Daniel Janser 2,184
Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) The season S87 has started and our intrepid heroes have played in eight games so far. The Wranglers show a mediocre record of 3-3-2 and sit just outside of a wild card spot at the moment. Freshly-wed and re-elected Captain Daniel Janser leads the Wranglers in points and goals scored, while playing in the second line, giving some much needed veteran presence in a rookie formation. A task which he does not see as a demotion or even relegation. Says Janser: 'I am proud to be chosen to mentor the future of Calgary and I will do my level best to teach them Wrangler-hockey as well as give them confidence in their abilities.' This seems to work out well, Daniel's line mate rookie left winger Larry Abass Jr scored a hattrick in their second match of the season against Prague. Just one match later, the Rotkreuz Center scored all of Calgary's four goals in the 4-3 OT win against the Dragons. It appears that Janser will continue to be a clutch player, regardless of the line he is playing in. Marcel on the other hand is playing prime time in the first back pairing together with All-Star AirRig GoodBrandSun, being the defensive conscience of the first line, as a stay-at-home defender. The younger Janser leads the team in shots blocked and is one of two players not showing a negative +/- rating (the other one being his sibling). This confirms that he is a reliable defender, who is not afraid to sacrifice his body to help out his netminder. Which leads us to Oskar Lindbergh. The Swedish goaler shows so far a streaky performance. Having said that, goalers also need some adjustment time when they change teams, and this newspaper is convinced that we have not seen the best of the Wranglers' new man between the pipes yet. Rookies Braun and Laroche-Gagnier have as of writing this article no points to their name, but they are on a promising trajectory and show dedication on and off the ice. It is only a matter of time when they get their monkey off the shoulder and will contribute on the offensive side of the game as well. Strasmore has found some scoring prowess and fueled be the moral boost of being a World Champion, co-leads the team in assists dished. It looks as he will easily surpass his personal point record by the end of the season. Wolanin and Gonçalves are skating in the starting formation and both show four goals for their efforts. The Portuguese Wonderkid is to everybody's surprise the leader in issuing checks, a role which is more expected of Strasmore or D. Janser. GM Kris Rice has indicated that some line adjustments will be made due to the underwhelming performance of the Albertan team which has not matched its ambitions as of now.
