First off in this edition of my "Looking Back" series, I will be taking a look at right winger Milos Denis. Milos was selected 7th overall by the New York Americans, and had the benefit of playing on that strong and consistent contender when they were winning cups. This winger is a very talented player to come out of this draft. In his rookie debut season in Season 39, he posted 6 goals and 15 assists to give him a 21 point total. Denis was a big +53 as a rookie and went on to win the Continental Cup with the Americans in his first campaign in the VHL, aiding them with 5 points in 10 games in that post-season. In his sophomore season, Milos upped his goal total to 13 and jumped to 27 points. This was a little better than this the season before, but this season the Americans lost out in the playoffs, while Milos helped out with another 5 points there. In Season 41, Milos Denis made big improvements and scored 27 goals with 40 assists, making the leap up to 67 points in his third year. He is not the most physical player though, as he had 20 hits that season, which was his most yet. New York that season went on to win the Continental Cup once again, while Milos had 5 goals and 4 assists in that 12 game run. 2 cups in 3 seasons is a lot to ask for in the VHL, and Milos Denis had it right off the bat. In that off-season, Milos was brought over to the Quebec City Meute where he plays today. In his first season of Meute action, Milos had his best career season with 32 goals and 60 assists for 92 points. Quebec lost in the finals to the Cologne Express that season, however, and Milos added 9 points to his post-season point totals. Last season in Season 43, Milos scored another 30 goals with 44 assists, putting up another respectable season. That season was very disappointing for the Meute though, as they lost out to the Seattle Bears who went on to win the cup themselves. This season, Denis is setting up to have his best season yet, with 40 goals and 50 assists so far with only 5 games left. He would only need 2 points more to tie his career milestone. Quebec City is once again a favourite to win the cup.

Tyson Stokes - 3rd Overall

Next up, we take a look at centerman Tyson Stokes. Stokes was selected at 3rd overall by the Helsinki Titans, who were gunning at building their team into a contender, and Stokes would have been a great start. In his rookie season with the Titans, Tyson put up 10 goals and 33 assists for 43 points. He also laid out the body 110 times. In his sophomore season, Tyson scored another 10 goals, but this time added 41 assists, upping his production to 51 points. In that post-season, Stokes put up 4 assists in a 7 game playoff exit. In Season 41, which was his third season, Tyson Stokes raised his goal total to 17, although had less points by only grabbing 30 assists this time around, putting him at 47 points. In those playoffs, Stokes put up 4 points in 11 games, and the Titans were eliminated by the Riga Reign. Season 42 was another season that Stokes improved, bringing his goal total to 23, while adding 29 assists for 52 points. He also climaxed the 200 hit milestone, putting up 210 of them. In the playoffs, he only scored 1 goal in a 7 game defeat to the Cologne Express. Last year was his best season on record, and he split that season between the Helsinki Titans and the Toronto Legion, as he was traded there. He produced 25 goals and 39 assists, giving him 64 points. This time around he was a big physical player, laying out 280 hits. In that post-season with Toronto, they were swept in 4 games where Stokes put up 3 points. This season in Season 44, Tyson Stokes has been struggling a little bit, and was traded over to the Stockholm Vikings. So far, he has 20 goals and 21 assists in 67 games. Stockholm is one of the favourites to win it all this season, so Stokes very well will get that chance.

Koji Yamazaki - 2nd Overall

Koji Yamazaki was a highly touted offensive defenseman who was drafted 2nd overall by the Calgary Wranglers. He was supposed to be the next big thing, and a big producing defender for many seasons in Calgary. This was not to be seen. In his first season in the VHL, he did play for the Wranglers. He scored 10 goals and added 13 assists, giving him a 23 point rookie campaign. He was great for chipping in everywhere, with 124 hits and 103 blocked shots. Although, in that off-season he was traded to the Quebec City Meute, after Calgary did not approve of his work ethic heading forward. In Quebec City, he put up 7 goals and 8 assists, bringing down his production to 15 points. All of his statistics dropped. In his third VHL season, he put up 37 points, including 9 goals. Koji was a +35, and a positive for the first time in his career. That season the Meute were taken out in a huge upset by the Calgary Wranglers in 7 games, where Yamazaki put up 4 points. Season 41 was his career defining season it looks like, where Koji produced 17 goals and 59 assists, for an impressive 76 points with a +45. He passed the 200 hit mark for the first time with 242 hits, and added an additional 145 blocked shots. In Quebec's 10 playoff games, Koji amassed 5 points, with 26 hits and 23 blocked shots in a losing effort. In Season 42, Koji Yamazaki put up another respectable season, with 21 goals and 41 assists. He was a +72, which is his best +/- ever. This defenseman hit 200 hits once again, nailing that mark dead on. Although, in those playoffs he only put up 1 assist in 10 games. Before Season 43, Koji went over to the Riga Reign where he remains to this day. In his first season in Riga, Koji scored 20 goals and 26 assists along with 227 hits, which is decent for a team that was down in the dumps. As expected, they did not make the post-season. This season in Season 44, Koji is playing well with the Reign scoring 26 goals and 35 assists, for 61 points so far. Along with that, he has 250 hits and 137 shots blocked. The man from Tokyo looks to be riding out the rest of his career steadily.

Yamazaki, THAT MOTHER FUCKER. Dont even bring his name up again.

And yet so many people were determined he deserved to be taken ahead of me...

And yet so many people were determined he deserved to be taken ahead of me...

Because they needed a defender.  Same reason I took Bora.

There were only two defenders that were active at the time and therefore a premium price was set on them.

Content: 3/3 - Haha, funny to see a sort of bust in this one. I guess it happens. Always love reading about looking back at a draft.

Grammar: 2/2 - I didn't catch anything.

Appearance: 1/1 - Looks great.
