Kyle 667
Snijider VS. Tomas Valiq: Passion Made the Difference Some of you may know my former (and by far my best) player, Ansgar Snijider. Snijider was a fairly good player during his era and I like to think that despite not winning a Continental Cup with him, that I did a great job of carving a nice career out for him. Yet, since I retired Snijider my activity has near fallen off a cliff. With my previous player, Tomas Valiq, I was lazy, uncaring, and I felt no connection with the player in the least bit. That is a huge difference in a short stint of time (in the real world) where I suddenly lost my interest in the VHL and the desire to create a player who would truly be a superstar. I'm going to discuss what the main differences between my two players were, and why they had such significantly different career paths. With Snijider, I was riding the wave of excitement with Vadim Volkov where I finally established myself as a decently respected member and tasted my first individual success with Volkov as well. After retiring Volkov, I had an extreme "TPE whoring" mentality during my draft year with Snijider that ended up seeing him go 1st overall to Riga. However, I wasn't content with simply going 1st overall; I felt that I needed more from my player and wanted to see him succeed at levels that most members think about when they first join the site. Snijider ended up breaking the 100 point barrier 6 times, being in the MVP voting 3 times, and participating in the playoffs for 6 of his 8 seasons. With Snijider, I felt anything could happen. When I played for Riga the 1st time around, I was essentially forced to move myself in order to restock Riga's draft pick cupboard which I had foolishly emptied. Yet, I found myself back at by far my favorite VHL franchise (Davos) with my 2 favorite teammates of all-time, the Knight brothers. I had a blast in Davos, seeing my player succeed at a high level and seeing the emotional ups and downs our organization had; my passion for the VHL was still strong as ever. Finally, with Davos lacking the salary to be able to re-sign me, I returned back to where it all started in Riga; to finish what I started when I was taken there 1st overall. We made it extremely close both to winning in my 2 final season with the team. This included the lowest point of my VHL career, blowing the 3-1 Continental Cup series lead against NYA in Snijider's last season. Yet, after it was all said and done I can't say I regret one moment of hard work I had with Snijider. Every season something new and exciting was ready to come up for my player to increase his chance at becoming a legend, something I didn't feel with Valiq. Right from the get-go, I knew exactly how Tomas Valiq's entire career was going to play out. I was going to play with the other 2 Valiq's in Quebec, we may win a title or two, and I would likely be a lifer in the Meute organization. And that is exactly how it went, which provided no excitement for me at all and to be honest, I believe this is what made me lose my passion in the league and led to me essentially giving up on Valiq. Don't get me wrong, I had a lot of fun in the Quebec locker room with a lot of great members; but it eventually became stale knowing that this was going to be it from here on out with Valiq's career. Adding onto the fact that my career was self-determined for my player before he was even drafted, the playing style I gave Tomas was absolutely terrible and I will never build another soft, one-way, and pass first player in the VHL again. If I wasn't in the top scoring centers, I wasn't on the leader boards at all. With Snijider being plastered all over nearly every individual category, this was a change I wasn't used to seeing. Could I have changed his mold if I truly wanted to? Sure, but I wanted to test out a new type of player and see how the test run went; it went terribly. The best thing about Valiq's career was winning a championship, my first as an active member. But even then, despite the fact that I won my first Continental Cup as an active member with Valiq, it didn't mean nearly as much to me as it would've with Snijider. The hard work and dedication I put into Snijider, wasn't there with Valiq. Perhaps that is where the connection comes from, and where I need to get back to in order to feel a real passion for the league once again. I would like to say that I am finally officially back after about a 6 month break VHL, and ready to once again show the drive that allowed me to create a player whose number is currently retired for the Riga Reign. Keeler is going to be the real deal, I will be doing everything I possibly can to make sure of that. I want to have that feeling I had with Snijider once again, and although Keeler will be doing it through a different playing style, I promise you he will not be a useless pylon out there. I refuse to create another player who is just average. PS: 20,000th post! YAY! PPS: That felt so good PPPS: I claimed welfare for this week, going to take it away and use this as my PT instead. Phil 5,129
I feel you with the Valiq sentiment. With Villeneuve, my Activity has been virtually (haah lol) non-existent. It started at the end of Rafter's career though. Hopefully, I find a renewed passion with Villeneuve. It's the first time I have made a defensman and by all rights, I should be excited. I fucking love Riga and the activeness of the team is awesome. Just for whatever reason, I'm not as inspired as I used to be. I think I just need to start a facts and chicks thread in Riga tbh.. Senior Admin Will 4,662 Posted May 16, 2014 Senior Admin Share Posted May 16, 2014 Content: 3/3 Nice article! It sounds like its a damn shame that you were never able to win a cup with Snijder. I understand your reasoning for hating Valiq, though. You went from a dominant player to an average player, which would be a huge adjustment for anyone to go through. Best of luck with Keeler. Grammar: 2/2 Just two stupid things: near = nearly 2 final season = two final seasons Appearance: 1/1 Looking good.
