  4. 1. Wild not being undefeated, wtf 2. At least 90 points, 150 hits, 150 shots blocked 3. Right now, it's Outta My Way by Damone 1. Would you ever vote for a player to win MVP if their team didn't make the playoffs? 2. Do you feel more or less invested in the VHL than you thought you would be when you first joined? 3. Favorite thing to do with a day off?
  5. Would love to see a round three for Eastern Europe and USA in the gold medal game. Five Nighthawks amongst the two rosters, and two one-goal games thus far.
  6. Day 2 of the S90 World Cup featured two exciting matchups between the United States and Eastern Europe. Fans of the Malmo Nighthawks in particular were heavily invested in these games, and what they saw was promising for an improvement from the team in Season 91. Team USA features a pair of newcomers on defense: Skor McFleury and Jacob Stone. McFleury was acquired by the Nighthawks during the off-season, while Stone has been with the team since being a draft-day acquisition back in S88. Team Eastern Europe includes Malmo forwards Yaroslav Trunov, Henry Eagles, and Yaroslav Bogatyrev. Trunov is the longest tenured Nighthawk, having joined the team back in S87 after being drafted 6th overall. Eagles will be entering his second season with the Nighthawks, while Bogatyrev was one of the marquee free agent signings of the off-season. All five of these players showed up on the score sheets in both games of what may be a preview of the gold medal contest. In the first game between the two teams, it was the Nighthawk forwards and Team Eastern Europe that game out ahead. They struck early, taking a 3-0 lead in the first period. Bogatyrev notched a goal and an assist, while Trunov and Eagles together on the second line assisted on a goal as well. McFleury and Stone, with two points each, helped Team USA tie up the game in regulation, but Eastern Europe got the victory in the shootout. Bogatyrev and Stone were named the first and second stars of the game, respectively. In the second matchup, Team USA turned the tide, but it was Henry Eagles who stole the show. The game was a 5-4 victory for the stars and stripes, with McFleury and Stone once again each notching a pair of points after falling behind early in the game. Bogatyrev scored one of Eastern Europe's goals, while Eagles scored the other three, including one assisted by Trunov. Eagles rightfully earned the first star, and Stone repeated on the pedestal as the third star. The round robin portion of the World Cup has now concluded, and with the playoffs set, there is a chance that these two teams will meet in the gold medal round. Team Eastern Europe is the number one seed, so they have earned the bye in the first round. Team USA ended up with the third seed, so they will have a tougher path, which would include a game against Team Canada, against whom they went 0-2.
  7. I like this part. Bana is arguably the best GM in VHL history, but it's refreshing to see a player respond to his style in this manner.
  8. I turned what was supposed to be a VHL.com article into almost 700 words that I will use for a media spot tomorrow, so I'm definitely going to be intentional about keeping this brief. Don't want to accidentally do that again. North America IN: Los Angeles, Toronto, Calgary, D.C., Seattle OUT: Vancouver, New York, Chicago I think the top four in North America are pretty set, and while I could see any of the other teams potentially making the moves to get into that fifth spot, right now I see Seattle as the most likely occupant. Chicago has a more complete roster, but the Bears have several players better than best player on Chicago's roster. New York could potentially make it in if they add a goalie and a defenseman or two. Vancouver would have to add a lot, but there are enough free agents out there that they could potentially fill up the empty slots with players almost as good as most of Chicago's players and see if Analfist and Slater could take that squad to the fifth seed. Europe IN: Prague, HC Davos, London, Helsinki, Malmo OUT: Warsaw, Moscow, Riga Again, we have a solid four that I'm fairly confident about. Unlike North America, however, I really only see two teams competing for the fifth seed, and I also think the five seed over here is more likely to have a shot at doing anything in the playoffs. I think the fifth playoff team will comde down to Malmo or Riga. I think Malmo has better high-end talent, with the likes of Henry Eagles, Skor McFleury, and Jacob Stone. Riga has an edge in terms of forward depth. I have my concerns with how well Malmo's first and second year will perform; not that Riga is in a much better spot, as they have two rookie forwards on the roster as well.

  10. Preach! (It's actually a fourth hit of depreciation, though.
  11. Take this philosophy and apply it to allowing players to stick around for as long as they can until they are literally depreciated out of existence. This is actually why I did skip the VHLE. Well, I guess I actually skipped the VHLM, because I played my pre-draft season in the VHLE. I wanted to experience going nine seasons with a player, even though I do think it is definitely the worse option.
  12. 1. Obviously the Minnesota Wild. 2. Jared Spurgeon, because he is grossly underrated. 3. Diana Maxwell. She was easily my best player, but unfortunately she had a very poor start to her career. It would be nice to be one of those lucky people who gets to be in the right place at the right time to have a magically good rookie season. 1. Early prediction for the S91 Continental Cup matchup? 2. Who was your vote for the Brett Slobodzian Trophy (Most Outstanding Player) this year? 3. Do you think the VHL should utilize fatigue and make Endurance an attribute that needs to be increased like any other?
  13. Before Jacob Stone and the newly acquired Skor McFleury play their first game together in Malmo, the pair may find themselves as teammates in the World Cup. While McFleury is a sure thing to make his debut for Team USA, Stone may not quite make the cut. Along with McFleury, Jake Thunder is a relative certainty, leaving two more spots on the roster for defensemen. Stone's potential inclusion on the roster could depend on a few things. The first question is the eligibility of Brian Payne. I am fairly confident that he is still eligible even though he is now retired, having just played in the final season of his VHL career. If Payne is indeed eligible, he makes the roster for sure, which leaves the last spot to be one of Stone or Brian Kowalski. Between Stone and Kowalski, there are some questions to consider. If the World Cup rosters utilize the post-depreciation attributes, Stone will likely be the better option. It appears as though the last two World Cups both used the playoff file, so it is likely that is the standard, meaning Stone will likely not be on the team this time around.
  14. Currently sitting at 999 TPE with Jacob Stone, writing this article will put me over the 1000 TPE mark. I have gotten there a bit quicker than calculated, thanks to giveaways and variance in fantasy performance. While I don't anticipate breaking the TPE record set by Nico Pearce, I starting to feel more confident that I'll have a chance at Xavier Booberry's mark. Before I look at how long it took the two of them to reach 1000, I do first want to compare how I am doing with Stone to how things went with my previous player, Taylor Mourning. Currently, we are in the penultimate week of Stone's third season. At this point in Mourning's career, I was at 710 TPE. It took until a couple weeks into my sixth season to reach 1000 TPE. Back then, I wasn't chasing 2000+ TPE, and considering the greatly diminishing benefits of earning TPE later on, I did not care so much that I became a 'clicker' for a good portion of his career. With Stone, however, I am looking to get near the top of the career TPE charts, which is something I've never really focused on before with any player. That being said, let's take a look at how long it took some other players to reach 1000 TPE. I'll be going by calendar weeks from when the first update was to when they passed 1000 TPE. The current TPE totals do not include any pending updates. Player First Week 1000 TPE Week Weeks to 1000 Current TPE Remaining Seasons Nico Pearce 08/29/21 07/03/22 44 2206 0 Xavier Booberry 06/20/21 04/17/22 43 2104 0 Ronan Lavelle 11/28/21 10/02/22 44 2001 0 Landon Wolanin 01/23/22 11/13/22 42 1965 1 Molly the Cat 04/17/22 02/19/23 44 1607 2 John Jameson 06/26/22 04/02/23 40 1518 3 The Frenchman 07/31/22 05/14/23 41 1386 4 Mac Atlas 10/09/22 08/13/23 44 1210 5 Jacob Stone 12/18/22 10/08/23 42 991 6 On the list are all the draft class leaders from S80 through S88. Pearce, Booberry, and Lavelle are all retired, so their TPE totals are final. That trio holds the top three spots in career TPE, though Wolanin is sure to pass at least Lavelle during the coming season. It could very well be that by the time I pass Booberry (if I do) it will not even be to get into the top five. While I don't think Molly the Cat will reach that mark, everyone else on this list with time remaining has a real shot. Of course, as one's career goes on, there is less reward in earning TPE, so unless these players all have it in mind that they want the top five, it would be easy to slow down their gains in the last season, when you have nothing to bank for and 50 more TPE will really only get you a couple more attribute points. Do I think anyone has a shot at Pearce? It's hard to say. I don't know what career point tasks people may have left, or how many Uncapped TPE packages they will be buying. I also don't feel like counting the weeks to see if Wolanin might get in a Christmas giveaway before retirement. What I did find, however, is that Nico Pearce, at this time of the playoffs two seasons ago, was at 1962 TPE. Pearce did get a big giveaway for the VHL Birthday and did purchase 20 Uncapped TPE for that final season. Wolanin may have a shot at the record, but he'll have to want it to get it.
  15. 1. No. I don't know enough about him to really have a good idea, but in general I would just say the guy who hasn't proven anything in the NHL is more likely to not be one of the best hockey players ever. 2. Well, there are six too many teams in the VHLE, I'll say that! Haha funny delete the VHLE joke. For real though, I do think the team count is fine. I could see getting rid of the VHLE and maybe adding a couple VHLM teams. I don't know if that would be necessary, but have players move to the VHL at 300 TPE. Make them suffer. I don't know if it's something we can do with the version that we simulate on, but I think it would be cool to actually utilize stamina. Let's see some different roster constructions than 6/5 forwards, 4/3 defensemen, and 2/1 goalies. I think extending career lengths would go hand in hand with this change really well. 3. I think I'd probably just tell my younger self to get an after school job to save up some money for college. I would say just don't go to college, or go to a cheaper school, but then I wouldn't have met the some of my best friends. 1. Who are you rooting for in the VHL playoffs? Or, if your team is in the playoffs, who would you root for if your team gets knocked out? 2. Who would be your vote for VHL MVP this season? 3. What's the most life-changing thing that you have done or has happened to you this year?
  16. At the end of the regular season, I always like to take a look at the results of the VHFL and Super Coach to analyze the best possible roster construction. While I don't have a definite formula to show me the best possible team for Super Coach, given that there is a salary cap, I have tried to put together what I think may be the top scoring combination possible. Before I get into the best possible team, I will first reveal the Best Value Team. This would be a roster constructed of all the top fantasy scorers per salary. Pos Player Name $ FP FP/$ F Jeff Lewis 4 159.5 39.9 F Lorenzo Cobberson 4 157.2 39.3 F Lucas Grey 4 146.1 36.5 D Tord Yvel 4 187.5 46.9 D Curtis Crumb 4 174.2 43.4 G Wumbo 3 136.1 45.4 This roster combined costs just $23 but scores a total of 960.6 fantasy points. For $19 less than the limit, this team would have placed 10th. Of course, you can utilize that extra $19 to improve on this roster, even if these players do give you the best bang-for-your-buck. In fact, the roster that I came up with as being the best only contains one of the players listed above. (Again, this is not a definite statement; I simply got to a point where I didn't feel like looking for more improvements, but this is definitely close to the best if not number one.) Pos Player Name $ FP FP/$ F Cobalt Burns 5 174.7 34.9 F Jason 10 302.7 30.3 F Alfred Champagne 8 240 30 D Tord Yvel 4 187.5 46.9 D Brian Kowalski 9 288.6 32.07 G Karl Pederson 6 208.8 34.8 This team would score 1402.3 points. Obviously no one would ever come close to this, but it's still fun to look at. Although Wumbo looks like a very good value, it became evident pretty quickly that spending $3 more to get a 72.7 more fantasy points was the way to go. Jason was another one that it was pretty clear should be included. He was the 6th best FP/$ among forwards, and the only one that was at a value of more than $5, making him a valuable upgrade. Some other players that I had initially looked at were Mark Calaway and Skor McFleury, but Kowalski fit better as the first defenseman to upgrade to, and sticking with Yvel as opposed to the high-value forwards ended up making more sense.
  17. Am I crazy or are there no cup winner predictions?
