Swiss Central Gazzette (goalscorer/assistant)

While Marcel is still travelling at the other end of the world to locate potential expansion candidates, Daniel is fully committed to the World Cup. Since we last reported, six round robin and one QF match were played by him. We will address them in a compressed format as follows:

vs Team World

The final score was 4-3 for Europe. World went ahead 2-0, but Europe's le Massif (Tavau, McJake) pulled one back before the first intermission. The second period was a 1-1 draw with Tessier (Jr, Deatwalker) finding the back of the net for Team Europe. The final period was won (and thus the game) by Europe with two unaswered goals by the Rock Johnson (Thunder, Tavau) and Deathwalker (Tessier, Jr). van Giersbergen was stellar with their .935 saving rate. As much as the power play was inexistant (0/4), the penalty kill was impeccable (5/5). The three stars of the match were Idaho (2g/1a), Deathwalker (1g/1a) and Tsujimoto (1g/2a).

Daniel logged 0g, 0a, +0 and 30:41 minutes on ice (most of his team)

vs Mercenaries

This match went with 5-2 to the Soldiers of Fortune. The Mercs scored five consecutive goals, before Jr (Tavau, le Massif) scored shorthanded with less than eight minutes left to play. This was too little, too late and McJake's (the Rock Johnson, Tavau) goal at 18:51 minutes just softened the blow a bit. van Giersbergen had on of their weaker days with only .868 saving rate. And both special teams did under perform with 4/7 (penalty kill, despite the SHG) and 0/2 (power play). The three stars were Sova (2g/0), Dude (1g/1a) and Fizzlebeef Jr. (1g/2a).

Daniel noted 0g, 0a, -2 and 29:01 TOI (second of the team)

vs Canada

The Maple Leafs are becoming something of Daniel's bane of existence as he seems not to be able to win against them (yet). This match was lost 6-4 and the Canadian decided the game in the second period where they scored three consecutive goals and a forth one halfway through the third. The Europeans put up a fight though and Hadrian (Jr, Deathwalker), Hadrian (Janser), Tessier (Hadrian, Jr) and Jr (le Massif, van Giersbergen) succeeded for the Stars. Hadrian (2g/1a), Dood @bigAL (in one of his last Hurrahs (1g/1a)) and Pines (1g/1a) were awarded the three stars. van Giersbergen had an ok night, but not up to their usual standards (.854). While the power play was quite effective (1/2), the penalty kill certainly was not (1/3).

Daniel had 0g, 1a, -1 and 27:50 minutes played to his name

vs Canada

This match ended 5-3 in favour of the homeland of icehockey. The Europeans scored all their goals in the first period and could not keep a hold on their one goal lead. le Massif (the Rock Johnson, McJake), McJake (the Rock Johnson, Thunder) and Tessier (Tavau, Jr) with a shorthander. The three stars were Perry (2g/0a), Dood (2g/0a) and Bouchard (0g/1a). van Giersbergen (.894) was slightly better than Tot (.885) but had to face almost double the shots (47 vs 26). The special teams did reasonably well with 1/5 for the power play and 7/9 for the penalty kill (with one shorthanded goal scored).

Daniel achieved 0g, 0a, -1 and 29:17 TOI

vs Team USA

The Yankees crushed the Stars in a 8-3 steam roll win. The goals for the Europeans were scored by Tessier (Deathwalker, Jr), McJake (the Rock Johnson, Thunder) and Deathwalker (Tessier, Jr). van Giersbergen was weaker (.833) than Sales (.893) but again had to face almost double the attempts (48 vs 28) than their opposite number. Campbell (1g/3a), Lose (1g/3a) and Greene Giant (2g/0a) were named the three stars of the game. The special teams performed not so well with the penalty kill being 7/10 and power play 0/6.

Daniel was recorded with 0g, 0a, -2 and 28:04 minutes played

vs Team World

The United Nations claimed this match with a close 4-3 win. Jr (Tessier, Deathwalker), the Rock Johnson (le Massif, Tavau) and Thunder (the Rock Johnson, McJake) bagged for Team Europe. van Giersbergen (.892) and Dimmadome (.893) performed neck and neck. Reinhart (1g/1a), Idaho (1g/1a) and the Rock Johnson (1g/1a) were awarded the three stars of the night. The special teams were very good with the power play 1/2 and penalty kill 7/9

Daniel had 0g, 0a, +0 and 27:19 minutes time on the rink

QF vs Mercenaries

Just in time for the quarterfinals, the Europeans found a way back to winning games, much to the dismay of the Merc team who conceded the match 4-2. The first period went 2-0 to the Stars with Deathwalker (Thunder, Tavau) and McJake (Thunder, Deathwalker) finding the twine. The second and third period ended with a 1-1 draw each with McJake (Tavau) and Jr (Tessier, Hadrian) being successful respectively. The three stars wer McJake (2g/0a), Deathwalker (1g/1a) and Jr (1g/0g). van Giersbergen was back to their usual form (.939), while the special teams performed exceptionally well with the power play 2/5 and penalty kill 6/7.

Daniel logged 0g, 0a, +1 and 27:43 TOI.

Stay tuned for further updates.
