In/Out: Evaluating active goalie HOF chances

Recommended Posts

I’ll do the same thing I did in my media spot, https://vhlforum.com/topic/78017-inout-evaluating-active-players-hof-chances, with the active goalies now. With goalies there’s a clear delineation at 300 wins. If you get 300 wins or more, you’re in. That means you need to average 38 wins per season, for all 8 seasons. It’s still possible to get in with less than 300 wins but you’ll need a SV% of .922 or better and a GAA under 2.20.

I know I just went through a whole thing about how 300 wins means you’re in. I think Pepper is going to test that rule. He’ll probably end up with just over 300 wins. He does have a cup, a Kanou for playoff MVP, and a Shaw for top Goalie thanks to a fantastic Season 66. But not much else outside of that. Currently the highest GAA of a goalie in the hall not from the first 10 seasons is 2.56, the average is 2.24. Pepper is higher than that and his .917 SV% would be the lowest of any hall goalie not from the first 10 seasons. Those figures are a little worry-some. Ultimately, I think Pepper ends up in the hall thanks to the 300+ wins, but I could see him being the first 300+ win goalie to not make it in.

Kallis Kriketers @hedgehog337 Prediction: Kount him in

Kallis’ resume is about as good as it gets. 3 Shaws (top goalie), 4 Cleganges (lowest GAA), a couple other personal awards and a cup. Worst case he has the 6th most wins of all time, if things go his way he could end up 4th all time in wins. The SV% and GAA are slightly worse than average, but that’s irrelevant, Kallis is the top goalie of this generation and needs to be in the hall.

Rayz Funk @Rayzor_7 Prediction: If he stayz the path, he’s in.

Rayz’s trajectory has him making the hall. Some might think it’s already a sure thing thanks to two cups, two playoff MVP’s, and rookie of the year. I’m a little hesitant to say that’s all he needs. To get to 300 wins he needs to average 41 wins a season for the rest of his career, his current best season is 39 wins. His SV% and GAA are both currently below average, with his GAA being close to the worst GAA from a goalie in the hall. As long as he doesn’t have a bad season or two, he should make it in. And if Seattle wins this 3rd cup in a row, I think he should make it in regardless of what happens for the rest of his career.

I think Brick Wahl, Finn Davison, and JB Rift are all nos. Their number of wins fall short of hall material.

Unless you’re Holik in which case missing 300 wins by 8 and meeting the other two criteria AND 88 shutouts isn’t enough.

I think even inactive members would knows these 3 goalies. They are all deserving to enter into the HOF and all are really really popular.

I knew them myself even though I never read that much in the forums and I don't check stats each year (Beside my own team stats of course).
