Eastern Europe shut out as Team Nordic advances to gold medal game

For the second straight tournament, and the fourth time in the past seven, Team Nordic will be playing for a gold medal.

Finishing the round robin as the second seed, Team Nordic game into this game as the favorites, and it showed early on. They owned the first period, out-shooting Eastern Europe 20-4 in the first 20 minutes. It was going to take another stellar performance from Sirkants Klamasteris, who had 55 saves in the quarter finals, for Eastern Europe to advance. Unfortunately for them, he couldn't keep them off the score sheet, as they scored thrice in the period. The first goal came at 6:20 on a power play, as Dan Dan took a pass from Linus Zetterstrom and put the puck past Klamasteris. Late in the period, Saku Kotkakoivu and Reylynn Reinhart would add goals to make it a 3-0 lead going into the second. After a scoreless second period, Eastern Europe actually came out firing in the third, but unfortunately for them, Papa Emeritus was a wall. He didn't have to work much early on, but when it came time for him to shine, he stopped all 21 shots in the final frame to complete the shutout. That Dude and Dan Dan scored goals for Team Nordic in the period to make the final score 5-0.

Team Nordic's opponent for the gold medal will be Team USA, who pulled off the upset against Team World in the other semi final match. Eastern Europe and Team World will play for the bronze.
