Season 72 Draft: No 1st-Round Pick

Season 73 Draft: No 1st-Round Pick

Season 74 Draft: D Markus Schauer (271 TPE) @Plate

A very high earning first gen, Schauer was on track to be the face of the next generation of New York. Unfortunately, flamed out not long into his career, and after their entry-level contract decided to test Free Agency. After stops in Moscow and London, and only 5 VHL seasons, hung up their skates and retired.

Season 75 Draft: RW RJ Thatcher (256 TPE) @jhatty8

Thatcher had a very average career in New York, getting better every season, but never passing a point-per-game pace. Prematurely retired after just 3 VHL seasons.

Season 76 Draft: RW Red Lite (357 TPE) @Tate

1st Overall Pick, Captain, Award winner. Red Lite brought everything and more to New York, quickly establishing himself as the guy for the franchise. Said publicly he would love to play out his career with the team, and that's exactly what he did. Unfortunately, that was only for 5 seasons.

Season 77 Draft: D Zeedayno Chara (252 TPE) @Jubis

Another player willing to commit themselves to help NYA return to a contender, Chara was a homerun pick from the get-go. In just his 2nd VHL season, he reached the point-per-game marker as a defender. Unfortunately, at no fault of their own, Chara was moved to Seattle prior to S81 as NY management decided a rebuild was once again on. The only active player on this list, he had a standout 22-goal, 108 point season with Seattle.

Season 78 Draft: No 1st-Round Pick

Season 79 Draft: No 1st-Round Pick

Season 80 Draft: No 1st-Round Pick

Season 81 Draft: G Tadhg Byrne (196 TPE) @teknonym

In last season's draft, the Americans did not have their own pick, due to the disastrous Prout-Thornton trade, but did, through a series of moves, end up with Vancouver's 1st-rounder. Byrne was a very promising earner, with starter potential, however seems to have since gone inactive, and has not updated since early December.

TL;DR NY sucks cause everyone retired

Going back further, S71: Hugh Jass, traded after four seasons and retired after six. S70: Iangenere Risteneen, went inactive then retired. S69: Soren Jensen, traded after four seasons, and David O'Quinn, traded after 2.5 seasons.

Other than Red Lite (who retired after 5), the last NYA first round pick to last more than 4 seasons with NYA is... Lance Flowers (me) and A Red Guy in S68, who both went 6 in New York before a rebuild. Fun!

Go back just a few seasons prior to that and find the biggest bust of them all: Carles Puigdemont.
