Coming from a member perspective, rather than my player, it's good to be back in the VHL. I had been a sim leaguer for a long time(hi @Advantage and @.sniffuM ), before I found the VHL and once I joined, I knew it was going to be a long-term relationship. I believe that was S25 and my very first VHL player, Vladimir Boomchenko was born. He wasn't incredible, but he wasn't terrible either, so that was OK. I was pleased with player number one. However, anyone that knows me beyond the "BOOM" persona, is aware of the amount of pressure I can put myself under, with regards to player success and decisions like Free Agency or contract decisions. I'm not sure why, but trying to strike a balance between having a good career and putting my player in the best position to succeed and not upsetting my GM or teammates by "abandoning" them, has always proven a difficult one. That situation has arisen throughout my time here in the VHL and I've probably mishandled the situation with every single player I've had. I've never intentionally set out to anger or betray anyone, but there's been times when the situation has played out like that. Davos to New York is an example where the situation could, and should have been handled better from my end. I always took it too seriously, despite several members/friends here telling me not to. I wasn't in a great space for a considerable amount of my VHL time, and being here was pretty much every minute of time I had to spare.

Regardless, Ive returned after a considerable absence with the intention of managing Odinsson in an entirely new way. No more desperation to beat the PT deadline for that 1 point to meet the cap for the week. No more trying to position my player to chase cups(with never really worked for me anyway), and no more caring that I'm top a top earner or leading a stat category or two. Sure I'll try and do PT's to reach cap if I can, but if I don't feel like it, tough shit. If I get drafted to a team, unless the atmosphere sucks and I hate it there, there will be no trade demands or LR/Discord sulking like a little bitch. It's meant to be fun, a place to hang out for a while, improve your fake hockey player. It's not an entryway to a marvelous career, or a top school or something else where you need to demonstrate your level of perfection. Well, not for me anyway. Not this time. Odinsson will be serviceable, that's all. No HOF potential, no first, second or even maybe third round pick. Pick players on need or potential, not past interaction or glory. Newer members are the lifeblood of the VHL and if they are active and earn well, that's great, and all the best to them for their time in the VHL. They well and truly deserve to be selected before someone like me.

In short, here I am back in the VHL but considerably different to the past activity and commitment levels of my previous stint. I'm enjoying it, seeing many members I had an association with previously, as well as newer ones who have added another layer of VHL enjoyment. Here's to the VHL...

I think this is a great mentality to have.  I have been a welfare+ easy task person since I joined in s68 and I think it's great.  I'm not really chasing glory on my player, just looking to have fun and be part of a fun community, which has been a pretty successful venture thus far.

100% agreed. I'd rather have any member stick around on welfare and do things the way they want to do them than burn out and disappear altogether. Anyone should be able to enjoy the league as much as they want to and shouldn't have to feel pressured into going farther in if that's not what they'd like to do--and I think the system we've got now does a decent job of keeping that up.

Hey I am a rookie here, but I thought that was a great read into your career and where your headed now. I also think it was a great idea to come out and straight up state your commitment level so users who know you from back in the day  aren't going to be let down if you are earning at HoF pace.  Great to have you back in the league and I hope you have more fun this time around! Maybe we will be teammates down the road. Until then, cheers!

Thanks @fromtheinside

It's always great to see active new members that are enjoying the VHL. As for the article, I just want all the GM's to know what they'll be getting this time around ASAP.

As for teammates, who knows. If so, I'll look forward to working with you!
