DMaximus 1,046
I ran the numbers and found the most exciting game of the VHLM season. Here is an in-depth review of that game. Game 11 - Halifax 21st vs. Mississauga Hounds This early season battle between two teams in the bottom half of the standings may be a surprising candidate for the game of the season, but this game featured lots of shots, multiple lead changes, and a ton of exciting opportunities. Let’s dive into it. 1st Period The action starts right away with each team trading shots in the opening minute. Mississauga forward New Player @I'll change this later takes a smart holding penalty to prevent a fast break after a turnover by teammate Gustav Hjalmarsson. @McLovin Halifax opens their powerplay with a nice sequence that led to a scoring chance. Ramarod Ramirez @Ominous fired a shot from the top of the right circle. Grayson Slansky @GSlansky tipped the shot, which cause Mississauga goalie Luke Spinelli @Lspinelli to lose control of the rebound. Javad Kamkar @Parriyah9374 fired the rebound into Spinelli’s outstretched glove. Halifax wasted much of the remainder of the powerplay including committing two icings. The second of which saw an errant pass by Halifax star Dolant Fertitta @Dolant turn into an icing. Mississauga capitalized on the error, with Jordan Tate @Aye my name jeff winning the faceoff in the Halifax zone, steering the puck back to line mate Eeli Rantanen, @Jolline and deflecting Rantanen’s shot into the net for a shorthanded goal! Mississauga Hounds, Jordan Tate 1 (Eeli Rantanen 2) at 2:19 (SH) - Halifax 21st : 0 - Mississauga Hounds : 1. A couple minutes later, a holding penalty by Dan Dan @MMFLEX puts Halifax on the powerplay. Halifax spent no time messing around on this powerplay with a great solo effort from Ramarod Ramirez who received a pass from Clinton Giftopoulos @Thranduil in the neutral zone. Ramirez took the pass and made a beeline for the Mississauga goal. A nice move sent Spinelli sprawling and Ramirez flipped it in to the open net for a powerplay goal. Halifax 21st, Ramarod Ramirez 3 (Clinton Giftopoulos 2) at 4:58 (PP) - Halifax 21st : 1 - Mississauga Hounds : 1 Mississauga took no time to respond. They stormed into the Halifax end and saw the end of a wild sequence which included a puck getting deflected off the post, a big rebound, and some fancy passing in close quarters all lead to Mississauga Hounds, Eeli Rantanen 1 (β-MIS D6 1, β-MIS C2 1) at 5:22 - Halifax 21st : 1 - Mississauga Hounds : 2 It took Halifax 2 minutes and 39 seconds to respond to the opening Mississauga goal. They improved their time, tying it up with a goal exactly 2 minutes after Mississauga’s. This goal saw Empty @StamkosFan capitalize on some strong pressure from Halifax’s 4th line. Empty was able to grab a puck left by teammate Nolan Fowler and wrist it home. Halifax 21st, Empty 1 (Nolan Fowler 1, Ramarod Ramirez 1) at 7:22 - Halifax 21st : 2 - Mississauga Hounds : 2 Halifax kept up the pressure for the next couple of minutes. Ultimately it led to a very nice sequence between Dolant Fertitta and Theodore James St Louis @Nick Kirkpatrick which culminated in Fertitta slamming home the puck after a St Louis shot missed the net. Halifax 21st, Dolant Fertitta 2 (Theodore James St Louis 2, Videl Valor 2) at 15:04- Halifax 21st : 3 - Mississauga Hounds : 2 The period ends with Halifax leading 3-2. 2nd Period Both teams must have enjoyed the intermission because they both came out flying to open the 2nd period. Bep @bep3788showed off their great positioning and fast hands as they grabbed the puck off of a shot blocked by The Blob @JorgTheGoat03 and fired it home before anyone figured out that he even had the puck! Halifax 21st, Bep 1 (Dolant Fertitta 1, Theodore James St Louis 3) at 1:16- Halifax 21st : 4 - Mississauga Hounds : 2 Never a team to wait around, Mississauga returned the favor 37 seconds later. Eeli Rantanen was everywhere on this shift, winning the faceoff, passing and moving, moving and passing. Finally Mississauga got the look they were after and fired a shot on goal. Rantanen was in the perfect spot to deflect the shot past Halifax’s goalie, Mike Sterling @SilverMike. Mississauga Hounds, Eeli Rantanen 2 (β-MIS C3 1, β-MIS D6 2) at 1:53 - Halifax 21st : 4 - Mississauga Hounds : 3. After a couple minutes of non-scoring boringness, Halifax flashed a display of fantastic hockey. They had a perfect breakout thanks to a Videl Valor @ValorX77take-away. Valor moved the puck to Theodore James St Louis who left it in the neutral zone for Dolant Fertitta. Fertitta did the rest from there, moving into the Halifax end and sliding one home. Halifax 21st, Dolant Fertitta 3 (Theodore James St Louis 4, Videl Valor 3) at 10:11 - Halifax 21st : 5 - Mississauga Hounds : 3 Mississauga’s high pressure in the offensive zone caused a turnover from Halifax defenseman Javad Kamkar. Jordan Tate took the puck and executed a perfect tic-tac-toe play with Gustav Hjalmarsson and Dan Dan. Once, Jordan Tate received the puck, he fired it home, closing the gap to one goal. Mississauga Hounds, Jordan Tate 2 (Dan Dan 1, Gustav Hjalmarsson 2) at 15:49- Halifax 21st : 5 - Mississauga Hounds : 4 The period ends with Halifax leading 5-4. 3rd Period Why waste fresh ice? I think that’s what Mississauga was saying as they returned to the ice to start the final period because they wasted no time bringing the game back level. Mississauga picked up the scent of the Halifax goal and were buzzing all around it. A missed shot by New Player gets picked up by Jordan Tate who has his shot blocked. That loosed puck is picked up by Dan Dan and he slams it home! Mississauga Hounds , Dan Dan 3 (Jordan Tate 1, New Player 2) at 0:32 - Halifax 21st : 5 - Mississauga Hounds : 5 I guess the teams got sick of scoring even strength goals because they each decided to commit a penalty and give the other team a powerplay. Halifax was up with first with a high sticking penalty from Kate Upton @OscarTheSwagDude. Mississauga took advantage of this opportunity scoring less than 30 seconds after the penalty. R was able to pick up a loose puck and rifle it into the next to give Mississauga their first lead since early in the 1st period. Mississauga Hounds , R 2 (Feenixx Rising 3, Dan Dan 2) at 11:50 (PP) - Halifax 21st : 5 - Mississauga Hounds : 6. It didn’t take long for Halifax to return the favor thanks to a hooking penalty on β-MIS D1. Also needing less than 30 seconds, Halifax tied up the game again with a great shot by Clinton Giftopoulos. Halifax 21st, Clinton Giftopoulos 2 (Ramarod Ramirez 2, Grayson Slansky 2) at 12:35 (PP)- Halifax 21st : 6 - Mississauga Hounds : 6 Overtime Halifax was able to kill off a late penalty to keep the game tied and send us to overtime. Halifax had all the pressure and all the shots on goal during the overtime period. Mississauga has their goalie, Luke Spinelli, to thank for playing great during overtime, keeping the game tied, and sending us to a shootout. Shootout Round #1. Halifax 21st, Dolant Fertitta. Stopped by Luke Spinelli. Mississauga Hounds, Dan Dan. Shot Misses the Net. Round #2. Halifax 21st, Theodore James St Louis. Goal by Theodore James St Louis. Mississauga Hounds, New Player.
