MORE OF MY SUMMARIZED MEMOIRS

The complete edition will be available in stores and on all major e-reader platforms next month.

Right, back in the media spot forum picking up where I left off. Last time I spoke about my first season that I spent in the VHLM before my draft year. That was a great season to start in the league with but being drafted is the best part of a career and that's what we're going to talk about today. Coming off of our cup victory in S37, I decided to stay down and play on Yukon for another season to earn that sweet VHLM TPE.

It was a good season overall. It's hard not to have a good season in the VHLM when you have a boat load TPE. One thing to note here is that this was back before the modern rules on VHLM TPE levels - if I remember correctly, there was a hard cap of 175 TPE that you had to be under when the season started but after it started you could apply as much TPE as you wanted (as opposed to now where you have to bank over 175), so I guess I was one of the last people to be ripping around the VHLM with probably close to 300 by the end of the season. It didn't really help much as I ended up locked in a heated battle with @TheLastOlympian07 all season for Top Defenseman. I somehow won the award in the end although I'm not really sure how, I believe he did perform better than me that season. He then went on to destroy me in the Stolzy race the next season though so I guess he got his redemption.

At some point during S38 I took on my first GM position at the helm of the Oslo Storm. I was hired as interim at first as the current GM, Doomsday, had been MIA. He didn't return for a good while after that though so by the time he did I had cemented my position and thus began my rise to tyranny. I guess the VHLM Commish were more friendly back then, nowadays they just fire kids when they go missing! I was pleased to get the GM job and I remember fondly some of the players who played for me in Oslo, like @der meister and @Gooningitup and @BMax.

S38 wasn't exactly a great year for the draft. There was only a few actives other than me, albeit pretty big ones in @brovy, Svoboda, and Stamkos. But the rest of the draft was pretty meh. Svoboda was the big prospect with a ton of TPE so he went to Helsinki first, followed by Brovy to Seattle and then me to Helsinki. Unfortunately for Helsinki, Svoboda would only play a couple of seasons with the team before suddenly retiring and disappearing from the league entirely. Truthfully I've never become fully content with the fact that the first overall pick went to waste like that. Not that it was Helsnki's fault - I think Slobo's retirement came out of left field for pretty much everyone.

Even though I was spending S38 in the minors I was still in the Helsinki LR and I think we were all quite optimistic about the future at that point. We had more first rounders to use next season in a draft that was looking much better than my own and things were starting to come together, or at least we thought they were. I was just earning TPE like a mad man trying to get ready for my rookie season in the VHL and in Yukon we ended up winning yet another Founder's Cup so that was just lovely.
