Dtayl 104
San Diego Poised for a Breakout Year (SDM during their first day of training camp) San Diego - After a dismal season last year in which the Marlins finished second to last in the standings, and looked more like flounders, they hope to bounce back this season. Following a strong draft by the San Diego front office the Marlins are looking like a proper contender. The Marlins have consistently been rated among the top 4 teams in the VHLM by other sports pundits and it’s easy to see why once you take a look at their roster. Once again, the front office did an amazing job constructing this roster through the VHLM Draft, and with the first pick overall the team took center John Merrick @Steve who will look to be the offensive engine of the teams first line. Merrick is surely one of the top centers in the VHLM this season and is poised for a break-out year leading the Marlins first line. The Marlins stayed committed to the offence for their next two picks in the VHLM draft as well, taking wingers John LeClair II @flyersfan1453 and Ryan Schwarz @Enorama to provide options on the offensive side of the ice. These three players are amongst the most talented in the VHLM this season and will look to provide a big offensive boost to the marlins which was something they lacked last year. Following the heavy focus on offense in the first round of the draft, the Marlins shored up their defense as well with picks of Doug Dimmadome @Esso2264, Lucifer Olivier Leveque @InstantRockstarand Lester Green @Smarch. Dimmadome is a top goalie prospect who will be a force for the Marlins between the pipes. While Leveque and Green will provide a dynamic duo on the blue line for the Marlins. All three players have high potential and could be ready to breakout this year. Another big move made by the SDM front office, that solidified their status as a contender, was a trade during the offseason which saw Pietro Angellini @okifenoki move over to the Marlins in exchange for a S75 first round pick. Angellini may be the next best center in the VHLM behind John Merrick, which means that the Marlins have 2 of the best centers in the league. This sort of depth is what makes teams truly great, the Marlin’s second line will be just as deadly as their first thanks to the addition of Angellini who will surely put up monster numbers. Finally, the Marlins return some of their best players from last season in Han Jae-kuk and Roadkill Steve @stevo. Steve looks to slot in on the wing for the first line where he should form a strong pairing with Merrick on the offensive end of the ice. Han Jae-kuk returns to SDM following a strong rookie campaign that saw him post strong defensive stats. HJK will look to anchor the blue line for the marlins and once again be the man who keeps pucks from going into his net. Both players were very good last season and they should be even better this time around. The Marlins have a roster with some high profile players that will look to rack up the stats and wins for the team. However, most importantly the Marlins have a significant amount of depth, especially on the defensive end of the ice which should pay dividends during a long and grueling season. Overall this roster is built to win and we’re excited to see what San Diego can do this season. GO MARLINS!!
