fonziGG 1,071
Gus, every single thing you said in here.... Well, you should know I'm in agreement with it all. Like, literally word for word, I agree with every single point you've made. I see plenty of issues in the VHLM but I trust @diamond_ace and whoever the new commissioner will be to correct these! diamond_ace and Gustav 1 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/92817-im-not-vhlm-commish-but/page/2/#findComment-785540 Share on other sites
Gaikoku-hito 2,130
Let me try to give a new players perspective to these issues: 1. Waiver system: This is confusing since I am a free agent to sign with any team that I want once offered a contract. This should be replaced with an automatic sign-up system or a waiver league run independent from the VHLM as I am part of the VHLM as waiver player but need to enter the draft at the end of the season to be selected by an VHLM team and a VHL team? That is confusing!! If placed in a waivers league we then get to be active right away and make a difference with a bot team increasing our TPE, learning the game and building our draft ranking; meaning we have ability to step into the VHLM right away and make a difference. It known as progressive progress towards certain goals or the carrot be before the horse syndrome. Give a new player something to chase and they will chase. 2. On 10/8/2020 at 9:47 PM, DMaximus said: To riff off of this, I was thinking there should be some sort of "tutorial" new players can complete, that demonstrates different areas of the site. Maybe each section of the tutorial has a short quiz, if they answer correctly, they earn like 10 TPE. Have 5 of those sections, boom 50 TPE for a new signup, might be easier than doubling all tasks like I previously suggested. Yes, I have been here a little over a week; it took a lot of reading to figure out some of the basic aspect of the game and the community here. I am still reading and learning. I am also still confused with some of the aspect of the game and I am sure I made mistakes claiming TPE in the first two weeks and expect to continue to make mistakes over the next few weeks; yet I am one of the highest earners of TPE this week since I have read enough and asked enough question to understand the basics but dam it if I had a box at the top explaining the fact that I needed to: Earn up to 12 Capped TPE in the week by doing the following: 1. 6 TPE Media (one) a. Media Spot b. Graphics c. Podcast 2. 2 TPE Media (Three) a. VHL.com article (150 words) b. Players Card (simple graphics) c. Team Press Conference d. Players Press Conference e. Trivia f. Reviewing (which is confusing) 3. Uncapped a. Practice Facility 1/2 TPE b. VHL Fantasy Up to 7 TPE VHL Pick em VHLM Pick em VHL Pick the score c. Career (Done only once in Player career) 1. Junior Review 5 TPE 2. Scout Report 5 TPE 3. First Generation (Store) 5 TPE 4. First Generation (double?) (not sure yet) 5. First Generation Bonus 10 TPE So having all of this in a starting tutorial is a must to keep players as it shows them how to earn TPE in the first few weeks from 12 Capped to Uncapped TPE, the fact that they can buy bonuses in the Player store ( which I am still not 100% want they all do) Then maybe have an Forum/ New Player questionnaire for a boat load of Uncapped TPE once a new player can answer the question about difference aspect of the game or information around the game and the forums say 50 question all worth 1 TPE so that they can earn a maximum of 50 TPE. 3. Re-draft every season: OMG, No No No!! I want to be part of team and know that my progress is actually going to make a difference; which is why I don't like the waiver system as I am going to be drafted away from my current team after progressing my player and the team (maybe hurting the team based on what I am reading) but to be drafted next season away from my waiver team seems like a step backwards already if having to do this for two or three season then it like restarting every season and not making any progress. 4. OMG, Inactives should be automatically kicked from the rosters. Active players should only be on the rosters period. Clean this up as I would be pissed to learn that I am playing behind a bot or inactive. @GustavMattias You make a lot of good points and I agree with most of them. +10 Edited October 11, 2020 by Gaikoku-hito Posted early when trying to look something else up!! This is an interesting idea and not one I'm necessarily against. The EFL and SBA (other sim leagues for different sports) use something similar to this for their development-league system and it definitely has its benefits. Without writing an essay on the specifics, we haven't adopted that system for our own reasons--but that isn't one of them. Every player needing to sign with a team rather than be drafted would solve a lot of tanking/stacking issues (though it's worth noting that it can also turn VHLM GMing into a "who's most active and online staring at the forum the most" contest). Overall this isn't something I'd hate seeing tested. There are multiple guides to earning around the forum. This one is the one I like to link people to because I feel that it does a good job explaining the system to people who aren't familiar with it. I do agree that the placement of these things needs to be more obvious, though. I never would have found that article myself as a new member. I'm glad to see you're getting a good start in the league, and I hope you keep it up! tcookie 927
I'll add my own perspective too as another new player.. - I don't have a better idea than the waiver system for new guys, I just don't love the idea of picking a team and then going into the VHLM draft and changing teams again. But I think a whole additional league that's nothing but waiver guys is extra work, probably would be quite boring to be a GM in, could be nothing but bots if there's a slow recruitment year, and besides that I find there's plenty of opportunity to play in the VHLM right away. You don't need to step in and be a star right away. I like that you can choose a team though - it lets you pick where you want to start off based on a preference for ice time, for winning, a mix of both, or whatever other factors. But this is also why I don't like the idea I've been reading about re-drafting every season - though I acknowledge it's got some built in benefits like weeding out inactives if you have to declare for the draft, etc... I don't want to be on a different team every single year. I also think that if the VHLM is sort of a place to get some GMing experience and maybe one day move up (maybe that isn't the case though, I'm not completely sure), it makes sense to have a lot of VHL GM-like elements to it. A league in which GMing is nothing but waiting on the forums to try to sign a new guy and then setting lines is all you really have to do with their success sounds pretty awful to be a GM in, though. I am a big fan of the idea of purging inactives on a season-to-season basis, and having a limit that you can't play in the VHLM past your, like, D+2 or D+3 season or something. Nobody really wants to play behind inactives that happened to disappear at 210 TPE so they can stick in the VHLM forever and tear the league up. - I like the idea of a tutorial teaching you the basics of earning TPE and stuff, but I don't think there needs to be TPE for it - teaching you how to earn the TPE regularly is the reward. I guess it might sound weird coming from a brand new player, but I'm already looking at the VHL, and I'm seeing it looks like there is already too much TPE floating around... you can relatively easily get into the mid-90s in most important stats a couple of seasons into your VHL career and a lot of good players are pretty well maxed in everything they want to be maxed in. Maybe I'm just speaking from my experience in GM leagues but I'm not a huge fan of over-inflated ratings. Sure everyone likes getting more points, but you've got to still have them mean something at the next level, and if every new player gets them anyway, it's not like they actually help set you apart. Besides that, it already strikes me as being fairly easy to earn TPE new in a player's career, especially with some of the first-gen bonuses. I'll take more if you're giving them out, but I see plenty of S74 picks with 90s already, plenty of S73 picks with 95s, the high TPE earners a few years into their careers are 99s across the board... And the more easy TPE you give out to new players, the less of an advantage can be gained by a new player that is heavily active relative to their peers (ie. 130 vs. 70 is a bigger difference than 180 vs. 120), and I think you want to give someone that is heavily active that greater opportunity to set themselves apart... But even if there's just a tutorial that helps new people, with the build guide that's pinned in the media spots forum, the earning TPE guide, a few helpful links for new players that is just staring you in the face once you sign up... that would probably help make things less confusing for new people.
