Try playing with some layer effects (gradients, inside glow, drop shadow, etc) on your text. You could also try clipping masks or multiple text layers used to create a 3D effect. Also, with all of the distortion going on, the untouched ref's arm looks draws the eye really quickly. Cool ideas over all, maybe just a little heavy handed in execution.
