Goaltending in the VHL right now is in a transitional period. In the seasons preceding this one, many of the goalies who were supposed to be in their prime were deemed to be disappointing, and with multiple teams beginning to rebuild and many young goalies like Jakab Holik, Dmitri Dadonov, Artom Zhumbayev, Atticus von Braxton IV, and others coming up through the system, it seemed like no time until older netminders were put out of a job. The first victim was claimed just recently, as defending Continental Cup champion and Shaw trophy winner Blake Campbell announced that he would be retiring at the end of Season 48. With von Braxton coming up to the Americans’ main roster from the VHLM and New York management making it clear that they would be going in a different direction, Campbell exercised his player option for this season and headed to free agency. However, it took nearly a week after free agency opened for him to get any offers - and soon after he eventually signed with the Calgary Wranglers, Campbell decided to announce his retirement.

Fellow Season 42 draft pick Callum Sinclair seems to be in a somewhat similar situation. After spending six seasons with HC Davos Dynamo, a team that had held high hopes but never quite was able to reach them, it seemed as if the franchise was moving into a rebuild after a stretch of instability in the front office. Rumors swirled about Sinclair being on the trading block, but with young, highly-touted goalies in the upcoming draft and two-time Shaw winner Hans Wingate available in free agency, the teams that were looking for goalies all seemed to go in different directions. Now, during one of the two seasons left in his career, reports suggest that Sinclair is considering retirement. Sinclair has chosen not to comment on the rumors, but wherever he may end up, it seems like that Callum Sinclair may never wear a VHL jersey again after this season.

And fittingly, Clegane is basically a zombie
