  1. With roughly 20 games to go for most teams, Europe's top four are within six points. While Riga has spent the majority of the season on top, any of these four could very reasonably finish with the number one seed. Riga's lead is currently at four points with the slumping Malmo (4-4-2 in their last ten) still hanging on to second place. London and Davos round out the top four tied at 73 points each, just six behind Riga and two behind Malmo. Looking at the remaining schedules, you will notice that these teams have a lot of games left against the North American Conference. London leads the way, with 17/20 games against North American teams, while the count is only slightly lower for both Riga and Davos at 15. Meanwhile, Malmo has just six games left against the lesser conference. The Nighthawks will be rooting particularly for Chicago, D.C., and Toronto as the season winds down. Riga, London, and Davos each have 2-4 games remaining against each of those teams. Where Malmo's schedule majorly differs from the rest of Europe's top four is in their remaining games against Moscow and Helsinki. The Nighthawk's place the Menace four times and the Titans thrice, while the others are done with their games against those two. Malmo also has the most games remaining against the other top four teams, as they play Riga three times, and London and Davos once each.
  2. a couple games against Malmo should humble this bloke
  3. The Malmo Nighthawks are having a much more successful season than last, and that reflects on the stat leaderboards. A season ago, Mo Probert did lead the league in hits for Malmo, but outside of the penalty minute leaders, no other Nighthawk skater was in the top ten in any statistical category. This season, that has drastically changed as the Nighthawks as a team are currently leading the league in goals for and goal differential. Here's a rundown of most of the top ten spots held by Malmo members. With 24 goals each, Yaroslav Bogatyrev and Henry Eagles are tied for the seventh in goals. They are just behind a quartet of players who have 25, with the tied leaders up at 28. Eagles is rapidly approaching the 28 that he had with the Nighthawks all of last season, while Bogatyrev waited no time to start finding success with his new team. Both veterans are on pace to set new career bests, but their relatively low assists totals do keep them outside of the top ten in points for now. On the subject of assists, a pair of Malmo defensemen are in the top ten. Newcomer Skor McFleury has 33 assists, which is good for fifth in the league. Jacob Stone has overcome a poor start to the season and has climbed into tenth with 30 assists. These two also rank third and fourth in scoring among defenders with 41 and 40 points, and Reese McFleury's 32 points has him tied for eighth as well. Malmo has a trio of rookies who have all contributed to the team's success this season, but among them, just one is in the top ten in first year scoring. With a recent surge in points, Ronald Johnson MacWallace III, the seventh overall pick in the S89 draft, is up to 24. That is good for sixth on the rookie leaderboard. In addition to being one of the better offensive defensemen around the league, Stone is also among the leaders in shots blocked with 90. This is tied for fourth most in the league. Bogatyrev has also demonstrated two-way prowess with his 119 hits. While he hasn't quite replaced the physicality that Probert had brought, this does put him at eighth in the league. The trio of Eagles (+23), S. McFleury (+22), and Viktor Jensen (+20) fifth, sixth, and ninth in plus-minus rating.
  4. 1. Someone in Australia, which I believe could be you? You, or Berocka. Though if there are any New Zealanders, I think I would prefer them instead, but I'm less sure if we have anyone from New Zealand. 2. I suppose I have played for Banackock with Samuel Gate, but I don't remember particularly if he was a great GM at the time. I'm going to say Devise, from both of his stints as New York GM. 3. Easily the Tom Lincoln / Unassisted / Diana Maxwell line from the early-to-mid S50's New York Americans 1. Who do you think misses the playoffs from the European Conference? 2. Vancouver currently holds five S92 first round picks (DAV, SEA, CGY, HSK, VAN); how many of those picks do you think will be lottery picks? 3. Do you think the Top GM award could ever justifiably be awarded to the GM of a team that finished with the worst record in the league?
  5. After beginning the season with a middling 5-6-1 record, the Malmo Nighthawks won eight straight and have a 10-1-1 record in their last 12 games. While the team no doubt has relied on production from their veterans, the rookies have had their shining moments as well. Savaisk Tzesar Malmo's leading rookie scorer is Savaisk Tzesar, who has four goals and six assists over the past 12 games. This came after just two goals in his first 12 games. During that time, he has been on the score sheet in eight games, including a two-goal game in their most recent victory. His most notable game, however, was his second star performance in Game 112. Tzesar had a goal and an assist in the game, helping the Nighthawks take down a top team in the Los Angeles Stars by a score of 5-4. Ronald Johnson MacWallace III Having just mentioned the 5-4 win over the Stars, now would be an apt time to discuss Ronald Johnson MacWallace III. RJMW was the third star in that game, also with a goal (the first of his VHL career) and an assist. He is now at two goals and nine assists for the season. Jebediah Big Ol Doinks in Amish The rookie defensmen on the team, Jeb Doinks had his own second star showing in Malmo's 3-1 win over Toronto in Game 140. He had just a single goal in the game, but he also played very well on the penalty kill. He followed up that performance with three assists in a 5-4 shootout win against the Seattle Bears.
  6. It's no secret that the update scale heavily punishes players who earn higher amounts of TPE than others. As I currently have one of those elite players, obviously I am going to campaign for a change to the update scale that would benefit me. My proposed change would also help alleviate some of the problem with depreciation. Right now, it takes 225 TPE to get a hybrid attribute from 0 to 99. I have a couple proposals for the update scale, and with the first one, I'm going to try to keep that amount roughly the same. I am going to modify when the scale starts to hit, because it is absolutely ludicrous that it ever takes 10 TPE just to increase a couple STHS attribute points by a fraction. Going from 95 to 96 in an attribute is worth absolutely no more than going from 60 to 61, so why should the update scale be so harsh? Here's the first proposal: 0 to 40: 1 TPE 40 to 60: 2 TPE 60 to 80: 3 TPE 80 to 90: 4 TPE 90 to 99: 5 TPE The difference is clear. As we have it currently, it takes 95 TPE to get an attribute from 0 to 80. With this proposed update, it would take 140. But this makes more sense. Okay, to be honest, I can see why this proposal might not be the best, particularly for retention's sake. For new players, having to deal with the update scale at such an early stage may be discouraging. So that's where the second proposal comes in. 0 to 60: 1 TPE 60 to 70: 2 TPE 70 to 80: 3 TPE 80 to 90: 4 TPE 90 to 99: 5 TPE With this update scale, it would take 195 TPE to go from 0 to 99, which is 30 less than the current setup. But honestly, that's fine. People aren't going to 99 anyway, so I don't think we are going to have an issue of players "maxing out" there builds. And if any do get to that point, it will be a select few and congrats to them. This gives players the option to go above 90 without knowing that it really isn't worth it at all. This scale would still allow players to avoid the update scale all the way up to 60, and then very neatly, it just gets slightly more difficult at every ten. Either of my proposals just looks better from a pattern standpoint than the wild update scale that we currently have. It is, quite frankly, atrocious to look at. Why are 70 to 80 and 90 to 99 split up, but 80 to 90 isn't? What is the rationale behind that.

  14. 1. Wild not being undefeated, wtf 2. At least 90 points, 150 hits, 150 shots blocked 3. Right now, it's Outta My Way by Damone 1. Would you ever vote for a player to win MVP if their team didn't make the playoffs? 2. Do you feel more or less invested in the VHL than you thought you would be when you first joined? 3. Favorite thing to do with a day off?
  15. Would love to see a round three for Eastern Europe and USA in the gold medal game. Five Nighthawks amongst the two rosters, and two one-goal games thus far.
