Philadelphia's first game without me could not have gone better with a 5-1 win over Halifax!

 

It started off quickly with Curtis Crumb scoring a goal assisted by Bob Chicone and Alf Larsson only 1:36 into the first period. Gus Bentley would double the lead less than 5 minutes later. In the second period Philadelphia's power play came to life scoring twice with goals from Alf Larsson and Dylan Powers! Sadly, just 4 minutes into the 3rd Cooper Skambraks would break Red Gaming's shutout on Halifax's 14th shot of the game. Philadelphia would put the game away on the powerplay with 3 minutes left in the game with a goal from Jarno Lappi. The three stars of the game were Alf Larsson (1G, 1A, 2P), Curtis Crumb (1G, 0A, 1P), and Gus Bentley (1G, 2A, 3P). Let's go Philly!

Second ever Game Recap, for game 3 between the Ottawa Lynx and Saskatoon Wild

 

After scoring 4 goals in the first two periods, the Wild kept the surging Lynx down for long enough to secure a 5-3 win in each of the teams' first game of the season.

 

After a relatively quiet first period, the Wild stormed out of the gate in the second frame, with Chase Taylor, Nathan Ingram, and Tyler Thode each potting a goal and Kyou Fujibayashi grabbing two assists for his third of the game. But the Lynx weren't quite done yet. Mikayev Ivanovitch and Ben Franklin Chang each found mesh just over a minute apart, poking holes in the Wild's lead. Fortunately for them, Taylor notched his second of the game on Fujibayashi's fourth assist of the night, bringing the score to 5-2. Daniel Clarke scored for the Lynx with 22 seconds left, but it was no use. Augustus Kennedy picked up his first career win, and the Wild started their season with a bang. 

 

Performance of night goes to two players, both from Ottawa; Chase Taylor @NyQuil, for two critical goals and 8 shots on goal, and Kyou Fujibayashi @Azorochi for their incredible 4 apple night. 

 

My takeaway from this game is I don't think the Lynx should have made it as close as it was, but the Wild's superior offensive firepower got them the W in this one.

Recapping game 5 for Miami.

 

 

This is a perfect first game for Miami with allowing a total of zero goals and scoring five. What else can you ask for the first game and you have dominated win like that is a great start. Miamis new D core also played amazing by allowing only 16 shots, the overall defensive improvement is defiantly a reason to celebrate. The D only let up 16 shots and jay saucey did the rest to help guide Miami with a quick and easy 5-0 win over san Diego

Game 7 Review

 

What a start for the Reapers, who are an obvious contender this year. Pumping out 12 goals in their first 2 games (and notably 7 in their second) and only 2 goals against between those 2 games is an incredible sim for them.

 

The Reapers handily outshot the 21^st 42-22 and had strong performances from their capped core.

 

Massive game for Dylan Powers, getting the Second Star of the Game with 3 assists. Also less obviously, they dominated the faceoff dot, winning a whopping 74% of their draws. Add in 5:45 on the Power Play and 3:22 on the Penalty Kill, Dylan was an important member of a strong special teams group.

Game 6 Review

 

What an absolutely chaotic game. 12 goals in total over 64 shots is certainly a rare occasion. This was definitely not a game either goalie will want to remember. Ottawa may want to take another look at their Penalty Kill who went 0 for 3 tonight despite both teams netting three with the extra man.

 

Daniel Clarke was busy this game netting a goal on 8 shots, as well as securing an assist. They spent plenty of time on the powerplay and stayed above 50% at the faceoff dot.

 

I’m not sure this game tells either team a whole lot at the beginning of the season here, and Ottawa will simply be happy to have secured 2 points. Mississauga goes on knowing they had a great game up front, but poor discipline kept them from overwhelming the Lynx.

Game 9

 Miami Marauders 

vs

 San Diego Marlins

 

It was a spirited affair in San Diego Tuesday night as the Miami Marauders rolled into town high off their 5-0 shutout victory over the Hounds in their first game. On the flipside, the Marlins were still trying to get in the win column after a lopsided loss to the Houston Bulls. The first period started with a flurry of offense. Miami opened the scoring early, but the Marlins showed some real stick-to-it-iveness and answered three straight markers of their own to go into the first intermission up 3-1. Early in the second top VHLM prospect @Dom Igor Molotov unleashed a cannon from the blueline that beat the Marlins tender to make it a one goal game. The game remained back and forth, but the Marauders eventually scored a goal on the man advantage to deadlock the game at 3-all headed into the third. Mere minutes into the third period, rookie phenom @NJDevils24 Justin Adolfsen buried home a greasy rebound to score his first career VHLM goal! The marker would stand as the game winner as the Marlins held off Miami and sent the fans home happy as the game ended 4-3.

Game 9 Review. Miami Marauders vs San Diego Marlins

 

The Marauders came out shooting, putting in the first goal  at the 4:02 mark.  San Diego dominated the remaining of the first period scoring 3 goals, making for an exciting game.  At the first break, scoring leader Igor Molotov told his line to step it up which proved to be the catalyst to get the Marauders even with the Marlins going into the 3rd period.  

 

DJ Fire Dragon kept the puck out of the net giving the Marlins the edge after Justin Adolfsen put in the game winner early in the 3rd.  Controversy at the 17:36 mark had the Marlins crowd going as a holding penalty appeared to create a power play for the Marauders, but a simultaneous hooking penalty on the great jr, put the teams at 4 v 4, for the next two minutes leaving only 24 seconds with a full team but the Marauders couldn’t pull it off.

 

The three stars rightfully went to the Marlins.  Landon Wolanin picked up the first star, Eric White the second star, and a fan favorite Babushka got the third star.  

 

The teams face each other in Miami for game 12.  Its sure to be a tough rematch.

Game 11 rewiew
Las Vegas Aces vs. Mexico City Kings

Game couldn't start better for Las Vegas Aces, 3:0 lead in less than 8 minutes and Aces fans were excited. Jason Argos scored his first goal of the game at 17:44 making it 3:1 in first period. Something happened for sure in Kings locker room, beacuse in second period we saw a different team. They scored two fast goals and the game was 3:3. Later they scored their 4th and got in lead first time in the game. Ben Svenska made it 4:4 and that was the score at the one of second period. Jason Argos scored his second on the game just 29 second after the start of the third period. Game was equal in the third period, with few scoring chances. Aces tried to play without a goalie in last minute of the game, but Kings survived their pressure and won the game.

Jason Argos scored the game winning goal, Calen McKay had two goals and an assist which helped their team win this game.

Game 1 Review:

When the final whistle blew Halifax knew that there was work to be done. A 5-1 defeat is not how any team wants to start their season. A three point night for Gus Bentley showed that he deserved the first star of the game. The first period showed that Philadelphia came out flying, drawing 2 penalties and scoring 2 goals. The second period was no different with 2 more Philadelphia goals on the board, both powerplay goals. The third period finally saw Halifax on the board with a top left snipe by Cooper Skambraks. A final score of 5-1 Philadelphia.

Game 8 Review:

Game 8 saw Las Vegas conduct a convincing win over The Saskatoon Wild. With the three stars of the game all going to Las Vegas Ace players, you knew it was a dominant performance from start to end. The first period saw no goals, and demonstrated that the game could be tight. It wasn't until the second period where the goals starting flying in. The Aces score 4 goals in the period with 0 conceded. The third period saw Vegas add a fifth goal before Saskatoon finally answered with a goal from Ben Svenska. Cory Evans the goalie for the Aces was credited with 20 saves from 22 shots and a win. The final score being 5-2 in favor of the Aces.

Game 14 Recap Chicago Phoenix vs Los Angeles Stars

 

 

The Los Angeles Stars put up some impressive stats in game 14 of the VHL against the Chicago Phoenix.   Stars excited the crowd with 79 shots on goal, which is almost unheard of on the ice, with 6 of those in the net, beating the Phoenix 6-2.

 

Henri le Massif put in the first goal on a sweet back hand from a nifty pass by Jan Hlozek.  Chicago tied the game a minute later when B-Chi C2 snuck one by the Stars goalie Rara Rasputin, on a power play.  The Stars dominated the second period with 3 goals, to include 2 by Tui Sova.  Stars shot at the Chicago goalie 35 times in the 2nd period.

 

Chicago looked like they wanted to make a game out of it coming out strong in the 3rd period when Sportsboy57 displayed his stick handling skills stealing the puck and skating on a breakaway towards the ready and steady Rasputin, only to have a tricky toe drag puck lift slide one by a stretched out Rasputin, bringing the crowd to a dull roar.  The game stayed at 5-2 until just under 2 minutes remaining when Jan Hlozek deflected the puck into the net.  The goal started with Tui Sova who caught the pass master AJ Williams on a back door putting the puck on his stick.  Williams faked the shot and slid the puck right to a waiting Hlozek who buried it into the net.
