Gaikoku-hito 2,081
How serious are you about Sim Leagues? This was a question that I saw yesterday in the Vancouver Wolves lock room and it started making me reflect on my time in the VHL and lesser extent other leagues that I take part in. On the large side of the question is also why I find it hard to watch sports in general. The fact being when I first started in the VHL with Robert Bouchard in S75, I cared a lot about how I was treated and how my player was treated; most likely caused some friction between myself, team mates and maybe even a few GMs. Yes, I was also more role playing my player but the fact remains I still cared too much about if my player won a game, points tallies etc….. But I can tell that has changed and I cannot completely tell you why? Maybe due to being more mature (LOL) or being FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY more than my fair share of the time or more likely the realization that I control very little of the outcome, story etc... of my fictional player. I give him a name, country, weight, height and after that I build him using TPE but that doen`t mean success, championship etc… Also, doesn`t mean that he will even win awards, be nominated etc… So, since I don`t really control much about my player and I am now on my third player; I find that it is hard to actually care if my player does well in stats, where he is drafted or if my team is a contender or re-building as I cannot control majority of these aspects. Maybe it is me falling out of love with the VHL or sim leagues in general but I don`t think so as I value the interactions that I have with my team mates and others around the forum. I have also noticed this change towards sports in general as I could careless in my NHL team is successful, take part in trades etc… since I don`t control any aspect of the team that I cheer for but I still have no issues sitting down with a cold beer and watching either the highlights or a full game but I am clearly not as invested as once was screaming, living every moment of my favorites teams games ….. So how serious do you take Sim leagues? And have you noticed this change in yourself as well? Or it is me thing Triller, STZ, Frank and 2 others 5 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/152807-how-serious-are-you-about-sim-leagues/ Share on other sites

Triller 1,662
It is hard for me to say how serious I take sim leagues. Overall, as in life, I don't take them seriously at all. I can't fathom getting upset at sims or player stats or not winning specific awards. It bothers me none. What I do take seriously is the work I put in to earn my TPE. Maybe it is because I haven't even started a second player yet but I take pride in the graphics I create. I enjoy doing them and as soon as I start to phone it in will likely be when I am done. IMO, the VHL is the content. Put in the effort and do something you think is cool, otherwise, what's the point? You have a great player but haven't put in the effort? You likely take your player far too seriously and don't really enjoy being here. Gustav 6,407
I think a fair way to put it that I surprisingly have never put down anywhere is that I care a lot about the things I can control. I care about what my build looks like, I care about my earning, I care about the quality of the content I make, and I care about what I put into my interactions with people. I do not care about scoring the most points or getting the most likes, because I can’t control those things and they’re just numbers on the screen anyway. It’s nice when it happens, but it’s not going to make me want to quit when it doesn’t. At this point I think I care a bit less in general, because I think the work I’ve done to build myself up is done. I don’t have to worry about getting what I want out of the league from a personal standpoint because I don’t want anything else. But that’s all a product of having cared before, and I still value that. BOOM 8,746
The sim leagues that I'm still a part of, are taken way too seriously. I spend a ridiculous amount of hours per week in the discord LR's and forums, doing GFX for everyone who asks, which is a bit of a grind lately and watching live streams of the games in the leagues that do that. I get pissed when my guy plays poorly and take online comments too seriously. Tbh, if I had to quit entirely, I'm really not sure that I could. Scurvy 1,492
Pretty good question @Gaikoku-hito. I care about the league from an enjoyment standpoint for sure and do care more about whether we win or lose but not nearly as much about points on my player. I do enjoy earning and watching my player improve over time, showing the hard work of earning paying off. I usually don't pay much attention to forum arguments. I read a few of the posts to get the gist and then move on as they usually get off course and turn into an argument. I try to keep all the drama out of my life if I can. So in summary I really just want to watch my fake player win fake championships, crush a few fake players (mostly @ScottyP), snipe the occasional fake goal, and hang with some cool real peeps. Corco 1,237
I check my Player Page before I even breathe in the morning. I try to limit my time on the VHL to only while driving or operating heavy machinery. I haven`t listened to a podcast here in while but I remember when everyone was recording while driving a car so much so that I wanted to do a fake podcast pretending I was driving!! LOL!
