Sony reacting to Microsoft adopting more of a PS+ model and restructuring instant game collection is a fantastic move for consumers.

What exactly are they doing? I haven't heard anything.

Uhhh... What?

They changed things around so instead of having three titles that stayed annually, they swap out every month. The only major changes is 2 PS4 games a month (which was coming eventually anyways) and everything going live at the start of the month rather than on a weekly basis. It's mostly a lateral move, the big thing is just that it'll all be there on the first update of the month.

I think you're trying to read into things too much.

They are releasing 6 games to the instant game collection at the beginning of every month. 2 PS4, 2 PS Vita and 2 PS3. Previously there was no guarantee about which console they'd release what for etc. I'm not over reading into it imo, Microsoft announces that they are going to start releasing a few more games with their Gold and Sony then restructures PS + Instant Game Collection into less of a guessing game every month and 2 titles for every franchise, leverage their service over Gold even further.

For the most part it was one PS4, three PS3, and two Vita games spread out across the month. They just dropped a PS3 game and added a PS4 game. The change was coming eventually regardless of what Microsoft did, though that may have sped it up.

So for those of you wondering, I'm enjoying Watch Dogs so far. I'm not a GTA fan so I don't have that to compare it to, so don't bother asking me that. :P

Anyways, the game isn't flawless. The driving physics are really wonky but improve with the better cars and time to adjust to them. The hacking stuff is pretty simplistic, but is a really cool idea for Ubisoft to build off of. Some times I'll just start walking around Chicago with the Profiler out looking for crimes or people who know the location to collectibles, which is a different way of doing things. You can also hack into their phones to read text conversations or listen to phone calls, some of which are hilarious.

Everything else is pretty solid, the only complaints I really have is that Ubisoft (in typical Ubisoft fashion) oversold their game. The graphics definitely aren't on the level of the 2012 vertical slice, but they're a downgrade from even the 2013 "PS4" version. It still looks good though, especially at night and when it's raining. The other thing is that multiplayer isn't quite as seemless as they said it was (Burnout Paradise did it better) but it's still pretty nice.

All that said, I'm really enjoying the game. It's a solid start to what will be a new franchise, I'd give it an 80 right now.

Sandro Project Beast looks...wow. I still have to get through DS1 and DS2 first haha. Thankfully that'll likely be a long way off. The continued delaying of games this year seems to be a trend. I expect to hear a lot of it at E3. A lot of studios originally targeted this year as the year we see tons of games that release only on the next gen platforms but that seems unlikely now. Seems we are going to wait another year before we get to the "only on PS4/Xbox One" titles flooding out. I'm perfectly okay with that, means I don't miss as much not getting a console yet, allows me time to catch up on the games I want to by the time the gates open up as well.

The one thing I am excited about regarding E3 though is the announcement of tons of indy titles. I think Sony has the market over Microsoft in that regard (although at this point what don't they have over them?) and we could see a bunch of quality indies releasing throughout the year.

A large reason for the delays is that October was becoming a total clusterfuck, there's something like six big titles in three weeks (including four on one day). No one wants to release in November against Assassin's Creed/Battlefield/Call of Duty/Far Cry. Those four games will mop up all the sales. Less competition for sales and more time to polish is always a good thing IMO.

You're right though, we aren't going to see the PS360 gen get left behind until next year. This E3 should be good, but next year is going to be the big year. Anyways, I'm going to do quick E3 predictions for Sony because 1) I can and 2) I know a lot more about them and have much more in-depth guesses than I do for other conferences..

You think Sony showcases and demo's a proper VR headset? I know they were showcasing the tech at a conference earlier this year, code titled Project Morpheus. But they have demo'd tons of stuff at that tech convention without ever really releasing it before so. It'll be interesting to see if either Sony or Microsoft just dig in this year with the VR stuff and try to maybe knock out any of that market share with the Occulus.

New PS3 model and price drip is pretty much going to happen though I agree with you there. I also think other than what you listed for big AAA first party we are also going to get a teaser for another brand new IP that isn't Project Beast. You can also expect Kingdom Hearts 3 to be there in more prominence, fucking Kingdom Hearts.

EA could have a great conference this year too. I'm pretty much stoked to see what Amy Hening and Visceral are doing with that Star Wars license. Plus maybe some actual footage of Battlefront 3, more confirmation of Mirrors Edge 2 and PLEASE EA show us something to do with a Rogue Squadron sequel. MORE PILOT GAMES IN THE SW UNIVERSE!

It could be good though. I actually think MIcrosoft will also have a good conference. They are going to play catch up this entire generation unless something else happens, similar to how Sony was last time out, but they have already caved on so much it's pretty much going to be a Sony lite conference from Microsoft imo. They will likely start trying to scrounge up a few solid indies, some first party exclusives, focus on the games, focus on making the gamers more happy. Competition in the market place has really given us some serious control this generation that is for sure, even if it did slow down the rights for digital, and prevent us from getting a bit further industry wise. But that stuff will come when it's ready anyway. I think I'd much rather both Microsoft and Sony stick to what they know/have done well and have Valve/Steam and Kickstarter companies and Occulus and other forward thinking companies handle how we deal with the "future".

They'll talk about Morpheus but I don't think there's anything they can really show at E3. If they've got games in the works -- and I'm sure they do -- they're going to be a ways away. With PlayStation Now around the corner, I think Sony's going to focus more on that this year and Morpheus will be much more prominent next year. The PS3 price drop is obvious, and there are rumours of a new PS4 model as well but that seems way too soon in my opinion. Microsoft hasn't done enough to force Sony's hand yet either.

Originally I had two new IPs alongside Project Beast, the new Guerrilla Games RPG and the rumoured open world title from Sony Bend. Bend's game could switch in for Guerrilla since GG is a European dev and they might want to save that for Gamescom, but apparently Guerrilla's game already has a trailer ready to go and Bend has been so quiet I'm not sure they're ready to show anything. I think Sony Santa Monica is going to show up just to shut up all the people spewing negative crap about the studio. I also had Kingdom Hearts III in there originally, but I recall hearing that it won't be at E3. If Square Enix brings anything, it's going to be Final Fantasy XV.

EA will have an interesting conference for sure. Battlefield Hardline, Star Wars Battlefront, Dragon Age Inquisition, and all their sports games are all known entities. I suspect we'll see the new Need for Speed and maybe a tease for Mass Effect 4. I want to say Mirror's Edge will be there but the "coming when it's ready" line at the end of last year's trailer makes me think we might not see it until next year. There's another BioWare team working on Star Wars, and I don't know how Visceral is divided up between Hardline and their Star Wars project. I suspect the latter is just getting started since Henning and Stashwick only recently arrived. I'm kind of hoping it's a revival of 1313 since it already looked like Star Wars: Uncharted. What I'm interested to see is if EA and Sony have dropped the awkward breakup shit from last year where they constantly went out of their way to NOT mention each other.

Microsoft is going to have a solid show for sure. Halo 5, Forza Horizon 2, Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, rumours of Halo 2 Anniversary and they are supposed to have a notable third-party exclusive. Some are saying they have a timed exclusive as well. Dragon's Dogma has been thrown around a bit because Capcom isn't in the greatest shape, but as I understand that game had much more of a following on PS3 (in Japan particularly). My guess is Platinum Games is doing Vanquish 2 exclusively for Xbox One, and Rainbow Six: Patriots will resurface as a timed exclusive. Xbox has been known as the home for shooters for a long time and both those would fit in. I'm sure we'll get some kind of news on the Black Tusk Gears of War title and I wouldn't be shocked if they announced the new Unreal Tournament was coming to Xbox One as well. MS is never going to gain major ground with the indie crowd until they drop that ridiculous release parity clause. Most of these teams are around 10 people, they can't be expected to launch simultaneously across PC, PS4, Xbox One, and potentially more platforms.

Finished up the main story in Watch Dogs. Really starts to pick up in Act 3, Aiden himself isn't a particularly interesting character but that made it easier for me to project myself into him (something I tend to do with games or books told from one POV) and the supporting cast was pretty interesting.

That said, hopefully this follows the usual Ubisoft trend of the first game setting a lot of the pieces up, and the sequel being God Tier (see: Assassin's Creed 2). If so, gimme Watch Dogs 2 in Vancouver. Not enough games go to the Pacific Northwest and inFamous' rendition of Seattle was quite lackluster. If a game on this scale -- actually I'm sure it will be bigger once PS3/360 are out of the picture -- set in my neck of the woods would be pretty fucking awesome.

Also Jordi is a brilliant character. More of him pls.
