbers are still something to celebrate as this is nothing to sneeze about, especially considering how many minutes the goon has been in the penalty box over his career.

Before moving on to the next active heavy hitter, I wouldn’t be doing any justice to this writing if I did not write something about Rip Wheeler, @ScottyP.  Rip Wheeler is starting his career very slowly, but keep in mind Rip, you’ve got several seasons ahead of you and if you follow your mentor’s footsteps and step it up, you could break the top one hundred of heavy hitters.  Keep in mind; however, you will need to boost your TPE because you are on pace to retire with 981 career hits, unless you do something to improve your player.  With those numbers, you belong in Hayes’ office, not the bullpen!!

The number three ranked active hitter is Nico Pearce, @Spartan , and he is in 70th place, with 1766 hits.  Unfortunately for Pearce, he will be retiring at the end of the season and because of his retirement, he only has eight more games to play.  If Nico Pearce continues the hitting pace, he will likely end with 1780 hits and will put him ranked 69th, right behind Keaton Louth, @Beaviss.  Again, impressive numbers, regardless of his position in the all time list.  This is definitely something to be proud of.

Congratulations go out to the top three active hitters, Vasile Lamb, Brian Payne, and Nico Pearce.  You are all studs who are spending your careers wrecking opponents.  A job well done!

The Scotty (P) Leandro weekly update, random thoughts:

Ok, here we are, almost 3/4 through season 89. Here’s a few things I’ve learned this season, along with some random thoughts…that will include the famous Rip Wheeler shout outs and of course some shit talking to two of the VHLs most hated (by me) players.

First let’s take a look at Ol’ Rip Wheeler. I gotta be honest, the learning curve up here in the show was A LOT steeper than I thought it would be. I felt like I was a weekly contributor last season in the “E” and I hoped this season would be similar. Well, I was wrong. Lol…As I say often about Rip, he’s a big locker room and “glue” type guy. He brings all the intangibles, you know, the ones that don’t show up on the stat sheet, ever. Through 58 games, Rip has lit the lamp twice, and has three helpers. Rip has been on his best behavior, with only 56 PIMs in 58 games. And 103 hits is below standard, but I’d attribute that to Rip trying to stay out of the box and help out the club in any way he can.

Ok moving on…it’s time for some shout outs!

First off Landon Wolanin has been lighting up the lamp a lot this year! Top 5 in the league in goals, he’s been a huge reason that the Wranglers are primed for a playoff run.

Second, Leandrooooo!! Leandro Goncalves has a machine gun like shot and he’s been letting it rip this season. With 536 shots in 58 games and he’s number one in the league by a huge margin! Safe to say, when the puck is on his stick the opposing tendys better have their heads up!

Last, but certainly not least…the legend and future Hall of Famer himself Daniel Janser! “DJ” is having yet another stellar season in his farewell tour. He’s number 7 in the league in points with 77 in 58 games. He’s a dangerous player and threat to score anytime he crosses the the red line! For the last 5 seasons Janser has been near the top of the league leaders in points and is a huge reason Calgary has been successful as a franchise. Also, a solid two way player with a great career plus / minus and even some shot block stats thrown in! A two time winner of the Brett Slobodzian Trophy, the Kevin Brooks Trophy and the Mike Szatkowski Trophy! Also, he’s won the Scott Boulet Trophy and the Scotty Campbell Trophy respectively. He was also a huge part of the Wranglers Victory cup and Continental Cup victories! He’s a stud, and his presence on and off the ice will be missed in Calgary next season for sure!

It’s crazy, that as a lowly rookie…a young buck, just scraping by to sniff a point and not hurt the team…that Rip Wheeler has gotten the opportunity to play with those guys, and the rest of the Calgary boys! Such an honor. Cheers to a great career DJ!!!

Alright, now to the shit talking portion of the program…these two mopes, Brian Payne and “little” Jakey Thunder. Both are obviously in the twilight of their careers and just holding on to past memories and accolades. I mean 71 points in 58 games? C’mon Thunder! That’s barely a point per game! And your plus minus is all the way down to plus 15, a huge drop off from last years plus 25. And don’t even get me started on the drop off in hits! I get it though…especially when you’re playing the Wranglers, you’re just avoiding a trip to the train station! But you look silly tip toeing around like a ballerina!

And Paaaayyyne, you’re up next baud. Hits way down, PIMs way down…when you look at yourself in the mirror, do you even recognize the player that i used to look up to? Such a shell of what the “Payne Train” used to be…it’s actually sad…I’m not even mad bro…I’m just disappointed. And the only reason your plus / minus is up is because you switched squads and the Vancouver boys are carrying you like a backpack son!

Oh and I almost forgot, both of you Jamokes aren’t even league leaders in assists! Top 5? Whatever…like Rickey Bobby said…”you’re either first, or you’re last!”….so we’re basically tied statistically…740 words boys…step your game up!!

On behalf of Rip Wheeler and Scotty Leandro, I’m out! ✌️✌️
  21. Cheers

Rips game this season is like Eric Lindros after he got dummied by Scott stevens! Lol

And NOT getting locked up in Vegas is ALWAYS the goal son! Wish me luck!

Atta boy ScottyP.   It only took 3 season for you to finally understand how to be better.  Well when I say better I mean at earning TPE, not better at hockey. Your play reminds me of an aging blind donkey who despite playing on a line with two of the very best in the league you can’t seem to wiggle out a secondary assist.

I remember your debut article that said you were going to be the next Eric Lindros.  Which is kinda accurate if you count his current stats in the Ontario beer leagues that he watches from the stands.

have fun in Vegas this weekend and don’t get thrown in jail

Jimmy, you finally dropped your nuts!  Keep it up.  That’s some good writing right there, see how easy it is.  Although I think your daughter wrote this one too because when I read your reports, there were a lot of spelling errors.  Come on son, keep it up.  And how come you didnt comment on Payne spending his time at Curves and drinking white claws?  Good thing you have Landon, Janser, and Goncalves on your team.  Did Leandro tell you he used to play for the Tips?
  24. Cheers
