The lighting effects are kind of overpowering, the light source in particular. Try playing with some layer effects (gradients, inside glow, drop shadow, etc) on your text. You could also try clipping masks or multiple text layers used to create a 3D effect. 

 

Also, with all of the distortion going on, the untouched ref's arm looks draws the eye really quickly. Cool ideas over all, maybe just a little heavy handed in execution.
