Retirement, Re-Creation, and Taxes

Welcome to all loyal readers to another edition of the Victory Hockey League business journal. This week our feature article explains the new taxation system that is going to roll out to the league over the next few seasons. The new tax system will allow the league offices to increase it's season by season profits by nearly tripling the amount of excess TPE they can hand out each season. The TPE that is collected through taxation can then be used to upgrade simming infrastructure and to support the league wide welfare and pension systems.

The welfare system has come under fire by the opposition party in recent months on the basis that the VHL is running a major deficit by handing out the free TPE each week. The welfare system and pension plan systems are to blame for this say the opposition party. As it currently stands anyone who claims welfare or pension is getting 2 TPE directly from the VHL to support their player. In order to stay in power the current leaders of the VHL had to make a compromise to keep the opposition at bay. They have decided that the best way to balance out welfare is to introduce a tax system, that way it will be players helping players instead of the league giving free TPE handouts.

As we said earlier in the article the new tax system will roll out on a team by team basis over the next few seasons. Players under a certain amount of TPE will be exempt from having taxes taken off their player each season, but players with upwards of 1,200 TPE will feel the biggest hit with the new system. Here's a quick example of how the taxation system will likely work with some minor changes likely to happened based on player and fan reaction.

Player TPE Bracket = TPE per Season Taxed

0 to 499 TPE = 0 TPE/season

500 to 699 TPE = 3 TPE/season

700 to 899 TPE = 6 TPE/season

900 to 1,099 TPE = 10 TPE/season

1,100 to 1,299 TPE = 15 TPE/season

1300+ TPE = 20 TPE/season

At the beginning of each season the players will have to take off a certain amount of TPE from their player build depending on how much total TPE they currently possess. For example a player with 950 TPE will need to take 10 TPE off their player build. A new sub-forum dedicated to taxes and tax law will be created as the taxation system rolls out. We will also be looking to hire a taxman and a collections agent whose jobs will consist of monitoring tax returns and chasing players and forcing them to pay their taxes. New rules will also be added to the rule book soon on how tax evasion result in having to serve in-game suspensions of up to 72 games.

As we stated earlier this system will begin rolling out over the next few seasons. It has already been approved in the United States for Season 43 so teams located in the US will be the first to be taxed. It looks like Canadian teams will be able to be taxed soon after along with some of the European teams. There are a few teams that currently have no time table on when they will start getting taxed, such as the Moscow Red Wolves.

Reading anyway, might as well grade

Content: 3/3 - So Davos and Quebec become the preferred free agent destinations in order to dodge the tax? That's a little too realistic for my blood. Also, Stockholm to be moving to the Cayman Islands in Season 45 confirmed. (I also volunteer as collections agent.)

Grammar: 2/2 - Is there a rule where commissioners can't know the proper form of its/it's to use? I think there is.

it's season by season = its season-by-season

tax evasion result = tax evasion will result

Presentation: 1/1 - Si senor.

Total: 6/6
