The Benoit Devereux Trophy is awarded to the player deemed to be the top goalie in the VHLM. Our four nominees for the Benoit Devereux award this season all made a major impact for their respective team. All four goalies clearly made a difference this season, and the stats don’t lie. Stefan Norris @Elman Diablo Matthew McCagg @Jack kidd Merome Dilson @MexicanCow123 Ross Glagau @Zetterberg Spoiler We have a tie! Stefan Norris and Matthew McCagg Stefan Norris of the Halifax 21st started S87 in a different place. That they did, with a record of 32-35-5 (31-23-4 with HFX), 0.92 SV% (league leader), 2.33 GAA, and 7 shutouts (league leader), Stefan Norris was the piece to Haifax’s missing puzzle, and is our first winner of the S87 Benoit Devereux Trophy. @Elman Diablo Matthew McCagg of the Ottawa Lynx was a brick wall for their team this season, mirroring their performance in S86. McCagg was the backbone of the Ottawa Lynx’s 2nd place regular season seeding and helped the Lynx make an incredible Founder’s Cup run. With a 48-19-5 record (league leader in wins), 0.918 SV%, 2.26 GAA (league leader), and 7 shutouts (league leader), Matthew McCagg is our second winner of the S87 Benoit Devereux Trophy. @Jack kidd Congratulations to this season’s Benoit Devereux Trophy winners! AJW 2,190
The Ryan Sullivan Trophy is awarded to the player deemed to be the top defenseman in the VHLM. In today’s age of our sim engine, STHS, defensemen play a major role in producing offense. The game is changing these young defensemen into two-way players and our four nominees all played this role perfectly. Big B @Bigb33 Bobby Bob @Baby Boomer Winston Dixon jr @Rjdixon01 Colton Heffelfinger @heffcolton Spoiler Colton Heffelfinger Colton Heffelfinger of the Mexico City Kings found themselves on a hot roster this season. With forwards who can score at ease, Heffelfinger was playing with the current Edmonton Oilers. As the solo defender for the majority of Meixco City’s season, Heffelfinger put up stud numbers with 27 goals, 73 assists, 100 points, +47, 239 Hits, and 150 Shots Blocked. Colton Heffelfinger is our winner of the S87 Ryan Sullivan Trophy! @heffcolton Congratulations to this season’s Ryan Sullivan Trophy winner! AJW 2,190
The Mat Benz Trophy is awarded to the player deemed to be the best two-way forward in the VHLM. To be a two way forward, you need to not only be focused on offensive production, but defensive as well. Two way forwards are extremely impactful on both sides of the ice and these four nominees played this role to the top level this season. Jagger Bomb @Jaggerbomb Keon Jeannot @Lucas anton Owen Lazaro @traphag Rip Wheeler @ScottyP Spoiler Owen Lazaro Owen Lazaro of the Miami Marauders was not a player you wanted to go up against. The 6’1, 205 lbs Spanish left winger could not only make you pay on the scoreboard, but physically as well. Lazaro was a fighting force for Miami and with 37 goals, 54 assists, 91 points, +15, 173 Hits, and 62 shots blocked, Owen Lazaro is our winner of the S87 Matt Benz Trophy. @traphag Congratulations to this season’s Matt Benz Trophy winner! The MVP of the VHLM is a player that noticeably has made a great impact for their team throughout the season. These nominees are the best of the best and their teams relied on them to perform each and every game. With nominees ranging al positions, this one was tricky to hand out! Bobby Bob @Baby Boomer Matthew McCagg @Jack kidd Gregger McKeggegger @TheNeonShaman Stefan Norris @Elman Diablo Swinsola @Swinsola Spoiler Swinsola Swinsola of the Miami Marauders had a career high and played all around perfect for their third consecutive season in Miami. AJW 2,190
The Skylar Rift Trophy is awarded to the player deemed to be the VHLM’s most valuable player in the playoffs. The Playoff MVP award is seen in many eyes as the most valuable individual award to win. Not only have you helped your team all season make it to the playoffs, but you have also stepped up and been the main reason for your team’s playoff success. Jagger Bomb @Jaggerbomb Winston Dixon jr @Rjdixon01 Matthew McCagg @Jack kidd Captain nugget @Captain nugget Spoiler Matthew McCagg This is the only award this season that was a no brainer, a clean sweep of the votes. To come into a playoff run and not lose a single game in regulation time is unheard of. McCagg was in another world of their own in these playoffs, and without a doubt was Ottawa’s most valuable player. With a 12-0-5 record (playoff leader in wins), 0.925 SV%, 1.88 GAA, and 1 shutout, Matthew McCagg is our winner for the S87 Skylar Rift Trophy. @Jack kidd Congratulations to this season’s Skylar Rift Trophy! AJW 2,190
The Jack Reilly Trophy is awarded to the general manager deemed to be the best in the VHLM. Before announcing this award I always need to give thanks to my fellow VHLM GMs. We are the first bunch to experience these young talents, become their teachers, and be a positive influence for all our players as they take their first leap into the world of the VHL. You are all amazing people and do a great job everyday, thank you for all the hard work this season! Now for the nominees: @Grape @badcolethetitan @AJW @jacobcarson877 Spoiler The winner of the S87 Jack Reilly Trophy goes to the GM who has been the face behind the monster we all call the Mexico City Kings. Entering his GMing position in Mexico 4 seasons ago, the Kings have only had good things happen to them since. Mexico has yet failed to not reach the playoffs all four seasons, and their lowest playoff seed with Cole in management has been 4th. Cole also just recently managed to beat Mexico's second round curse, sending Mexico to their first Founder's Cup finals since S76. Not only does Cole pump out contending teams every season, but he is also an amazing GM behind the scenes. One of the VHLM's most active and loved GMs, Cole is a great leader for anyone who joins this league. He never sleeps though which I am concerned about, but we love you here Cole and I am proud to announce this award to you Great work and best of luck in S88! @badcolethetitan (Cole - 6, Jacob - 2, Grape - 1, AJ - 0) Edited April 5, 2023 by AJW Triller 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/134824-vsn-presents-s87-vhlm-awards/#findComment-978929 Share on other sites
